PoliticsRe: Akpabio, Governors Summon Emergency Meeting With Labour Leaders Over Strike by Jayboi(m): 7:52pm On Jun 02, 2024
People always say how would the fg be able to finance the increase in minimum wage but have forgotten this same fg wud quickly bring up flimsy coastal road projects and approve without thinking, allow for billions of naira to be approved for buying cars for the senate etc and other unjustifiable spendings. My question is what is the basic amount a family of five can spend on feeding in this present era? How will they survive on 60k? It's just unthinkable and unfathomable. We all know there will be inflation if minimum wage increases but fg shud just increase it tremendously first or return petrol back to it's old price.

RomanceRe: To Send Her Away Or Forget The Past As If It Never Happened. I'm In A Dilemma by Jayboi(m): 4:42pm On Mar 24, 2024
Thank God you wrote the story just as it happened according to your perspective. Yet, it doesn't in anyway exonerate you.
You were planning japa and didn't involve her even if you wouldn't have to take her along immediately. That's wrong. Her sixth sense also told her you were using money for other things but you kept denying. Who would want to settle down with a man that has just a mat and MP3? Haba, imagine she is your sister nw. At almost 40, your life shud have a clear direction of where it's heading but you only gave her uncertainty. Tell me, if your travel plans had not worked out, wud you be asking us for advice on whether to kick her out? Don't use her age against her. She got pregy for you because she was desperate but didn't think it properly.
I'm not saying you must marry or even bring her abroad but mind you she's the only one you know her true character and she only showed her bad side because of the setting down pressure. My tak is if she's begging for forgiveness, then accept her back. Once she sees that you are no more interested in her, then na your child she go use as bargaining chip.

Today, no govt job is pensionable. U shud know better. If it is job security u want then u are not ready for the challenge being a young lady. My advice is resign and join Ur husband. Dust Ur CV and start applying now. Better u both fight on the same front than two fronts. Govt job nowadays are next to nothing because the salary is just too small. Unless u are on grade level 12 and above, it's best you join Ur husband

PoliticsRe: Pissed Off Yoruba Obidient Lady Slams Igbo Obidients by Jayboi(m):
chopnaira:
Obi did not do well in Anambra as per posts by Anambrans and Nairaland and several social media site. That alone influenced how alot of people from other region voted.

As per Osibanjo, he would have lost to Atiku before noon on election day.

As per Aganga and Akinwunmi, they are not politicians.
Don't mind that yeye boy. What does he know? Very ridiculous and he thinks he's making sense. I voted Obi during the last election. Infact till today, my wife still makes fun of me. Just two of us voted for him in my PU somewhere in Osun State. Obi even won in Lagos and the Igbos always thinks they made that possible.
All these their insults on the yorubas smirks of pure tribalism. Infact if one wants to properly analyse it, you ll know they were the most tribalistic in the last election but will keep denying it.
The more they keep pushing this Obi thing as if he's the mEssiah is starting to make me question why can't they just use their heads. Nigeria belongs to all of us. They keep saying they are marginalised because they are the third dominant tribe in Nigeria. Marginalised how? Even they in their regions won't come out and vote and even when they do, they are easily swayed by their politicians with bribes and vote buying.
How did APC even gain foot in the south East? One would wonder and yet they are marginalised.
Nigeria belongs to all of us. Wether they like it or not Tinubu is the president and but must all reject bad governance and keep the government on their toes. They must be up and doing and no room for corruption. That's the essence of this coming protest. For all I care, they can stay in their rooms and laugh and we will all see the results at the end of the day.
And just like someone said earlier, if theres another general election held today, Obi would not get as much as he got from the last election. Why? Because the sane Yorubas who voted for him then would surely have a rethink.

The 5 CBN circulars that calmed FX market

February 11, 2024

CBN will not pay invalid FX backlog – Cardoso

The Nigerian naira recorded a gain of 4.49 percent against the dollar in seven days of trading driven by the policy measures of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The local currency had witnessed persistent depreciation against the US dollar, hitting an all-time low on January 29, 2024, when it traded at N1,348.63 per USD at the official window. Enter the first of five CBN circulars that reversed the tide.

Jan 29 (Circular to Authorised Dealers – Financial Markets Price Transparency)

The CBN’s circular which was released on the 29th of January, led to more transparency and accurate price discovery. This initiative improved transparency of the true level of Naira, depicting unification.

Jan 31 (Letter to Banks – Harmonisation of Reporting Requirements on Foreign Currency Exposures of Banks)

Initiated on the 31st of January, the CBN’s letter to banks provided a level-playing field and improved liquidity and this led to the revision of Net Open Position (NOP) which limits the overall foreign currency assets and liabilities.

The directive has since spurred increased activity in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM) which saw daily market turnover rise from $134.83 million to as high as $854.53 million.

Jan 31 (Removal of Allowable Limit of Exchange Rate Quoted by the International Money Transfer Operator)

In its bid to resuscitate the naira and the economy, the apex bank issued another circular on the 31st of January, boosting diaspora remittances via official channels to Nigeria.

This initiative gave permission to quote exchange rates for Naira payout to beneficiaries based on the prevailing market rates at NAFEM, removing the previous cap of -2.5% to +2.5% of previous day’s closing rate.

This decision by the Cardoso-led CBN is expected to spur increased remittances via IMTOs, stemming the channelling and exchange of foreign currency through the alternative market.

Jan 31 (Reviewed Guidelines of International Money Transfer Services in Nigeria)

The CBN’s directive on the 31st of January offered ease of doing business for IMTOs. The guidelines for international money transfer services were reviewed to reflect the changes in the market and improved ease of doing business which would in turn endure clarity on permissible activities.

Feb 8 (Removal of the Spread on Foreign Exchange Transactions)

On Friday, the CBN removed the spread on foreign exchange transactions at the interbank market. This was disclosed in a circular to all authorised dealers, dated February 8, 2024 and signed by Duke Omolara Omotunde, director, financial markets department of the CBN.

Removal of the cap on spread in the interbank market and restrictions on the sale of interbank proceeds will lead to efficiency in the market-based price discovery system.

This policy by the apex bank will lead to a truly liberalised FX market. Authorised Dealers are now enabled to make binding two-way quotes in NAFEM. The removal of restrictions will spur market activity and reduce information asymmetry.

The Naira, which appreciated on Monday after the FX policy announcement, lost 3.41% of its value against the dollar for the five trading days in the week at the official market.

The FX market ended with the dollar closing at N1,469.97 on Friday from N1,419.86 quoted on Monday, the first trading day of the week.
