Politics / 2023 General Elections, Nigerian Youth-fools And Non-committal by Jimsonjaat96(m): 8:09pm On Jul 30
Undoubtedly, being youthful means full of life, energy and agility. It is a stage of apex awareness and consciousness. Whatever a youth pursues at this point is pursed without detour.

Youthful exuberance is an avenue for constructive productivity. Also energetic, vivacious, passionate and enthusiastic are words that best capture the essence of what a full youth is.

It is that stage in a human development process where his energy fills up and overflows into numerous pre-established channels that may either be productive or a sheer waste of time and energy.

Imagine youths converge and dedicate all the above listed to a cause.

Nigeria as a country had her foundation on such (youthful) cause. I refer to the Anthony Enahoro's 'declaration' of independence for the country in 1953. He has been regarded by academics and many Nigerians as the "Father of Nigeria State.

Enahoro became the editor of Nnamdi Azikiwe's newspaper, the Southern Nigerian Defender, Ibadan, in 1944 at the age of 21, thus becoming Nigeria's youngest editor ever.

Among the people who took the fore of the struggle were Olayinka Herbert Macaulay (1864–1946), Candido Joao Da Rocha (1860-March 11, 1959), Dr. J.K Randle, Dr. C.C Adeniyi Jones, Dr. J.A Caulcrick, Candido da Rocha, Adeyemo Alakija, and Kitoye Ajasa and Aina Sara.

In latter days were Professor Eyo Ìta (1903–1972), Alvan Ikoku (1900–1971), Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), Sir Ahmadu Bello (1910–1966), Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (1912–1966), Chief Samuel Ládòkè Akíntọ́lá, Chief Anthony Enahoro (1923–2010), among others.

(Though much earlier, exactly November 23, 1851, at Windsor Castle, Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther had persuaded Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert that "Lagos must be bombarded". Many believe that this birthed Modern Nigeria. This is a story for another day though).

Nnamdi Azikiwe rose to prominence when he released the first issue of The West African Pilot, his widely read newspaper, on November 22, 1937.

But on Friday, June 19, 1953, Azikiwe, Awolowo, and Bello had their first encounter.

Nigeria experienced a constitutional crisis as a result of its independence and the resignation of all federal ministers from the Action Group party. Following that, the secretary of state for colonies, Oliver Lyttleton, made an effort to improve the situation by summoning the key players to a constitutional conference in London, which resulted in the 1954 Lyttleton Constitution.

Bello was okay with Azikiwe and Awolowo rejecting the terms and circumstances of this constitution. But in order to collectively create new terms and circumstances, Nigeria's governor-general, John Macpherson, invited Azikiwe, Awolowo, and Bello to his office.

The three MPs were introduced to the media by Macpherson after the meeting, which finished at 10:10 p.m. The Daily Times referred to them as "The Big Three" the next day.

However, it is saddened many people understand what convergence of the youths may result to, hence they infiltrate and divide them with the premises of sentiments, religions, tribes, gender, fields of engagement and the likes. It is an open secret that many youths are paid to bemoan youthful cause(s).

Some are distracted by entertainment, Big Brother Naija is on the fore here.

We have had situations that some youths will be saying A and some will be saying B, and with suchlike situations; the center will not hold.

To me, Nigerian youths are too divided and lack focus needed to pursue a cause. And as such, Youth which supposed to be an avenue for constructive productivity, if diligently monitored by the provision of necessary platforms fitted with essential gadgets needed to shape and reshape the shapers of tomorrow into productive units, fall before the tinniest of challenges.

They exercise this kind of lethargy to leadership, business and governance, as if they are all mathematical impossibilities. It is not a surprise that a journalist and presidential spokesman describe them as "keypad warriors". They are on Twitter giving savage responses, Tiktok dancing, Facebook dishing 'vawulence' and IG vibing.

Bleak future. Impending doomsday!

NYSC / NAFDAC, NYSC Collaborate On Healthy Living For Nigerians by Jimsonjaat96(m): 2:17pm On May 13
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has appealed for support from the National Youth Service Corps for the promotion of healthy living among Nigerians.

The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof (Mrs) Moji Adeyeye stated this today in Abuja during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between NAFDAC and NYSC.

Adeyeye said that Corps Members' presence in all the 774 Local Government Areas of the country would be a good driver of the initiative as they would serve as change agents to sensitize Nigerians on the dangers of drug abuse and expired drugs, especially at the grassroots.

She disclosed that the agency's mandate is to safeguard the health of Nigerians alongside the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

"The MSMEs are the ones that actually drive the economy and having NAFDAC Desks in the 774 Local Government Areas will bring NAFDAC closer to the people through the Corps Members", She said.

The Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim who was represented by the Director, Legal Services, Barrister Ibrahim Ahmed Tijani promised the readiness of the Scheme to abide by the terms of the MoU.

He commended NAFDAC for the initiative adding that Corps Members would be helpful in the collaboration, given the successes they have recorded in previous national assignments.

Also speaking, the Director, Community Development Service and Special Projects, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Salawu said the programme was long overdue.

He added that Corps Members would always be ready to create awareness on government's programmes and activities geared towards national development.

NYSC / NYSC To Sanction Institutions Involved In Fraudulent Mobilization Process by Jimsonjaat96(m): 12:27pm On May 12
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim has disclosed that the Scheme is now determined more than ever before to plug all the loopholes and prosecute anyone found complicit in the mobilisation of unqualified graduates for national service.

He stated this today during the maiden meeting of NYSC Management with Registrars of Corps Producing Institutions in Nigeria held in Abuja.

