if an Anatomist offers physiology too, I can't complain much, I might just call it medical diversity but an Anatomist going for biochem too? I don't know again o, but this is the first time sha
Yes, we did the bcms medicine students did. The relevant courses.

physiology taking some anatomy courses is the right thing, but anatomy taking physiology courses? That's extremely odd. As for biochemistry that is another story. Well to each his own. I've never heard of this before tho. Guess we do learn new things everyday.
Ai didn't mention bcm ooo. Bcm don't do anatomy except histology. But we and physiologists offer same courses and attend same classes with medicine until second semester year three, when everyone flies to his tents, medicine students go into year4A, anatomists start offering courses like relevant lab techniques, forensics, mortuary science, aesthetics, etc, physiologist offer their own courses. That's for Unical oo!

Dbrainiac1:
That means unical's med school's syllabus get k-leg. Yes, basic med sciences do offer the same courses as those in MBBS, but the mode of lectures has to be different. And the syllabus too.
Even in delsu, the basic medical science students have same course outline so that peeps with 4.cgpa and above can cross over to medicine in their year three and write MB if they're interested.
Education / Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by jemmiee(f): 9:18pm On May 30, 2016
Mickael2:

Wel, they aren't among the top universities anyway so what do you expect? An anatomy student doing biochem? That's quite messed up though, then what's the difference there?!
Unical is one messed up school, I'm sorry to say. That's my opinion.

pls I need an honest person to answer

is MBBS as hard as people paint it?
The bottom line about medicine is Read Read Read. If you don't have a driving force and you don't like reading, don't go near. Don't bother wasting your money, time and energy.

I think unical have a very disrupted curriculum, seriously very very disrupted

just curious anyway, since you offered all the courses med students did, can you in all sincerity say that you'd pass the MB exam if ask to write one now?
Dat kind tin! It takes earnest preparation jare! If ai write the MB exam ryt now ai will fail woefully, except ai have at least month to prepare.

In the same limited amount of time they had to do it too? With the pressure of incourse all round calendar etc?
in Unical, the mbbch students don't do all round calendar in their first three years. They are like every other undergraduate until when the pass their MB. So yes, in same limited amount of time.

I think this system will culminate to another uproar in medical schools. What do you say of graduates of biochemistry, microbiology et all.Do they have Broad knowledge of Basic medical sciences?preferential treatment to a particular group of bsc holders will be absurb and inconsequential. The current policy should continue.
I concur. You're right.

you mean anatomy and physiology students offer biochemistry, anatomy and physiology?.... now that's shockingly weird
Yes! They do! Ai offered all the physiologies" and "biochemistries" and "anatomies" mbbs students offered.

This is so true I'm a biochemist and I've apply for med DE already, it could be a disaster for me if I get thrown straight into clinicals as I have very little knowledge of anatomy and physiology. NUC should reconsider and make proper preparations before implementing it.
That's true.

I've been following ur comments, it seems u sch in unical. I applied for med in unical through DE with my BSc biochemistry (second class lower). What are my chances? What do I need to know?
Ai schoolED... My dear to be frank, if you're not from Cross River State, you're on a long thin line. Ai inquired from one of the lecturers, she told me someone with a 2.2 can be taken if d person is an indigene. So my dear, you have a 2% chance if you are not from Cross River State. But pray hard though, don't be discouraged.

I feel its for the best, basic medicine science would include basic knowledge of all three musketeers, Biochem, Anatomy and physiology... throwing an anatomist, physiologist or biochemist into a clinical scene could be catastrophic[in the Nigerian scene]. I feel NUC was tryna copy the american curriculum, without considering the level of knowledge a basic medical science graduate would have acquired.

jammiee don't paint UNICAL black I also graduated from unical and never spent upto a year before going for service I spent less than 4months after the date I finished my final exams, unical won't keep u waiting if u don't have result issues
smh... Smh... You spent less than four months, anyway, it depends on your department and your exam officer. ai don't argue on social media. Please go to anatomy department, Unical and ask if any 2014/2015 set of graduates have gone for service. Ai will appreciate your reply, thanks.

Juz sayin', so you don't build your hopes up and have it torn down later on

@Jemmiee....please how many years in summation will it be after obtaining my B.sc Anatomy and still go into Medicine...altogether bro
anatomy=4yrs+nysc(1year)(depending on your school, in Unical, you wait for one year before going for nysc) (+1year)+direct entry(4years) =10/9years depending on your school.

I'm confused cos' people tell me that Anatomist only Lecture.
What are my other areas of Specialization after completing my First degree in Human Anatomy
lol... Funny enough I'm an anatomist. Lol.. Ai don't know for others, but if ai wasn't interested in medicine, ai cldve lectured. For a country like Nigeria, the best bet for an anatomist is to lecture.

Yeah, that they'll start from Clinicals(400level) that makes it 3years. 4years for anatomy, physiology and biochemistry them 3years for mbbs making it 7years

As we all know,It's easier said than done in Nigeria.Let's keep our fingers crossed and watch how things unfold in the next two years. But, Don't you think marriage will be a very huge distraction in medical school?medicine is no agric e.t.c.I urge you to give it a second thought.
It is well my dear. The last best graduating student from UI graduated from medicine and was married. Even Unical ai graduated from, there were so many married women that gave me tips on how to make it. WITH God, ai can make it jare. And me sef, I'm determined and I'm ready to work hard.

The courses differ from school to school. You should have a hand book na, that lists all the subjects. Yeahh, had thought so too@your first statement, that was why I included my school(BSU)...and on the hand book,I haven't been given any yet...
Okay then. Sorry, ai don't have an idea, for your school. Ai only know for my Alma Mata.

No o... Four. According to the new Bmas, medicine is now seven years. That is if mdcn accepts. Browse about it, check the nta news on YouTube

Isn't it possible for you to just change to Medicine after your 100 lvl? Or is it not done like that in OOU? That seems better, just obtain a substantial CGPA and you should be good to go.
Some schools don't accept o... In Unical who go even answer you? Lol even if you have five points.

Greetinz 2 d docs in d aus,pls am a 100LV physiology student in OOU,bt I intend 2 apply 4 DE in2 medicine afta my 1st degree.(1) Wot level am I goin 2 start frm if I am admitted 4 medicine.
(2)iz it possible 2 apply 4 both Jamb nd DE in d same year.Thnks in anticipation.
1). Right now, a DE student starts from year 2 and undergoes five year training. But there is a new curriculum, if mdcn accepts, DE students will start from year 4 and undergo four year training.
2). Yes, it's possible to apply through both. That's what I'm doing.

Actually am from kogi state.... 1of the Elds in Nigeria.
got 250 in jamb 2016.
I hope ai m admitted ooo

for the biochem stuff, it's like that most places ooo
even in my school KSU ANYIGBA
Nice jamb score for Unical. Just ace 300+ in post ume and you're in. The competition is not that much, and considering you're from one of the ELDS, you're good to go. Just prepare wella. The Post ume usually have maths, English, computer, physics, chemistry and biology. 30mins exam (about 20 questions or so), I'm sure you know that already. Except they decide to change format.
