Ignore Interlopers On Tenure Extension InOsun Public Service, Group Counsels State Assembly

A socio-political group, Osun Democrats for Democracy has called on the State Assembly to ignore a petition against the extension of tenure of two exceptional public officers, describing the group as “interlopers” and “hired mercenaries” questioning the constitutional authority of the State Governor.

In a release, in response to the petition by a moribund group which has lost values of its foundation fathers, the group called the attention of the desperate hatchet workers to the powers conferred on the Governor with respect to hiring of senior public servants.

"We are compelled to ask whether the civil service rules override or is superior to the constitution of Nigeria? In any case, what is the business of the CSO in a matter where the constitution gives the Governor power to exercise?

"As the Executive Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke worked closely with his Head of Service to effect the reform of the public service which was bastardised by the previous government. New permanent secretaries were appointed and the reform process is still ongoing.

"Similarly, the Governor is effecting public sector financial reform in close coordination with the Office of the Accountant General of the state and the State Ministry of Finance. Both reforms are yielding positive reforms.

"The Governor within his powers beleives the reform must be consolidated and he granted these two officials more time to conclude the reform and effect an institutionalised committment to professonalism in the public service. This is within his powers as guarranted by the Constitution which overrides any state or service regulations

"And we must add that this is not the first time such extension will be granted. Is this the first time it is being done? In administration, there is what we call precedent. Many precedents exist even in Osun state.

The group noyed that the CSO was silent when former Governor Gboyega Oyetola extended the tenure of the former Head of service, saying the Governor has not in any way violated any law as he only acted as conferred on him by the constitution, the supreme guidance of the nation.

"We therefore urged the House of Assembly to throw the petition into the thrash bin where it belongs. The Assembly knows the Governor so well and we know the lawmakers understands that the CSO in question is an agent of the opposition.

Politics / Eluku Omo Adugbo Reacts As Kwara Electoral Commission Takes Proactive Steps by Jimsonjaat96(m): 9:21pm On Mar 05
The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) has announced its plans to embark on sensitization tours across the sixteen local government areas of the state, commencing this week. This initiative aims to engage various stakeholders in town hall meetings, consultations, and different sensitization programs.

Recall the chairman of the Commission, Okanla Baba, stated in a release over the weekend that the tours are designed to foster dialogue and understanding among the populace regarding the forthcoming local government elections. The commission intends to involve residents, community leaders, political parties, and other relevant stakeholders in the process.

This announcement comes on the heels of growing anticipation for the restoration of democratically elected council leaders in Kwara State.

Notably, Comrade Salahudeen A Lukman Eluku Omo Adugbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for Ojomu Balogun Constituency in the 2023 general election in Kwara State, commended Governor AbdulRasak Abdulrahman for his positive response to public opinion.

In his statement released on Tuesday, March 5, Comr Salahudeen emphasized the importance of timely electoral processes and the need for genuine democratic practices. He praised the government's decision to initiate the sensitization tours and urged authorities to ensure the fulfillment of promises made to the public.

He said the upcoming tours signify a proactive approach by KWSIEC to engage the citizenry and build consensus ahead of the local government elections. With heightened expectations for transparent and credible electoral processes, stakeholders anticipate meaningful participation and accountability in the governance of local communities.

HIS FULL STATEMENT IS REPRODUCED BELOW

Kwara Local Government Tour: It's better late than never.

Thank you, Gov. AbdulRasak Abdulrahman, for the prompt and positive response to popular opinion for the first time.

As a progressive-minded Kwaran and an unapologetic Democrat and member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, it's duty-bound to commend His Excellency Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasak for his perceptive change of attitude and partial expression of readiness to give Kwara people democratically elected council leaders after over half a decade of illegal imposition of Transition Implementation Committee on Kwarans across the 16 LGs.

We have watched the Abdulrahman-led administration manipulate our local government system, including an unpatriotic, selfish, and politically mischievous amendment of the local Government election law by the state assembly, extending a process that ought to be three months to twelve months.

This singular political miscarriage acts as a peg, branding Kwara state as the only state with such an aberration called the new LG amended act.

While it took years to appoint KWSIEC, it took years to conclude the fraudulent amendment; it's as if it will also take another year to commence the election process by KWSIEC, who promised to commence activities by February 2024 immediately after the signing into law the amendment but failed.

Just to keep the government on their toes, I made a statement on 1st March 2024, reminding the KWSIEC and Gov Abdulrahman of another promised canceled, and to the glory of God, the KWSIEC announced the commencement of activities starting with LG sensitization tours by this month.

As a young concerned Kwara with an open mind, I deem it necessary to appreciate Gov Abdulrahman Abdulrasak and KWSIEC for this timely response to citizens' demand.

The effects of having elected local government councils can't be overemphasized. Apart from giving relief to the state government, it will help in the implementation of programs and policies in a coordinated manner, with an increase in FAAC sharing to state and LG. The best time to ensure functional LG is now, by any responsible government that has people at heart.