He said the meeting with the theme; "Appreciating the Role of Registrars as Fulcrum in the Mobilisation Process", was conveyed to seek ways of eliminating flaws in the NYSC Mobilisation process.

"Gaps have already been identified with a number of resolutions reached on how to eradicate recurrent challenges, but implementation has remained elusive.

In schools where Registrars have abdicated their roles to subordinate officers, we have seen various forms of abuses and shortfalls.

This has given rise to occasional mobilisation of unqualified persons, many of whom have been detected by NYSC field officers", he said.

General Ibrahim stated further that the meeting was part of enlightenment for the key officers to rise up to their responsibilities adding that ignorance is a stranger to the law.

The DG said that the establishment of NYSC Radio and Television Stations was part of the Scheme's plan to give more enlightenment on NYSC issues including penalties and offences that attracts jail term, while the stations would also be used to disclose the identity of offenders after being declared guilty by the court.

He appealed to Nigerians to support the establishment of NYSC Trust Fund which has enjoyed tremendous goodwill of both the green and red chambers of the National Assembly.

He said upon actualization, NYSC media outfits would transparently show Nigerians the benefits and impacts of the on fund youth development.

In her introductory address, the Director, NYSC Corps Mobilisation Department, Mrs Victoria Ango said the mobilisation exercise was a joint function which must be free from all forms of defects to guarrantee the desired outcome.

She added that the desire of the Management to engage the Registrars of Corps Producing Institutions became manifest when most institutions, both local and foreign, sent people to NYSC programmes with little or no stake in the managerial interest of the schools.

"Such representatives have often been vulnerable to little temptations and perks of office which translate to seriius abuses", Ango said.

The Special Guest of Honour at the meeting, the FCT Minister, Alhaji Muhammed Musa Bello, who was represented by the Mandate Secretary/Chairman, NYSC FCT Governing Board, Hajiya Hadiza M. Kabir said that the credibility of the NYSC Mobilisation process was crucial to the deployment of Corps Members into all sectors of the economy, which invariably translated to quality service delivery delivery for national development.

There were goodwill messages from the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC) Prof Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, the Chairman, NYSC National Governing Board, Ambassador Fati Bala Abubakar, who was represented by Hajiya Binta Muazu.

Islam for Muslims / Are Children Allowed To Come To Your Mosque? by Jimsonjaat96(m): 9:34pm On Apr 16
The Prophet (ﷺ) brought his grandchildren to the Masjid, and they climbed on him, etc; so it is permissible to bring them to the Masjid. That the Prophet (ﷺ) was merciful and kind towards the children.

It is very important to raise our children with a strong attachment and love for their religion, and community, and thus it is important for them to have a strong and positive attachment to the mosque from a young age, especially in non-Muslim environments.

“In Turkey, after teraweh, children are invited to play with the Imam. So that they are happy to go to the mosque. Even some new mosques in Turkey such as the Hamdi Cami mosque in Ankara have a playground in the mosque in the lower right corner of the stairs. If the mosque does not have a place to play inside, it is prepared outside the mosque like a garden. The mosque became the Center of happy people.

They seem to believe in what their predecessor, Sultan AlFatih, commanded that, "Be worried if your mosque no longer hears the voice of a child".

Nairaland / General / 30th Empowerment Programme: We're Consistent With Wealth Creation - Sen Oriolowo by Jimsonjaat96(m): 7:59am On Mar 20
30th Empowerment Programme: We Are Consistent With Wealth Creation, Life Transformation Among Our Constituents, says Senator Oriolowo

The Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District in Osun state, Senator Adelere Oriolowo, on Friday distributed employment materials to his constituents in his 30th edition of his empowerment programmes and 4th edition of distribution of working tools in 2022.

The programme, which was in collaboration with National Directorate of Employment (NDE) was said to be a continuous bid to transform lives and create wealth for the constituents.

Speaking at the occasion in Iwo, Senator Oriolowo said the COVID-19 pandemic's ramifications for the Nigerian poverty index were all too clear, and its consequences for everybody were open secret, necessitating efforts as these.

Represented by the Honourable Ayofe Adisa Tajudeen, the Senator said: "these are my people, those that voted for me to represent them at the 9th National Assembly. We know what the Nigeria position is in the World Poverty Index. COVID-19 Pandemic also heightened the circumstances.

"It is our responsibility as a responsible government to provide for them. Thus, we continuously do these empowerment programmes. This is the 30th edition of it. It is our consistent efforts to transform lives and create wealth.

"We had mentioned this during our manifestos and we are doing it now, consistently.

"As a result, our empowerment programmes are aimed at reducing the negative effects of unemployment and the COVID-19 pandemic.

"These are our avid effort to pull people out of poverty, encourages a larger worldview, and allows them to critically engage with the concerns that define the trajectory of civilisation, employability, and human development..

"As a government, we are committed to building back a better and stronger solution to the problem of the people, which will be resistant to the eventualities of the new normal and personally, I am committed to improving the lives and livelihoods of my constituents through empowerment of my people.

It must not be forgotten that Nigeria, and indeed Africa, is still feeling the pangs of the pandemic. Some call it 'roll-over effect of the COVID-19 pandemic'."

The beneficiaries, in separate addresses with the pressmen, appreciated Senator Oriolowo and assured him of continued support.

Sulaimon Lawal, Acting Chairman of a branch of Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria ( RTEAN), applauded the Senator for the provision of the items given.

