The story of Barrister (Hon.) Olusegun Oluwatoyin Mosobolaje Olawoyin, Chief Akinrogun of Offa, begins at a defining moment in the political history of Offa and its surrounding communities.

On December 7, 1968, Offa was in a celebratory mood. Residents from different walks of life gathered at the residence of the late Josiah Sunday Olawoyin (J.S. Olawoyin) to mark a major political victory, which was the successful creation of Oyun Division with Offa as its headquarters in the then newly created Kwara State.

J.S. Olawoyin, a prominent political figure and community leader, had played a central role in the agitation and negotiations that led to the achievement. The declaration was widely seen as a landmark victory for the people, and the atmosphere in Offa that day reflected the significance of the moment.

Amid the celebration came another important piece of news: his wife, Mrs. Ruth Mopelola Olawoyin, had given birth to a baby boy at the General Hospital, Offa.

That child was Olusegun Oluwatoyin Mosobolaje Olawoyin.

His birth, coming at the height of a major political milestone for Offa, was regarded by many as symbolic.

In recognition of the timing, the Offa Descendants Union took special interest in the naming, seeing the child’s arrival as a blessing that coincided with the town’s historic victory.

He was given the name Olusegun, while his father named him Mosobolaje. His naming ceremony was later held on December 14, 1968; the same day the Kwara State Government officially declared the creation of Oyun Division.

Born into the influential Olawoyin family, Olusegun's root is the lineage of Onikoyi, the renowned warrior of Onise’s Compound in Essa Ward, Offa.

His father, J.S. Olawoyin, was the son of Nathaniel Olawoyin, also known as N.O. King.

His mother, Madam Mopelola Olawoyin, was the daughter of late Chief Akinola of Ojomu Arojojoye’s Compound, Offa.

Before becoming a businesswoman, she worked as a seamstress and later established a restaurant business.

Her entrepreneurial background would later prove valuable in managing Liberty Hotel, founded by her husband in 1974.

Growing up, Olusegun was raised in an environment deeply shaped by politics, leadership, and community engagement.

His father’s residence was a regular meeting point for political associates, supporters, and activists from across the North-Central region.

This early exposure placed the young Olusegun at the heart of political discussions and leadership interactions from an early age.

A key figure in his early life was Mr. Kola Atiba, a close family friend and tenant in the Olawoyin household.

Mr. Atiba took a special interest in the young boy’s upbringing and education, eventually becoming his guardian for a period.

It was under his care that Olusegun began his formal education at Iyeru Okin Primary School, Offa. His early schooling later took him beyond Offa to Baptist Day Primary Schools in Jebba and Igbaja in 1975, now within present-day Kwara State.

He completed his primary education in 1980 after obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate.

His secondary school education reflected the family’s commitment to broad exposure and diverse experiences. Over the years, he attended several schools across present-day Kwara and Kogi states. These included Titcombe College, Egbe; Offa Grammar School; ESSMO, Mopa; and Bishop Ajayi Crowther College, Lokoja.

He eventually concluded his secondary education at Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo, where he sat for his WASC/GCE examination in 1988.

For many who have followed his journey, these formative years laid the foundation for the public life, legal career, and community leadership that would later define Barrister Olusegun Olawoyin.

My attention has been drawn to a malicious and politically motivated publication alleging that I am under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over purported financial mismanagement during my tenure as Executive Chairman of Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

I wish to categorically, clearly and unequivocally state that at no time have I been served any invitation letter, queried, interrogated or investigated by the EFCC, ICPC or any anti-corruption agency over allegations of fraud, misappropriation or mismanagement of public funds.

The publication in circulation is entirely false, baseless, misleading and a desperate fabrication by political detractors whose only objective is to smear my hard-earned reputation and distract the good people of Osun East from the issues that truly matter.

I resigned from office honourably and voluntarily in line with my desire to further pursue my Senatorial aspiration for Osun East Senatorial District. Throughout my service as SUBEB Chairman, I discharged my responsibilities with utmost transparency, accountability, diligence and fear of God. Every project executed and every public fund committed under my leadership followed due process and government regulations.

For the records, this is not my first time in public office. I served meritoriously as Executive Chairman of Ilesa West Local Government in 2008 under the administration of His Excellency, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, where I left behind developmental strides and a legacy of responsible leadership that remains unmatched till today.

I therefore urge the public, members of the Accord, supporters and the entire people of Osun East to disregard the concocted lies being spread by agents of political bitterness and insecurity.

No amount of blackmail, propaganda or sponsored falsehood can erase years of proven service, integrity and grassroots connection with the people.

I remain focused, peaceful and committed to issue-based politics and the development of Osun East Senatorial District. I also extend my hand of fellowship to fellow aspirants and party stakeholders to work together in unity and common purpose for the growth of our party and the progress of our people.

Truth does not fear propaganda. Character cannot be destroyed by lies.

[OPINION] SIR AND LADY OLUSOJI OLAGUNJU: THE MAKING OF THE NEW AREMO AND YEYE AREMO OF OFFA KINGDOM

I had intended to write this piece before the installation ceremony of Sir and Lady Olusoji Olagunju as the newly appointed Aremo and Yeye Aremo of Offa. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to do so. It was only on the night before the grand ceremony that I finally decided to pen this down. On the eve of his installation, which was on a Friday, I met Sir Olagunju at the Imperial Event Centre, one of the best event centres in Kwara State. The centre is owned by our respected Kabiyesi Olofa of Offa and the paramount ruler of Ibololand, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Okikiola Esuwoye II, Ajagungbade I. My partner, Lukman Afolabi, and I were there to see the ODU National Social Secretary, Idowu Muideen Oladipo (IMO), who was one of the installation committee members. Upon arrival, I asked our host to identify our new Aremo among the people we met at the centre so that we could offer our congratulations.

