‘The NADECO Story,’ The Book A Whole Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka Vouched For

TITLE: The NADECO Story

AUTHOR: Ayo Opadokun

PAGES: 509

PUBLISHER: Bonafidea Nigeria Limited, Lagos, Nigeria

Ayo Opadokun, the acclaimed former General Secretary of the Yoruba Pan-Socio-Political group, Afenifere and General Secretary of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) has gone public with the last of his trilogy on contemporary Nigerian history, The NADECO Story. Coming on the heels of two others, this book maintains its uniqueness in several dimensions.

Take its launch day, for example. Chairman of the occasion was no less a personality than the Nobel Laureate himself, Professor Wole Soyinka. Yes, Soyinka showed up –and in person too! Like the blue moon, this doyen of African literature and historical pillar does not show up at just ANY event. But of course, deep will call to deep. And not only did he chair the event, Soyinka publicly endorsed the writing of Opadokun as objective, unquestionable and authentic contemporary history that accurately captured the mood, the time and the facts of which the Author wrote.

Thus Soyinka captured the soul of Opadokun’s latest work. Opadokun presents the NADECO story in a language that is simple yet sublime: Grand without arrogance. Forceful without aggression. Convincing yet unobtrusive. In it, the Author demonstrates the erudition of a Statesman and the mass appeal of a common cause.

One key element of the book is the painstakingness. Did Opadokun pour detail into this work? He sure did! The amount of research is daunting. Just like he did with The Gun Hegemony (you must read that too), Opadokun digs up documents upon documents upon documents about local and international resolutions from meetings, conferences and conventions relating to, affecting and concerning Nigeria at local and international forums as they related to June 12. Opadokun brings together resolutions from virtually all over the world, with real-life signatories. He shows that our current democracy did not come on a platter of gold (a fact unfortunately discountenanced by the prodigal, licentious and amoral conduct of the current politicians), and Opadokun’s book will not allow us forget. The price was paid in loss, fear, daringness, brokenness, blood, exile and unimaginable sacrifice. Rich men forgot their affluence. Husbands forsook their wives’ beds. Officers lost careers. The poor who had no silver to give gave their limbs and their lives in marches that dared the guns of soldiers and police.

Committed Nigerians went to prison in pursuit of this democracy. Uncountable families suffered as breadwinners fled from Abacha’s agents of gallows and graves. Many paid the supreme price. Kudirat Abiola. Alfred Rewane. Alex Ibru. Toyin Onagoruwa. These were all mowed down by Abacha’s killer squad.

From the multimedia design of its front cover (laminated, embossed and gold-foiled) to the authoritative contents, this 509-page book printed on white bond paper deserves its weight in gold. The cover spots the photo-busts of 13 eminent Nigerians. All of them, except one, are deceased. MKO Abiola is surrounded by Adekunle Ajasin and Anthony Enahoro to the top. To the right of MKO’s picture are those of Dan Suleiman, Beko Ransome-Kuti and Alfred Rewane. Depicted below Abiola are his wife Kudirat and Ndubuisi Kanu. To the West of him are Arthur Nwankwo, Abraham Adesanya and the only living one of the 13, Nigeria’s former Military Vice President, Ebitu Ukiwe.

The cover’s photographic montage could easily form a synopsis for the subject and focus of the entire book. Mischievous revisionists have taken upon themselves the otiose, vain and vainglorious labour of painting the NADECO and June 12 struggle as an ethnic struggle by the Yoruba for the actualisation of the mandate of a Yoruba man, Abiola. But the cover of Opadokun’s book tells a different story. The struggle actually exploded as a rainbow coalition project invested in by all elements of Nigeria –Yoruba, Hausa-Fulani, Igbo, as well as Northern Minorities and Southern Minorities. Even more than that, the sweat and blood of civilians mixed with those of the Military cadre to forge and drive the struggle.

Never in this country’s history had there been one voice, one common arrowhead, for nationhood, no; it didn’t happen even during the struggle for Independence. NADECO achieved that for the very first time. It weaved together the disparate strands of all Nigeria’s tribes into one strong force the world could not ignore.