In the same lane, the trio of misters Buhari Sarafa, Dauda Kolawole and Oyebade Kolawole who are beneficiaries of tricycles from Ede North local government and members of Tricycles Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) said, "Senator Oriolowo is a good representative. We told him what we were being deprived of and he instantly took it up. This is the result. You can all see it. This will bring a stop to some people's employability. We thank God for the man of honour and integrity that look into our problem. In fact we are indebted to him."

Empowerment materials donated to constituents of Osun West Senatorial District included tricycles, motorcycles, grinding machines, sewing machines, generators, hair dryers among others.

Nairaland / General / How Gov. El- Rufai Exposed Buhari As A Dictator by Jimsonjaat96(m): 11:13pm On Mar 05
A trending set of documents with President Muhammadu Buhari’s signature as the endorsement has triggered outrage as top party members allege that the development has exposed the President as an unrepentant dictator.

The documents endorsed by the president named some persons for key positions in the All Progressive Congress (APC) forthcoming national convention, contrary to the position agitated for by a wide spectrum of the party who expressed their preference for election over selection.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has been named as the person who pressured President Buhari to sign the documents after successfully arguing the need to ensure the Fulani continue to have a hold on power via proxies.

Multiple sources further revealed that the Kaduna State governor strategically leaked the documents with the President’s signature to cement his reputation as the ultimate power broker in the ongoing battle for control of APC.

One of the sources said, “Governor El-Rufai in a bid to prove a point to his colleagues and party members that he is fully in charge has leaked the two sets of documents signed by the president to the public. While he might have scored his point he has also successfully exposed the President as a dictator because the President should not have descended into the arena to the extent of throwing his signature all over the place.

“Don’t forget that El-Rufai had sworn that he will produce the next president of Nigeria on the platform of the APC and that will neither Bola Ahmed Tinubu nor Yemi Osinbajo will emerge. This kind of comment has no place in a democracy, and it is unfortunate that President Buhari is now an enabler of such dictatorial and fascist behavior.

“He is embarking on operation total take-over of the party and sworn that only a candidate loyal to the Fulani will take over power in 2023. It is alarming that he has been able to convince President Buhari along this line.

“First, he succeeded in getting a signed commitment from President Buhari that certain positions must be given to the people he decides. Now he is on another mission to actualize his vow that some first-term governors in the party will not return in 2023. Since he has the President under his control he will use the incoming National Working Committee to frustrate these first-term governors,” the source disclosed.

Meanwhile, there is anxiety among party chieftains in the south as they have become apprehensive that El-Rufai’s pursuit of a Fulani agenda at the expense of an all-inclusive politics could further embolden bandits and kidnappers.

One of them, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the security implications involved, noted that certain hardline Fulani comments made on Twitter by El-Rufai in 2012 is still playing out.

According to him, “Anyone that can trace the security meltdown in the north, especially in Kaduna state will understand that it was never this bad until El-Rufai monetized crime by paying Fulani gunmen that were attacking communities and that in part largely transmuted into the extreme banditry and kidnap for ransom in his state.

“Can you now imagine that this same man is the one now controlling the President and making him sign all manner of things? We have only seen the documents he decided to leak, we don’t know what other things he has made the old man sign. Maybe he has even signed off the whole of Nigeria to El-Rufai.

“The tragedy is not even the signing of party positions to El-Rufai. The tragedy is the Fulani angle. This twisted mindset that Fulani are overlords who dictate the direction the APC must follow and by implication what would happen to Nigeria. This is not about governance or party politics. It has now become a desperate venture to shield those currently terrorizing Nigeria from trial at the end of this administration,” he lamented.
Politics / Aregbesola's Self-displacement: "Open Advisory Note To Ex-governor" Revisited by Jimsonjaat96(m): 1:52pm On Mar 03
Collective wisdom of both the old and the young ones formed the cradle of the Yoruba origin at Ile-Ife, so goes a Yoruba adage. So, as the young grow and socialize via the wisdom of elders, the elderly should not forget their wisdom at the back of their palms by refusing to heed pieces of advice from the young ones.

Exactly a year ago (March 1st, 2021), I wrote an open letter to the former governor titled "Open Advisory Note to Osun ex-governor, Rauf Aregbesola". I considered my humble advice imperative at the time, at least, to allay Ogbeni's apprehension of displacement in the Osun All Progressives Congress party.

However, I got a vicarious exposure to Ogbeni's audacious viral outbursts on February 14, 2022, at Zenabab Hotel, Ilesha, Osun State, where he addressed members of 'The Osun Progressives' (TOP), his self-style-adherent intra-party antagonistic group. I am still none the wiser, as I could not fathom Ogbeni's rationale, in his infinite wisdom, for championing an opposition in his own party, where his leadership, especially in Osun was hitherto well accepted.

As a reminiscence of his viral vituperations at Ilesha, and public intimidation at Osogbo, and of course, the reactionary public condemnation cum vehement criticisms that followed, my humble 'Advisory Note' to the ex-governor is herewith revisited, as fore warned is fore armed!

The 16-paragraph 'Note' extolled Aregbesola's political bravery, valour and comradeship, as it described him not only as "a vibrant Engineer, but also a dogged fighter, democratic fundamentalist, and even a political revolutionist", given the role he played in wrestling power through a serious litigation cum court pronouncement from the former governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) . This description was never sycophantic at all; that was my 'objective' perception of Ogbeni.

Graduating from 'appreciation' School of Thought, I (perhaps erroneously) opined Ogbeni was a don in the same school, thus expected him to be a man of gratitude, and not a wiseacre, over public acceptance of his candidacy in Osun; a governor for eight years, and now a Minister, on the state's slot, despite the fact that he wasn't known in Osun prior to his debut in the state's politics in 2007.

