Career › Re: I Want To Quit My Job And Live On My Savings by Jethrolite(m): 7:33am On Feb 05, 2018 |
sabanageorge: Please no bad words.
I have a sizable number of investments. Every month I make about 400k from my investments. I also invested in crypto. The market has been crazy these past weeks, but even with the recession I have about $100k. But I have not cashed out. I don't want to. I want to keep it till year's end, when it may be bigger or maybe zero. who knows. Then I have my job, which isn't bad, which has earned me all of this. But I'm getting tired of it already and I want to quit. Hoping to live on the 400k I make every month from my investments and a possible larger payout from crypto by the end of the year. What do you think?
Just a few words of advice. You are not about to live on your savings rather it is passive income. Try to sort things out with your job if not, I believe you have gotten to the point where your passive income surpasses your monthly expense. You can quit and focus on growing your business. If you do a good job, in 10 years or less, you could be making your current annual turnover in a month. |

hungryboy: i was hoping to see a guy who had 2billion naira in the bank, with 1.5 billion of it in fixed deposit giving him 10 - 15% interest yearly and the other 500million in a savings account, saying this. Which bank in Nigeria pays 15% on tenured deposits? |

DonX001: Lol, the Nairaland of today is just a garbage dump with a few gems buried within it, buried deep and far apart. To get to the gems, you have to swim through a pile of garbage.
Its sad how we got here, compared to the Nairaland of 2006-2010.
Most of the sensible people don't bother posting anymore since the place is overridden with trash.
Really wish we could have another forum where there are just reasonable people with sensible posts, like the way Nairaland used to be like 10years ago before internet was freely accessible to every dumbass in their diapers. Just a matter of time, it will happen. |

EgunMogaji: An inteligent response.
So, here's what I wrote.
Quack or no Quack (no one should hire a Quack in the first place). Small self-builds, like what the OP posted, doesn't need a QS to be involved. Nothing anyone can say will ever change that opinion of mine. QS on here have tried before and I will always defend my opinion.
To say recommend in a blanket manner that ALL builds require a QS is ludicrous. Lol @ the first paragraph, what sort of QS will even want to be awarded that job? Na so life hard am reach. You are very correct, it is almost like common sense. |
Properties › Re: How To Calculate Number Of Blocks For Your Building Project In 2 Simple Steps. by Jethrolite(m): 4:59pm On Feb 03, 2018 |
EgunMogaji: Quantity Surveyor is the most useless profession in small self builds.
I encourage no one waste their money on such nonsense.
The cost to hire a quantity surveyor can be used towards the project.
PS: I’ll be waiting for the associate members of Nairaland QS to respond with their typical hungry vitriol Are you referring to actual quantity surveyors and estate valuers or you mean quacks parading as professionals? |

Basiljoe: If they integrate with yudala, they could pose some serious competition to jumia and position themselves as top Ecommerce in Nigeria/Africa since yudala has some chain stores and operate with both online and offline model. It would be much easier to establish branches across the nation with chain stores, and then woo customers to E-commerce. Sounds like a nice deal to me. Just like the Amazon Go shop |

PrecisionFx: Ur not a serious businessman Sometimes people learn the hard way. Last year I lost N7.5m to a similar scam but the case is almost going to court and the thief is running around to pay my money to prevent prison. I made my money online, I've run businesses worth millions of naira here without ever meeting the other parties in person. When this happens, you tend to believe everyone here is like that and get relaxed but I've learnt my lessons and I believe this OP will too. |

It's either PMB knows he will loose or he's bidding time You want a Major to probe his General? Obasanjo, Gowon and I think IBB are the only people who can pull this stunt successfully. |

Business › Re: Paddy Adenuga: "I Nearly Acquired Chevron Netherlands At 29" by Jethrolite(m): 12:07am On Feb 01, 2018 |
LaudateII: No sir, I know people who write like that. If you do a lot of reading, you would have come across quite a few people who do so. Writing is a talent or an innate gift, just like singing. And you can build on it, polish it, nurture it and master the craft with dedication, discipline and skill.
How do you think professional writers build their skills? While I do not dispute the fact that a rich person can hire anyone to put together his own story, I have a feeling Paddy wrote this article, all by himself. I hear he has been writing screenplays, since he was a teenager. I was referring to him even when I made it seem general, if bolded is true then good for him. |
Business › Re: Paddy Adenuga: "I Nearly Acquired Chevron Netherlands At 29" by Jethrolite(m): 10:44pm On Jan 31, 2018 |
LaudateII: Paddy is such a gifted writer. He shared his story in such an articulate, touching way. If he ever gets bored of the business world, he should venture into the literary circle. He'd make not just lots of money, but also get a large cult following, who would hang on I doubt he did the writing himself, he probably created a voice note and had a professional writer create the write up for him. You ought to see that easily, no one writes like that. Believe me, when you operate on that level, you get people to do these things for you, he simply records the story, gets a writer to properly present it, edit and create a final copy. I won't be surprised if this writeup is a chapter in his autobiography. |

MrMcJay: Just look at the comments on this thread and you'll realise that more Nigerians suffer from intellectual poverty than financial poverty.
The lessons to be learnt from that article are more than what some Nigerians learnt in their entire time spent in school and they don't have the wisdom to read and pick a lesson or two.
10 Years from now, Paddy would be a billionaire under 40, some people who picked lessons from this article might have surpassed Paddy in wealth but our dumb friends would still be shouting "I receive" in Church not knowing that their Pastors are also reading and picking lessons from this post. I was reading comments and almost felt like crying. I find solace in the fact that crass people are the ones who comment most here, the real quality members are mostly visitors and usually only observe when they create an account. |

This guy did not hear of the SUG president that was expelled and banned from gaining admission into any school in Nigeria. After close to 10 years at home, he came back to beg and completed his education. Nigeria was not as bad as this then, but there was also no Facebook then. I really wish him special intervention and justice. |
Career › Re: 7 Industries And Career Fields For Comfortable Living In Nigeria by Jethrolite(m): 6:08pm On Jan 29, 2018 |
Gerrard59: Certainly, not all doctors are not very rich, but most live a comfortable life. Yes, you need money to live a comfortable life, but not as you put it. Which is why the article uses the word comfortable as opposed to rich Doctors find it hard to get employed and many settle for really poor pay in private hospitals. Being a doctor in Nigeria will not guarantee you a comfortable life even when employed. Also ICT personnel in telecommunications earn way more than the average oil worker. You can not categorise telecommunications companies with servicing companies in the sector, it is like saying getting a job with Chevron (blue badge) is the same with getting a job in Forte oil. You cannot mention Mtn, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile in the same sentence with IHS Towers. Please conduct better research next time, this does not tell well about your consulting firm and the research it does. |

KushyKush: To be honest though, Christianity never gives good stories of joy, peace, happiness and all sorts. It is always a story of hell and horrors to come.
Discover Christianity for yourself, all you have to do is accept Jesus Christ and believe in your heart that you are saved. Get baptised with water and you're done. You become immune to sin and death. If only people truly understood these things. Life as a Christian is the best. |

All appointments are skewed towards that goal. Do not have defeat mentality, you're quite factual but we will conquer. Should PDP get their calculations right and field someone who is fearless and determined, we will conquer. If he insists on ruling then there won't be a country for him to rule. |
