Fellow Nigerians, Hope we all know that the SE qualification is not only about defeating the Koreans. We need minimum of 2 goal margin and also that Greece should loose against Argentina. I have the believe that we will still win this match (the margin I cannot tell), but we have no control on the Argentina/Greece. |
olisat:Hope you will not allow them to spoil your day for you! Happy birthday anyway. While still wishing the SE best of luck today, I have learnt not to be disappointed by their traditional poor performances. Meanwhile, I think we will need up to 2 goals margin to proceed even after Argentina might have done us the "favour". It looks a BIG task! |
Why are you people as much tribalistic as this? Kaita was wrong and He could have come from any part of the country. He was in green and white. If he had done anything good, would you have ascribed the glory to the tribe or region he come from first? Let us keep Nigeria ONE! |
I will stake any amount that SE will shine against Greece. At least 2-0 if not 3-0 will be the score line. Take my words! |
Nigeria 3-1 North Korea Trouble mars Nigeria-North Korea game June 6, 2010 Source: Soccernet A police officer has been seriously injured in a stampede which forced Sunday's friendly between Nigeria and North Korea in Tembisa to be suspended. Nigeria fans had invalid tickets for the game GettyImagesNigeria fans had invalid tickets for the game At least 20 fans were injured when Nigeria supporters tried to force their way into the Makhulong Stadium. They had photocopies of legitimate tickets and, after been refused entry, rushed the gates once they had been closed. The match at the 10,000-capacity venue was not sold out. The policeman was hurt when a fence was pushed down on top of him. "He was crushed by the gates as people stormed them, trying to get in," Reuters was told by police spokesman, Mveli Nhlapo. Reuters also reported that a child was injured in the crush. Fourteen people were taken to hospital, mostly with minor injuries. The match was stopped four minutes into the second half as officials tried to restore order after the main stand became overcrowded with people who had managed to get into the ground. It restarted after five minutes. Colonel Eugene Opperman of the South African Police Services (SAPS) said: "There was definitely a stampede, but it happened on the outside of the stadium and not the inside. We have 14 civilians that are injured and one policeman. There were no deaths.'' |
John Mikel Obi is out of the World Cup. Brown Ideye has been called up to replace him. Mikel quit the Nigerian World Cup team so he would not aggravate his knee injury. The Chelsea midfielder told team officials that ‘he did not want to put his career at risk as his knee injury 'has yet to fully heal after a recent surgery'. Emmanuel Attah, a team official said on Saturday morning. The 23-year-old is among the final 23-man squad drafted by Nigerian coach Lars Lagerback who had earlier assured that Mikel will play a part of Sunday's warm-up game against North Korea. Mikel is the latest Chelsea player to experience a last minute miss out of the World Cup with Michael Ballack, Michael Essien and Didier Drogba who is currently in pain after an elbow fracture. The Ivory Coast star may yet appear in the World Cup if an emergency surgery goes well. Courtesty :234next.com |
Deji of Akure in free-for-all •Strips self half-naked to beat wife •Wife hospitalised www.tribune.com.ng THE rich Yoruba tradition and customs were thrown to the winds on Sunday evening as the Deji of Akure, Oba Oluwadare Adesina, engaged in a free-for-all with one of his oloris (queen) on the street of the town. The monarch left the palace in company with the last olori, Remi Abiola, and an Akure High Chief to engage his second olori, Bolanle, in a free-for-all on Hospital Road, Akure. The monarch, in the bid to engage his wife in fisticuffs, stripped himself half-naked and prepared himself for the battle. The Pathfinder Jeep in which the Deji was driven marked “Deji of Akure” was damaged by irate youths that mobbed him and he was whisked away by a team of policemen in one of their patrol vehicles. The monarch, in an attempt to escape being dealt with by the people of the area, fell into the drainage along the road and his cap fell off from his head. After the confrontation, which lasted about three hours, Olori Bolanle was admitted at the state Specialist Hospital, Akure, as she was seriously wounded. It was gathered that trouble started at about 5.30 p.m. on Sunday when the monarch, along with Remi, stormed the residence of the second olori located on 141, Hospital Road, Akure, in the Jeep and a Toyota Starlet, marked Ondo AL 963AKR. Immediately they alighted from the vehicle that brought them and on sighting them, Olori Bolanle