A German newspaper in the northern port city of Hamburg that reprinted caricatures of Prophet Muhammad from the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo was the target of an arson attack, according to police. The regional tabloid daily, the Hamburger Morgenpost , was attacked on Sunday after it had splashed three Charlie Hebdo cartoons on its front page after the massacre at the Paris publication, running the headline “This much freedom must be possible!” “Rocks and then a burning object were thrown through the window,” a police spokesman told AFP news agency. “Two rooms on lower floors were damaged but the fire was put out quickly”. No one was hurt in the attack, which police said occurred at about 01:20 GMT. Two people were detained, while state security has opened an investigation, police said. German news agency DPA reported that the attack had occurred from a courtyard of the building and hit the newspaper’s archive room where some records were destroyed. It quoted a police spokeswoman as saying that the editorial team should be able to continue work in the building as the damage was relatively minor. Whether there was a connection between the Charlie Hebdo cartoons and the attack was the “key question”, the police spokesman said, adding that it was “too soon” to know for certain. Police declined to provide further information about the suspects. No one at the Hamburger Morgenpost , known locally as the MOPO and which has a circulation of around 91,000, could immediately be reached for comment. “Thick smoke is still hanging in the air, the police are looking for clues,” the newspaper said in its online edition. Two gunmen stormed the offices of Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday, killing a total of 12 people including the paper’s editor, Stéphane Charbonnier. Both men were killed Friday in a standoff with police. Several German newspapers had published the Charlie Hebdo Muhammad cartoons on their front pages on Thursday in a gesture of solidarity with the French cartoonists and in defence of free speech. http://www.punchng.com/news/german-newspaper-attacked-over-cartoons/ |

A former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, ‘Gen’ Reuben Wilson, has denied the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for February election. Muhammadu Buhari Vanguard reports that Wilson urged Nigerians to disregard the said endorsement, assuring that the ex-militants were all for President Goodluck Jonathan in next month’s presidential election. MEND, is believed to have been hit by a crisis as Jomo Gbomo, who speaks for the group, has lambasted the PDP, and Ijaw Youth Congress, IYC, for questioning its credibility and describing the movement as a ghost organisation because of its proclaimed support for Buhari. “MEND views the recent question and statement credited to the PDP National publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, as very callous and irresponsible. The question: ‘Explain your connections with MEND’ further confirms and vindicates our views about President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP. MEND strongly denies any links with the APC and has never been approached for anything, at any point in time, by the party, as alleged by Olisa Metuh,” Gbomo said. Meanwhile, Wilson, who spoke for the ex- militant commanders, also urged Nigerians to ignore the alleged endorsement of Buhari, saying; it is part of the APC propaganda ahead of the general elections. Wilson, who is now a pastor while reaffirming the ex-warlords support for President Jonathan’s re-election, said: “MEND ceased to exist from the day we all keyed into the amnesty programme of the Federal Government,” adding that what they had as Jomo Gbomo was a pseudonym used by the ex-agitators to prosecute their crusade as MEND years back. “We challenge the Jomo Gbomo to show his face on a national television the way we will do, as we have always done. Since we left the creeks, we have integrated into the society, contributing to the development of the country. We have stopped all forms of militant activities under any guise, including MEND activities.” The repented militant further reiterated that at the moment there was nothing like Jomo Gbomo or MEND, stressing that they owned MEND and also collapsed it after they embraced the Federal Government’s amnesty programme. “We have read and heard of reports in the media on the purported endorsement of the APC presidential candidate, Buhari, and have decided to inform the public that we, the former leaders of militant camps, who owned and controlled the activities of MEND, did not and could not have endorsed Buhari as our candidate. We are aware that the APC and their presidential candidate are desperate for power and are ready to do anything to mislead the public as part of their desperate efforts to take over power this year. But it is criminal to use the name of MEND to score a cheap point and deceive the public. For the avoidance of doubt, let us put it clearly that we owned MEND and we never endorsed Buhari. Neither Buhari nor MEND can shave our head in our absence,” he said. It would be recalled that the ex-militants of the Niger Delta region declared they would do everything to ensure that President Jonathan not only contest the 2015 presidential race, but also completes his second term in 2019 . http://www.naij.com/357822-ex-mend-commanders-deny-endorsing-buhari.html |
