Most of my bcm lecturers have no time to give notes, so I listen when the lecturer is teaching and collect the jottings from a friend after class... During break (1-2pm)I rush to the library and pick the topic that was taught and brush through the textbook(lehninger)... After which I move to the other courses that were taught from 8am-1pm that day, brush through them just to get an overall idea of everything... Then after practicals for the day(2-5pm), I rush home rest a bit... It's at night I take time to study the topics taught that day... For bcm, I study that particular topic, if lehninger isn't explicit enough, I browse and get other sources, until it sticks... During weekends, I browse through anatomy courses in particular (very voluminous) When it's time for exam, I have colleagues who have time and patience to sit down and form bcm notes with textbooks and Internet source... I snap their notes and read..

I hope I've answered your question

Pls I need someone in human anatomy dept. to brief me about courses that i must offer in 200L recommended textbooks would also be appreciated. the dept. is new in my school, so we are yet to be given handbooks.

It depends on your school though.... But basically, in year two I did:, gross anatomy(study of macroscopic anatomy), embryology (study of how different organs/systems/tissues originated), histology (study of microscopic anatomy), functional anatomy (study of the functions and adaptations of different organs/systems /tissues), depending on your school now, you may do biochemistry(protein, carbohydrate, lipid metabolism, study of biomolecules, DNA/RNA metabolism, etc) and physiology(renal physiology, respiratory physiology, physiology of excitable tissues, neurophysiology, etc), you will do gss courses too.
For "etc", I can't remember others, it's been quite a number of years now.

For recommended textbooks,
For gross anatomy, I used Gray's anatomy(my best), Last's anatomy, clinical anatomy and Frank Netter's Atlas
For histology, I used functional histology and Indebir Singh's histology (my best)
For embryology, I used Langman's embryology (my best).
For functional anatomy, I used my lecture notes/internet
For physiology, I used Essentials of physiology (my best), guyton's physiology
For biochemistry, I used principles of biochemistry (my best), Harper's biochemistry

I hope I helped
N/B...I'm an Anatomy graduate of Unical wink

Ekofisk:
Late Post: 11:00 AM Slot. Lagos Consulate

Status: Approved

Duration: 3 – 4 Minutes

I started reading from Part 4 and I believe there’s more than enough information for anyone as regards US-Visa Interview. Albeit, it’s important I share this overdue experience.

I tried as much as I could to be loud and exude boldness though my heart was pounding very fast (Nervousness is permissible). I was expecting a more private interview zone based on the YouTube videos I watched. Anyway, I practically lost cognizance of the fact that people were listening during the course of the interview.

VO: Good Morning
Ekofisk: Hello, Good Morning
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Ekofisk: I’m heading to the US for my masters degree in Petroleum Engineering at TTU.
VO: What do you do?
Ekofisk: I provide research support for Dr. X (VO Cuts-in)
VO: What’s the research about and what’s your role?
Ekofisk: Fluid Characterization and EOS modelling of PVT Experiments. My role is to provide research support by reviewing published literatures, software simulation of PVT experiments, Sourcing for PVT data of characterized fluid samples from Niger Delta fields amongst other sundry activities.
VO: What’s the field of this research?
Ekofisk: Petroleum Engineering
VO: Do you have a BSc.
Ekofisk: Yes I have a BSc. in Petroleum Engineering
VO: What will you do with your degree?
Ekofisk: I’ll come back to Nigeria to work as a Petrophysicist or Reservoir Engineer
VO: (Stops typing and stares right at me)
VO: Is that a smart decision given all the issues…. (I had to cut-in because I knew what she was driving at. It’s either the recent attack on oil installations or the slump in crude oil price. I tackled the latter)
Ekofisk: Absolutely, it’s a smart decision. I expect that in 2 years the price of crude will have improved and stabilized. The industry has experienced price slumps through history so I’m not going to make a career decision based on the existing market situation. Also, I can always focus on research and academia. (I was ready to keep on talking but she started typing again so I had to stop.)
VO: Who is sponsoring you?
Ekofisk: My Guardian….I noticed that she hasn’t looked at the I-20 so I added the fact that I got a scholarship that qualified me for instate tuition. (I didn’t plan to say this).
VO: Types for two minutes or thereabout...”Your Visa has been approved. Pick it up in three days”.
Ekofisk: Alright, thank you!