This positive response to outcry will earn the government citizen confidence, including opposition figures. It will motivate us to unveil ideas and recommendations through reactions to development once we are certain of a positive response and objective view from the government cycle.

Once again, I commend Mr. Governor and KWSIEC for this prompt response while urging them to ensure it comes to reality as announced this time, not an audio promise or plan like we used to have in the past.

Indeed, it's better late than never; prompt and positive response is a good omen.

Politics / Sheba Abayomi And His Shameful Pact With Utter Disgrace by Jimsonjaat96(m): 9:25pm On Mar 04
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee will be meeting with key stakeholders of the Party from Ondo State tomorrow, 5th of March, in Abuja. This meeting is aimed at setting in motion plans to take over Ondo State and rescue it from the hands of these looters and plunderers currently at the helm. The meeting must, however, be strongly warned about the evil inherent in Eddy Olafeso and his minions.

The path to ultimate victory for the Party in Ondo State is largely dependent on picking the right candidate and knowing how to deal with cankerworms. The pains of the injury from the last general election is still very fresh in the mind of Party faithfuls who toiled day and night to ensure that we taste victory again but was snatched from us by sore losers and decrepit politicians.

Surely, we can forgive, but how do we forget that after losing a free and fair Primary, Hon. Sheba Abayomi ensured the Party lost his unit, ward, and LG to the APC just to spite the Party. I used Sheba Abayomi because he's the one now being projected by the Eddy Olafeso camp. Eddy himself went AWOL on the field despite being the Liaison Officer of the Presidential Campaign Council in the South West. I dare him to present his Unit and Ward results. We were working tirelessly day and night, hoping he would come and complement our efforts in his Okitipupa 2 State Constituency, but he was busy negotiating with the APC on how to make our spirited efforts futile.

Most painful was how one of their top echelons, Sen. Tofowomo dragged His Excellency, Agboola Ajayi, to the Supreme Court, thereby distracting and consuming hundreds of millions of campaign funds. An act that engineered a landslide victory for the APC. This same set of people want to now nominate a Governor for the whole state!

To be forewarned is forearmed. The Party should deal with Eddy Olafeso and his minions at arms length. They are businessmen. Ondo State people know them and would discard them at the polls. We can't afford those who want to live a luxurious lifestyle without a known source of income, unfortunately aside politics, decide our future because God miraculously gave them an office in the past. May it not arise again!

Politics / High Chief Yunus Bukoye: Tribute To The Legendary Essa Of Offa At 80 by Jimsonjaat96(m): 1:59pm On Mar 03
By Abdulfatai Tomori

The Yoruba culture is known for its rich heritage of traditions and customs that shape the way of life for its people. One such tradition is the celebration of attaining a ripe age, such as 80, with great honour and reverence. This is considered a monumental achievement, especially in a country where life expectancy is only 63 years. Both Forbes (2019) and the Global Peace Index (2023) have listed Nigeria as one of the top 20 Most Dangerous Countries in the World. Therefore, it is a significant accomplishment to attain the nonagenarian grade in such a country. High Chief (Dr) Yunus Oyewale Bukoye, the Eesa of Offa Kingdom, is one of the few lucky ones to achieve this remarkable milestone, and it is a momentous occasion that deserves recognition. High Chief Yunus Bukoye is a traditional high chief who has dedicated his life to serving his people while upholding cultural values and customs. He is an exceptional individual with a remarkable life story that is worth exploring.

Chief Yunus Bukoye was born on March 1, 1944, a year prior to the conclusion of World War II. This period marked a momentous time for Nigeria as its military regiment had just returned from their engagement abroad, signifying the end of one of history's deadliest wars. Growing up in Nigeria, Chief Yunus Bukoye bore witness to some of the country's most significant events. He experienced first-hand the constitutional processes that led to Nigeria's independence and the subsequent formation of political parties leading up to and after independence. He also lived through the civil war, and military rule, and ultimately witnessed Nigeria's return to democracy among other notable historical moments. In his personal life, Chief Yunus Bukoye has achieved great success in various fields including administration, business and education despite facing numerous challenges along his journey. His commitment towards social development is unwavering and his contributions have been immeasurable not only within Offa or Ibolo but throughout Kwara State and beyond.

Chief Bukoye began his professional journey at the defunct National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA) in Minna, Niger State, after completing his education. He displayed an exceptional level of professionalism and hard work during his tenure at NEPA. His outstanding performance and dedication to his work earned him a higher employment opportunity at the largest and most extensive university in sub-Saharan Africa, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria. At ABU, Chief Bukoye served as the Chief Bursar at the defunct School of General and Remedial Studies (SGRS) before eventually rising to become the Chief Accountant of the university. He played a vital role in the university's financial management, ensuring that the institution's finances were handled with integrity and transparency.