In the 5th paragraph, the 'Advisory Note' states: "Sincerely, you have had it so good! And surely you can have it better and even best, but that's if you take caution and calm down. I like to sincerely advise you sir, to calm down".

However, the recent outbursts and vituperative, disparaging comments about his leaders and especially his successor, obviously show that Ogbeni neither heeded my humble advice, took caution nor 'calmed down'. Liking Ogbeni's impacts in Osun to the indelibility of sculptor's (Onirese) aesthetic designs, according to a Yoruba adage, the 'Advisory Note', in the 6th and 8th paragraphs, states:

"You are a leader in Osun APC. This is a fact, and it's incontrovertible. To allay your fears, as you apprehensively expressed in the media, nobody can displace you in Osun APC, not even Iyiola Omisore, whose recent defection to APC provoked your accusative reactions, nor your successor, governor Adegboyega Oyetola, whose 'silence remains golden".

"However, there's a person who can displace you (Ogbeni), not only in Osun, where your leadership is not in contest, but totally in the APC and of course, from the flocks of the Progressives. The name of that person is Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola. Sir, I'm sure you know him. Of course, it is yourself, who can, and will displace self, like I had earlier advised, if you do not take heed!".

You see! Unless Ogbeni quickly makes amends, he has almost displaced himself, not only in Osun politics, as I had earlier admonished, but also in the APC, as the recent public pronouncement and joyous demonstration of his proclaimed political death in Alimosho-Lagos, his hitherto believed constituency with incontestable political clout, revealed.

Again, I advise the ex-governor and now Minister, to quickly make amends, as he still has a chance to redeem himself and resuscitate his political soul from its obvious demise before his burial. Yes, his misdemeanors are redeeming, not because they are not bad, or highly disappointing, but just because the people Ogbeni is fighting are people of large hearts, who are ingenuously endowed to have envisaged his sins before he comited them and would have forgiven him before he apologized. Engr. Aregbesola knows this fact, and might be reason he's taking them for granted with sheer effrontery.

I perceive Ogbeni as an unrepentant, unapologetic, seemingly-unremorseful and idiosyncratic politician, who hardly accepts defeat and admits errors. I advise him to prove me wrong by eschewing these unwholesome attributes, especially where and when necessary. Conventional wisdom expects him to stop acting as a wiseacre, and jettison his wise-guy and know-all tendencies.

I extend my advice to people who are very close to him to kindly massage his ego and rip the wilderness in him off, so that he would see reasons why he urgently needs to be remorseful and apologetic to the party leaders, intimidated public members, and especially his political benefactors.

Welbeck Electricity Distribution Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to the provision of stable electricity supply which will fix the problem of epileptic power supply in the country.

This disclosure was contained in different statements of the company's representatives today during Exhibition at the Aje Festival in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The representatives who spoke on behalf of Chief Executive officer of Welbeck Electricity Distribution, Afolabi Aiyela said by serving specific communities such as industries, economic hubs, and important services, independent power producers like Welbeck were filling a critical niche in the electricity industry.

"The role of independent power producers (IPPs) like Welbeck Electricity Distribution allows the power sector reform aims to be realized.

"From its inception, Welbeck had successfully provided over six IPPs for specific communities in Lagos and across the country.

"We're built to address the needs of individual areas, such as factories, commercial hubs, and estates, that might otherwise struggle with the national grid's unreliability.

"For example, at Welbeck, we serve a number of important institutions across the country, and you'll be surprised to see that our rates are significantly lower than those offered by alternative energy suppliers", Aiyela disclosed.

Annual Aje Festival, alias Aje Heritage Economic Summit, is hosted by Princess (Dr.) Toyin Kolade, lyalaje Oodua.

She hosts it on behalf of the House of Oodua under the Arole Odùduwà, Olofin Adimula Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II).

Aje Festival 2022, according to Dr. Kolade is a 4-day event festival which would hold in phases, will begin with the Aje Heritage & Economic Summit slated to hold at the Ojaja Arena located inside the Ife Grand Resort in Ile-Ife where Aje Festival Exhibition will also be unveiled to run daily for 4 days

This would be from the 25th to 28th of February, 2022.

Nigeria's economic growth and prosperity could be accelerated if its leaders followed the traditional road and returned to the cradle of the world's first trade and commerce, according to Yoruba mythology.

This year's Aje Festival was celebrated with prayers for Nigeria's economic prosperity in the Igbo Mekun market in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun state.

Aje festival is one of the many festivals reinvigorated by Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi since he ascended the throne of his forefathers.

According to Yoruba mythology, Aje is the goddess that brings fortunes, wealthy and economic prosperity to human beings.

This is why till today, the Yorubas always wish, hope and pray to encounter Aje, the goddess of economic prosperity in their commercial endeavours.

Nairaland / General / Poor Attention, Facilities Bane Of Grassroot Sports Development - Prof. Adedoyin by Jimsonjaat96(m): 6:06pm On Feb 23
Professor of Cardiopulmonary Respiratory Physiotherapy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Professor Rufus Adedoyin has attributed challenges bedeviling grassroot sports development to poor attention and lack of facilities on the part of the government and private individuals.

Speaking on Wednesday during the Stakeholders' Forum, a monthly Interview program of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State Chapter, Prof. Adedoyin said this has also led to the poor performance of Nigeria age grade teams and athletes at the intercontinental and international competitions.

He said: "The challenges in the sports sector will be far from over if we fail to go back to the grassroots where there are budding talents. It is unfortunate that there are no quality programs from the government for primary schools sports again as it used to be whereas these are platforms for identifying budding talents that can be nurtured to stardom.

