Abia State Government has given more clarifications on why it kept off from the burial of the remains of the late Senator Uche Chukwumerije, representing Abia North Senatorial District.
The state government was conspicuously absent at the burial of the remains of the ex- Biafran parrot last Friday in his Isuochi country home.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Anthony Agbazuere, said the state government decided to stay away from the event “to respect the wishes of Chukwumerije and his family, who asked the government to steer clear from the burial.”
Agbazuere said that “no responsible person or government could have ignored such an instruction”, adding that even while he was sick, no member of the deceased’s family bothered to inform the Abia State Government that he had serious health challenges.
He said, “That notwithstanding, when the news of the death of the senator was received, the governor, Chief T.A. Orji, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, sent out a condolence message which was widely publicised by both the print and electronic media.”
Agbazuere further said that the deceased’s children turned down a request by the governor to pay them condolence visit in their Abuja residence, with a threat to beat up the Abia Liaison Officer in charge of Abuja, Mr. Ogbonna Agbiri Anyaoha, who conveyed the governor’s message.
“Chukwumerije’s family threatened to beat up Anyaoha, if not that he is their brother from Isuochi in Umunneochi LGA”, he said.
He said that the Chukwumerijes kept the state government in the dark concerning his burial arrangements.
“The Governor sent the Commissioner for Justice and the Attorney General of the state, Chief Umeh Kalu, to the Chukwumerije’s family to secure the date and time for his planned condolence visit, which the first son of the deceased, Che Chidi Chukwumerije, and others rebuffed and signalled that they were not expecting the governor and that he should steer clear of the burial.
“Chukwumerije’s family further told the attorney general that they had instructions from their father not to allow the governor or the state government to play any role in his funeral, contending that they will not want to go against their father’s wish,” he said.
According to the government’s spokesperson, other spirited efforts through Chukwumerije’s lawyer, his aide, Tom Ezeikpe, and others did not change the position of the family.

The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu has appealed to aggrieved members of the party to sheath their swords and work towards the party’s revival.
He urged party stakeholders across the country to put behind the disappointment of defeat, rest all misunderstandings and put the survival and stability of the party ahead of all other considerations.
Mu’azu said this in a statement he signed. It was made available to newsmen via e-mail in Abuja, on Tuesday.
The chairman also placed a media embargo on his aides barring them from speaking to journalists on any party issue.
He said, though the party’s defeat in the last general election is painful, members should key into the intervention by President Goodluck Jonathan and not allow the situation to further divide the party.
Mu’azu said, “The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has noted the various reactions that trailed the unfortunate loss of our great party in the last general elections.
“In the last few weeks, the media has been fishing on these reactions with a section even blowing it out of proportion to a level that has become a threat to our oneness as a family.
“As the National Chairman and a key stakeholder in this party in the last 16 years, I quite understand and appreciate the concern, pain and frustrations of our members regarding our defeat.
“I am also deeply worried about the division the development has generated within the PDP family especially regarding whether or not the national leadership should be dissolved as a direct consequence of our collective challenge.
“In the course of events, there have been reactions and counter-reactions among party members; mistakes have been made, some of them avoidable, but this is the time to put all of them behind us and move ahead as our party and its interest remain paramount and overriding.”
He accused the media of fueling the embers of disunity by allegedly misrepresenting the crisis, this he said, “contributed immensely to the misunderstanding we are facing in our fold.”
Mu’azu also extended an olive branch to his most ardent critic and vocal advocate for his resignation, Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, whom he praised for strengthening the PDP with the victory in Ekiti State.
He said,“Having been a state governor on the platform of this party for eight years and having the grace of being a committed member for the past 16 years, I very much appreciate the reactions of some of our members like Governor Ayo Fayose, whose victory in Ekiti in June last year helped to strengthen our party, particularly in the southwest region.
“Nevertheless, in the larger interest of our party, we all must resolve to bury the hatchet, pick our pieces and move on to rebuild our party and return to our winning ways.”
He enjoined the party faithful to cooperate with the party leadership which has set the machinery in motion by the constitution and inauguration of the Post Election Assessment Committee headed by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
Mu’azu also used the opportunity to dispel insinuations that he fled the country, he explained that he left the country to seek medical attention abroad on the advice of his doctors, he promised to return to the country “soon.”

IT once happened to our own Daniel Amokachi.Voodoo men performed some magic and Amokachi believed them.
How Amokachi was charmed, conned
He had been injured while still playing in Europe. It was such a bad injury that playing football again seemed difficult. A family friend of Adebayo told us more about the outrage from Togo. It is a stunning account of a drowning player who needs help if not to revive his football at least to live and enjoy his hard earned money before the swindler appropriates all and renders him a wreck.

