Politics / Shehu Sani Says PDP, Labour Party Will Be Dead If APC Gets Minority Leader by jerryayaebi2: 7:59pm On Jun 27, 2023
What Will Become of PDP, Labour Party If APC Gets Minority Leader, Shehu Sani Reveals

A former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, has revealed what will become of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, if the All Progressive Congress, APC get the Minority Leader in the 10th National Assembly.

Sani said the signs are there that the ruling APC wants a Minority Leader that will be a stooge to them and that will be the death of the PDP and Labour Party if that should happen.

He stated this during an interview with Arise Television on Monday, June 26.

The former lawmaker alleged that the PDP has mortgaged their responsibility of the main opposition to the Labour Party.

He said:
“The signs that are coming is that they (APC) want to have a Minority Leader that will be a stooge of the ruling party, then it is done, it will be the death of the opposition (PDP) in the National Assembly.

“Why you hear more of the Labour Party today doing the opposition, it is that PDP has mortgaged their responsibility of the main opposition to Labour Party.

“Nobody is saying you should go to the National Assembly and fight the executive, but we know fully well that the dignity of the National Assembly is centered in its independence. There will be no independence if APC gets everything.

“The Minority Leader in a parliamentary system is like the alternative government. But, if we have a Minority Leader that will play the role of the opposition, it will be better for the country,”

Education / Sanwo-olu: Tribunal Orders WAEC To Submit Result Verification Portal by jerryayaebi2: 6:47pm On Jun 27, 2023
WAEC Fails to Tender Sanwo-Olu’s Certificate, ordered to Submit Result Verification Portal

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has been ordered to submit its result verification portal back-end server for forensic analysis and other information technology infrastructure over its failure to tender Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s certificate in court.

The Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Sunday, June 25, based on the request of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Abdulazeez Adediran, to further prove their allegations that Sanwo-Olu lied on oath in his 2023 form EC9 by presenting a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2019.

A statement issued to newsmen on Monday, June 26, said a check in Sanwo-Olu’s 2019 Form CF001 revealed that the purported statement of WAEC result he claimed he sat for in 1981 in Ijebu Ife Community Grammar School was confirmed to be invalid on the WAEC result verification portal.

“While responding to Jandor/ PDP petition, Governor Sanwo-Olu didn’t attach the purported WAEC certificate to counter Jandor/PDP claims, but the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the 4th respondent attached a printout from the same WAEC portal which hitherto confirmed Sanwo-Olu’s purported WAEC result to be non-existent,” the statement added.

Jandor/PDP challenged the integrity of the sudden appearance and upload of Sanwo-Olu’s WAEC result on the verification portal and subpoenaed WAEC to come and tender the said 1981 WAEC certificate under oath in court.

According to the statement, the WAEC representative who was bid to be in court last week in the oath of witnesses deposed to and sighted said,

“I am unable to tender the duplicate copy of the May/June 1981 G.C.E. ‘O’ Level certificate of one Sanwo-Olu Babajide Olusola,” adding that the council does not produce counterpart copies of candidates’ certificates nor retain duplicate copies of candidates’ certificates.

The statement added that:
“However, a check on the WAEC website revealed that in the event of loss of the WAEC certificate, the council issues an attestation in the form of a CTC, but none of such was issued by WAEC to ascertain the claim of Babajide Sanwoolu, hence the order of the court that WAEC should submit it back end-server and other information technology infrastructure for forensic analysis.

This exercise will expose the date and time the sudden appearance of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s purported 1981 WAEC result was uploaded, as the same result wasn’t there as of APRIL 7th, 2023 when Jandor/PDP filed their petition at the tribunal.”

Politics / Tribunal Disqualifies Labour Party’s Rhodes-Vivour’s Witness Against Sanwo-Olu by jerryayaebi2: 1:48pm On Jun 16, 2023
The Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, on Thursday, June 15, disqualified Erastus Ofoma, a witness subpoenaed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

According to PM News, the Chairman of the three-man tribunal committee, Justice Arum Igyen-Ashom, held that Ofoma’s statement on oath was uploaded outside the 21 days stipulated under the Electoral Act.

The tribunal ruled on the matter after taking submissions from counsels representing parties in the petition.

Rhodes-Vivour’s representative, Dr Olumide Ayeni had earlier informed the tribunal of his intention to call the subpoenaed witness, Ofoma, stating that the witness had deposed to his statement on oath and served the respondents.

While INEC’s counsel, Eric Obigor confirmed service, Sanwo-Olu’s lawyer, Bode Olanipekun (SAN), and the APC’s counsel, Norrison Quakers (SAN) opposed the application.