"In most schools, there are no Physical and Health Education teacher, there is no principal or headmaster's cup, most schools do not have football pitch or training equipment. Without this, there is no way a country can make headway."

Prof. Adedoyin also called on government not to approve private schools that do not have sports ground and facilities.

"All work no play make Jack a dull boy. Talents in children are best discovered at tender age through participation in sporting activities with their peers. This is why all schools should be mandated to have a training ground where all pupils can engage in any game of their choice. Some private schools nowadays do not have sports ground and I advise the government not no approve such schools.

"It is when pupils and students participate in competitions that they will be able to showcase their talents to the world. This is why principal/headmaster's cups, inter-house athletic competition and many more should be revived," the sports enthusiast added.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman Osun SWAN, Timothy Agbor who was represented by the Association's Treasurer, Seyi Akanni lauded Professor Adedoyin for his annual Peace Soccer Competition in Ile-Ife which according to him, has been a means of enhancing peaceful coexistence between people of Ile-Ife and Modakeke among other towns.

They have been part of the driving force in rendering rural health services where they have made great impact and also in HIRD and your patriotic contributions in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic", Dare said.

He specially commended the leading roles of Corps Members in the production and distribution of non-pharmaceuticals materials to Nigerians at the outset of COVID-19 pandemic.

He urged them to keep up the good work, strive and justify the confidence reposed in them by the Nigerian people.

The Minister promised that the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development would continue to support the noble initiatives brought forward for the overall success of the NYSC Scheme.

NYSC Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim said the official flag-off was a landmark achievement and a watershed in the annals of the National Youth Service Corps.

He said a robust and sustainable health care system for Corps Members had always been of paramount importance to successive Managements of the Scheme, adding that their enrolment would be a big morale booster for them.

"Today's event is the culmination of the Presidential directive issued in 2016, which arose as a result of the unfortunate deaths of three Corps Members deployed to Kano, Zamfara and Bayelsa States Orientation Camps.

The loss of any Corps Member as it were, provokes sadness in us, leaving the Scheme highly diminished.

Corps Members, who represent the most critical part of our demography-the youths, are the leaders and builders of tomorrow.

Consequently, any government policy aimed at uplifting this group is akin to building the future of our dear country, Nigeria", he said.

General Ibrahim added that "it is fulfilling that the enrolment of Corps Members into the Health Insurance Scheme is in line with the policy thrust" of his administration bordering on the improvement of welfare and security of Corps Members and Staff.

"This health initiative, known as NYSC Group Individual Family Social Health Insurance Programme, (GIFSHIP) has been designed as a holistic health insurance scheme, covering the periods of Pre-Orientation, that is, as soon as a Prospective Corps Member picks up Call-up Letter, which is the instrument that qualifies him/her for admittance into National Service, until the end of his/her terminal leave, which is three weeks after disengagement from Service", the DG said.

General lbrahim stated further that for effective implementation of the scheme, six Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOS) had been carefully selected after a competitive process for each of the six geo-political zones to drive the process.

He said in order to ensure a seamless arrangement devoid of encumbrances, Corps Members were expected to register under Health Care Practitioners in their localities, while he appealed to both the HMOs and Health Care Providers to "approach this insurance scheme with the highest degree of responsibility and integrity."

The Director-General added that NYSC Management would leave no stone unturned in order to ensure that all, who have roles to play in the initiative carry them out with patriotic zeal so as to meet the expectations of Government.

He added that the Scheme has designed a mechanism for strict monitoring of the HMOs in concert with the NHIS Office to guard against service failure.

"We will ensure that the operations of the health scheme are consistent with the philosophy behind the initiation of this wonderful health insurance scheme by Government.

I would like to assure that the NYSC and NHIS Management will also not relent in providing the necessary supervision and enabling environment while also monitoring and ensuring seamless operations of the health scheme.

Having come this far, we will not hesitate to take appropriate decisive actions against any individual or institution whenever there is any noticeable infractions and gaps in the implementation of this initiative", Ibrahim warned.

The DG enjoined all Corps Members nationwide to avail themselves of the unique opportunity provided by the NHIS to access qualitative health care at no cost, while he also enjoined them to reciprocate the gesture by being conscientious in the discharge of their duties to their fatherland.

Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim during the programme reiterated his call for the establishment of NYSC Trust Fund which has passed the second reading at the National Assembly.

He said the fund when established, would reduce dependence on government for funding the Scheme, as well as provide jobs for millions of Nigerian youths through the provision of start-up capitals to Corps Members at the end of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship training they went through during the service year. The Fund would drastically curb youth restiveness as well as other forms of criminality in the country according to the DG.

The Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme, Professor Mohammed Nasir Gambo said that the agency was saddled with the execution of Presidential mandate of attaining universal health coverage for all Nigerians in line with the declaration of sustainable development goals.

He said that the NHIS/NYSC initiative was in the right direction because of its significant contribution to the well-being of Corps Members nationwide.

"It is worthy to note that investment in the welfare and wellbeing of young people is one of the most critical things that we can do as a responsible nation.

It is our patriotic duty as individuals and organisations to ensure that we make education, employment and quality healthcare available, accessible and affordable", he said.

Professor Sambo appealed to Health Maintenance Organisations and Healthcare Providers to work within the operational guidelines of the NHIS and also ensure that no Corps Member is left unattended to.

The Minister for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire was represented by the Director, Public Health in the Ministry, DrAlex-Okoh MO.