I remember thinking that Lukman might have known Sir Olagunju from a distance. Lukman has an amazing ability to recognise people with ease, unlike me, who would need to confirm if I saw someone again on the second day. However, I must confess that I have only heard many positive stories about Sir Olusoji Olagunju and have never had the pleasure of meeting him before. As if they knew what I was thinking, both Lukman and IMO expressed their surprise at my ignorance, and one of them jokingly said, "Omo o daayan mo, you do not know better people."

The national social secretary then informed us that the new Aremo was on the phone but would be with us shortly. After he finished his call, we were eagerly introduced to him. I must say that we were immediately impressed by his courteous, humble, and urbane demeanour. He welcomed us warmly, and it felt as if we had known him for a long time. We congratulated him on his new role as Aremo and wished him all the best. Based on our interaction with him and what I had heard about him in the past, I concluded that his selection was the perfect choice for the position.

It is noteworthy that Sir Olagunju's installation, along with that of his wife, Yeye Aremo, received unanimous approval from the princes and princesses of Offa. This is a clear indication of the high esteem in which he is held by the royal family and the people of Offa. It is also a testament to his outstanding leadership skills and his ability to inspire trust and confidence in others. It is also important to note that the Aremo title is not a customary chieftaincy title. It is acquired by birthright: "Omo Oba o ki i je oye." Aremo is typically a royal title reserved for those of royal blood. In most cases, the first son of the reigning king has the right to bear the name. However, recent events have shown that the title of Aremo can be given to individuals outside the royal family. Although rare, some kings give the title to people outside their domain as a way of recognising their contributions to the community.

Oba Mustafa Olawoore Olanipekun Ariwajoye II established the Aremo title in Offa. He was the 23rd Olofa of Offa, reigning from 1970 to 2010. The first recipient of the title was Professor Jimoh Mosobalaje Olaloye Oyawoye, OON, CON, who held the title from 1997 until his death in 2023. The new Aremo of Offa, Soji Olagunju, shares many similarities with his predecessor, Professor Oyawoye. Sir Olagunju is not only a prince on both his maternal and paternal sides, but he is also a self-made community man and a lover of people. In terms of lineage, Olagunju is the great-grandson of Prince Oyewole Temileke, the son of Oba Olumorin Anilelerin who was the Olofa of Offa between 1803 and 1832. On the maternal side, he is the great-grandson of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Atanda Adeyemi I (Alowolodu bi iyere), who reigned between 1945 and 1955. It is worth noting that the selection process for the Aremo title in Offa is complex and often lengthy, considering several factors such as his lineage, accomplishments, and notable contributions to society before a final decision is made. However, Olofa reserves the prerogative of appointing whomever he wishes to the position of Aremo.

The new Aremo of Offa, Sir Olusoji Olagunju, was born in 1964 and is a highly skilled communication expert. He is widely recognised for his remarkable contribution to the media industry, particularly for his efforts in establishing the first indigenous Catholic TV network (CTN). Lumen Christi TV broadcasts on multichannel (DSTV) and various other platforms worldwide. Prince Olagunju has an impressive academic portfolio, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance, a Master's degree in Business Administration, and an honorary doctorate in Business Administration. His passion for learning and professional development has also led him to attend several courses and training programmes, both in Nigeria and abroad, including a prestigious training programme at the Harvard Business School in Boston, USA, in 2007.

Prince Olagunju is a highly accomplished investment banker and finance executive with a career spanning over 30 years. He began as an assistant registrar at First Registrars Ltd. in 2000 and rose to the position of deputy registrar in 2003. He also served several times as Registrar/MD of First Registrars Ltd. in an acting capacity. In 2005, he became Registrar/MD and CEO of Union Registrars Ltd., where he served as Registrar of Union Bank, Unilever, John Holt, SmithKline Beecham, Mobil Oil, Nestle Foods, and several others. Additionally, he played a critical role in the privatisation and commercialization exercise of the Obasanjo/Atiku administration as the team leader for the successful share offerings and launching of Zenith Bank, Oceanic Bank, Oando Plc, Standard Trust Bank, and several others in the years 2000–2002 on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Prince Olagunju is currently the Executive Chairman of Ebenezery Industries Ltd., a position he has held with distinction. His exceptional contributions to his community and country have earned him numerous awards and recognitions over the years. In 2021, he received the Papal Knighthood of the Order of St. Gregory the Great, the highest international award for a layperson in the Mother Church, from Pope Francis. Apart from the Papal Knighthood, Prince Olagunju has received several other prestigious awards, including the Lagos State Government Recognition Award, the World Union of Catholic Women Organisation Excellence Award, and the St. Cyprian Catholic Church Award, among others. Prince Olagunju's impact is not limited to his international recognition. In his hometown of Offa, he has made significant contributions to the community, earning him the Silver Award from the St. Cyprian Catholic Church. This award is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the church and his exemplary leadership qualities.