With the advantage of retrospection or benefit of hindsight, Opadokun asks one crucial question that not a few Nigerians have ruminated over if not actually verbalised. Should Abiola have been left within the grasp of his enemy in the heat of that struggle? Could the struggle have been handled in another way that would have guaranteed the survival of Abiola? The Author puts it this way:

“Had we been too stubborn or too intransigent to hear? Well, maybe. But it is not easy to dismiss our doggedness in such adjectives. The nation's pro-democratic activists –especially a rainbow platform like NADECO– projected that for the credibility of Abiola and their own credibility, they must maintain a consistent resolution not to compromise with evil. Changing midstream, especially in the context of the unquantifiable sacrifices we had made, especially when we thought ourselves so close to our goal, could reverse Abiola's political fortunes and jeopardise our democratic struggle.

“Perhaps, if we had been a little more discerning, if we had undertaken a more studious look at the vague handwriting on the wall, if we had dispassionately interpreted the body language of key international personalities, and if we had taken a more objective look at the suggestions of those various diplomats (who often offered those suggestions informally), we could have reviewed and re-planned our stand: Perhaps. Maybe if we had been diligent enough to think through the many counsels offered to us, we would have been in the position to refocus our options. But we never imagined that anything short of Abiola's full mandate could restore credibility to the ballot-box and satisfy our quest for democracy in Nigeria. We held it as a sine qua non, an irreducible minimum, for re-entrenching the Sovereignty of the people. We thought that in M.K.O. Abiola, in his struggle, and in his story, Africa's most populous nation had found her own Nelson Mandela. In our mind's eye, we had always seen Abiola moving from the prison to the palace, from his own freedom jail to Aso Rock. But we never knew our champion could fall in battle. We never considered that Abiola could be made to pay the supreme price for his democratic fervour -no, not in our wildest nightmares.”

Interestingly, with the benefit of hindsight, the Author also answers other salient questions. Why did the Yoruba race not embrace General Ibrahim Babangida’s compensatory enthronement of Chief Ernest Shonekan as head of the Interim National Government (ING) for the loss of Abiola’s mandate? If a Yoruba man lost democratically, why did the Yoruba race not just rally round another Yoruba Head of State as replacement instead of flowing along with Abacha’s plan to overthrow the Shonekan contraption? Also, why did Yoruba leaders fight for General Oladipo Diya (Chief of General Staff, who had spent the early days of the Abacha regime insulting them while defiantly organising an alternative stream of Yoruba leadership)? Instead of allowing the pompous officer to stew in his juice when he was caught in the mousetrap of what later became known as the “phantom coup” against Abacha, Afenifere and NADECO fought to save General Diya’s life. Why?

The book provides answers to such and other historical interrogations.

It does even more. Silhouetted against today’s dissonant politics of this country, the book paints an almost unbelievable utopia of Nigeria; a Nigeria where though tribe and tongue may differ, its disparate nationalities can jointly struggle to achieve one goal with one determination. Just like the June 12 election whose fruit it sought to safeguard, NADECO as a group showed that Nigeria’s diverse tribes are capable of finding a common ground and a common faith and push in one common direction for the common good of the country.

Back to the public presentation of the book on Wednesday at the MUSON Centre, Lagos: Soyinka serenaded the work and the Author.

“I must congratulate Ayo for doing an unbelievably invaluable job, giving this gift to the community and to the world at large. I have had occasion to describe Nigeria as a republic of liars. This is one instance where I would say the nation is redeemed from that reputation of permanent lying. Every page of this book, which I read carefully, rings of truth, which one can testify to personally and which carries an aura of authenticity because of the way it is narrated. It is spoken, written and documented not just from physical participation, but from research and records. Every page of it rings true.”

Can anyone give Opadokun’s book a better testimonial than this one by the Nobel Laureate Soyinka himself?

PoliticsOPC Spits Fire Over Kwara Killings, Wants Perpetrators Shot On Sighting by JKisOK(op): 5:39pm On Feb 10
Yoruba socio-cultural group, the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), has described the recent killing of over 178 citizens in Kwara State as heart-breaking and provocative, insisting that the jihadist terrorists who committed the dastardly crime must be hunted down and shot on the spot by security agents.

Stating the organisation’s position in a Press Release on Tuesday, Chairman of Dr. Frederick Fasehun’s OPC Caretaker Committee, Alhaji Kasimu Lawal, urged the governors of the 10 Yoruba-speaking states to immediately declare a state of emergency over the escalating insecurity in the zone.

Lawal said that the only way to redress last week’s killings in Kwara State communities was nothing less than the apprehending, prosecuting and execution of the killers.