Nairaland / General / Historical Antecedent Of Alageere Of Ago-are In Oyo State by Jimsonjaat96(m): 8:44am On Jan 30
Historical records shows that ODUNTAN is the progenitor of Alageere Chieftaincy Family. He hailed from Offa town in the present day Kwara State. He was a Prince of Olofa Royal Family and contested for the Olofa Royal stool, his unsuccessful bid to ascend the throne of Olofa consequently trigged his movement out of Offa town to westward after consulting IFA (Oracle) who ordered him to migrate out of Offa with his Family and settle at Sunset where one great bird called "AGBIGBO" makes Sound. He contested with Bamgbola-Aremu (8th Olofa) of Anilelerin ruling house in 1786. When he was leaving Offa, he did not leave his powerful juju Staff called AGANRAN behind.
On his way to the place, Prince ODUNTAN was first settled at Oyo Ile
by "Alaafin Aoole" ,he and his people were given a warm reception during their brief stay at AGBODEFUN compound.
Prince ODUNTAN, the custodian of Traditional staff "AGANRAN" was finally settled on the order of Alaafin of Oyo at the ILUKU HILL with the help of his powerful Traditional staff ( AGANRAN is his indicator of Direction to go),he was the first to settle at ILUKU HILL.
At ILUKU HILL,he was surrounded by many settlement and communities such as the Agbonsiko(The present Gbojaye and Komu ), the Gbaagba(The present Okaka Town) , the Ito and the Obatala(Sando).
ODUNTAN got the wind of the belligerence of the Sokoto and Dahomey invaders , in order to ensure the safety and protection of his people, he fortified his domain with juju thread aided by his powerful juju called AGANRAN,hence the invaders could not reach his place of abode,ILUKU HILL. During the middle of the invasion of the area, Several settlements and communities [i.e Agbonsiko, Gbaagba,Obatala(Sando) and Ito] fled and sought refuge, under the Ageere People at ILUKU hill who warmly received and accommodated them, and they all co-existed and regarded him as their head and landlord.
After the fall of Iluku hill, the descendants of Alageere Oduntan (The first Alageere), some of them settled at Ofiki and others settled at Ago Opopo(the present Ago-Are). [No wonder Ago Are and Ofiki share the same historical records] for the sake of emphasis, the present Ago Are was originally called and knows as Ago-Opopo and composed of three distinct separate and automonous quarters, These are (I)Ageere under the leadership of Alageere (ii)Sando under the leadership of Aare Sando (III) Ito under the leadership of Baale Ito. However, it was during the reign of Aare Lakanla(Sando) that brought a new historical twist to the nomenclature of the town, Ago- Opopo thereafter became Ago-Are. Aare Lakanla's Mother was a daughter of Alapiini Oyo family,a member of the powerful oyomesi, the traditional cabinet of Oyo Empire. Aare Lakanla used the connection of his maternal uncle the Alapiini to warm himself to the embrace of the Alaafin. He sought and got the Alaafin to rename Ago-Opopo as Ago-Are.
Nairaland / General / Nigerian Institutions Need Serious Syllabus Review – Fmr FEDPOFFA Rector by Jimsonjaat96(m): 2:01pm On Jan 25
A former Rector of The Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara, Dr Lateef Olatunji has said the syllabus of Nigerian Higher Institutions requires immediate review to meet international standards.

Olatunji whose tenure as the Rector of The Federal Polytechnic Offa elapsed on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, asked the Nigerian government to review the current syllabus of Higher Institutions in the country.

Speaking on 'Real Talk', a programme anchored by Mr. Oluwasegun Taiwo on Ọkin 105.7 FM in Kwara State, the former rector said it is always easy for anyone who studied abroad to fit into the Nigerian system but worries that Nigerian graduates lag behind in many aspects.

He said, “The level of education generally is low, the syllabuses at all our tertiary institutions are due for serious review. The teaching in foreign tertiary institutions bends towards practical orientation, that is why when they come in from abroad they fit in easily.”

Speaking on the dichotomy between University and Polytechnic in Nigeria, Dr Olatunji discussed the need for the government to remove the paradox, saying it’s needless.

He argued that polytechnic and Universities serve different purposes. “Polytechnic is mainly for practical knowledge to solve scientific problems and Universities are based on theoretical aspects. So why the dichotomy. If you go back to the drawing and seek the reason why the institutions were established there will be no parity.

“The government needs to come in to firstly remove the dichotomy. Even if the government removed the dichotomy nobody will want to distinguish between the HND and the BSC holder. The government has the final say.”

Nairaland / General / Olaiya Flyover: Journalist Advises Osun Govt On Navigation Signs by Jimsonjaat96(m): 7:44pm On Jan 15
An Osun-based journalist, Mr. Sola Isola has advised Gboyega Oyetola-led administration of Osun State to make provisions for directional phenomenal that will guide users on how to navigate through the Olaiya Flyover Bridge which is nearing completion.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Isola addresses the Osun State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Honourable Omowaiye Oluremi, that "it is very pertinent at this crucial time that we release a guideline that shows motorists and residents of Osun how to navigate their way when Olaiya Flyover is commissioned, which I hope will be in the next few days.

"I assume their will be signs on the bridge itself, so I wouldn't want to preempt, since it hasn't been unveiled.

"Perhaps announce it on Radio and television, how each person coming from every road that leads to the flyover will navigate the flyover to link their destination. We can even have a 3D video presentation that shows the explanation sponsored as an advert on Facebook," he partly wrote.

Mr. Isola expressed his concern that it would be a dangerous situation to assume that every road user would understand how to navigate the bridge. He went ahead to cite a situation some people, who allegedly belong to the opposition party were saying some of the road is blocked. This, Mr. Sola said "practically indicated ignorance on their part."