Lady Olabisi Clementine Olagunju, the Yeye Aremo, like her husband, received her primary and secondary education in Lagos. She was born on October 2, 1974, and hails from the Akoshile family of Oro in Kwara State. Lady Olagunju is a trained medical doctor who completed her internship and house officer duties at the Lagos State Government General Hospital, Ikeja. She then served with the Lagos State Health Management Board between 2004 and 2005 before going into private medical practice. Currently, she is the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Ebenezery Heights Hospital in Lekki, Lagos. Additionally, Dr. Bisi Olagunju serves on the boards of Ebenezery Industries Ltd. Dr. Olagunju received the Yeye Aremo honour in recognition of her love for Offa, her people, and her history. She was also recognised for her unwavering support for her husband, Sir Olusoji Olagunju, over the years.

Offa is widely known for its welcoming and inclusive culture towards people who come to marry its sons and daughters. Notably, both the late Chief Mrs Omotola Awolowo-Oyediran (wife of Prof ABOO Oyediran who is the Baasegun of Offa) and Chief Mrs Caterine Ewemade Etim Soleye (wife of late Dr JD Soleye, who was the Bobagunwa of Offa) were honoured with the titles of Yeye Baasegun and Yeye Bobagunwa of Offa, respectively, along with their husbands who are from Offa. In a similar vein, both Chief Bayo Ojo (husband of Chief Mrs Folashade Ojo, who is the Yeye Olumofin of Offa) and Chief Rauf Kayode Adisa (husband of Chief Mrs Bolaji Iyabo Ibiyeye-Adisa, who is the Iyalode of Offa), were honoured with chieftaincy titles of Olumofin and Otun Atobase of Offa, respectively, along with their wives who are also from Offa.

The idea of recognising people's efforts, regardless of their place of birth, tribes, or religion, in Offa was born out of the desire of the Kabiyesi, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, Ajagungbade I, to unite the community. It also aims to renew their efforts, propel Offa to new heights, and inspire others to act. The remarkable accomplishments and selfless service of the array of Offa traditional and honorary chiefs have been an inspiration to many, especially the younger generations. Furthermore, the installation of these chiefs has created a stronger bond of unity and cooperation that transcends the boundaries of the town. It is hoped that this recognition will encourage more individuals to contribute to the continued advancement and prosperity of Offa. This is to once again wish the new Aremo and Yeye Aremo all the best in their new positions.

The University of Offa (UNIOFFA), Kwara State has commenced admission into its undergraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The institution therefore invites suitably qualified candidates to apply across its faculties.

The university announced that admission is open into programmes under the Faculty of Science and Computing, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, as well as the Faculty of Education.

Available courses in the Faculty of Science and Computing include Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Physics with Electronics and Microbiology.

Under the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, candidates can apply for Economics, Business Administration, Political Science, Accounting and Mass Communication.

The Faculty of Education offers programmes in Economics Education, Social Studies Education, and Vocational and Technical Education.

According to the admission requirements released by the institution, applicants are expected to possess five credits in WASSCE, NECO, NABTEB or GCE O’Level examinations in not more than two sittings.

The university also stated that Direct Entry candidates with two A’ Level passes in IJMB, JUPEB or Cambridge A’ Level are eligible to apply.

UNIOFFA fixed 150 as the minimum JAMB score for admission consideration for the session.

The institution further disclosed that candidates awaiting results can also apply for its diploma programme.

Hon. 10 Cars, 150 Motorcycles Distributed for Adeleke’s Re-Election Campaign

The lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Salam, has distributed cars and motorcycles to support the re-election campaign of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The distribution took place on Tuesday May 11, 2026 at country home in Ede, during the official launch of the Accord governorship campaign in Ede Federal Constituency.

At the event, 150 motorcycles and 10 cars were distributed to selected campaign coordinators drawn from the 42 wards across the four local government areas to aid campaign activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke’s sister, Mrs. Modupeola Adeleke-Sanni, commended Salam for supporting the governor’s re-election bid through the empowerment initiative.

She urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the vehicles for the campaign and expressed optimism that they would return with them to celebrate Governor Adeleke’s second-term victory after the election.

Mrs Modupeola also prayed for the safety of all beneficiaries during the campaign period.

In his remarks, the Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi, praised Salam for what he described as his consistent contributions to party development and grassroots mobilization.

He noted that politics should be used as a platform to positively impact the lives of people through quality representation and empowerment programmes.

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and National Coordinator of the Kwankwaso National Network (KNN), Asiwaju Mashood Shittu, has declared his intention to contest the Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.

Shittu, popularly known as AMS, made his intention known in a campaign graphic shared on his official Facebook account earlier today, Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

The declaration marks another major political move by the former African Democratic Congress (ADC) stalwart following his recent alignment with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

It would be recalled that AMS was among loyalists of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) earlier this month.

His resignation was conveyed in a letter dated May 2, 2026, and addressed to the ADC Ward Chairman in Shawo South East Ward, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Secretary to the Osun State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, on Thursday led thousands of Accord members, political stakeholders, youths, women groups, and supporters in a massive “Imole Walk” in Osogbo in support of the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The rally, which witnessed an overwhelming turnout across major streets in Osogbo and surrounding communities, further demonstrated the growing acceptance and popularity of Governor Adeleke’s administration among the people of Osun State.

Residents and supporters trooped out in large numbers, chanting solidarity songs and displaying banners in appreciation of the Governor’s performance in office. Many participants noted that Governor Adeleke has justified the confidence reposed in him through impactful governance, infrastructural development, workers’ welfare, and people-oriented policies across the state.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye stated that the people of Osogbo and its environs remain solidly behind Governor Adeleke because of his visible achievements and inclusive style of governance.