“It’s amazing that Adebayo could think that her mother who prayed and protected him till he became a man and star would work against him. He has declared war on his family. It is sickening. His younger brother Rotimi plays for a third division here in Togo and begs to do laundry job at the club to survive. And that’s the brother of a man who earns thousands of pounds a week.

He once boasted that he could command Adebayo to stay in one place and when people doubted him he lured Adebayo to visit him. He did and he asked him to stay in one room and never to step out. People around were amazed that it was the same Adebayo that they see on television as a super star that was being so easily manipulated.

The man took Adebayo to the corner and when they truly saw a snake there, Adebayo believed that it was his mum that sent the snake after him. Family affair
Foussena Djagba is in charge of Adebayo’s domestic matters in Togo and in Ghana. She has never commented on the saga and our contact was asked to reach her for comments. Foussena said the Adebayo affair was a family matter that was being addressed at that level. She bluntly refused to make further comments. She also said that she was no longer Adebayo’s publicist.
Adebayo under Keshi
When my contact in Togo first told me about the agony of Adebayo, I was disappointed but not surprised that the young man would be this vulnerable to men who claim to possess power through extra ordinary ways. During the qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup I travelled to Togo to cover their match with Senegal. Current Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, was Togo’s coach and had guided them well in the qualifiers.
Togo made it to Germany but Keshi who piloted their affairs was surprisingly disengaged and he did not eventually take Togo to the World Cup. The home match against Senegal was one of his great moments. They won 4-2 in a dramatic match. The story on Adebayo was while I was in Togo was interesting. Once, he broke camp rule, left camp on the eve of the match and returned late in the night, well beyond midnight.
Keshi had made up his mind to decamp his captain and was planning how to call a press conference to tell the media what Adebayo did and why he would not play. Adebayo was said to have pleaded with Keshi and informed that his night outing was for the interest of the team and that Keshi should show great understanding. The night outing was not for any social matter. Adebayo exuded confidence in telling Keshi that “I went to guarantee my goals and they assured me that I would score two goals.”
Keshi was momentarily speechless and when he gathered himself together he excused him and dropped the sanction. Interestingly, Adebayo scored two goals in that match. Keshi was stunned and would never forget that incident. Adebayo scoring two goals could have been coincidental and not by the power of voodoo and Keshi tried to stay away from their “ways” and concentrated on his coaching.
But that incident during the 2006 World Cup qualifying games has never escaped my memory. It showed how Adebayo could be swayed by fetish exercises. Many years on I couldn’t, therefore, be surprised that he is being consumed by the powers that he assumed brought him fame more than his God-given talents.

Police have seized three million toxic condoms in Shangai allegedly being sold by a gang of factory workers,

Lagos - Afrobeat act Seun Kuti acknowledges
that the Oba of Lagos was wrong for making an

From toy-shaped cigarette lighters to a short-
circuting plush rabbit that catches fire, a European
safety watchdog warned Monday of a growing
number of dangerous products for sale, with most
coming from China.
The watchdog said it had issued 2,435
notifications of unsafe products ranging from
children’s playthings to clothing and appliances in
2014, which was three percent more than in
2013.
Sixty-four percent of the dangerous goods were
made in China, including Hong Kong, the same
figure as 2013, said the Rapid Alert System
(RAPEX), which includes the 28 EU states as well
as Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
“For me, as a mother and already a grandmother,
the high number of harmful products among toys
is alarming, so please beware of what you give
your children to play with,” said Vera Jourova, the
European commissioner for consumer affairs.
“It was also surprising how high a number of
harmful products comes to the European market
from China,” she told a press conference in
Brussels.
Toys topped the list of products stopped before
they entered European markets or were seized
afterwards, at 28 percent, followed by clothing
(23 percent), electrical appliances (nine percent)
and motor vehicles (eight percent).
They included soft toys with stuffing that could
come loose and choke a child or those with
detachable pieces that could be swallowed by
them. In particular there were lighters that
resembled toys such as model bicycles and
basketballs.
Shoes and leather articles for example may be
tainted with allergenic Chromium VI, while fashion
jewellery may contain harmful heavy metals.
Just 14 percent of the dangerous products came
from European countries, seven percent from
unknown origins and two percent from Turkey,
according to the watchdog.
Concern remains over the proportion coming to
Europe from manufacturing giant China, which
has huge market penetration in the 28-nation EU,
Jourova said.
“The numbers and the situation is not improving,”
she added.

A Hong Kong man who killed, dismembered,
salted and cooked his parents was sent to prison
for life on Monday after being found guilty of
double murder. The conviction of Henry Chau, 31,
on Friday concluded a gruesome case that
shocked the city in 2013 when the severed heads
of Chau’s elderly parents were found stuffed into
two refrigerators.
During the 20-day trial at the city’s high court,
the jury heard how Chau had dismembered his
elderly parents before salting, cooking and
packing their body parts into lunchboxes “like
barbecued pork”.
“Your sentence on Count 1 and Count 2 is that
you go to prison for life,” judge Michael Stuart-
Moore told Chau, referring to the double murder
charges. Sitting in the defendant’s dock, Chau,

years and four months in jail for two separate

Nigeria is bearing the financial burden of the operations by multinational forces against Boko Haram insurgents, findings by The PUNCH on Sunday have revealed.