News has emerged today that Emir of Kano is set to marry daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa , Alhaji Muhammadu in line with Islamic injunction which prescribes a maximum of four wives for those who can treat all of them equally. Nigerians Immediately reacted to the information. But mostly they condemned emir because of the age of the bride. “How could a 53 year-old educated man shamelessly “marry” a 17-year old child in this 21st century? To hide this filth in the religion of Islam makes it even more noxious. Does Sanusi not have a child that young or even older ?”, questioned a lawyer, Mr Adiele. Another observer wrote: “the thing with our Muslims in Northern Nigeria is that they want to be more Muslim than the Arabs. Sanusi is supposed to be a former Kings College student who went on to be the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. One would have thought his forays into rounded and secular societies would have broadened his scope a bit .” “Shame on Muslims for exhibiting this regressive static culture. It is not imperative for every aspect of the Koran to be truly interpreted. I don’t care what anybody says, a 17 year old is not fully formed, mentally, physically and spiritually. “Shame on Lamido Sanusi, for marrying a girl who isn’t even eligible to vote in the coming elections.” Emir Sanusi is set to MARRY a 17year old? What in God's name is wrong with Northern muslim leaders? Sanusi of all people? 17yrs old bride? Some other residents said we need to respect the religion of other people: “That’s The Emir’s Religion and belief. Pls lets learn to respect one another’s religion and belief. The change we seek for lies within Us” “Some people here are just an unrepentant hypocrite, most of you who are condemning this Emir sleep around with 15 years old girls at every corner and you never married them, this man is getting married to a 17-yr-old and not sleeping or doing any adultery things with her. You should all learn to respect people religion and custom right which is applicable to each region stop this unnecessary hatred.” Some Northern Muslims have risen in defense of Sanusi’s marriage by confirming the wedding but rfusing that the age of the bride is not 17. Furthermore, they discuss that such weddings (between members of key royal familes) is quite shared and they are merely meant to solidify relations between royal kingdom. But according to Ezeana Igirigi Achusim, the girl could be 15 for all we know. “This wife will die an illiterate. Or will Emir allow her to attend college and interact with kids her age before he makes a mother out of her? At 17, does she have her WAEC certificate? Ten years from now the palace will tell us the army has her certificates .” In his first interview as Emir of Kano Sanusi while speaking about child marriage said that the situation when girls are being taken from schools and married off “is not consistent with the teachings of the religion .” “Or the high rates of divorce and, basically, a lack of concern for the rights of women.” link- http://www.naij.com/353826-emir-sanusi-53-attacked-marrying-17-year-old-girl-4th-wife.html |

Church worshiping Beyoncé has already started losing their members to the cold hands of death. Taniya Hattersfield, aged 23, of College Park, GA was recently found dead of self-inflicted stab wounds to her chest.Taniya Hattersfield who was a new member of the National Church of Bey, an organization practicing the religion called Beyism. The Church was founded to worship the R&B star, Beyoncé Knowles, with hundreds of members who call themselves Divine Divas and even see Beyoncé’s music as a very sacred text. The founder of the National Church of Bey, has defended the church, and says Beyoncé is lord and saviour. Taniya Hattersfield was found in a pool of her own blood in the basement of her family home, where she was surrounded by hundreds of candles and a suicide note she had written stuffed behind her pocket. She lay at the steps of a homemade shrine to singer Beyoncé. The actual content of the note she left behind was not revealed by the Police, but the Police made it clear that the member of the National Church of Bey took her own life as a sacrifice to Beyoncé at the request of the Church. The young girl’s mother who had almost lost her mind from the terrible action of her daughter screamed that her daughter was crazy to have taken her own life because of lightskin b*tch that sings. ’’I mean, I know that’s my daughter, but I’m just keepin’ it real”, she said. Hattersfield father said he does not consider her his daughter anymore, that his own offspring would never worship any singers. He said just because him and her mother had a good time one Friday night don’t make his my daughter. Taniya Hattersfield’s body according to reports was yet to be claimed by any of her family members. If her body is not claimed, Taniya Hattersfield may finally be buried in a Potter’s Field, a cemetery typical for homeless people that have got no known families to claim them. Meanwhile, rage has consumed lots of people over the National Church of Bey, and many people have called for Beyoncé to speak out against the new religion, but not one single word has come out of Beyoncé mouth. Insult to intelligence The larger population