“My leader, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has done exceptionally well for the people of Osogbo and Osun State at large. From infrastructure to workers’ welfare, education, healthcare, and grassroots development, his administration has continued to touch lives positively. The only way to appreciate this good governance is to reciprocate with massive votes in 2026,” he said.

He added that the unprecedented turnout at the walk was a clear indication that the people have already made up their minds to sustain the current administration beyond 2026.

According to him, the growing alliance and cooperation among progressive-minded groups and supporters across the state would further widen the political gap between Accord and the APC in the coming election.

“The margin between Accord and APC will be massive because Osun people have seen the difference clearly. The people are united in one ACCORD for progress, development, and continuity of good governance. The era of deception and anti-people policies is gone. What we are witnessing today is a people-driven movement determined to keep Osun moving forward under Governor Adeleke,” he added.

The walk ended with enthusiastic supporters reaffirming their commitment to mobilizing voters across all local governments to ensure a landslide victory for Governor Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election.

A coalition of community leaders, professionals, youth groups, and development stakeholders under the banner of E4 Development Advocates has formally declared support for the re-election of Rep. Bamidele Salam to the House of Representatives, citing his performance and impact across the Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency.

In a communiqué issued on Wednesday and signed by its Coordinator, Dr. Ogundeji Awoniyi, the group described Salam as one of the most productive lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly. It referenced his ranking among the top 20 legislators in the ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Productivity Index, noting that he emerged as the highest-performing representative from Osun State with 33 legislative actions recorded in a single session.

The coalition highlighted Salam’s constituency interventions, which it said have significantly impacted residents across the four local government areas. According to the statement, these include youth empowerment initiatives such as the Business and Leadership Bootcamp, skills acquisition programmes for women and artisans, healthcare outreach for the elderly, and educational support schemes for students.

The group listed several projects attributed to the lawmaker, including the construction of over 100 classroom blocks in 25 schools, distribution of bursaries to more than 3,000 students, and the provision of over 50 motorized and solar-powered boreholes. It also cited the installation of solar streetlights, distribution of transformers to communities, and the facilitation of rural electrification projects.

Other initiatives mentioned include the training and empowerment of over 20,000 constituents, grants exceeding ₦150 million to support youth entrepreneurship, ₦40 million disbursed to women through a micro-credit scheme, and ₦10 million allocated to the Nigerian Union of Teachers for financial support. The lawmaker was also credited with constructing civic infrastructure such as town halls, ICT centres, and skill acquisition facilities, as well as sponsoring over 100 indigent students on full scholarships.

On infrastructure, the group noted that more than 30 kilometres of roads have been constructed or rehabilitated across the constituency, alongside the facilitation of job placements for hundreds of constituents in federal ministries, departments, and agencies.

Addressing concerns around political representation, the coalition dismissed claims of marginalisation within the constituency, particularly regarding Ejigbo Local Government. It outlined a historical rotation of the House of Representatives seat among the four local governments since 1999, noting that Ejigbo has produced two federal lawmakers and held other key positions, including Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly and a senatorial seat.

The statement further emphasized the strategic importance of retaining experienced lawmakers, noting that Salam’s current role as Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts and his membership of the ECOWAS Parliament position him to attract greater federal presence and development to the constituency.

While acknowledging the right of individuals to contest for office, the group cautioned against what it described as divisive and misleading political campaigns. It urged aspirants to engage in issue-based politics and called on party leaders and stakeholders to prioritise competence, integrity, and proven performance in their decision-making.

The coalition also reaffirmed its commitment to unity within the political fold and commended party leadership for maintaining stability. It urged all political actors to align with the development agenda of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, which it said focuses on people-oriented governance.

The group concluded that re-electing Rep. Salam would ensure continuity of development projects and strengthen the constituency’s influence at the national level.

“At this crucial stage of our constituency’s development, continuity remains key to consolidating the gains already achieved,” the statement read.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday Inaugurated his campaign council for August 2026 Governor Election in the state.

While inaugurating the campaign council tagged, 'The Imole Campaign Council' at Imole House in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital, the Governor noted that Accord will win the election with wide margin.

He added that he is already feeling the cloud of victory around him, his team and his political party, the Accord.

“I am feeling the victory, the defeat of our opponents. This team is heading to victory. My spirit confirms our party, the Accord, is declared winner with wide margins.

“This is how we started in 2022. Today is the march to victory on August 15th. I hereby inaugurate this Campaign Council to the service of continuity and delivery of good governance”, the governor told party members amidst singing and dancing.

In his own address, the Director General of Imole Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi noted that the council will focus on promoting the achievements of Governor Adeleke and will not join issues with anybody or group who have nothing to sell.

"The only message I have, particularly to our youth and media, we have to recognise that what we did in 2018 and 2022 is different from what we have to do now. Because, God has promoted us from opposition party to a ruling party. The style of campaigning of someone in opposition is quite different from that of somebody who is not only in government but has been doing very very well.

"So, we are going to disappoint a lot of people in town who are thinking we are going to be joining issues with people who have nothing to sell. Our candidate is good and the market is fine. So, what is the problem?

"If we are here in the next one year, we cannot tell Osun people everything that Governor Adeleke has done. What we need to do now is to tell Osun people what they want to hear. They (Osun people) know our Governor; they (Osun people) know him to be a gentleman; they (Osun people) know him to be law-abiding person who will always be an ambassador of what is right. That is what is endearing him to the people of Osun State. They (Osun people) are ready for this election. They (Osun people) are anxious and prepared as if the election should happen tomorrow. What we need most is to ensure that we organise ourselves", he noted.

