PoliticsRe: The Untold Side Of Court Marriage You Need To Know Today.... by Jasper14(m): 11:24am On Dec 18, 2025
giftson102:
Before you push for court marriage, know it's true advantages and disadvantages and be sure of your decision.

First, there is nothing like court marriage in Nigeria. What you are calling court marriage is actually called "statutory marriage" or "Marriage at the registry" or "Marriage under the Act"

🚨🚨The advantages of statutory marriage are:

📍It only recognise one husband and one wife. It is a monogamous marriage.

📍It is easy to have and not expensive. With less than ₦70,000 you can have a valid statutory marriage.

📍It does not require parental consents for adults above 21 years.

📍Only two adult witnesses are required for the marriage to be valid and these witnesses do not need to be family members.

📍If a spouse contract another marriage with someone else without first divorcing the legal spouse, the legal spouse can sue the other for bigamy.

Bigamy is the 0ffence of marrying a second wife/husband and it comes with 7 years imprisonment.

📍The legal spouse can sue whom their spouse married and that will land the person 5 years imprisonment for marrying someone who had a statutory marriage and is not divorced.

📍Adultery is a ground for divorce and you can claim compensation against the spouse who committed adultery and the person they committed adultery with.

📍In the case of d£ath of one spouse, the living spouse have the legal rights to take control of what the late spouse acquired.

📍Even if the other spouse has side chicks and side cocks, or had traditional marriage with someone else, the legal spouse is the only one that will have a say and be recognized.

📍The marriage certificate, which has Nigerian Coat of Arms, and FORM E written on it is the only marriage certificate that is recognized all over the world. Any other marriage certificate is invalid.

The disadvantages of a statutory marriage (it can be advantages to some people depending on a particular case) are:

🚨It does not give children of the marriage special privilege against children born by the parents outside wedlock. All children of the couple, have equal rights.

For example, if your husband gets a woman pregnant and bears children outside, those children have right to inheritance alongside your children.

🚨There is nothing like 50/50 sharing of property during divorce. You can only get a share of what was acquired after the marriage and you must prove you contributed to acquiring them. Evidence comes into play!

🚨The divorce process is only done in any High Court in Nigeria.

🚨 Return of bride price does not end the marriage. You must go to court.

🚨You MUST use the services of a lawyer for the divorce case.

🚨The divorce case can last 2-5 years before it is concluded in the High Court.

🚨You MUST have money for the divorce case. For start to finish, budget between ₦700,000 - ₦1.5million for lawyer's fee, appearance fee, filing and service of court papers.

Stop forcing your partner to go for statutory marriage if the benefits you seek are different from these.

I neither know you nor owe you any explanation. I state facts here for everyone to read so I don't care whose ox is gored.

Most Nigerians are fraudsters, hypocrites and opportunists who have a culture of enjoying things and not liking to pay for them. It's a national disease that runs in the blood of Nigerians.

Go to most homes today and you will see people bypassing their meters and still cry for 24/7 power supply.

Those countries you mentioned don't have the same values we have in Nigeria. Even though they are not wealthy, they are raised to pay for things they use. In fact, Nigerians disgust them because they know how we think in this country. We pretend to hate evil but still praise it because we are not directly affected. That's hypocrisy.

So, it's not their fault that gencos prefer to sell to their government to make money than supply to Nigerians. The discos that gencos have been selling to don't even recover half of their money, despite the fact that the federal government is paying billions of naira to make electricity affordable to consumers (subsidy).

Nigeria is a jungle that needs to be overhauled so that national value system can be properly reintegrated. Our politicians reflect who we genuinely are. Be proud of who you are - Nigerians are mostly hypocrites, opportunists and fraudsters. There's no point pretending about it.
Oga, it is the duty of government to persecute any illegal connection and supply every home with almost free prepaid meter.
A simple question for you, why is it normally hard to get a prepaid meter from disco? It is simple because they benefit from all this estimated bill while they can’t provide steady light.

Nigerians desire 24/7 power supply but nobody tells them that they cannot pay for it. Go to places where rich people live, they almost always enjoy power because they can afford to pay for it.

Power is not cheap. Nigerians keep bypassing NEPA meter and the discos keep running at loss, owing billions of naira in debt. This is despite the fact that the federal government subsidizes the power we use today. If we want to enjoy all-round power supply, we should be ready to pay for it.
Is Benin and Ghana richer than Nigeria that can afford steady electricity? Or what happened to prepaid meter that is pay as you use?

I have noticed that most times you talked without wisdom while trying to claim smart as your moniker implies..

Indirectly throwing jibe at Atiku and Tinubu. As much as I would love Peter Obi to win the election, I have vowed never to trust an Igbo. They are so cunning and would do anything just to buy your trust and after they get it, they will Jettison you. At this point, Nigeria needs God intervention because ALL THE CONTESTANTS are after their own selfish interest.

Time to retire some of these old politicians
PoliticsSummary Of The New Electoral Act Bill Signed By President Buhari. by Jasper14(op): 4:48am On Feb 26, 2022
Here is the summary of ten key provisions of the proposed amendment of the ELECTORAL ACT BILL.

1. Clause 29(1) stipulates that parties must conduct primaries and submit their list of candidates at least 180 days before the general elections.

2. Clause 65 states that INEC can review results declared under duress.

3. Clause 3(3) states that funds for general elections must be released at least one year before the election.

4. Clause 51 says that the total number of accredited voters will become a factor in determining over-voting at election tribunals.

5. Clause 54(2) makes provisions for people with disabilities and special needs.

6. Clause 47 gives legislative backing for smart card readers and any other voter accreditation technology that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deploy.

7. Clause 34 gives political parties power to conduct a primary election to replace a candidate who died during an election.

8. Clause 50 gives INEC the legal backing for electronic transmission of election results.

9. Clause 94 allows for early commencement of the campaign season. By this provision, the campaign season will now start 150 days to the election day and end 24 hours before the election.

10. Clause 84 stipulates that anyone holding a political office – ministers, commissioners, special advisers and others – must relinquish the position before they can be eligible to participate in the electoral process either as a candidate or as a delegate.

However President Buhari Has Asked The National Assembly To Delete It Number 10, i.e Clause 84 as it runs foul of the 1999 Constitution amended.