of the North is an elephant in the Nigerian living-room. According to the last disputed census of 2006, there are 75 million Nigerians living in the North and 65 million in the South. This is balderdash! As long as we continue to accept such blatant lie, there can be no true democracy in Nigeria. Electoral results must continue to be falsified to conform to it. As long as we continue to entertain such outright falsehood, we shall continue to be subjected to a “born to rule” mentality on the part of some mischievous Northern politicians. The assertion that there are more people in the North than in the South is an insult to intelligence and commonsense. All over West Africa, the coastal states are more densely and highly populated than the arid desert hinterlands. Nobody has been able to come up with a reasonable reason why Nigeria would be the only exception to this rule. Most of the people in Egypt live on a strip along the Nile River. But in Nigeria, we are meant to believe most of the people live in the desert. Some make the case that Northern polygamy leads to more births. If so, why are there only 30 million people in Saudi Arabia, a country more than twice the size of Nigeria? The Saudis are also polygamous. If there are so many more live- births in the North than in the South, this should be reflected in children immunization programs: but it is not. Everything we know about demographics contradicts the inflated population of the North relative to the South. The economic opportunities in the South far outweigh those in the North. That means economic migration is bound to be southward and not northward. The states with the highest internally generated revenues all come from the South; while eight of the last ten are from the North. No Northern state features in the top ten. Mythical Kano The North regularly trots up Kano as the largest state of the federation, but there is no doubt that this is also pure fiction. There is no way that there can be more people in Kano State than in Lagos State or even Oyo State. Let me be even more categorical. Kano cannot be as populous as Ibadan. Kano cannot even have half the population of Lagos. We were told Kano State was bigger in population than Lagos State. Then Jigawa State was carved out of Kano in 1991. But lo and behold, the remaining rump of Kano was still bigger than Lagos. In 1991, we were told there were 5.8 million people in Kano State, while 5.7 million were in Lagos. In 2006, Kano was awarded a population of 9.4 million; more than Lagos which was given 9.1 million. In the meantime, Jigawa was awarded 4.3 million people in 2006. If this were to be believed, it would mean Kano (including Jigawa) had outpaced Lagos by more than four million people by 2006. That is impossible. Moreover, Kano was awarded 44 local government areas; Jigawa 27 and Lagos only 20. Why any right-thinking person would believe Kano State has more people than Lagos State is beyond me. For years, the total amount of internally generated revenue in Kano was less than 6 billion naira a year. In the last year or so, it is now averaging 20 billion. But get this: the internally generated revenue in Lagos is 219 billion naira. So why would people be moving to Kano instead of Lagos? Where are the jobs in Kano to attract them relative to Lagos? Why would more people keep moving to Kano where there is insurgency; from Maitasine to Boko Haram, relative to Lagos where there is none? The answer is simple. The large population of Kano relative to Lagos is bogus. It is pure fiction! If there were more people in Kano than in Lagos, it would show up, for example, in waste- generation. How much waste does Kano produce relative to Lagos? The answer is only a fraction. How many houses and physical structures are there in Kano relative to Lagos? There is no comparison. Google satellite maps show a concentration of people and houses in Kano city centre. Everywhere else is sparsely populated. This is not the case with Lagos. It is not the case with Ibadan. It is not the case with Aba. If there are so many people up North, where are the people? Where do they live? Which vehicles take them from A to B? How many of these vehicles are in Kano relative to Lagos? Only a fraction! Magical Zamfara Precisely because we have accepted the lie of Northern population supremacy over the South, Attahiru Jega and his INEC cohorts decided to sneak further falsehood past us. Having discovered far more double-registration of voters in the North than in the South, INEC still went ahead to create additional polling units, allocating a disproportionate number of these to the North. However, the very audacity of INEC in the attempted perpetration of this fraud has brought to light certain anomalies in the 2011 elections, especially as it relates to the North-West. INEC’s recent cleanup exercise of the voters register is a big indictment of the North. INEC discovered that there are far more double- registration of voters in the North than in the South. The greatest fraud in this regard is committed in the North-West, and the most fraudulent state in the country turns out to be Zamfara. Sokoto and Zamfara states border the Republic of Niger. Niger Republic is 19 times bigger than Sokoto and Zamfara put together in land area. And yet, we are meant to believe that in 2006, Sokoto and Zamfara had a