Bankers, what is your annual spend on dressing? I noticed that it now a tradition or should I say a banking culture for employees to dress down in expensive suits. How much do you buy a pair of suit?
PoliticsRe: Crowd Forming At Eagle Square Over Fuel Subsidy Removal? by jerryben12: 3:13pm On Jan 02, 2012
Sirniyeh:
Street protest is senseless. Going on strike for subsidy removal is meaningless. I will not advise a reasonable person to join the protest.
I expect the selfish Labour Executive to fight Federal Gov
1. to increase minimum wages to 75k per month.
2.  To ensure the fuel price is same all over the nation. If it is 135, it must be same all over.
3. To let all state Gov subsidize the transportation by supplying public with buses at affordable fare.
4. To remove taxes for now until the economy is stable.
I think this my suggestion is sensible. No to protest. In the course of protest, many may lost their lives. Who knows who?
Beleive it, there is hope for Nigeria
Your suggestions are very reasonable. I think you should be one of NLC's advisers.

Materiality should be the guide. Determine the materiality based on th company's size(turnover, industry, activity level, opex etx). For a 1 billlion dollar company, I will not capitalize any expenses less than 500k or at worst 200k. But the company should have a documented capitalization policy and consistent with it.
Thanks

Auditing, an interesting sub of accounting, the main audit, the compliance stuffs, the main audit, preparatn of MCRs(audit report),substantive tests(vouching and verification), audit evidence,e.t.c. I did all that when i did industrial training 2yrs ago.

Quite interesting, i must say just that there were some nasty experiences which can be generalizd as part of the limitations of auditing, but aside that, its just an 'okay' sub of accounting.
Very interesting. smiley

Thank you! Also is there any guide on dollar threshold of what should be capitalized? Or this should depend on the materiality level/financial impact of the software to the company? I ask this because a multi billion dollar company may not considered a 100ksoftware to be material but a company with just 100k operating base may consider a 20k software to be material.

Software acquisition and implementation costs are to be treated as Tangibles. They are to be warehoused into an a/c, possibly work-in-progress, and upon completion of the project, amortised over 5 years(i.e 20 percent per annum). i think the SAS on Tangibles, R and D cover it.
Thanks! But is it appropriate to capitalize all implementation activities that has cost component? Things like training and transportation expenses during implementation? These do not directly add value to the software.
CareerRe: Accountants' Forum. by jerryben12: 3:58pm On Jan 01, 2012
For software acquisition and implementation, is there a clear line from GAAP on what should be capitalized or expensed? Also, how will you determine the annual depreciation percentage year over year till you completely write off the capital portion of the implementation?

1. Isnt Auditing a subset of Accounting?

2. What should we expect from the cashless society, 2012 and beyond? More fraud?
1. It all depends on your control environment. Mostly, organizations considers auditing as part of the finance entity and so is accounting. That is why the audit shop has a dotted reporting line to the CFO and a solid reporting line to the audit committee. Functionally, auditing is more than just testing numbers for accuracy or performing reconciliation of financials. Auditing also includes assessing business and control processes across all departments (accounting, marketing, sales, information technology, human resources, loss prevention, supply chain, etc).
2. Cashless society is the use of alternate means of payments for good and services. This could be use of payment cards, pay pall, wire transfers etc. In 2012 and beyond, the world will experience high volumes of the use of these means of payments. Since these cashless means of payments are processed electronically and involves payment data transfers between merchants and processors, electronic security risks will also increase. The bad boys out there will come out with more sophisticated ways to steal payment files. More compliance requirements will be expected from governmental and regulatory agencies for payment processing.

Hope these helps.

HAPPY NEW!!

FoodRe: What's The Best Time To Eat Eba And Soup In Your Household?. by jerryben12: 5:33pm On Dec 19, 2011
Eba is made from cassava. Cassava flakes is made from cassava. People eat cassava flakes as breakfast. What is wrong with eating eba for breakfast? It is perfectly ok to eat eba for breakfast, lunch and dinner as long at you limit the quantity you consume and drink plenty of water. Also, eat fruits after each meal. Small quantity in the morning because your digestive system is just waking up, a little more for lunch because your digestive system is fully up and little for dinner because your digestive system is slowing down for night time rest.

Eba is better than rice and pounded yam because it has lower %age of carbs. At least 50% of the carb in garri is removed during processing leaving eba with high %age of fiber. We all know that fiber hastens digestion.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Wow 8 years! I have been pushing the exam forward for the past 2 years, I just summoned courage to go for it this december.

These are exams you can't just read and pass, you have to be on top of your game. By the time you pass it, some knowledge would not depart from you forever.

I contemplated going for Cissp earlier, but that beast is way too strong for me right now cheesy
Experience and exposure in governance, risk, compliance, controls etc is the key.

I wrote this exam last week, I wouldn't say it was difficult but it was very tricky. You have to view things from an Auditor's perspective. Fingers crossed!
You are very correct. All the answers are correct, however you need an auditors perspective to know the most reasonable answer. Wishing you the best of luck. I have been affiliated with ISACA for eight years.

Nonesense! Time shall tell. They will all beg like Gaddafi shortly before his last breath. With Libya doing it with a population of just 6.4M, Nigeria will do it faster with a population of 160M.