He said "We have done this thing before. We did it in 2017 and won; did it in 2018 and won; did it in 2022 and won. So, this time around, we will win.

"We have fought this fight before, and it is not new to us. We are going to repeat it with a very wide margin. They (APC) have nothing to campaign with; they (APC) cannot point to any achievement in this Osun State.

"Osun belongs to Ademola and Ademola belongs to Osun. He has done marvellously well in Osun state that people of Osun state want him. I know that by the time this man finishes eight years, Osun state would have become a small London."

De Royal Beautiful Queens, a non-profit association made up of the wives of traditional rulers in Ijesaland, has empowered youths on solar panel installation.

The association, which comprises queens from various Ijesa communities, disclosed that the initiative was created to complement the efforts of royal fathers toward the growth and development of their respective kingdoms.

The event, which was attended by traditional rulers, was shaped by the presentation of cash rewards and tools for solar installation to beneficiaries, as well as certificates of participation, indicating that their training had been completed successfully and equipping them with practical skills for self-reliance.

The President of the association, Olori Modupeola Ogungbangbe of Iloko-Ijesa, while delivering her speech, said empowering youths with adequate skills and support will help reduce unemployment in the society.

She maintained that the association will continue to support community development projects with a focus on young people, women, and vulnerable groups.

The Chief Executive Officer of Blessed Paul Technologies and Institute Company, Mr. Akintunde Akinsete, who conducted the training, said the beneficiaries had embarked on a one-week intensive programme on the major rudiments involved in solar installation, where they were exposed to both theoretical and practical aspects of the skill.

He advised the beneficiaries to display a high sense of professionalism in their practice and remain committed to continuous learning.

Alayeluwa Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe, the Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, while addressing beneficiaries, highlighted 3Cs and I - capital, connection, competence, and integrity as key factors for success in any venture.

*RE: REBUTTAL OF FALSE AND RECKLESS ALLEGATIONS BY APC AGAINST THE JOINT LABOUR MOVEMENT, OSUN STATE*

The attention of the Joint Labour Movement in Osun State—comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC)—has been drawn to a misleading, poorly conceived, and malicious press statement issued by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), through its Director of Media and Information, Mr. Kola Olabisi.

Ordinarily, a publication so riddled with falsehoods, baseless assumptions, and a glaring misunderstanding of labour principles would not warrant a response. However, in the interest of setting the record straight and preventing the public from being misled, we consider it necessary to respond.

First and foremost, we categorically and unequivocally deny the outrageous and fictitious claim of ₦300 million allegedly earmarked for so-called “campaign tours” of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. This claim is entirely imaginary, unfounded, and should be dismissed by all discerning members of the public.

The Joint Labour Movement is not, and will never be, an avenue for financial recklessness or political profiteering.
Contrary to the crude insinuations by the APC, governance in Osun State under the current administration is not defined by the squandering or “spraying” of public funds, but by tangible infrastructural development and sustained commitment to workers’ welfare. The attempt to link the planned courtesy visits to any political campaign for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke is not only false but deliberately mischievous.

These visits are strictly industrial and administrative engagements, aimed at fostering interaction with workers, assessing workplace realities, and strengthening communication between labour leadership and its members.
It is both unfortunate and revealing that a political party would display such a shallow understanding of trade union operations by describing the Joint Labour Movement as “unknown” or “illegal.” For clarity, the Joint Labour Movement is a legitimate and recognised collaborative platform of established labour centres—NLC, TUC, and JNC—created to harmonise positions on issues affecting workers. Its existence and activities are fully consistent with established labour practices and the law.

The attempt to question the legal standing of labour leaders in Osun State only exposes the APC’s long-standing disconnect from workers and their realities. Labour leadership derives its authority from the collective mandate of workers—not from political validation or convenience.
When the former Head of Service, Dr. Olowogboyega Festus Oyebade, was moving round the ministries to openly campaign for Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the former Governor of Osun State, why didn't the APC release a press statement against such action?
When the former Head of Service, Dr. Olowogboyega Festus Oyebade was moving round the ministries to buy Workers with ₦50,000 per ministry, where was Osun APC?

Furthermore, the insinuation that labour activities are deliberately timed to align with the political calendar is speculative, baseless, and misleading. Labour engagements are driven by necessity and responsibility, not by electoral considerations. Workers’ rights and welfare cannot be suspended or adjusted to suit partisan narratives.
We strongly condemn the reckless language, defamatory tone, and unfounded allegations contained in the APC statement, including insinuations of “co-looting,” “illegality,” and other fabricated claims. Such utterances are irresponsible, unbecoming, and only serve to diminish the integrity of public discourse.

It is deeply disappointing that rather than engaging constructively on issues affecting workers and governance, the APC has chosen the path of propaganda, misinformation, and cheap political attacks.
We therefore advise Mr. Kola Olabisi and his associates to redirect their energies toward more constructive and productive engagements, instead of making futile attempts to mislead the public and drag Osun State back into an era characterised by misinformation, stagnation, and anti-worker policies.
Osun State has moved beyond the dark days of neglect and regression. The people are discerning and can clearly distinguish between governance driven by service and that driven by self-interest.

The Joint Labour Movement remains focused, responsible, and unwavering in its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and advancing their welfare. We will not be distracted by baseless accusations or politically motivated propaganda.
We urge the good people of Osun State to disregard the APC’s publication in its entirety, as it lacks substance, credibility, and sincerity.