During his stay at ABU Zaria, Chief Bukoye went above and beyond his responsibilities to assist many Offa and Kwara state indigenes in obtaining admission to the university. Chief Bukoye provided these students with accommodation in his own house and personally mentored and guided them throughout their academic journey until they graduated. His kindness, generosity, and selfless service have touched the lives of many students, and he became a father figure to many of them. His commitment to helping others has earned him numerous accolades and recognition across the academic community and beyond during this period.

After a long and successful career at ABU Zaria, Chief Bukoye was appointed as the Essa of Offa in 1999 by the highly respected and revered monarch, Oba Mustafa Oláwóore Olanipekun Ariwajoye II. Although his appointment as Essa of Offa was hereditary, Chief Bukoye's immense contributions to humanity and his unwavering commitment to community service also contributed to his selection as the successor to the prestigious Essa's stool.

The position of Essa in Offa holds a special place of honour in the community as one of the five traditional ward heads, and it is considered very significant. The Olofa of Offa, Oba Olugbense, who ruled for 60 years from 1726 to 1786, created the Essa chieftaincy title along with other chieftaincy titles to assist him in his duties. Idowu Atagisoro, a wealthy firewood merchant from the Arogun compound in Offa, was the first person to receive the Eesa title. Essa Atagisoro earned this position probably because of his marriage to Princess Oluwe, one of the daughters of Oba Olugbense. However, they were unable to have children. After the death of Eesa Idowu Atagisoro and the inability of Princess Oluwe to bear a son, Oba Olugbense decided to invite Prince Ajibola Igbaroola, a Prince from Igbaye, whom he had earlier promised the position, to become the new Eesa of Offa in 1747.

According to reports, Oba Olugbense had promised Princess Oyeronke, his other daughter who married an Igbaye King, that her son, Prince Ajibola Igbaroola, would become the next Essa of Offa and second-in-command to him, the Olofa. This was during a time when Princess Oyeronke was having a conflict with the royal family of Igbaye after the death of her husband, the king of Igbaye. She wanted her son, Prince Ajibola, to succeed his father as the next king. However, the Igbaye kingmakers preferred another prince, who was said to be older than Prince Ajibola and from a different mother, to assume the Onigbaye's throne at the time. Essa Ajibola was subsequently made the custodian of the Essa ward and second-in-command to the Olofa of Offa, a better position for him than being made Onigbaye. He also served as one of the kingmakers in Offa. Since then, the title holder for Essa has automatically become head of Essa ward, second-in-command to the Olofa, an Offa kingmaker. Apart from Essa ward, there are four other traditional wards in Offa: namely, Ojomu, Balogun, Shawo and Asalofa; each led by a High Chief who oversees their area's development and welfare.

Essa Ajibola held the title for nearly a century, spanning from 1747 to 1845. His descendants have since taken up this mantle and continued to make remarkable contributions towards the growth and development of Offa's community. Ijaoye succeeded Essa Ajibola in 1845 and maintained this position until he died in 1868 when he was succeeded by Essa Isioluda, who held the position until 1888.

During Isioluda's tenure as Eesa, Offa saw great resistance against the Ilorin Fulani invasion - an event that attested greatly to their strength as a people. After the death of Essa Isioluda, Essa Olajode became the new Essa and held the title from 1888 to 1926. During the time of Essa Olajode, the First Class status given to Olofa under the Native Authority System of government was taken away. This was because it was erroneously believed that the First Class Staff of Office given to Oba Ariwajoye I was a mistake and that under the Native Authority System of administration, there could only be one Emir (or first class Oba) in each province.

Essa Onifade succeeded Essa Olajode in 1926 and held the title until 1936, spending 10 years in the seat. During the reign of Essa Onifade, both the Olofa Palace and Central Mosque were changed from thatched roofs to corrugated iron sheets.

After the death of Essa Onifade, Essa Olabooye I became the seventh Essa of Offa and reigned between 1937 and 1947. He was succeeded by Essa Kelani Oyeleke I from 1949 to 1971, it was during Essa Oyeleke I's reign that Nigeria experienced the civil war, also known as the Biafran War. There was an army barracks in Offa during this period. Essa Oyeleke I also witnessed the selection of Oba Mustafa Olanipekun Ariwajoye II in 1970. Essa Busari Oyewale succeeded Essa Oyeleke I after he died in 1971. Essa Busari also passed away in 1980 after spending nine years on the seat. Essa Busari Oyewale was succeeded by Essa Kola Olabooye II in 1980.

During this time, Olofa's first-class position was restored to him by the first civilian governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Adamu Attah, in 1982. Interestingly, the reigning Olofa at the time was Oba Mustafa Oláwóore Olanipekun, who happened to be the grandson of Oba Ariwajoye I. It was during Oba Ariwajoye I's reign that the staff of office was withdrawn from the Olofa.

