The Uyo Meyo crooner was performing when gunshots were fired at the venue.

A video which, surfaced online in the early hours of Monday, showed where Teni was performing one of her singles, ‘Power Rangers’ at the concert.

But amid the performance, gunshots were heard.

Despite the rising cost of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), a non-governmental organisation, the Noble Delta Women for Peace and Development International (NDWPD) has insisted that using fire wood for cooking was not an alternative.

NDWPD said gas remains the cleanest and safest means of cooking, particularly as the health implications of using firewood are enormous.

Executive Director of NDWPD, Caroline Usikpedo-Oliseowe, told journalists in Asaba, Delta State, that rising cost of gas was a key governance issue that should be addressed by the Federal Government.

Oliseowe was speaking at a press conference on forest conservative and gender with the theme: Impact of Women’s Participation in Community Forest Governance.

Striker Victor Osimhen has tested positive for coronavirus.

His club made this known on Thursday – 10 days to the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The club said, “Napoli has announced that Victor Osimhen has tested positive for Covid-19 but is asymptomatic. Dr. Tartaro was due to perform a check-up on the player tomorrow.

“Consequently, the local authorities have ordered that Osimhen self-isolate and the check-up will be rescheduled after he has tested negative and his period of isolation ends.”

Nigeria had selected Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is still recovering from a serious injury, as part of its 28-man squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Popular businessman, Obinna Iyeagbu fondly known as Obi Cubana, has built an Anglican church in his hometown, Oba, in Anambra State.

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has approved a line of credit of €70 million and an equity investment of $24 million, to be granted to the West African Development Bank.

The line of credit will support businesses in the West African Economic and Monetary Union, particularly in job-creating sectors such as agribusiness, renewable energy, health, and information and telecommunication, which were drastically affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The €70 million forms part of a €150 million facility, which will be co-financed by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (€60 million) and FINDEV (€20 million). The $24 million equity investment is part of a capital increase transaction, which will allow the African Development Bank to increase its shareholding from 0.55 per cent to 1 per cent, and therefore retain its seat on the Board of Directors of the West African Development Bank.

In addition, the African Development Bank will assist the West African Development Bank, through funding from the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) to set up a technical assistance programme to mainstream gender aspects in its project review process and to promote women’s entrepreneurship. The project should help to create or consolidate at least 5,900 jobs (including 2,000 for women).

Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a staff of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki and a principal Nurse, at the hospital’s Annex at Nwezenyi, in the Izzi Local Government Area of the state, over child trafficking.

The Command’s Spokesperson, Mrs Loveth Odah, who disclosed this in a statement, on Tuesday,December 14, in Abakaliki, said the Command also recovered two babies, male and female between the ages of three days and two weeks.

She identified the suspects as Ndidiamaka Enyinta Emeka, Chinenye Idam and Maryjane Inya.

She said the suspects were arrested on Friday, December 10, following a report to the Divisional Police Officer by a concerned citizen of the area who alleged that one of the suspects, Maryjane was seen with two newborn babies suspected to have been stolen.

The National Security Adviser (NSA) says “no gun is more powerful than enlightenment and education in tackling terrorism and violent activities by militant Islamist groups in the Sahel.

Retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno said this at the ongoing “14th Workshop of the League of Ulamas, Preachers and Imams of Sahel Countries’’ in Abuja.

He said that terrorism and the rapid escalation of violent activities by militant Islamist groups in the Sahel since 2016 had been primarily driven by the Islamic State in Greater Sahara (ISGS).

He said the groups had also extended their activities to Niger Republic and Burkina Faso.

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti revealed Victor Osimhen made the decision to return to training ahead of schedule.

Osimhen, 22, sustained fractures to his cheekbone and eye socket during Napoli’s 3-2 defeat to Inter Milan last month.

Osimhen was operated by on doctor Gianpaolo Tartaro, and was expected to be sideline for three months, but the striker returned to training on Wednesday, December 8.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), has reiterated the commitment of the Agency to increase the risk burden of trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances in Nigeria.

Marwa gave the assurance on Wednesday, December 8, during the handing over ceremony of a provisional detention facility equipped by the UK Border Force to the NDLEA.