The path of progress must not be derailed by voices of regression.

A group under the aegis of Concerned Stakeholders for Equity, Competence, and Progress in Ifedayo Local Government has called on the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to ensure that merit, competence, and credibility take precedence over zoning arrangements in the selection of the constituency’s next representative in the State House of Assembly.

The group made this known in a statement responding to an earlier publication titled “Defending Fairness, Preserving Peace…” issued by some stakeholders from Less City in Ifedayo Local Government.

While acknowledging the importance of fairness, peace, and unity, the group argued that the issues at stake should not be framed solely around zoning but rather balanced with competence, equity, and the overall progress of the constituency.

According to the stakeholders, rotational arrangements may have served a purpose in the past, but should not override merit, capacity, and public acceptance. They emphasized that governance and legislative representation require individuals with proven competence, experience, and widespread acceptance to deliver effective democratic dividends.

The group stressed that every zone within Ifedayo has always had the opportunity to present capable candidates and that it remains the responsibility of political leaders and party members to democratically select the most qualified aspirant.

They further stated that several capable and widely acceptable individuals have already indicated interest in the race, urging all aspirants to subject themselves to a democratic process rather than resort to sectional agitation.

Addressing claims about prior zoning agreements, the group maintained that no binding agreement had ever been reached on zoning and cautioned against what it described as political laziness and parochial grandstanding, noting that democracy thrives on open competition and inclusiveness.

The stakeholders also expressed concern that the tone of the earlier publication could be perceived as an attempt to influence the Governor into supporting a predetermined outcome. They therefore appealed to Governor Adeleke to uphold fairness, neutrality, and internal democracy within the party.

The group called on the Governor to prioritize credibility, competence, and acceptability in the selection process, ensure a free and fair contest, support capable aspirants who can provide effective representation, and resist pressure to enforce rigid zoning arrangements that may no longer serve the interest of the constituency.

They concluded by expressing confidence in Governor Adeleke’s commitment to fairness, democratic principles, and the overall progress of Ifedayo Local Government and Osun State at large.

Hon. Niran Akanfe Atidade has shared the reasons behind his decision to contest once again for a seat in the Osun State House of Assembly under the Accord Party.

Atidade, who represented Ede South State Constituency from 2019 to 2023, explained that his renewed ambition is rooted in his enduring passion for service, grassroots development, accessibility, and the desire to build on the progress achieved during his first term, despite the challenges of serving as a PDP lawmaker in an APC controlled and dominated Assembly at the time.

It will be recalled that he was among the three PDP lawmakers (now in the Accord Party) who sought re-election in 2023 but lost at the primaries, while the other two secured return tickets. Despite this setback, Atidade remained actively engaged with his constituents, maintaining strong connections and staying accessible to the people.

Atidade commended the Governor’s people-centered leadership, describing him as a listening leader who prioritizes the welfare of the masses. He also offered prayers for the Governor’s re-election, expressing confidence in a resounding victory.

Further speaking on his ambition, Atidade emphasized that his desire to return goes beyond holding office, but rather to deepen the delivery of democratic dividends at the grassroots. He noted that with what he described as a “talk-and-do” Governor in place, there is a stronger platform to drive meaningful development.

He pledged to scale up empowerment programmes, attract more developmental projects, and deliver effective representation that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of his constituents.

“I am returning to the House of Assembly to serve better, achieve more, and amplify the voices of my people,” he said.

He therefore appealed to the people of Ede South for their continued support, assuring them of transparent, accountable, and inclusive representation if given another mandate.

FALSE ALLEGATIONS, MISREPRESENTATION OF LABOUR ACTIONS, AND EMERGING PUBLIC CONCERNS IN OSUN STATE

The attention of the Joint Labour Movement in Osun State—comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC)—has been drawn to a misleading, inflammatory, and wholly unfounded press statement credited to the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging a planned violent protest by labour union against the United Bank for Africa (UBA).

We categorically state that the claims contained in the said publication are false, malicious, and a calculated attempt to misinform security agencies and the general public, intimidate workers, and discredit the legitimate and lawful actions of organised labour.

For the avoidance of doubt, the resolutions of the Joint Labour Movement, reached at its duly constituted meeting of 17th March 2026, were clear, structured, and firmly rooted in constitutional provisions and principles of peaceful industrial engagement.

Nowhere in our resolutions was there any directive or suggestion of violence, abduction, disruption, or any form of unlawful conduct.

The planned picketing exercise remains a peaceful, lawful, and globally recognised industrial action, consistent with the rights of workers as guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and international labour standards to which Nigeria is a signatory.

It is therefore both alarming and unfortunate that a political party would descend to the level of fabricating allegations such as “kidnapping,” “destruction,” and “criminal intent,” in a desperate bid to: Create unnecessary tension within the State, Mislead security agencies into unjustified confrontation with law-abiding workers, and Undermine the collective struggle of workers seeking fairness, transparency, and adherence to due process.

Beyond these false allegations, a more troubling dimension has emerged—one that has not gone unnoticed by the general public and the masses of Osun State.

It is both disturbing and unacceptable that while legitimate concerns are being raised by organised labour against the United Bank for Africa (UBA), the response is not coming from the institution directly, but rather from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This development raises several fundamental and unavoidable questions:

Why is APC acting as the spokesperson and defender of UBA in a matter that directly concerns workers and their welfare?

Why has UBA itself remained conspicuously silent instead of engaging the Labour Unions in dialogue for a peaceful resolution?