“Such coldblooded killers do not deserve a second chance. These killers should be shot on sight to give them a dose of their own medicine and serve as a deterrent to others planning to follow in their evil footsteps. These killers have committed a wicked crime against God and against humanity and they must be made to suffer supreme punishment,” Lawal said.

The OPC Caretaker Chairman urged the 10 governors of the South-West and states with Yoruba-speaking indigenes to desist from politicising the prevailing insecurity and instead collaborate to proffer and procure rapid solutions.

“Governors of the 10 Yoruba-speaking states must immediately declare a state of emergency on security to reflect the gravity of the situation. With these rampaging terrorists, bandits, jihadists and their activities, all Nigerians face an existential threat; and all hands must be mobilised to identify, locate and neutralise these evil monsters,” Lawal said.

The organisation urged the Federal Government, the Kwara State Government and the security agencies to declare a massive manhunt to locate and apprehend the killers.

“Those who committed this dastardly act are not spirits. All available resources must be mobilised to get these killers hunted down, arrested, prosecuted and annihilated,” Lawal said.

Declaring its readiness to defend Yoruba land and people, OPC warned that it would not allow terrorists to fester and overwhelm the South-West as they have unfortunately succeeded in doing in the North.

“We shall not cede the land of our birth to Fulani herdsmen and Islamist Jihadists,” Lawal said. “We will defend ourselves and will not fold our hands while foreigners invade our lands, kidnapping, raping, pillaging and killing at will.

“Whatever criminalities bandits, jihadists and terrorists have perpetrated in the North should remain in the North because we Yoruba people will not tolerate such in our homelands.

“Nigerians wonder why the authorities continue to pamper these hoodlums. Why are the agencies not arresting anyone found roaming around with AK-47 assault rifles? Instead the security agencies who are supposed to defend the lives and assets of our people choose to go after those who muster the courage to defend themselves.

“We will not seek nor wait for the permission of anyone to defend ourselves with everything at our disposal. As we have done in the past, OPC shall do everything to defend our land and people.”

The group urged the Nigerian police, security agencies and the Armed Forces to be proactive rather than reactionary in tackling non-state actors troubling the country.

According to OPC, the heightened insecurity appeared to be a ploy deliberately targeted at undermining the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

FamilyMelinda Gates Reacts To Ex-Husband's Mention In Epstein Files by JKisOK(op): 7:55am On Feb 05
Billionaire philanthropist Melinda Gates has said her ex-husband, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, being named in new files relating to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein dredged up "painful times in my marriage".

She told an NPR podcast she felt "unbelievable sadness", and that "whatever questions remain" needed to be answered by those named in the records, including her ex-husband.

"I am so happy to be away from all the muck," she said. The couple divorced in 2021.

Records released by the US justice department include an allegation by Epstein that Bill Gates caught a sexually transmitted disease. Gates's spokesperson has called the claim "absolutely absurd".

Bill Gates has not been accused of wrongdoing by any of Epstein's victims, and the appearance of his name in the files does not imply criminal activity of any kind.

In a statement to the BBC, a spokesperson for Bill Gates said the Microsoft co-founder had never attended parties with the late financier and had no involvement in illegal activities associated with Epstein.

"While Mr Gates acknowledges that meeting with Epstein was a serious error in judgment, he unequivocally denies any improper conduct related to Epstein and the horrible activities in which Epstein was involved," the statement said.

The billionaire broke his silence on the release of files by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) in an interview with 9News in Australia this week.

He said the interactions with Epstein were limited to dinners and that he did not visit Epstein's island.

"Every minute I spent with him I regret and I apologise that I did that," Gates added.

In the interview with NPR's Wild Card podcast, Melinda French Gates said: "For me, it's personally hard whenever those details come up, right? Because it brings back memories of some very, very painful times in my marriage."

She added: "Whatever questions remain there of what - I can't even begin to know all of it - those questions are for those people and for even my ex-husband. They need to answer to those things, not me."

US media have reported that before their separation - which followed 27 years of marriage - Melinda French Gates had been upset about her husband's association with Epstein. After their split was announced, Bill Gates acknowledged having had an affair with a Microsoft employee in 2019.

The allegations about Bill Gates were included in more than three million documents released last week by the justice department.

Two emails from 18 July 2013 appear to have been drafted by Epstein, but it is unclear if they were ever sent to Gates.

Both were sent from Epstein's email account and back to the same account, while no email account associated with Gates is visible and both emails are unsigned.

One email is written as a resignation letter from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and complains about having had to procure medicine for Bill "to deal with the consequences of sex with Russian girls".