went into her room and asked the people around to tell them she was not around. But when they could not see her, the monarch was alleged to have ordered the youth that accompanied him to burn down the building. Nigerian Tribune further learnt that it was at this stage that Bolanle surfaced from her room to challenge the people on the reason they invaded her residence. Her emergence aggravated the situation as Oba Adesina was said to have ordered that hot ashes believed to have been mixed be poured on her. One of the women at the scene who attempted to shield the Olori was said to have been burnt as the skin on her arms peeled off immediately the ashes touched her body. While this was going on, the Olori who came along with Adesina was alleged to have smashed a big plank on the back of Bolanle following which the two engaged in a fight. However, the younger brother of the attacked Olori and the youth of the area mobilised against what they perceived as injustice to Olori Bolanle and mobbed the monarch and his entourage. When it was obvious that the youth wanted to lynch Adesina and that he could not escape without being beaten or molested, the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was contacted and he sent his men to the scene. The monarch’s vehicle was damaged and blocked with another Xterra Jeep belonging to Olori Bolanle, hence the monarch escaped in the police patrol vehicle. It was, however, learnt that the monarch and the attacked Olori had been at loggerheads for sometime, a development that made the Olori to pack out of the palace and relocated to her parents’ home. Oba Adesina was said to have invaded Olori Bolanle’s residence to retrieve the property he bought for her, including the Xterra Jeep. Speaking with newsmen on her sick bed, Bolanle said it was Oba Adesina that led his palace chiefs and some hoodlums to attack her in her residence. She said she was seriously beaten while an unknown substance was poured on her. She said she would institute a legal action against the monarch over the invasion of her house and the injuries inflicted on her. Several attempts to speak with the monarch were not successful as his mobile phones were switched off. He could equally not be seen at the palace as he was said not to be around at press time. |

Ghana must bow! |
BIG CONGRATS TO THE SUPER EAGLES. You have done us proud and we still have faith in you that you can bring this cup no matter what dreams some NLs are dreaming or whatever anybody may be saying or writing. A win is a win any day any time. Even if we score with the "hand of God". At least, we have established our supremacy over Zambia tonight. MORE GREASE TO YOUR ELBOWS BOYS! |
[/quote]Posted by: Bokoharam Please sleep again and have a better dream. Enough of these confused unpatriotic dreams that can never come to pass. I can bet it that our team will not crash out at this stage. Mark my words. |
My prediction is "Zambia 1 - Nigeria 3" |
Angola 0-1 Ghana: Blackstars Dump Hosts Out Of AFCON The Blackstars put in a tactical and workmanlike performance to deny the Palancas Negras passageway to the final four. By Rami Ayari Jan 24, 2010 6:14:00 PM Related Links Teams * Angola * Ghana Angola 0-1 Ghana Lineups/Stats African Cup of Nations Fixtures, Results The first quarter final of the knockout stages at the African Cup of Nations got underway with Angola kicking off proceedings. The home side immediately looked the brighter and more energetic of the two teams as they forced a few set piece efforts in the opening two minutes. Just as he did during the group stages, Mabina was showing signs of danger on his right side and drew the games first yellow card on Ayew after some lovely ball skills. Meanwhile, the visitors had their first offensive in the 5th minute but Draman found Zuela in his way as he to maneuver into the penalty area. In the 8th minute Mabina’s cross from the right was nearly deflected into Kingson’s goal when Addo made a mess of his attempted clearance. Shortly thereafter the same player almost repeated his mistake but his goalkeeper was there to clear the danger. Just as it looked like Angola’s pressure was beginning to pay dividends, Asamoah Gyan got on the end of a defense splitting pass from Emmanuel Badu and took one touch before finishing expertly into the bottom left corner. The rapid counter attack stunned the Angolan spectators in the stadium who hadn’t yet seen Ghana fire so much as a warning shot in the game. Manuel Jose’s team responded by conserving the ball and trying to build their attacks patiently after going behind but their attempts lacked bite. Frustrations began showing as time wore on with them looking to bypass the dense Ghanaian midfield using long balls that were not finding their intended targets. Their luck almost changed in the 