combined total population of 6.9 million; more than half of Niger Republic’s population of 12.9 million. Zamfara’s fictitious population in the 2006 census was 3.2 million. Nevertheless, INEC registered 2 million voters for Zamfara for the 2011 elections. That means 62.5% of the people in Zamfara registered to vote. (This is roughly equal to the 64% of people who registered to vote in the 2012 elections in the United States; a country of far higher voter-awareness and socialisation). This is fraud of the highest order for the simple reason that 62.5% of the population of Zamfara cannot be eligible to vote. The voting age in Nigeria is 18 years. According to U.N. demographics, 44% of Nigerians are below the age of 15. This means under no circumstances can 50% of the population anywhere in Nigeria be said to have registered to vote in any election. It is not surprising therefore that although INEC registered 2 million voters for the 2011 elections in Zamfara, the same INEC discovered in its clean-up exercise this year that 1.1 million of those voters (over 50%) were fraudulent; the result of double registration. Voodoo results That means only 914,886 of the names on the Zamfara register could be verified as not pertaining to double registration. (This does not tell us how many of the remaining names are fictitious). But then get this: according to INEC records, 927,219 people voted in Zamfara in the 2011 presidential election; mostly for Buhari. That means more votes were cast in Zamfara than the total number of legitimately-registered voters, according to the revelation of INEC’s clean-up exercise. Let us put this in stark terms. It means, according to INEC, over 100% of the Zamfara electorate voted in 2011. What malarkey! By the time we factor in the fictitious names that must have been in the register, we can see that the figures coming out of Zamfara have nothing whatsoever to do with reality. In Zamfara, there is procedural inflation of figures pertaining to population and elections. This gives us an idea of how fraudulent the North-West of Nigeria is with regard to population and electoral figures. This is not to say that manipulation and falsification of figures is not standard operational procedure in other states of the federation, but INEC revealed that it is most exaggerated in the North in general and in the North-West in particular. It is not surprising therefore that, in the 2011 presidential election, there were 10.6 million “voters” from the North-West alone; twice the number of voters from either the South-West (4.6 million) or the South-East (5 million). This is preposterous, and is nothing but one big lie! Link**** http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/09/believes-lie-people-north-south/ |
A huge haze seems to be hanging over the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) governorship candidate in Abia State , ahead of the general elections . It was learnt yesterday that there were issues surrounding Dr . Okezie Ikpeazu ’ s candidature. Ikpeazu ’ s form C 0028, according to findings, was already with the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) . This is contrary to information available to The Nation that the Form C 002 B , as it relates to Abia State , was withdrawn by the PDP national leadership, following questions about Ikpeazu , thereby casting doubt on the authenticity of the signature on the form Ikpeazu submitted to INEC . Form CF 002 B is the INEC approved document with which chairmen and secretaries of parties can submit the names of their parties ’ candidates for the governorship election . According to a copy of the Form C 002 B made available to The Nation yesterday in Abuja, only the signature of the PDP national chairman, alleged to have been forged, was appended . That of the PDP national secretary was not appended. It has raised questions in some quarters on how the document made it to INEC without the PDP national secretary ’ s endorsement. Our findings showed that the national leadership of the party had dropped Ikpeazu ’ s name . Although the party did not name any replacement , The Nation learnt that it rather asked that stakeholders should meet the governorship aspirants and Governor Theodore Orji to seek a credible replacement . The meeting is yet to hold. A source at the commission told The Nation that “it was possible the document did not pass through the right channel before finding its way to INEC .” Fingers are being pointed at a senior worker of the commission from Abia State in the alleged “smuggling in” of the Form C 002 B , as the PDP national chairman was said to be out of the country when the form was signed and submitted. EMAIL In this piece posted on Daily Post, Bayelsa- born Kali Gwegwe criticizes the political activities of the Vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo I have deep respect for pastors not necessarily because I am a Christian. I do so because they are Messengers of God. Nevertheless, truth is just. Truth is correctional. It does not cover up errors or weaknesses. These are the fundamental basis for this piece. It has no political undertone. Following his nomination as the running mate to General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential flag bearer of APC in the February 14 polls; Pastor Yemi Osibanjo has been seen riding in public buses and