High Chief Jimoh Kola Olabooye, during this period, played a pivotal role in the establishment of Moremi Girls High School in 1981/82. Of course, Essa Kola Olabooye II was the uncle of one of Offa's prominent sons, Otunba Olayemi Olabooye (ITAFA). Otunba Olayemi Olabooye presently serves as the Special Adviser on Administration to Dist. Senator Lola Ashiru, the Deputy Senate Majority Leader, and the Senator representing Kwara South in the Nigerian Senate. Essa Olabooye II held the Essa title until he died in 1992. High Chief Muhammad Oyeleke, the father of former Offa Local Government Chairman and Majority Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly in the 9th Assembly, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, also known as Bibire, took over as the 10th Essa of Offa. He held the title until he died in 1999 when Chief (Dr.) Bukoye became the 11th Essa of Offa, continuing the legacy of his predecessors in leading the community towards progress and prosperity.

Since his assumption as Essa of Offa, Chief Bukoye has been carrying out his responsibilities with utmost sincerity and dedication, providing guidance and support to the people of the Essa Ward and contributing significantly to the growth and development of the Offa community. But that's not all! Chief Bukoye is also a successful entrepreneur who has created several thriving business ventures, providing employment opportunities for many. He is a passionate advocate for quality education in Nigeria, and his response to the falling standards in the sector led him to establish the BUKs International School. This educational institution has a strong emphasis on unmatched academic excellence and towering moral values, and it has become a leading educational institution not only in Offa but also in Nigeria. Chief Yunus Bukoye's legacy will undoubtedly inspire future generations to embrace their heritage and work towards a brighter future for everyone. He has also supported numerous charitable causes, including providing scholarships to underprivileged children. His contributions are a lifetime legacy that will outlive him, and he is truly a remarkable icon worthy of commendation. His tireless efforts to preserve our cultural heritage have made him a beloved figure in our community.

As Chief Yunus Bukoye celebrates his 80th birthday, it is a time to recognise and commemorate his many noteworthy accomplishments and the lasting legacy he has created. Chief Bukoye is widely regarded as a humanitarian due to his exceptional efforts to improve the lives of people around him. He is a remarkable leader who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in guiding the Offa community through various challenges. His leadership has been greatly aided by the able and capable Kabiyesi Olofa of Offa, HRH Alhaji Oba Mufutau Asunmo-Okin Okikiola Gbadamosi Ajagungbade I Esuwoye II, who has provided him with a wealth of knowledge, guidance, and assistance. Under his leadership, the Essa ward and indeed Offa community has achieved remarkable progress in various areas, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social services.

This has earned him the admiration and respect of his people, who hold him in high esteem.

Chief Yunus Bukoye is not only a successful leader but a goal-oriented person who relentlessly pursues and achieves his objectives with passion and determination. He is a mentor who has inspired many people to reach their full potential, and he sets an exemplary standard for others to follow. Apart from his many accomplishments, Chief Bukoye is a devoted family man who loves and cares deeply for his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Their unwavering support has been a constant source of strength for him throughout his years of service. The people of Offa and Ibololand are fortunate to have Chief Yunus Bukoye as one of their High Chiefs in Ibololand, and they take pride in celebrating his remarkable legacy on this special occasion. They look forward to his continued leadership, guidance, and positive impact on the community and beyond for many more years to come. On this note, I want to congratulate High Chief Essa (Dr) Yunus Oyewale Bukoye and wish him many more years of health, prosperity, and success as he steers the coveted Essa seat of his forefathers. Igba odun, ọjọ kan ni, sir!

Politics / Kwara Pdp's Comrade SA Lukman Again Speaks On Delayed LG Elections by Jimsonjaat96(m): 2:30pm On Mar 01
Hon Comr. Salahudeen Lukman, popular as Eluku Omo Adugbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for Ojomu Balogun Constituency in the 2023 general election, lamented the delay in local government elections in Kwara State.

Under the headline "PROMISE MADE, PROMISE FAILED AS USUAL: IT'S MARCH FIRST AGAIN; PITY KWARANS," Hon. Eluku Omo Adugbo criticized Governor Abdulrasak AbdulRahman for not fulfilling promises made regarding the commencement of local government electoral processes.

Highlighting the dire situation facing indigenes and residents of Kwara state, Hon. Eluku-Omo Adugbo emphasized the urgent need for succor amidst a hunger crisis exacerbated by a high inflation rate and the post-subsidy era.

The statement underscored the critical role of functional local government systems in addressing development challenges and ensuring proper monitoring and coordination of government programs and policies. However, Hon. Eluku-Omo Adugbo criticized the lack of progress in this regard since Governor AbdulRahman took office.

The PDP candidate expressed disappointment over the failure to commence local government elections, despite assurances from the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) chairman. He called for an end to the reign of unelected Transition Implementation Committees (TICs) and the restoration of democratically elected local council leaders.