29th when a wide open Manucho got on the end of a lovely cross from Flavio Amado but his header was right at the goalkeeper. Almost immediately after that, Kingson was called upon to save his team once more and was happy to oblige. In the 34th minute, the glovesman almost went from hero to villain as a silly mistake on his part prompted the referee to award Angola a free kick a yard inside the box. Fortunately for him, Flavio’s shot went well high and wide. The Palancas Negras enjoyed the majority of the possession for the rest of the period as the Blackstars were more than happy to sit back and burst forward once they recovered the ball. The last chance fell to Manucho who should have done better given his position but his strike went over the crossbar with the goal mouth begging. Thus, the first half came to a close with Ghana holding onto their lead in front of the 50,000 worried looking home fans at the Estádio 11 de Novembro. After the break, the early going in the second half lacked rhythm as Angola’s urgency was translating into inaccurate passing on their part. The situation prompted Jose to make his first change of the match as he brought on an offensive midfielder, Job, for Stelvio in search of more attacking fluency. On the other hand Milovan Rajevac suffered a setback when he was forced to bring off his injured goalscorer, Gyan, in favor of Amoah. The change didn’t affect his side tactically though as they continued to wait deep in their half for sterile looking Angola that was struggling to find solutions. In fact, the West Africans could have doubled their lead against the run of play in the 65th when Draman worked his way into good position after a well executed chest control but his shot didn’t trouble Carlos Fernandes. Manucho could have answered the prayers of all Angolans in the 72nd but he once again wasted an open header after good service from Mabina. With the final fifteen minutes looking ominous, Jose went for broke by taking out Gilberto and bringing on an extra attacker in Zekalanga. Nevertheless, it was still Ghana that looked more dangerous with their sporadic yet incisive efforts versus an increasingly nervous looking Angolan side that was having trouble coping with the rising levels of anxiety. The prospect of a precocious exit from their continental showpiece was clearly affecting their play. The Palancas Negras would continue to search in vain as five minutes of injury time were not enough for them to find the much desired equalizer due to their inability to convert their chances against a well organized Ghanaian outfit that did everything it had to hold onto its deserved victory. source: www.goal.com |
What is the final score line please? |
Actually, Eagles will whitewash Kenya but it's too late. I can bet that Tunisia will not lose their match against Mozambique. What a pity! ![]() |

FG may acquire shares in 9 rescued banks Written by Mohammed S. Shehu, with agency report [Minister of Finance] Minister of Finance Federal Government may acquire shares in some of the nine troubled banks recently rescued with a N600 billion bailout in the last two months if the institutions fail to recapitalise or find buyers, but are deemed systemically important, the government said yesterdays. The Finance Ministry said while trying to build confidence in the banking sector, it would aim for successful bank restructuring which would entail preserving the payment system, ensuring there are functional banks and making sure troubled assets are managed and disposed off appropriately. “In the event that some of the affected banks are unable to recapitalise and successfully go through a merger and acquisition, the government may acquire shares in such banks, if they are deemed systemically important,” the ministry said in a statement made available to international news agency Reuters. “Thereafter, government equity will be sold at the earliest possible opportunity.” Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi told Reuters in August his preferred option for the first five banks rescued would be for them to be purchased by other financial institutions. The Central Bank has injected nearly N600 billion in the nine banks and sacked their senior management for recklessly granting loans and lax governance that left them so undercapitalised they posed a systemic risk. The bank executives are that of the Union Bank of Nigeria, Intercontinental Bank Plc, FinBank Plc, AfriBank Plc and Oceanic Bank International, Bank PHB Plc, Equatorial Trust Bank Plc and Spring Bank. The Finance Ministry and the Central Bank have repeatedly said no Nigerian bank would be allowed to fail. http://www.weekly.dailytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1457:fg-may-acquire-shares-in-9-rescued-banks&catid=40:cover-stories&Itemid=26 |