A statement by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said that Gen Marwa, who was represented at the occasion by the Agency Secretary, Mr Shadrach Haruna, noted that the drug war is daily receiving a boost especially with the recent launch of the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP 2021-2025), which was funded by the European Union under the supervision of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

According to him, “the resources committed to the project clearly demonstrates the commitment of the United Kingdom to fostering international cooperation to fight the enduring problem of drug trafficking in Nigeria”. He thanked the UK Border Force for the facility and promised that the Agency will make judicious use of it.

Troops of Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have neutralized three Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists.

The terrorists were neutralized after troops staged an ambush at one of the terrorists’ notorious crossing points along the Kwadal-Agapalwa-Amuda axis.

Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said troops recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), three Hand Grenades, 62 links of 7.62mm ammunition, one Motorcycle and three Bicycles from the terrorists.

The statement read, “The troops, who were on a Long-range fighting Patrol towards Agapalwa and Amuda villages, got wind of the rampaging activities of the terrorists and laid in wait for them at the crossing point.

The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says that the presentation of the coronavirus vaccination card is now compulsory for attendees of social gatherings in the state.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said this on Tuesday, December 7, on the update of the management of Coronavirus in the state.

He said that as a measure of curbing the spread of the disease, every attendee of a social gathering MUST present their vaccination cards or digital bar code page showing at least first dose but preferably double dose full vaccination.

According to him, in unvaccinated people, a negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) within 72 hours will be an exemption.

“All social events must be duly registered to obtain Event Safety Clearance from the Lagos State Safety Commission website: www.lasgsafetyreg.com prior to holding; and the guidelines set out below must be strictly adhered to.

Nigeria’s electricity sector is ranked 21st out of 43 African countries, according to the African Development Bank’s 2021 Electricity Regulatory Index.

In 2020, Nigeria was ranked 8th out of 36 African countries, which shows that Nigeria has dropped significantly unlike Uganda that has maintained the first position for four years.

The 2021 Electricity Regulatory Index report covered 43 countries, up from 36 in the previous edition. This report assessed the countries’ impact on the performance of their electricity sectors.

It covered three countries in the North Africa region, 14 in West Africa, six in Central Africa, seven in East Africa, and 13 in the Southern Africa region. Aside from Uganda, the strong performers included Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia and Egypt.

The National Population Commission, says no fewer than 127,305 childbirths were registered and issued with a birth certificate from January to November 2021 in Gombe state.

Speaking in Gombe on Tuesday,December 7, 2021 Adedeji Adeniyi, the Head of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics of the NPC noted that there is a chunk of children not registered without a birth certificate in the country.

Adeniyi said, “It is not enough for any parent to bring a child into the world and not register that child. To you, he or she is existing, but is he or she existing to the government? no.

“Whenever you give birth to a child take the next step after the christening to obtain a birth certificate.

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh has dared her colleague, Halima Abubakar, to release names of bullies in the Nigerian movie industry.

Global food commodity prices rose for the fourth consecutive month in November, reaching their highest level since June 2011, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) has said.

The rise was led by strong demand for wheat and dairy products, according to details highlighted in the FAO Food Price Index report released on Thursday, Decemeber 2.

The index tracks the international prices of the most commonly traded food commodities.

The FAO Food Price Index averaged 134.4 points in November 2021, up 1.2 per cent from October and 27.3 per cent from November 2020.

“The latest increase marked the fourth consecutive monthly rise in the value of the FAO Food Price Index, putting the index at its highest level since June 2011.

Nigerian authorities are failing children as at least 61 children in northern Nigeria remain in captivity, months after their abduction during mass attacks on schools which also terminated the education of thousands of children while putting children in captivity through horrific and degrading treatment in the hands of bandits, Amnesty International Nigeria said on Thursday, December 2.

Children in orphanages, schools and places of worship are often abducted and held in captivity for weeks, sometimes months depending on when or if the demands of their abductors are met. Children in school buses or walking to schools are also sometimes ambushed and abducted for ransom.

“No child should go through what children are going through now in Nigeria. Education should not be a matter of life and death for anyone. Nigeria is failing children once again in a horrifying manner,” says Osai Ojigho, Director of Amnesty International Nigeria.

School children in some parts of northern Nigeria are constantly at risk of death or abduction. More than 780 children have been abducted for ransom since February 2021 during mass attacks on schools or religious institutions, with some of the children killed during the attacks. Parents of the abducted children or the school authorities are sometimes made to provide food and clothing for the children while in captivity,” says Osai Ojigho.