Warning of escalating frustration among Kwarans, Hon. Eluku-Omo Adugbo urged Governor AbdulRahman to avoid pushing citizens to the breaking point, where they may take matters into their own hands.

In conclusion, the statement reiterated the call for immediate action from the governor, stressing the need for a government that is closer to the people and responsive to their needs.

As the hunger crisis deepens and frustration mounts, all eyes remain on Governor Abdulrasak AbdulRahman to address the pressing concerns raised by Hon. Comr. Salahudeen Lukman Eluku Omo Adugbo and other stakeholders in Kwara State.

THE FULL STATEMENT IS REPRODUCED BELOW

"PROMISE MADE, PROMISE FAILED AS USUAL: IT'S MARCH FIRST AGAIN; PITY KWARANS.

It's extremely important that we call on His Excellency, The Executive Governor of our dear state, Mallam Abdulrasak AbdulRahman, to pity indigenes and residents of Kwara state across the 16 local government areas of the state at this material time.

It is incumbent on every responsible government to provide succor for the citizens as Nigeria runs into a hunger crisis occasioned by a high inflation rate amidst the naira float and post-subsidy era.

Every political expert has identified the lack of a functional Local Government system in Kwara state since the inception of Gov Abdulrasak AbdulRahman as a key factor responsible for underdevelopment, improper monitoring and coordination of state government programs and policies, deterioration, and uneven spread of human capacity and infrastructure development, among others.

Kwarans had expected the promise made by Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) chairman shortly after the passage into law by the state assembly of the amendments Bill of KWSIEC in January 2024, that Local Government electoral process would commence by February 2024, to be a true, factual statement and not deception, lies, and audio promises as usual. It is very bad to continue to deny people the opportunity to elect who will lead them at the grassroots by will.

At the moment, with improved FAAC allocation to all tiers of Government, democratically elected local councils will function properly, which shall relieve pressure on the state government. But in the usual way of the present administration, today marks 1st March 2024. No update of such as if Mr. Governor is not tired of the sole admiration style of leading Kwara despite the obvious unencouraging outcome so far.

The Government must understand that there's a limit to every frustration; testing citizens' patience this far is unfair. Upon elastic limit exceedance, breaking is inevitable; therefore, Gov Abdulrasak must avoid the point of break, where Kwarans will have to eject the illegal TIC from office by themselves, declare officially the shutdown of local government secretariats across the state.

However, before this stage, pity Kwarans, give us democratically elected local Government council leaders, enough of illegal TICs with no impact in our domain.

The hunger is biting harder; people need a government that is closer to them to solve their issues.

Until the needful is done, I shall keep calling on Your Excellency because it's your responsibility to govern us, our dear Governor.

Hon. Comr. Salahudeen Lukman Eluku-Omo Adugbo
1st March, 2024

Nairaland / General / Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye Accused of Abuse of office, Nepotism by Jimsonjaat96(m): 8:19pm On Feb 29
An advocacy organization, the Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates (COPA), has accused Major General Emmanuel Akomaye Parker Undiandeye, the Chief of Defense Intelligence (CDI), of abuse of federal character principles, nepotism, and pervasive tribalism.

This was contained in a petition letter signed by the national coordinator of the organization, Pelumi Olajengbesi, and forwarded to the Honorable Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle.

COPA is a dedicated advocacy organization committed to upholding social justice, equity, and good governance in Nigeria.

The organization, via the petition letter, argued that Major General Emmanuel Akomaye Parker Undiandeye demonstrated favoritism towards his kinsmen by appointing Navy Captain S. K. Ogogo (NN/2122) as the Director of Finance and Accounting at the Defense Intelligence Agency.

While condemning the abuse of office and federal character principles exhibited by Major General Parker, the group declared that the appointment of S.K. Ogogo starkly undermines principles of fairness and equity, especially when there are numerous qualified individuals suitable for the role.

The organization further argued that the appointment of the DFA from the same local government area as the CDI raises alarming concerns about the blatant disregard for federal character principles.

The organization, while expressing concerns over the development, stated that it is imperative that all government agencies operate with the utmost integrity and transparency in order not to undermine the efforts of the Tinubu-led administration and erode public trust.

The organization also called on the Honorable Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle, to swiftly investigate this matter and take decisive action to rectify the situation.

'Appointments within the DIA must be based on merit, competence, and strict adherence to federal character principles rather than personal or tribal affiliations. Failure to address these issues not only compromises the integrity and effectiveness of the DIA but also undermines the credibility of the Nigerian military and government institutions as a whole', the organization added.

Efforts to get in touch with Major General Parker proved abortive.
Nairaland / General / Rise Of The Phoenix: Sir Kingsley Draws A Parallel Between Failure & Victory by Jimsonjaat96(m): 7:28am On Feb 28
Rise of the Phoenix solemnly ushers Sir Kingsley into the affairs of African music with a sharp parallelism between struggles and footing drawn from the mythical creature, phoenix. The aforementioned debut extended playlist is a quadruplet of bossy rap blends accompanied by soft Afrobeats caparisons spun across some 900 seconds in time.