Why has there been no formal attempt by UBA to reach out to organised labour, if indeed it has nothing to hide?

Does APC’s unsolicited intervention suggest a deeper, undisclosed relationship with the funds in question?

Is APC indirectly confirming its involvement in the management, control, or withholding of these funds?

Is this defensive posture not indicative of a guilty conscience, now manifesting through diversionary tactics, propaganda, and baseless allegations against labour?

The ongoing attempt to twist narratives, raise false alarms, and accuse others of misconduct only strengthens public suspicion rather than dispelling it.

The good people of Osun State—workers, retirees, artisans, market men and women, and commercial transport operators—are not blind to these developments.

They are deeply concerned and are asking critical questions about governance, accountability, and the apparent pattern of response from the APC.

These concerns include:

When will APC release a press statement showing solidarity with the citizens as a result of the PMS hike?


When will APC cease its consistent anti-worker posture?

When will it stop policies and actions that promote hardship and economic suffocation of the masses?

When will it abandon its role as an agent of impoverishment?

When will it stop acting against the collective interest of citizens of Osun State?

When will it desist from engaging in propaganda, misinformation, and deliberate distortion of facts?

Furthermore, the conduct displayed reflects patterns that can only be described as:
Persistent insensitivity to the plight of workers and retirees,
Arrogance in the face of legitimate demands,
Disregard for due process and institutional responsibility,
Political interference in matters requiring administrative neutrality,
Manipulation of public perception through misinformation,
Evasion of accountability and transparency, and
Systematic undermining of workers’ rights and welfare.

We wish to place on record that:

Labour’s concerns are centered on financial irregularities affecting statutory allocations and workers’ welfare, particularly within the Local Government system.

All steps taken so far—including engagements, correspondences, and resolutions—have followed due process and established institutional channels.

The decision to embark on picketing was not arbitrary but a last resort after all reasonable avenues failed to yield results.

The attempt by the APC to link labour actions to political sponsorship or to falsely attribute motives of violence is not only reckless but exposes a deeper agenda to silence and weaken the voice of workers in Osun State.

We find it necessary to caution that:

Labour unions are independent organisations, not tools in the hands of any political party or interest group.

Any attempt to criminalise legitimate industrial action is a direct affront to democracy and the rule of law.

Security agencies must remain professional and not allow themselves to be misled by politically motivated narratives lacking in substance and evidence.

We therefore call on:

The Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant agencies to disregard these false alarms and instead uphold their constitutional responsibility of protecting citizens engaged in lawful activities.

The general public to remain calm and not be swayed by misinformation deliberately crafted to incite fear and confusion.

Finally, we urge the APC and its representatives to refrain from further spreading falsehoods and to desist from attempts to heat up the polity.

This situation calls for honesty, responsibility, and immediate corrective action—not political theatrics or calculated deflection.

The people are watching. The workers are resolute. And history will judge every action taken in this matter.

Labour remains committed to peace, justice, and the protection of workers’ rights and will not be intimidated or distracted by baseless propaganda.

An injury to one is an injury to all.

The palace of Owa Obokun Adimula has urged the general public to disregard the misleading leaflets being circulated by Mr. Adebola Orolugbagbe, portraying a so-called “triumphant return” to the Odole Chieftaincy House, which he claims to be based on a court order.

A statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the palace, Barrister Dupe Ajayi Gbadebo, and made public by the media aide, Isaac Haastrup, describes the action of Mr. Bola Orolugbagbe as a calculated attempt to misinform the public and disrupt peace.

According to the statement, the court is yet to start hearing the suit filed by Mr. Orolugbagbe, challenging his removal by the Owa Obokun for gross misconduct.

The so-called “orders” Mr. Orolugbagbe relies on are strictly temporary measures to maintain calm while the court hears the full case. They do not confer legitimacy, they do not establish rights, and they certainly do not authorise any so-called “return.”

Until a competent court determines the substantive suit after hearing all parties, no individual has the right to claim authority or parade a false narrative of victory.

The statement denounces the actions of Mr. Orolugbagbe and Mr. Busuyi Gbadamosi for resorting to self-help by hijacking the bailiff service process and causing chaos at the Odole Chieftaincy house.

The statement adds that no one should interact with Mr. Orolugbagbe and Mr. Gbadamosi, as they are no longer recognized as the Odole and Oba Odo of Ilesa, having been removed by the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.

Stakeholders of the Accord Party from Ejigbo Local Government of Osun State have endorsed the re-election bid of the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke as Governor of Osun State in August 2026 and the current member of the House of Representatives from Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal constituency Rep. A youth movement group from Ifedayo local government, Ifedayo Youth Vanguard (IYV) has called on residents of Osun State to register en masse with Accord Party, saying the party is well positioned to win the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state and strengthen its chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by the Coordinator of the group, Olasunkanmi Adefila, the youth body described the ruling party in Osun as a people-oriented platform that deserves the support of residents across the state.

According to him, the ongoing nationwide membership e-registration exercise provides an opportunity for citizens to formally identify with a political movement committed to the welfare and development of the people.

“Accord is the party that we should all register with in Osun and across Nigeria. When you look at the manifesto of Accord and compare it with the governance style of Ademola Adeleke, you will agree that the focus is clearly on the welfare and progress of the people.

Adefila noted that the administration of Governor Adeleke has delivered visible improvements in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, education, and grassroots development within the last three years.