"I also forsee a situation where our state traffic wardens (Omo Aregbe) will want to leverage on ignorance of motorists to make money for themselves more than the state, so I want to advise that we announce publicly that one month from after the commissioning, no Omo Aregbe must arrest anybody at the flyover, they should rather guide motorists on the right path to follow.

"I hope this piece is taken without prejudice or sentiment." He said.

He ended the post with a reminder that "today (Saturday) makes it 332 days since the flyover construction started."

It is a daily routine for the journalist to make post daily on the situational level of Flyover Bridge, his most recent said: "331days (10 months, 28 days) Since Olaiya Flyover Construction Started... Extra day 61".

Nairaland / General / Over N550m Paid, Others Will Be Settled Soon - TITAN FARMS CEO by Jimsonjaat96(m): 12:04am On Jan 13
Titan Farms Multibusiness Limited has refuted the claim that its has stopped paying its investors for a period of time.

Speaking during an interview session with journalists on Wednesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Center, Iyaganku Ibadan, the CEO and founder of Titan Farms Multibusiness Limited, Aare Gbenga Eyiolawi, said his company has in fact paid over five hundred and fifty million to their investors between the month of July that the payment issues started through December 2021.

Aare Eyiolawi, who was duly represented by Mrs. Ayoola Olaniyi, who doubles as the company Public Relationship Officer (PRO) and Customers Relationship Manager (CRM), stated that that though there were insinuations in some quarters that the company suspended investment offers because it wanted to made away with investors’ money, stating that the reasons behind the suspension were totally different.

Mrs. Ayoola stated that the company has stopped taking investment when Security and Exchange Commission (SEC)'s deadline for registration got due and the company has not met the requirements for registration at the time, hence a letter was also sent to SEC to notify them the company is aeare of the deadline and terms of registration.

"Payment of investors has never stopped as well as settlement of investors with considerations other than cash. The process may have been slow but has remained steady over time, and, we intend to continue and even scale up the payment process till all outstanding to investors are settled.

"Regarding the date, as it stands, we have disappointed so many people by giving dates since we cannot pay/settle everyone at the same time. Some of these dates failed not because we intend for them to, but the agitations from investors that most times disrupt business and the rumors damaging the brand image.

"Also, these dates failed because certain expectations on which the dates were fixed failed. We cannot be giving excuses why a date failed, rather we take responsibility for them and see how to redeem the disappointment and business as well," she partly said.

The Management said investors' roles can not only mitigate but ameliorate the current situation as pertain to the company's image. Hence investors are asked to stop cyberbully, allow company to do business in peace without the fear of attacks from investors or third parties, and blackmail allegedly orchestrated by some people by posting damaging posts on social media and using that to request for money.

"In fact, it only makes things harder because you don’t expect people to do business with a firm with a bad reputation and if we don’t do business, how do we pay? Stopping this will help keep the staff members, their families, and loved ones from harm while they focus on the recovery process of the company."

Titan Farms Management solicits for continued support, patience and understanding on the investors during this trying time.
Nairaland / General / Stewardship Of Dr. Lateef Olatunji, The 4th Rector Of FEDPOFFA by Jimsonjaat96(m): 8:28am On Jan 11
THE long awaited moment; the moment the Fourth Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Dr. Lateef Ademola Olatunji will always remember in his life has come: the day he ceases to be the number one citizen of the institution. He will be on his way to occupy the space history has created for him to live. Similarly, he will need to find out what more life has to offer him, not from anybody, but from the womb of time.

FROM the outset, he purified the impressions people held against what development means, what it connotes and denotes. He defiled the odds against stagnancy. He chose to move the institution forward. He didn't set out to please individuals or caucus, he had his mind set out on the projects and goals that would ingrained him in the lives of those who believed in his administration, to be criticized by those who think he should feed their nest and to those who believe he is a mortal that cannot but imperfect in certain area of life.

AS part of the traits of those who made remarkable impacts, he didn't satisfy the pulse and purse of many who believe in the crumbs of office as the purposes of its occupation. He did his best. It is this set of bests that requires attention and mentions.

WITH strong intent from the outset, his Vision and Mission Statements for the institution were clear like early morning water fetched at the river. They were not only ingrained in his body chemistry, he lives by them and adheres to the principles that make dreams become realities. To be succinct, he has been able to shift the position of the institution from among the best to one of the most preferred institutions in course of studies in Nigerian polytechnics, like: Mass Communication, Library and Information Science, Science Laboratory Technology, among others.

THERE is no need to waste words, it is obvious and devoid of oblivious context that Dr. Olatunji has been able to shift the paradigm in terms of improvement on the available structures and infrastructures. It must be said that in terms of infrastructural development, he has been able to move the institution from the premise of the old structures to the modern, classed and befitting administrative and academic buildings. This was attainable through prompt utilisation of available funds and implementations of the goals of his administration. That's a meaningful presence.

NEVERTHELESS, he is aware that academic setting is like Oliver Twist - that always asks for more. Based on this impression, he did not only improve the values and standards of the various courses being studied at the Federal Polytechnic Offa, but, his administration took a step further to introduced new courses like: Public Administratio, Art and Design, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Agricultural Technology, Agricultural Engineering, Geological Technology, Hospitality Management, Meteorological Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering and Petroleum Resources Engineering. Not done, his milk of human compassion remains intact and functioning, through which his administration is ably considerate and deems it appropriate to facilitate the recruitments of teaching and non-teaching staff. The Federal Polytechnic Offa has bagged various awards and recognitions for academic excellence.