Sir Kingsley's Rise of the Phoenix elicits feelings of falls, the troubles of losing a loved one alongside the silver linings that always seem definite in every cloudy sky. Though patient each time he serves his rap on some befitting instrumentals, Sir Kingsley embodies a big man who has time in his care: hence, the tranquility obvious in his music.

The singer doubling as a rapper is a strength. Maybe not his most sensational identity. What stands out in his artistry is the vividness of the imagery in his lyricism. Clear Road, the opener, invites some opposition group to an outing of disdain, outlining these people's existence with the most derogatory of all sunny mental pictures. Even if this provocation seems to have been borne out of anger, Kingsley acts the boss by serving his message cold. Story exudes pity from the unexpected loss of "grandma", Addicted tries to make up for the loss with a new lady numbing the pains. When the life described in the first two tracks must have brought him extinction, Victory brought him back alive just like "the phoenix". Here, the death and rise of the Christian prophet rings a bell.

Kingsley admits to News Bulletin that the creation of this project stirred a mixed feeling in him as he was nervous about the outcome. Asked what category of artiste he is, Kingsley stressed that, "I havent really given it a thought. It has never really crossed my mind. Boxing me isn't one thing I really want as I just want to make music to whatever sound I connect with. Maybe with time, I will figure that out."

Nevertheless, Kingsley informed us that he is one of the many Nigerians living in the neighbouring Ghana and further revealed the situation that occasioned his migration to the country, "I never really planned to move to Ghana actually," he started. "It just happened. However, I have never regretted that decision," he landed.

Education / Kwasu: Nans Asg Reacts To Invasion By Efcc And Ndlea by Jimsonjaat96(m): 1:38pm On Feb 23
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), through its Assistant Secretary (ASG) at the National Headquarters, Comr. Kolawole Mayowa Sodiq, vehemently condemns the recent invasion of Kwara State University (KWASU) Malete by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Such an invasion, particularly within the academic environment, is viewed as unprofessional and has the potential to disrupt the academic activities of the studious students, especially during the ongoing examination period. NANS ASG considers this invasion unpatriotic and urges the Kwara State Government to intervene immediately to address the situation.

We understand the need for security agencies to maintain law and order and curb any illicit activities within the student population. However, we firmly advise that such interventions should be conducted with utmost professionalism, adherence to due process, and in a manner that does not disrupt the academic pursuits of the students.

NANS Assistant Secretary-General emphasizes the importance of intelligent gathering by security agencies to identify individuals with questionable characters among the student population rather than conducting random raids and invasions of hostels. We encourage security agencies to work collaboratively with student leaders in identifying and addressing any security concerns within the university environment.

We believe that a more strategic and collaborative approach between security agencies, the state government, and student leaders will yield better results in maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment. Students with questionable characters should be subject to thorough investigation following due process, and appropriate actions should be taken based on the outcomes of such investigations.

Comr. Mayowa commended the swift response of the Special Assistant on Students' Affairs to Kwara State Governor, Comr. Salami Wasiu Onidugbé (Wizkiu), the leadership of NANS Kwara JCC, and the management of Kwara State University, Malete for their collective efforts in protecting and engaging the stakeholders involved in a bid to prevent such occurrence in the future.

In conclusion, NANS ASG calls on the Kwara State Government to swiftly intervene in this matter to ensure that the rights and well-being of the students at KWASU are protected. We urge all stakeholders to prioritize the conducive academic environment needed for the students' success and growth.

Politics / Kwara: Two Lawmakers Co-sponsor Motion Against Drug Promotion On Social Media by Jimsonjaat96(m): 12:08am On Feb 21
In a bid to combat the rising tide of drug promotion and consumption among youths, the Kwara State House of Assembly has taken a decisive step towards censorship and regulation of such content on social media and traditional broadcast platforms.

Honourable Members Ogbeni Seun David Ogunniyi and Rukayat Motunrayo Shittu jointly sponsored a motion that calls for strict measures against the dissemination of content glorifying illicit drugs and substances. Representing the Ojomu/Balogun Constituency of Offa Local Government Area and the Owode/Onire Constituency of Asa Local Government Area respectively, Ogunniyi and Shittu underscored the urgent need to address the pervasive influence of drug promotion in public media.

Ogunniyi, in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, February 20, condemned the irresponsible practices prevalent among celebrities, influencers, content promoters, and media houses that indiscriminately showcase drug use. The motion aims to reform national drug laws and state drug policies to enforce stringent penalties for those violating the innocence of the youth by promoting drug use on social and traditional media platforms.