The other, which begins "dear Bill", complains about Bill Gates having ended a friendship and makes more claims about Bill Gates having tried to cover up a sexually transmitted infection, including from his then-wife, Melinda.

In his interview with Australian media, Bill Gates added that the email was never sent and the contents of it were "false".

Over the years, Bill Gates and his representatives have downplayed his connection with Epstein. He has previously said they only had "several dinners" to discuss a philanthropy project that did not happen.

After the latest allegations, a spokesperson for Bill Gates said: "The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein's frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame."

They added: "These claims – from a proven, disgruntled liar – are absolutely absurd and completely false."

Many of the documents, emails and photos included in the millions of files released by the justice department last week shed light on Epstein's vast network of celebrities, business chiefs and world leaders - contacts that persisted in some cases even after his 2008 conviction for soliciting sex from a 14-year-old girl.

Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial in a sex-trafficking case.

PoliticsThe Gun Hegemony’ By Ayo Opadokun: An Unusual Chronicle About Nigerian Military by JKisOK(op): 12:41pm On Jan 26
BOOK REVIEW

BOOK: The Gun Hegemony

AUTHOR: Ayo Opadokun

PUBLISHER/YEAR: Bonafidea Nigeria Limited, Lagos, Nigeria –2025

PAGES: 427

PRICE: Unstated

In The Gun Hegemony, Ayo Opadokun, who wore two hats as Secretary of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and Secretary of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has delivered a highly comprehensive and authoritative third-party, multi-sourced narrative on the Nigerian Military.

Riding on the hypothesis that Military incursions have afflicted Nigeria with more harm than good, Opadokun submits in the book that officers who planned the first coup and subsequent ones only succeeded in inflicting the country with mediocre leadership and great disservice. The uniformed men abandoned their core responsibility and primary assignment to meddle in governance. Opadokun’s judgement? They failed woefully in both.

In overthrowing civilian regimes and taking over government, Opadokun submits, the Nigerian Military chased two rats and lost both. The officer corps ended up being neither effective governors nor efficient professionals when they took over the reins of government. Nigeria’s Military rulers flopped in both soldiering and governance.

The Author has delivered a well-researched volume, which must be credited for its great depth and expansive coverage. The NADECO Secretary’s effort will surely rate as one of the best-researched books on the country’s Military history. Opadokun traces the beginnings of today’s Nigerian Army to the colonial era with the emergence of the “Glover’s Hausas.” That foundation, he said, began the northernisation of the Military, a malady the country has found itself unable to cure and which, he says, accounts for the preponderance of Military formations in the North to the detriment of the South. It also explains the powerful influence the North continues to wield over the Military.

The Gun Hegemony traces not just Nigeria’s history of coups; it also includes verbatim several maiden coup speeches. Ironically, when he launched the book in Lagos, the Elder Statesman picked January 15, 2026, the very day marking the 60th anniversary of Nigeria’s first Military coup. He dissects that epochal event’s main protagonists and antagonists –Chukwuma Nzeogwu, Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, Adekunle Fajuyi, Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe and others. What role did each of these historical figures play to trigger and execute that first coup?

To his credit, Opadokun leverages on erstwhile elusive materials from the E-Branch of the police, the shadowy and formidable Intelligence branch of the Police Force. Exclusive E-Branch documents come to light, thanks to the book, and offer an official and unbiased narrative of the events of that fateful day. The reports capture the events and players of January 15 and dovetail into those of the counter-coup of July 15, 1966. There is a list of officers who escaped the pogrom and how they managed to save their own lives. Also, there is a comprehensive listing of all who fell and paid the highest price in the unfortunate Military coup and counter-coup.

What role did Brigadier Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu play in the coup? Opadokun provides irrefutable material to show that Ojukwu indeed played a more than a non-participatory role in the putsch. Ojukwu had prior knowledge of the coup and gave it his blessing. Why did he subsequently back off when it was obvious the coup had become doomed? Why did he push ahead with the Civil War when his Igbo leaders discouraged him? The Gun Hegemony provides answers. Also, from the lips of his kinsmen, testimonials emerge to paint Ojukwu as an ambitious separatist rebel who suffered from enormous trust issues that triggered him into killing allies.

Even more interesting, Opadokun traces the history of coups worldwide, even if he borrowed acknowledged materials from acknowledged third-party sources. The book chronologically lists coups that have ever taken place in human history, beginning from biblical records, to violent overthrows of governments in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. What a feat!

