So much has happened in 2017 that it’s almost impossible to believe they all happened in one year. Today, Google announced the results of its 2017 Year in Search, offering a unique perspective on the year’s major moments and top trends based on searches conducted in Nigeria. In addition to showcasing what people, places, and things were trending around the globe this year, the 2017 Year in Search list also offers insights into what the top trending news moments for Nigerians were in the last 12 months, as well as the new music and movies that got their attention. The most searched person on Google’s year-end list was Moji Olaiya, the sad news of her death two months after giving birth shook the Nigerian movie industry. Coming in second place was notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike – popularly known as Evans. Adesua Etomi was third on the list, her engagement and marriage to Banky W all happening in 2017. It’s no secret that people turn to Google for answers to questions they are embarrassed to ask their friends. This year’s top “What is…” queries included President Muhammadu Buhari’s state of health, JAMB and WAEC results, what a female Hyena is called, what Monkeypox is and Bitcoin. The year 2017 has turned out to be a pretty special one. It held so much promises in store especially for entertainment, which continued to unveil itself in the most amazing of ways. Particularly exciting about the year 2017 is how the women didn’t come to play. The divas of music held sway dictating their own trends and controlling the narrative of how they wanted their stories to be told. This was the year for the women to headline shows, the year of new and bigger deal signings, the year to rule the airwaves with new releases and otherwise dominate the music charts, the year where much-anticipated albums were dropped, collaborations slayed and more awards won; the year of getting international recognition, delivering hotter show-stopping performances, going on tours, and of course more money in the bank. The women kept it 100! In as much as we give kudos to our industry females for coming out tops this year like never before, we’re still asking that you to decide and tell us which female artist is your best for the year 2017. A former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has told President Muhammadu Buhari not to be deceived by the crowd that welcomed him during his visit to Kano State. Buhari was quoted by his Special Assisitant, Garba Shehu to have said, “I am overwhelmed with the massive reception I have received and definitely, since this is partisan politics, I think it has sent a clear message to the opposition. “Even going by the details of the election results in 2003, 2007 and 2011, it was very clear that nobody could even dare to rig my scores from the elections in Kano. “It has been so consistent and I don’t think I have the vocabulary to express my thanks to the people of Kano. “I am very grateful to God and the people of Kano for the complete trust you have in me.” But reacting through his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, the ex-Vice President said Nigerians will decide 2019. The spokesman for Atiku, said this when asked by Punch to comment on Buhari’s statement that the reception he got in Kano was an indication of his popularity. He said, “The only thing I can tell you is that Nigerians will decide 2019. “Nobody else can decide but Nigerians.”

Nigeria is a place that is diverse in culture. Everyone belong to different tribes, speak different languages, etc. Even favouritism takes place- people won't just do things the right way! When it comes to religion it is a total different aspect when you are asked, ''what religion are you?'' or ''are you a Chrisian?''. You are totally dumbfounded and you'll find yourself accepting the religion of that society! Hmm.... Nigeria needs to change for the better! Sometimes I comtemplate religions which one is better, even my friends too. We just live under the shadow of the society. The constitution isn't in use, even thought it says freedom of speech, etc. The only way for Nigeria to be a good developed country, we shold leave behind our religions, tribes and all inter-racial systems within us a move foward, that's why I'm an atheist- just doing what is right. My fellow citizens, leave your egos behind or else there will not bea change in this country. I've done my part by changing myself and the society I live within. Just believe in whatever religion you belong to but do the right thing you need to do. Do your part by taking action and sharing! Express your thoughts on what you think should be done to solve this pressing issue in the Nigerian society..... |