The proposed measures not only target individuals and entities openly displaying drug use but also call for concerted efforts from traditional institutions, religious leaders, corporate organizations, and citizens to raise awareness against drug and substance abuse. Specifically, the motion urges celebrities to serve as responsible role models by refraining from promoting drug use during public appearances, studio performances, and live streams.

This legislative intervention forms part of a comprehensive strategy for Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) within Kwara State. It signals the Assembly's commitment to changing the narrative surrounding drug abuse and fostering a safer environment for its citizens, particularly the youth.

As the motion progresses through the legislative process, stakeholders and the public alike anticipate its positive impact in curbing the detrimental effects of drug promotion and consumption, safeguarding the well-being and future of Kwara State's youth.

Nairaland / General / STEAM Up Kwara – Dr Adetola Ariyike Salau Advocates For Girls, Women Empowerment by Jimsonjaat96(m): 3:52pm On Feb 18
In a bid to commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Special Adviser on Education to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, Dr. Adetola Ariyike Salau, has appealed for increased empowerment of girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Ms. Salau said girls are the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers in the world, yet they face discrimination, inequality, and barriers that hinder their full potential.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed annually on February 11th to promote the full and equal access and participation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

She made this known in separate addresses during her visits to Government Secondary High School Adeta and Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, both in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

While speaking on the STEM UP KWARA project, she said, “the idea behind this is to make learning more engaging for students and start preparing them for the future.

“A lot of time, there is a disconnect between what they are learning in school and what is needed in the real world. We want to bridge that gap.

“We also want to be able to compete on a global scale, so whether they are here (in the country) or there (abroad), they will be able to compete with their global counterparts. Hence, we need to equip them with the right skills, and we will start from the classroom now. That is, by working and infusing a lot of upskills right now.

“We did the same in Lagos with different international organizations, and we are hopeful to do the same thing here (in Kwara State).

On sustainability, she disclosed that there is a dire need to partner with organizations to sponsor programs on STEM, “we did this in Lagos when we were doing the STEM UP LAGOS program, we partnered with GIZ Nigeria (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and US Consulate, and they were able to procure equipment, including robots and drones, and we were able to use those in our training for the teachers and the students.”

She emphasized the importance of promoting full and equal access to STEM education for women and girls, challenging discriminatory stereotypes, and addressing factors like gender stereotypes and math anxiety.

Dr. Salau highlighted the achievements of notable women in STEM and encouraged young girls to pursue their dreams, reminding them of their strength, intelligence, and resilience. She underscored the significance of women’s participation in science for sustainable development and called for collective efforts to unlock the full potential of science by tapping into all sources of talent.

Dr. Salau expressed gratitude to those who support and encourage girls in their educational and professional pursuits.

NYSC / Nysc Reacts to 'high Food Prices In Camp' by Jimsonjaat96(m): 10:38am On Feb 18
The attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to the publication with the above headline making the rounds on the social media.

Management wishes to state that the story is nothing but a tissue of lies, intended to cause mischief, and generate traffic to the social media handles of the purveyors.

It is very laughable, absurd and unfortunate to allege that a State Coordinator addressed Corps Members, encouraging them to leave the Orientation Camp, because of food shortage.

Indeed, one with a probing mind will know that the allegation is fallacious, as no State Coordinator of the NYSC, many of whom are of the substantive rank of Deputy Director and have put in over 25 years in Service will utter such careless, very indicting and unintelligent statement.

For the avoidance of doubt and purposes of information, NYSC Orientation Camps are operated under a framework of checks and balances, built on so many layers.

In each camp is a Resident Officer posted from the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, to assist the camp managements run a hitch-free Orientation Course. He is resident in the camp for all through the three-week duration of the programme.

Part of their mandate is to ensure that camp managements comply strictly with the laid down policies and rules concerning feeding of Corps Members, among others.

Officers of the Scheme of the directorate cadre also visit the camps on monitoring duties. They in turn play oversight functions on the Resident Officers and camp managements.

It is pertinent to state that the ultimate authority in the day-to-day running of the Scheme, the Director General, Brig Gen YD Ahmed goes round the NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide with his team, each camping season, primarily to see to the welfare of Corps Members.

It is imperative to emphasise that camp markets are highly regulated, so as to prevent exploitation of Corps Members by the operators. However, the markets are not insulated from the vagaries of inclement economic weather which is of global dimension.

It is therefore unthinkable and immoral for one to manufacture lies in order to generate traffic for pecuniary benefits, throwing caution to the winds, while mindlessly generating anxiety among the parents and relatives of Corps Members.

NYSC from the highest echelon of authority to the least runs an open door policy, and will gladly answer enquiries concerning her operations for clarification.

Management wishes to advise purveyors of falsehood to kindly refrain from the ignoble act, as their actions inflict incalculable damage to our dear country and the psyche of our people.