Of 15 chapters and 152 pages of lavish appendices and indexes, The Gun Hegemony will be a veritable resource material for researchers and students of Nigerian history. The printing quality is high. Utilising a multimedia, gloss-laminated, foiled-font and sleeved cover, the book is beautifully printed on bond paper, a quality that will guarantee it a long shelf-life and pride of place in private and public libraries.

True there have been many books on the Nigerian Military. But readers will find that Opadokun’s book uniquely crystallises the thesis, synthesis and antithesis of the Nigerian Military’s trajectory into one rich and educative volume.

Opadokun does not fight shy of controversy. He will surely spark some from Igbo and South-East defenders who will likely take offence that he subscribes to those who have tagged the January 15 coup essentially as an Igbo coup. What brought him to this conclusion? Like some before him, the Author highlights the fact that no frontline Igbo politician or Military officer in the First Republic ended up as a casualty of the putsch. He will also be called to task for highlighting the fact that the President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, embarked on a health holiday and boat cruise just before the Majors struck. And he will also face flaks for highlighting the fact that General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, as Head of State, failed to prosecute the mainly Igbo coupists, providing the grouse for Northern officers (hurting from the killing in January of Northern politicians and officers) to plan the counter-coup of July 1966.

The Gun Hegemony can serve as a rich resource for the soldiers, scholars, students, historians, politicians, journalists, diplomats and anyone interested in the evolution of the Nigerian Armed Forces from the colonial era to contemporary times. The book’s authoritativeness sounds loud and unapologetic from a daring Author who pulls no punches and shows a readiness to step on toes.

Looking for authoritative Military history mired in controversy? You will find it in Ayo Opadokun’s The Gun Hegemony.

PoliticsLagos Group Urges Tinubu, GAC To Concede 2027 Governorship To Ikorodu Division by JKisOK(op): 1:29pm On Jan 12
IKORODU LOKAN AGENDA 2027

Ikorodu, one of Lagos State's Five (5) divisions under the IBILE arrangement, remains the only division alongside Badagry without an indigenous Governor.

We urge our leader, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Governors Advisory Council (GAC), religious and traditional leaders, and other influencers to support our quest for an Ikorodu indigene as the next Lagos State governor in 2027.

We believe it's time for Ikorodu to take the helm, and we'll continue advocating for this cause. As the saying goes, "If we struggle, we can win; if we don't, we've lost abinitio."

Following this press release, we'll engage prominent Ikorodu indigenes and residents, culminating in a World Press Conference to amplify our message.

Ikorodu has Prominent and Reliable Son's and Daughters capable of leading Lagos State, and it's only fair we get the next governorship candidacy, considering our contributions to the APC in the last three election cycles.

This is a Legitimate and Valid demand and this Struggle and advocacy will continue until this Agenda is actualised.

An injury to one is an injury to all.

PoliticsCertificate Forgery: Groups Protest Against Tinubu Protecting Interior Minister by JKisOK(op): 7:22pm On Dec 28, 2025
SAY PRESIDENT IS APPLYING ETHNIC SENTIMENTS IN THE CASE OF TUNJI OJO

A registered civil society organization, SecureWorld and Liberty Initiative for Peace, SELIP, in collaboration with the Coalition of Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organisations, CACSO, have perfected plans to hit the major streets of Abuja, Lagos, and Ondo States in what the groups term "the father and mother of all protests" in reaction to what the groups refer to as "apparent and deliberate efforts to protect the Minister of Interior on allegations of certificate forgery".

In a strongly worded Press Release issued on Saturday December 27, and signed by the senior program officer of SELIP, Comrade/Malam Bawa Y. Umar in Abuja, and Comrade Brendan Chijoke for CACSO, the groups insisted that what was good for the goose should be applicable to the gander also.

"All Nigerians could see how promptly the president sacked his erstwhile minister of science and technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, an Igboman from Enugu State, when his certificate forgery allegation went public. Same thing happened to the immediate past Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, a Fulani man from Sokoto State, who had to be forced to resign immediately his integrity was publicly called to question."

"Before the two mentioned above, Nigerians have not forgotten how the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu from Cross River state, who was also sacked even while investigation into the allegations against her was still ongoing. Even in that incident, the current Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, prominently featured but was protected by the Presidency from investigation."