You are one smart being. You totally deserved it. Congrats!

You have to study a four year program(pre-med) in biology, graduate with a good GPA then apply to a med school where you spend another 4years.
As for SAT and TOEFL, it's just a requirement to get into college. I will advice you write them, get a good score, you can get a scholarship.
Thanks a lot....!

Please what's the route needed to be in a medical school in USA? Using the SAT and TOEFL? Will one have to go through a four year undergrad course before applying into the four year medical program? Or can one do A levels and enter 4year medical program directly? What steps are to be taken?

Good morning everyone. I am a UI medicine aspirant. I need someone to help me with website address to download medical texts like Guyton and Hall's physiology, Keith Moore's anatomy and the likes. I have tried 4shared.com throughout the night all to no avail. Please I need your help on this. Thank you for the anticipated magnanimity.
For e.g if you want to download Last' Anatomy textbook, just type "Last's anatomy pdf free download" into your search box on Google. You'll see lotsa options to download... That's how I got most of the softcopies I downloaded myself.

hmmm liver huh?... nice choice but your reason doesn't add up
If liver is doing its main work well(detoxification), most diseases will be avoided.

Kidney would be more specific than liver. Since all diseases would present itself in the fluid component, almost all body fluids get to the Kidney after sometime, even old CSF after replacement. Although the liver almost seems to be useful but most body fluids relatively don't get there. Brain's blood-brain barrier makes it useless here.
You're right. Kidney/liver, seems very important.

this is specifically for doc and med students buh any aspirant with in-depth knowledge could also drop an answer

if you were given a condition, in which you are to pick only one organ in the human body for the diagnosis of all patients you are to examine (i.e you can only examine that particular organ, no matter the case or patient).... which would you pick?[drop your reason(s) too]
I would say the Liver. Because with the help of the Kupffer cells, it filters out toxins capable of causing harm to any part of the body.

Physiotherapy involves the use of PHYSICAL resources to treat and rehabilitate patients. Physical resources such as heat, cold, laser, light (electro-magnetic waves), electric currrent, ultra-sound, water, wax, force, manipulation, touch, exercise etc.

Physiotherapy is Physical Medicine.

It is a massive Profession in health care...that is very interesting and lucrative.
As a Physiotherapist you can specialise in Pediatrics, Sports, Orthopedics, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Geriartry etc.

Physiotherapists DIAGNOSE patients o! They are not subordinates to other professions O! They are independent, kinda like dentistry and Optometry.
You can get a degree such as Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT)...from Nigeria. Google how! (You need plenty of hardwork..tho)
My younger brother is a Doctor of Physiotherapy..and am so proud of him! Patients love how he helps them recover quickly.
Hope this helped? Cheers.

There's something obviously wrong with your view. You cant criticize someone's ignorance and still offer to make the person learn by calling him a fool. How have you made him wiser? If he feels he wants MBBS after BDS, it is within his legal rights to. Hell, I can decide to drop medicine for yoruba edu, its choice, not ignorance. And I think, its better for the nation when the 'knowledgeable' enlighten not criticize the 'ignorants'. Thanks.

you can say that again. I've gotten into the system before i realized. FUTA runs her courses for a duration of 5 pure yrs. though, Anatomy is newly introduced, it's sure won't be an exception
. Honestly it makes no sense to me... studying human anatomy for 5years... Imagine! After the five years, no job description waiting for you as an 'anatomist' even with your first class. Sooo annoying. Ai hope you want to be a lecturer, banker, teacher, dentist or doctor..!

Anatomy in FUTA is 5 yrs
That's not fair! Why should someone read anatomy for 5yrs? When there are professional courses(same 5yrs) like radiography, medical laboratory science, nursing, etc... That's pure waste of time, money and energy.

But if I still feel like going for Med. n sug after anatomy, how many years al2gda will evryffn be....and which year 'll I start d Med n sug
4yrs anatomy+one year miscellaneous breaks+one year nysc+4/5yrs medicine=10/11years minimum... That's if you scale through anatomy and medical school without repeating any exam and you get admission immediately you tidy up nysc. You will start in year 2 or 4,depending on if the new curriculum is implemented.