Nairaland / General / Tribute To An Iconic Legend Extraordinary, Chief Josiah Sunday Olawoyin by Jimsonjaat96(m): 11:45am On Feb 07
By Ajenifuja Maruf Olalekan

It was the legendary writer, William Shakespeare, who said "Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

Drawing from the inspiration above, many schools of thought will agree that our super legend, a special breed of homosapien, a superman from another planet, the first Asiwaju of Offa, Chief Josiah Sunday Olawoyin, born on 5th February, 1925, was a complete definition of greatness. An Iroko tree that made a forest was the leader of leaders with magnificent unifying force in the annals of Offa history.

Our proactive and progressive legend, the late Asiwaju of Offa, whose life, values and virtues were outstanding and strong messages to all and sundry, began his educational career in our renowned St. Mark's Primary School, Offa and later proceeded to the first Community Secondary School in the whole of Northern Region, Offa Grammar School (OGS). He crowned his prestigious education by attending Ibadan City College to read Law and graduated in 1947.

The sights and sound of the late Asiwaju during his days were not only inspirational and exceptional but also resonating the vital need of man to stand for noble courses. He was a symbolic representation and definition of struggle against institutional and individual oppression and loud ostentatious materialism at the expense of the ordinary people. He lived and gave his life to the yearnings and aspirations of Offa people in particular and yoruba race in general.

Very distinguished ladies and gentlemen, it's no doubt that our consummate and courageous elderstateman, Baba J.S. Olawoyin, was an Iconic legend with a combination of many colours and honour. The late Asiwaju, a former Director of the New Nigerian Newspapers Limited from 1968 to 1979, who was also a business man and politician, came to political limelight with his election as the Publicity Secretary of both defunct Zikist Movement in 1948 to 1949 and Middle Belt People's Party in 1953 as well as his election as a member of the Northern House of Assembly from 1956 to 1961.

The philosophy of Asiwaju on politics and policy, dignity and integrity, is incredibly amazing and worth emulating. It is a fact that actually arrested the attention and interest of the late sage, Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo in the 1953 Constitutional Conference in London when he met with Baba J.S. as he was fondly called. A situation that later earned Chief J.S. the position of the Organising Secretary of Action Group from 1954 to 1966.

During this period, it wasn't a fallacy to describe Baba J. S, the leader of the Northern opposition, as a Rock of Gibraltar giving the northern folks a political bloody nose. He was offered a Ministerial appointment by Sir. Ahmadu Bello to woo him over when
Baba J. S. became a hard nut to crack but he turned it down to demonstrate his allegiance to Chief Awolowo and the entire Yoruba race.

The Political network and net worth of Chief J.S. Olawoyin, a very loyal and staunch supporter of Chief Obafemi Awolowo both in the Action Group (AG) of the First Republic and in the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) of the Second Republic, were magnificent and largely responsible for his emergence as the Kwara State Gubernatorial Candidate of UPN in 1979 in the Second Republic.

The enduring legacies of the late Asiwaju as the first Administrative Secretary of our famous Offa Descendants' Union, O.D.U. at home and in diaspora and the General Secretary of the League of Northern Yorubas,
comprising Ibolo, Igbomina, Okun and Ekiti, are extraordinary footprints on the sand of time.

One of the jaw-dropping events that succinctly defined him as an incredibly wonderful strategist was the late Olofa's saga, Oba Wuraola Isioye in 1957 in the hand of the then Northern Region government of Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir. Ahmadu Bello. Oba Isioye was marked to be deposed and banished. Our firebrand politician with a superb Offa content, who understood the colour of the water under the bridge, was the ORACLE who performed the MIRACLE to rescue the late Oba Isioye from the imminent arrest and banishment.

As the Northern government went further to stop the salary of the Oba Isioye, our highly revered and fiercely respected O.D.U Administrative Secretary mobilised O.D.U members at home and in diaspora to pay his salary from that date till he passed on in 1969.

As the first Asiwaju of Offa, installed by the 23rd Olofa of Offa, HRH, Oba Mustapha Olawore Olanipekun Ariwajoye II in 1982, the highly cerebral Baba J. S. undoubtedly paid his dues as a legend extraordinary to unify Offa by ending its polarisation and laid the foundation of a new Offa in the democratic landscape of Kwara state and beyond for our collective sense of history and glory.

The love of Baba J. S for Offa was strong enough to split a rock. He lived and breathed Offa like no other. He was our oasis in the desert, the voice of the voiceless who gave abundant hope to the hopeless. We shall continue to echo the legendary message of Baba J. S. to the generation yet unborn for the emancipation of man and spread of blessings of liberty in the universe through social justice, equity and honesty.

Baba J. S. was happily married to Chief (Mrs) Ruth Mopelola Akinola and blessed with five sons and four daughters.

His death in Offa, his home town, on the night of Tuesday 10th of October, 2000 at the age of 75 years was the end of a unique era in our political hemisphere.

Adieu!! Our Cicero!!!