The troops from Nigeria’s neighbours – Chad and Niger – it was learnt in Abuja, receive N146.25m monthly as pocket and feeding allowances from the Federal Government.

The sum is however different from that paid by Nigeria for fuelling of the operational vehicles of the foreign troops and other logistics, which our source did not state.

A breakdown of the N146.2m shows that the 2,500 troops contributed by Chad receive N112.5m monthly while the 750 soldiers from Niger get N33.75m.

Thus each of the soldiers from the two countries gets N45,000 monthly as pocket and feeding allowances, the same amounts paid their Nigerian counterparts.

The joint war was initiated by the governments of Nigeria, Chad and Niger to flush out the insurgents from the North-East and to halt their incursion into the two Francophone countries.

It was further gathered that the two Francophone countries, are in addition to the allowances paid by Nigeria, making demands for funding by the international community.

Our source, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not permitted to speak on the issue, said, “Although, it is a joint operation, a kind of sub-regional collaborative effort, Nigeria is the only country funding the operations.

“The arrangement is not such that each participating country funds its defence forces deployed for the operation.

“Nigeria is funding the operation to the extent of providing the allowances for all the Chadian and Nigerien troops involved.

“Apart from that, the country is also providing for the feeding of these troops and fuelling all their operational vehicles.”

It was further gathered that in spite of the sacrifices being made by the Federal Government, the joint operation is being threatened by mutual suspicion.

There are allegations that reports about the conflict in the international media are being manipulated by Chadians in the mission area to portray Nigerian troops in bad light.

It was learnt that the Defence Headquarters was not comfortable with the slanting of stories to highlight supposed exploits of the supporting countries to the detriment of the Nigerian forces and indeed the country.

The report that Chadian troops liberated Damasak, a border community between Nigeria and Niger on March 9, 2015 was mentioned as one of such.

In it, the Chadians were reported to have killed 200 insurgents while liberating the town.

However, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah, told journalists on Monday that the town was still in terrorists’ hands.

It was further gathered that the mutual suspicion was exacerbated by an incident which resulted in the killing of an unspecified number of Nigerian troops by insurgents on their way to Dikwa.

The New York Times quoted the Chadian Foreign Minister, Moussa Mahamat, as having said that “the Nigerian Army has not succeeded in facing up to Boko Haram.”

He had added, “The occupation of these towns, this is up to Nigeria. My fondest wish is that they assume their responsibilities.

“Our biggest wish is that the Nigerian Army pulls itself together — that it takes responsibility in the towns. We are ready to disengage, right away.”

However, the Director Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, who dismissed the claim on Saturday, said, “It is not true that our soldiers are not willing to take over such communities. There is no town that our soldiers have liberated that is not being well secured and well patrolled at the moment.

“We have always warned against irresponsible comments in this collaboration and we are not ready to join issues with anybody. We will do everything to sustain this collaboration.”

Attempts to get Olukolade to comment on Nigeria’s financial commitment to the ongoing operation were unsuccessful on Sunday.

Calls to his mobile telephone number did not connect as of the time of 8pm.