Olanipekun and Quakers argued that Ofoma was not one of the witnesses in the list that accompanied the petition.

Sanwo-Olu’s counsel, Olanipekun said there was no indication on the list that any witness was going to be subpoenaed to appear before the tribunal.

He further stated that an objection was taken to evidence being deposed outside the 21 days permitted for the presentation of the petition.

A fresh fact has emerged considering a list of 27 names of “new appointees and some new ministries” allegedly made by President Bola Tinubu and has been circulating on Facebook.

Process of appointing ministers
Recall that the law passed by immediate former president Muhammadu Buhari, states that ministers are to be appointed within 60 days of the start of a new government.

The names are then sent for the lawmakers to critically examine the nominated ministers at the national assembly.

The process of confirming the nominees by the national assembly is likely to be televised live, similar to previous sessions.

Politics / “ It Has Become A Habit”: INEC Issues Strong Warning To Peter Obi by jerryayaebi2: 4:51pm On Jun 14, 2023
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has accused Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of always blaming the electoral body for their inability to prosecute their case.

INEC’s lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), said it has become a pattern for Obi and his party to always blame someone whenever they want an adjournment.

Pinheiro stated this while reacting to claim made by Obi’s lawyer, Obi, Livy Uzoukwu (SAN) that INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, declined to accept a subpoena served to him to produce some documents.

Uzoukwu made the claim mid-way into proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Wednesday, June 14

Pinheiro said: “It has become a habit. Whenever they want to seek an adjournment, they look for somebody to whip. It cannot be true that a subpoena is refused by the office of the INEC Chairman.
“Don’t use INEC as a whipping boy. If they have nothing else to do today, they should just stay so. It is their day. It is not correct that the office of INEC Chairman refused to accept a subpoena.”

Politics / “I Came To Brief The President”: Jonathan Says After Meeting President Tinubu by jerryayaebi2: 3:53pm On Jun 14, 2023
Jonathan Reveals Details of His Meeting with President Tinubu

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed the details of his meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

As reported by TheCable, Jonathan said he visited President Tinubu, on Tuesday, June 13, to brief him about the planned constitutional referendum in Mali.
The former president disclosed this while speaking with newsmen after the meeting.

Mali will conduct a referendum on a new constitution on June 18 to vote to uphold the legitimacy of the draft of the new constitution.
The referendum will be a precursor to the long-awaited elections scheduled for February 2024.

The new constitution empowers the president to appoint the prime minister and ministers, also the power to dissolve parliament.

However, a certain portion of the draft constitution describing Mali as a secular state has sparked controversy among religious leaders in the predominantly Muslim state.

Jonathan said those are the issues he discussed with Tinubu during the meeting.

Jonathan said:

Politics / Atiku Says INEC Refused To Release Documents Despite Collecting ₦‎6 Million by jerryayaebi2: 9:20pm On Jun 06, 2023
INEC Refused To Release Electoral Documents Despite Collecting N6m From us, Atiku’s Lawyer Tells Court

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been accused of frustrating the efforts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to access vital electoral documents despite paying N6 million for the certification of the documents.

Atiku’s lawyer, Eyitayo Jegede, said this on Tuesday, June 6, at the resumption of proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja, Premium Times reported.

Jegede, said INEC’s refusal to provide electoral documents to his legal team has it difficult for them to prove Atiku’s case against President Bola Tinubu.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had sought to tender some results sheets from 10 Local Government Areas of Kogi State, Ankpa, Dekina, Idah, Ofu, Olamaboro, Yagba East, Yagba West, Kabba-Bunu and Igalamela Odolu

The five-member court panel chaired by Haruna Tsammani turned down Jegede’s move to substantiate their case against Tinubu by tendering some results sheets from Ankpa, Dekina, Idah, Ofu, Olamaboro, Yagba East, Yagba West, Kabba-Bunu and Igalamela Odolu Local Government Areas of Kogi State.

The tribunal said it was improper to tender such sensitive documents piecemeal.

Tsammani explained that the court would have difficulty marking and numbering the documents as exhibits.

Defending his case, the lawyer said INEC refused to supply the documents wholesale to Atiku’s legal team.

According to Jegede, INEC allegedly refuses to make election records available after Atiku had paid N6 million as a cost to supply true certified copies of electoral documents

The lawyer disclosed that Atiku’s team was left with no option but to subpoena officials of the electoral commission to bring the required documents before the court.

Jegede sought a 24-hour adjournment to further request the necessary documents from INEC.