having two-way engagements with the downtrodden. This is traditionally what is expected of Servant Pastor Yemi Osibanjo is probably among the legion of Christian leaders that criticize Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) for screening his works of charity on Emmanuel TV. They have deliberately refused to acknowledge the fact that T.B. Joshua is simply following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ to show love and compassion for the less privileged. It is owing to his deep understanding of Scriptures that the General Overseer of SCOAN caters for the poor, weak, sick, neglected, rejected, and vulnerable in society. It was therefore curious that Pastor Yemi Osibanjo suddenly realized the important position the downtrodden occupy in society and in the heart of God. In all his years as pastor, Yemi Osibanjo has never been highlighted in the media preaching the Gospel in public buses or taking the message of salvation to personally and directly to the downtrodden. Only God knows how many souls he would have won for Christ if he done so. Many Christians were therefore shocked that he could do the unusual because of political power. My worry is this: Pastor Yemi Osibanjo has sent out a wrong message to the larger society. He has indeed succeeded in making people believe that POLITICS- NOT CHRISTIANITY CAN HELP BRING OUT THE BEST IN MEN. It is sad that desire for political power is what is making him to do what he could not do as a pastor. This is not good for the Christian faith. This piece does not seek to crucify Pastor Yemi Osibanjo. Rather, it is a challenge to all Christians to live up to their callings. Christianity is the pillar of hope for the hopeless, shelter for the vulnerable, and balm for the wounded. Christianity has no season. I just hope that Pastor Yemi Osibanjo will never stop riding in public buses and spending quality time with the downtrodden whether he wins or loses in the February 14, 2015 polls. For those who will rush to accuse me of judging Pastor Yemi Osibanjo, I have a question for them: Is it right for us to holdour leaders accountable for their actions? Pastor Yemi Osibanjo is a Christian leader. What I have done is holding him responsible for his actions. More than that, it is written in Proverbs 27:17 that “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Like any other person, Pastor Yemi Osibanjo is my friend. Gwegew’s criticisms are a bit out of place as he would rather attack the personality of the professor rather than stick to issue. link***** www.naij.com/352083-is-osinbanjo-embarrassing-christians-with-his-conduct.html |
Six people have reportedly died in Fika, Yobe state after an explosion occurred close to a security checkpoint. The Yobe State Police Commissioner, Marcus Danladi, told PREMIUM TIMES the explosive device that went off was being conveyed in a car to an unknown location when it suddenly exploded. According to Danladi, the car exploded shortly after it drove past a checkpoint. An officer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Maiduwa Town, who pleaded anonymity told Channels Television that the bomber boarded a commercial Volkswagen Golf Car with the explosive devices from Fika Town heading to Potiskum, the commercial nerve center of the state. Yobe is in the troubled north-east zone of Nigeria “The people carrying the bomb inside a vehicle were the people who died,” the police commissioner said. “They came from one of the villages where the insurgents are hiding and the same people carrying the bomb were the same people who died. “Yobe is calm. There is no problem.” |
ABUJA – Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force, NDPSF, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo- Asari has again stated that desperate politicians from the northern Nigeria are ungrateful parasites who have not appreciated the south and especially the Niger-Delta for depending on their oil proceeds over the years. Asari’s outburst was a reaction to the comments recently made by the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido that staunch supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan such as Asari and Chief Edwin Clarke were making incisive statements in their bid to secure a second term for Jonathan. Lamido had in his statements decried the candidacies of Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and General Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives congress, APC. He was quoted as saying that the duo were capable of setting Nigeria ablaze with their ambition. Dokubo-Asari But reacting to the statement, Asari who was also the former national President of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC and Jonathan’s kinsman in a telephone chat with Vanguard said that the north was bleeding over their loss of political power. He stated that until the zone disabuse its mind from the mentality of “born to rule”, they would continue to meet stiff resistance from their southern counter-part. “The president will win. There is no other option. If they contest they are wasting their time. He who pays the piper will dictate the tune. We own them. We are feeding them. They are parasites. A beggar has no choice. In all religions, in Islam, every where… if you are a beggar, you will respect the one who gives to you. They are beggars and parasites.” |
