You will time well by planting either march and harvest when they are yet to harvest or you will plant late and harvest when their produce have finished but this is only applicable to southerners 1 Like |

one of the common mistakes that most watermelon farmers in nigeria do make is wrong timings I'll briefly dwell on this issue, when I said wrong timings I'm referring to the period that watermelon do flood the markets in nigeria please note that the north are the largest growers of watermelon in nigeria this is a region that uses rain as their source of water for farming activities and the onset of rain in this region is either April ending/early may at times even mid may and the time they do harvest their watermelon is mid June to mid July in this case if you don't want to harvest your watermelon during the glut period you will have to time well 3 Likes |

If only one side of a field show insect problem it may be related to an invasion from a field border keep in mind that in corn fields problem areas with sharply defined edges could be a sign of insect damage or they may be the result of nematode or herbicide injury. For general scouting start at a different point every week pick a random pattern in advance and walk without consciously choosing good or bad areas. Sample after regular intervals every 20 steps or so walk to within 30 feet of each field as many problems starts from the sides of the field 1 Like 1 Share |

in continuation of GAP in maize I'll briefly dwell on an important aspect that is ignored by even the most advanced maize farmers. This is the aspect of searching for and eliminating pests and diseases otherwise known as scouting. After corn emerges consistent scouting which includes sampling and insects identification is the best way to know what pests are in the field and whether or not they will threaten yields and profits. Different corn pests appear at different times problem infestation areas may be related to soil conditions. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Timmylehyn:this is not hearsay it's what I've been doing if you plant them at the same time together the maize will kill the melon but if you plant after one month by this time the melon will start covering everywhere so before the maize leaves start providing shade you will harvest all your watermelon 2 Likes |

now even if I'm to sell each ball at 100naira I'll be having 4.5 million this is just the worst scenario cause in 2019 I harvested 18 balls of watermelon from a single hole of 4 seeds in that same year I selected 10k balls from my 6 hectare farm during the first batch I was so lucky it was during ramadan period that's the time that watermelon prices do goes up each year so I got two 911 lorries and conveyed them to my customer alhaji Bello in boundary ajegunle lagos near navy road guess what 1 Like 1 Share |

there're some other charges that I've forgotten but let's go straight to the point with the above expenses we planted 4k seeds in each acre making 40k plants on the ten acres now I'm assuming that I will be likely to lose 8k plants to insects or wild animals despite knowing that it's not possible cause I have all I need to guard my melons with that assumption I'll be left with 32k plants then if each of these give me just 2 balls each that means I'll have 64k balls then I'm still assuming that I'll be likely to lose some fruits to accidental falling and thieves let's say I lose 19k balls to accidental falling and thieves I'll be left with 45k balls 1 Like 1 Share |

it's possible to make millions of nairas from watermelon farming if you play your cards right this is not rocket science or magic it's about doing the right thing at the right time below are the list of inputs that I bought for planting watermelon on ten acres my aim and target is to harvest at least 30k balls and sell each ball at the price of 150 naira and make 4.5 million by may ending/early June 3 Likes 1 Share |

The reason why many people fail in watermelon farming in nigeria is because they treat the plant the way they want and not the way the plant want and they don't pay attention to it the way it's supposed to pls note that watermelon is not like cassava and other crops that even if you pay less attention to them they still survive 2 Likes |

One of the most common problem of most maize farmers is planting short season varieties early and harvesting at the peak of rain problems associated with drying becomes a problem.Note: farmers with means of drying and storing their harvests can plant short term varieties twice or even thrice Call or WhatsApp me on 09055879985 for consultancy on the best maize seeds to plant and the best time to plant 1 Like 2 Shares |

If you want to plant maize at the onset (beginning) of wet season go for long season varieties. If you want to plant mid season go for medium varieties when planting late go for short term varieties. 4 Likes 1 Share |

majority of most maize farmers including the so called big time farmers are guilty of this long season maize variety mid season varieties or at the off set. some farmers tend to plant early season or medium season varieties early or at the off set of wet season. Not knowing which and when to plant will always present problems. 4 Likes 3 Shares |