He said the governor’s performance has earned him widespread support among youths and residents of the state, stressing that the best way to sustain the progress is for citizens to formally align with the party through the membership e-registration exercise.

“There is no doubt that Governor Adeleke has done exceptionally well in the last three years. His leadership has brought renewed hope to many communities across Osun. Farounbi Confirms Freedom of Kidnapped Ora-Igbomina Sons, Seeks Stronger Border Security

The Asiwaju of Ora-Igbomina, Yemi Farounbi, has announced the release of two sons of the community, Sunday Oyekanmi Adeyeye (Tayese) and Sunday Busayo Adewumi who were abducted at their residence on February 1, 2026.

In a statement personally signed by Ambassador Farounbi, he expressed profound gratitude to God for the safe return of the victims, who spent four weeks in captivity.

He described their release as a great relief to their families and the entire Ora-Igbomina community, noting that the period of their abduction was marked by anxiety, fervent prayers, and collective concern. He commended the resilience of the victims and appreciated the support, solidarity, and prayers offered by community members both at home and in the diaspora.

“Though several millions of naira were paid as ransom, including a motorbike and mobile phones, we thank God that they are alive and have returned to us safely,” he stated.

Ambassador Farounbi also acknowledged the efforts of security agencies and individuals who worked behind the scenes to facilitate the safe release of the abductees. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to continue cooperating with security authorities to enhance safety across the community.

“I want to appeal to the governments of Osun, Kwara, and Ekiti states to form a strategic security alliance to strengthen internal security. I also call on the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, deploy additional soldiers and police personnel to our boundary areas with Kwara and Ekiti. These routes are often exploited by criminal elements to terrorize our people,” he added.

He concluded by calling for sustained unity, faith, and collective responsibility in safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing that the security of Ora-Igbomina remains a shared responsibility.

Retirees under the Osun State Contributory Pension Scheme have appealed to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to urgently intervene in the lingering local government crisis in Osun State and facilitate the payment of their outstanding entitlements.

The pensioners, in a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Ayinde Toyeen (State Coordinator), Pastor Adepoju Sunday (Chairman), and Alhaja Abidoye (Chairperson 2), expressed deep concern over the hardship being faced by retirees across the state.

They, however, commended the Executive Governor of Osun State, Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke, for what they described as significant efforts to alleviate the suffering of pensioners since assuming office.

According to the retirees, the Adeleke administration has paid 28 months of half salaries owed by the previous government, as well as 12 months of half salaries to bonded retirees. They also acknowledged the registration of retirees under the State Health Insurance Scheme and the ongoing payment of a ₦10,000 monthly palliative to each pensioner.

“These interventions have brought relief and renewed hope to many retirees who had endured years of hardship,” the statement read.

Despite these efforts, the group appealed to President Tinubu to wade into what they described as the Osun local government imbroglio, urging him to work towards an amicable resolution in the interest of contributory pensioners and the state at large.

The retirees specifically called for the settlement of outstanding entitlements owed to Primary School and Local Government retirees from 2017 to 2026, as well as Secondary School, Tertiary Institutions, and Civil Service retirees from 2020 to 2026.

They lamented that many pensioners are facing severe financial distress, with some reportedly losing their lives due to inability to access adequate medical care.

The group also urged the President to prevail on leaders and members of his political party in Osun State to cooperate in resolving the crisis and prevent further avoidable deaths among retirees.

Reaffirming their loyalty and commitment to the nation, the pensioners described themselves as law-abiding citizens who had served both the state and the country diligently, and appealed for urgent intervention in the interest of justice, fairness, and humanity.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party in Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency has dismissed the defection of Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi and Hon. Wole Oke as a personal political decision taken without the consent or backing of the party structure.

This was contained in statement jointly signed by Prince Adelani Owoeye, PDP Chairman, Obokun Local Government, and Hon. Samuel Adeloye, PDP Chairman, Oriade Local Government.

Theparty leaders said neither the executives nor the general membership of the party were consulted before the lawmakers made their move.

They described the development as “purely self-serving,” insisting that no genuine and committed member of the PDP in the constituency followed the duo in what they termed a “political adventure.”

According to the statement, the party is aware of alleged attempts to induce members with cash to defect but maintained that such efforts have failed.

“Though we are aware that they have been moving around with cash inducements in a desperate attempt to lure our members into what can only be described as political oblivion, our members have remained resolute and refused to be deceived,” the chairmen said.

They added that the party’s structure in Obokun and Oriade remains intact and operational, stressing that the defection did not in any way diminish the strength of the PDP in the federal constituency.

The leaders were particularly critical of Hon. Wole Oke, stating that he rose to political prominence on the platform of the PDP.

“Wole Oke was politically unknown before joining the PDP. The party gave him the structure, support and goodwill that sustained his political career. It is therefore unfortunate that he now believes he can dismantle the very house that sheltered him when the storms of political uncertainty raged,” the statement read.

The party also alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to stage a show of strength by mobilising its members to create the impression of a mass defection from the PDP in Obokun/Oriade.

“This narrative is a fabrication. Our members remain intact, united and unwavering in their loyalty. The structure of the PDP in Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency remains solid and fully operational,” the leaders maintained.

The party chairmen commended what they described as his people-centred governance style, regular payment of salaries and pensions, and commitment to infrastructural development across Osun State.

They urged members of the party to remain calm, focused and committed to the collective vision of the PDP, assuring them that no amount of political intimidation, financial inducement or propaganda would weaken the unity and resolve of the party in Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency.