A SUSPECTED gun-runner has denied selling over
200 Ak 47 rifles as alleged by the Police.
The suspect, Andrew Moukwue, who was among
the eight suspected criminals paraded yesterday
and currently facing interrogation at the Special
State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos
State Police Command, told newsmen that he had
long been in the business of AK 47 rifle sales.
“Really, I sell AK47 to people but not 200 as the
Police is saying. I know that the business I do is
illegal but things are difficult and man must wack
(eat).”
“I started the business many years ago but I was
working under someone. When he died, I decided
to start my own. I have a shop in Onitsha main
market, Anambra State. I just stay in the shop
and wait for customers. I don’t sell anything else.
There is nothing in the shop, but I hold my mobile
phone and, through it, I make contact and
negotiate deals with my prospective customers”
“I used to buy the guns from a customer in
Ibadan, Oyo State. I used to buy one for N300,
00O and I sold to end users between N350, 000
to N400, 000. I was always very careful with the
people I sold to. I was selling to businessmen
and people who have problems in their
communities. Some communities in Anambra are
having one clash or the other, so I was selling to
those who needed guns to defend their
communities.”
“I will not tell you lies, I have made money
through the business. By the grace of God, I have
built a befitting house,
I have two good cars and my children are in good
schools. My wife is looking good. I don’t know
why the devil came to distract me. I won’t tell
you lies, I only sold about 100 AK47. Let the
Police say the truth. Were they there when I was
selling the guns? I am the one who sold the guns,
how can another person tell me how many I sold.
I know the business is illegal and that armed
robbers use AK47 to operate, but I did not sell to
armed robbers but to responsible people and
community leaders.”
“I feel so sorry if anyone had used the gun he
bought from me to commit crime, but I did not
sell to them to do evil. Let the government forgive
me,” Moukwue confessed.
One of his accomplices, Christopher Edwin said:
“My sin is that I assisted him in selling 14 AK47
rifles. I knew the business was evil but I needed
to survive. I would collect from him for N350,OOO
and sell for N400,0000. I just started the business
so I won’t say that I have made money or not.
To be candid, I sold guns to businessmen and not
to hoodlums. I was the person who led the Police
to my master. I also led the Police to some of the
places they recovered the guns. I know that I
have done evil against man and God but I did not
know the implication until I was told about the
implication of the guns falling into the hands of
armed robbers. Please let the Police temper
justice with mercy.”
The State Commissioner Of Police Mr Kayode
Aderanti, who paraded the suspect among others
at his office in GRA, Ikeja, said based on the
follow-up of a case, one Andrew Moukwue was
arrested in Onitsha and upon interrogation, he
confessed to have sold over 200 Ak47 rifles
smuggled from Mali to several criminals and
militants in Anambra, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, Enugu
and Lagos States.
Aderanti said: “He led SARS Opertatives back to
Onitsha where one Christopher Edwin was
arrested and three Ak47 rifles were recovered. He
further led SARS team to Rivers State where
Peter Onyeale and Okpara Reginald were arrested
and four English pistols, two Barreta pistols and
two Brownie pistols were also recovered”
He said detectives have embarked on intensive
combing in Bayelsa, Enugu and Abia states to fish
out the remaining gang members who have gone
underground after hearing of the arrest of

General Buhari will be standing trial for his
crimes against humanity where over 800
Nigerian youths were killed during the post-
election crisis in 2011, and another 65,000
persons displaced. The family of the slain have
already given their evidence and are seeking
justice for the death of the family members.
Joint as co- plaintiffs in the case are youths
that were dismembered and handicapped during
the post-election crisis. Also as evidence are
recordings of General Buhari publicly inciting his
followers to kill all those that tried to take away
their votes. In another evidence, are voice
recordings of Buhari where he told some
members of the press that the youths that died,
deserved to die.
Findings revealed that the General was actually
kept in the custody of the police in an
undisclosed location for four days while members
of the opposition rallied round for his bail. As we
speak, some members has been held as surety
for the General with some advance bonds have

A group of children in Yemen have attempted to
burn a 10-year-old boy to death after first
locking him in a cage in a shocking imitation of
the Islamic State’s murder of a Jordanian pilot.
As many as seven boys are believed to have
attacked the yet unnamed victim in Al Dahthath
village in the country’s northern Ibb province,
according to Daily Mail UK .
The helpless child was thrown in a wooden cage,
had petrol poured over his body before being set
alight. Thankfully a group of locals spotted the
attack and managed to save the boy’s life,
although he was still left with horrific burn
injuries on his legs.
During the attack, the boys are said to have
assumed different terrorist roles, with the ‘leader’
sitting in a chair and giving orders to his friends.
“The villagers took him to a local hospital where
he received treatment for burns to one of his
legs,” Mr. Mouzahem, a local said.
News of the attack is coming just weeks after
video emerged showing a group of young Yemeni
boys reenacting the brutal murder of 21 Egyptian
Coptic Christians by Islamic State militants in
Libya. The grainy mobile phone footage was
reportedly filmed somewhere on the Gulf coast in
Yemen.

A YouTube video of a monk in Thailand praying
calmly in a pot of boiling oil has recently been
making the rounds online, leaving shocked
viewers wondering how the monk did it without
writhing in pains.
The monk, from Thailand’s Nong Bua Lamphu
province, according to Bangkok Post, looks at
ease despite sitting in a vessel of oil with fire
raging underneath. He is also seen sharing his
magical powers with others by touching objects
that they pass to him. His followers believe that
his touch can make their amulets or pieces of
fabric powerful. These objects are apparently
sold to the locals and other places of worship.
But not everyone believes the act was real. A
science instructor, Jessada Denduangboripant of
Chulalongkorn University, said there was no
proof that the oil was really boiling at the time.
“The only way to prove it is to measure the
temperature of the oil he’s sitting in,” she wrote.
“The oil doesn’t look like its boiling and the pan
just looks strange. The pan might have two
layers to insulate the heat,” he said.
According to the description of the original
YouTube video of the monk performing this
incredible feat, a blend of herbs is first applied to
the surface of the container to reduce the high
heat, but the feat is still seen as dangerous. By
performing such a test, Buddhist monks prove
their strength and determination to the people.
