descarado:yellowing of maize leaves simplify that there is no nitrogen content in the soil this can be corrected by applying a fertilizer with high nitrogen content e.g npk also note that cold and wet soils also encourages yellowing of maize leaves when soils are cold and wet plants have troubles with absorbing nitrogen content from the soil 4 Likes 2 Shares |

also note that insects likes eating watermelon leaves when it germinates but at this stage applying insecticide directly on the leaves can kill the plant so the best way to do it is to apply pesticides around the planted areas this will keep insects away from the plant applying insecticide directly on the leaves should be done when the melon is 2 weeks old cause at this point the plant is matured 1 Like

Please be informed that selective post emergence herbicides hardly kill ALL types of weeds only non selective herbicide can do that. As a result of this understanding crop and weed spectrum is a must. Applying non selective herbicide to your crops will be a costly mistake. How to achieve GAP in maize
obtain good and reliable hybrid variety seed the right way
plant the right way the right spacing
Apply DAP or npk as basa or at 2weeks
Ensure a weed free farm
scout for pests and disease eliminate
Apply organic fertilizer

The first mistake of most maize farmers is not knowing the right planting distance.If you are among those who presume maize require a lot of space between holes your expected yield will always be low. This is because the plant population required for high yield will not be achieved. Always plant at distance of 25cm (at most 30cm) between holes and 75cm (at most 90cm) between rows with this plant population of over 55000 holes per hecter is required for best yield. Using tractor mounted planters or manual planter is recommended. However in their absence the use of ropes and carefully placed black paint at the right distance is also an option 21 Likes 5 Shares

cracking of water melon is caused by irregular application of water and/or calcium deficiency with enough water they absorb and become turgid with the lack of water they turn flaccid.The process of of becoming turgid and flaccid is the reason why they burst lack of soil calcium is another reason for bursting 1 Like

Also note that watermelon don't ripe at once its harvested batch by batch the best way to identify a watermelon is by turning the part sitting on the ground if it turns yellow then it means the fruit is ripe 4 Likes 1 Share |

Another important advantage of watermelon is that the price only crashes by mid june to early july thats the time when northerners do flood the markets with their produce as a smart southerner you can always harvest before them and sell without competition cause rains normally starts falling by march in the south while in the north rains usually resumes by either ending of april or at times may 2 Likes 1 Share |

Water melon performs best when done mono but if you are addicted to mixed cropping i'll recomend you to plant either millet or maize when the melon is one month old |