A TREE cannot make a forest, Dr. Olatunji is not only fortunate to have a crop of visionary team, goal oriented and focused lieutenants as his management team, he was privileged to be alive to aspire for the position of Rector when he did. He is grateful for such rare grace. Many people with dreams and visions don't know when to set forth at dawn.

FROM the foregoing, it is inevitable to say that he is like a father figure to many, while his tenure lasts. The people of Offa and its immediate communities cannot but be grateful for the opportunity granted to one of their illustrious sons, for the privilege to see the beginning and the end of his administration in good health and success stories. His time was dominated by peace and tranquility. The little perforations and punctured times came to weigh the size and length of his administration's preparedness for distractions. His administration survived the challenging times.

Down the historical lane, Lateef Ademola Olatunji, PhD., was born on 2nd December 1963 into the Olugbense ruling house of Offa, Kwara State. Instead, he aspires to carve a niche for himself. He chose to write his name in gold and sold himself positively into the abyss of history where those who made change possible are not forgotten.

HIS CONSISTENCY in terms of sustained media and human relations, humbleness and hospitality, gives credence to his noble art and actions that ease life for others. He listens with absolute attention, he knows how to manage people and situations. He knows himself. He knows and understands the fragility of life that life is a flux. Life changes in order to maintain balance. He understands that every position is a test of character!

AS PART of the traits of those who made impacts, he aspires to carve a niche for himself positively through the public service delivery - where history does not forget individuals. Dr. Ademola Olatunji actually deserves meaningful conclusion of his administration's tenure. A series of congratulations in their droves cannot be sufficient! Individuals need to ask themselves what they are doing with their position. Your life cannot be separated from what you do.

The Federal Polytechnic Offa is larger than any mortal to fulfill its demands in a day or set of years. You can only be given space to divulge what you have to offer. Nothing is permanent or cast in stones. The baton no longer stays with him. His stewardship is his identity engraved on the baton his tenure has placed on the table for the next Rector. The baton and the new dawn of duties belongs to someone else, henceforth!

Education / OGSOSA 13/14 Set Holds Annual General Meeting, Discusses Matter Arising by Jimsonjaat96(m): 2:07pm On Jan 03
Offa Grammar School Old Students Association, 2013/2014 set, as per its custom, hosted annual general meeting. The annual general meeting was held on 1st of January, 2022, at Oyeleke Hall.

Abdulsamad Don, who moderated the meeting, opened the floor with gratitude to God Almighty and recognized members present. He also commended the members' love and reiterated the reunion's importance. Opening prayers were said by Bello Idris before Secretary Labeeb read the minutes of the last meeting.

From the minutes of the last meeting, which was recorded in the previous year, Secretary Labeeb revealed information concerning wedding gifts cancellation to members getting married due to issues of invitation by some parties while some parties don't use to invite the association and they would feel sidelined. He also talked about members' monthly contributions and how the association plans to use them for its 10th anniversary. He unveiled the amount raised so far from last year by the association’s members via their monthly contributions.

Vice President Jamiu Aro, while discussing salient issues, also reiterated the fact that members need to be turning up for urgent matters in the association's WhatsApp platform and should be ready to volunteer.

The matter of one of the members of the association was also discussed. The association had solicited funds for solving the problem of the member concerned. Some members had raised suggestions that he wanted to go to school. Some members visited his mother for enquiry. After noticing that part of the problem is financial or “psychological” related issues, the association started a humanitarian service.

Foodstuff, clothes, a phone, and other things were bought. However, after a series of visits by some of the association’s members, they noticed the problem persisted despite pushing for his education. The association moved for Rukiya recitation being championed by one member but all to no avail.

There was still another contribution on the issue, though tiring. Still, some members, together with excos, suggested the member’s mother should be supported in terms of business so she can cater for him as the association plays its part. Members raised suggestions on the kinds of business that should be set up for the member’s mother before finally buying a grinding machine and other equipment.

Apart from the association's main fund, which is separate and had scaled over #100,000, the fundraised for the member concerned is total #184,000, with #152,500 spent, and the remaining balance is #31,500. However, the member’s issue would be taken externally for further help needed, resolved at the meeting.

On the issue of webinars being hosted by the association to equip the members, a suggestion was raised by Hammed Sulaiman that it should be done once a month and that the speakers invited should follow the trend, and there should be compensation. The suggestion was supported by Bello Idris. Oyewo, however, was of contrary opinion on the trending issues. Abdulrazaq raised Sunday as a befitting day to be running the webinar, but Saturday night was contended by Secretary Labeeb.

Jimoh Taofeek talked about entitlement and updates on what the association fund is being used for. He opined that it would give a sense of responsibility and priority to members. Hammed Sulaiman raised the issue of celebrating some highest donors in monthly contributions, but Don Samad contended that some members like not to be mentioned.

Uthman Wolf urged excos that they should extend their hands to members. At the same time, Ramat demanded that she is looking forward to having entertaining annual meetings and also stated the association should do something tangible to alma mater, which they would always be proud of in the future.

However, Sikiru, another member, raised the issue of electing excos via forms application. Lawal Rofiat also spoke on working in preparation for the association's official meeting, and Olamilekan urged excos to continue their amazing work and keep members updated.

During the dusk of the meeting, it appeared that there would be a need to reshuffle the excos, and an emergency meeting was held thereafter. Excos agreed to update members on-the-go about the meeting.

The annual general meeting ended in grand style as members reconnected, shared contacts, and networked with each other after taking grand pictures.