"For the past few months, there have been serious allegations of certificate forgery with regard to his NYSC Certificate, his WAEC result, his first degree, and even his Master's degree. The totality of his educational status is shrouded in inconsistencies and contradictions. Let's take the issue of his NYSC certificate that some organizations have petitioned relevant agencies about. In accordance with available records, he was said to be remobilized for national youth service in 2019 at the age of 37 which is against the extant relevant laws that limits the age of service to less than 30 years of age. That is a fraudulent backdoor arrangement between him and some unscrupulous individuals at the NYSC. The clarification issued by the NYSC that the Minister was initially mobilized for service in the year 2006 but "absconded" from service paints a picture of an unscrupulous individual not fitting for a public office of high responsibility such as a Minister. Fundamentally, absconding from assignments damages a person's individual and professional reputation that also attracts official reprimands and sanctions. In saner climes it makes it harder to secure future employment and could attract legal actions."

"We wish to further disaggregate the issues involved thus; the NYSC authorities claim that Mr. Tunji Ojo suddenly reappeared in 2019 after absconding national service for 13 years, applied for remobilization at the illegal age of 37 and he was said to have been mobilized to serve at the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCT, Abuja. At the same time he was a full-time serving member of the House of Representatives having been earlier elected in that capacity. It could only imply that Mr. Tunji Ojo, being who he is, was drawing salaries and allowances from two Federal agencies simultaneously. If, as a youth corps member, the law does not allow you to take a full employment at the same period that you're serving as a youth corps member and the same law limits the age of service to below 30, the intrinsic legal implication of this is that whatever NYSC certificate you're parading is essentially INVALID which renders you unqualified to occupy any public office. Our position is that, even if the NYSC issued Mr Tunji Ojo a certificate in the circumstances shown above, that certificate at best is a fraudulent paperwork that has no legal validity."

"Why Mr. Tunji Ojo has survived till date as Interior Minister is only due to his Yoruba ethnicity. If he were to be from another ethnic nationality other than being a Yorubaman same as President Bola Tinubu, he would have been fired long ago by the president. Due to the foregoing, our both organizations will embark on father and mother of all protests in the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos state, and Ondo State by January 2026 should the Minister still retain his office as Interior Minister. We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately sack this Minister and not allow him further tarnish his administration. We call on President Bola Tinubu to immediately relieve this Minister of his appointment and institute an impartial panel to investigate the allegations. We are taking this route because we have noticed that all petitions already submitted against the Minister are being swept under the carpet without any investigatory actions taken nor satisfactory clarifications issued till date. Our strong belief that it is only people of integrity who should occupy high public offices and our patriotism to our dear country are the critical factors that inform this and the next series of actions that we have mapped out. President Bola Tinubu should stop basing his actions on the basis of ethnic sentiments because we can see apparent and deliberate efforts to protect the Minister on these allegations of certificate forgery".

"President Bola Tinubu should douse the burning fire of ethnic sympathy on Tunji Ojo's matter going by the way he has been shielded by the Presidency as the Nigerian public is not oblivious of his personal relationship and closeness with the Chief of Staff and others in the office of Mr President."

FULL VERSION OF THE MESSAGE:

My Fellow Nigerians,

As we mark this year's Christmas, may the love of Christ and his message of grace, hope, peace, and goodwill to humanity abide with us all.

Beyond the celebration and festivities of this season, Christmas reminds us to reflect on the significance of Jesus Christ's birth and his message of salvation as the Prince of Peace.

On this Holy Day, I wish all Christians in Nigeria and around the world a Merry Christmas. I thank God for the opportunity to serve as the leader of our great country, and I pray for peace in our land, especially among individuals of differing religious beliefs.

As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence.

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let us also reflect on the many contributions that Christians in Nigeria, as followers of Christ, have made and continue to make toward the progress of our country.

The love of Christ and the message of the Gospel have inspired many Christians to care for the vulnerable and less privileged in our society. We honour those who, following the example of Jesus, work tirelessly to promote peace, harmony, and tolerance in their communities.

For those who bring hope and faith in the midst of despair, this season is a reminder that, despite daunting challenges, God is with us.

Since I assumed office in 2023, I have continually reassured Nigerians of our unyielding commitment to safeguarding the security, unity, and stability of our nation.

That commitment remains steadfast under God and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. All Nigerians have the right to live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity.

No one, regardless of ethnicity or belief, should be made to suffer for professing and practising his faith. The love for God and love for humanity is at the heart of all the great faiths. These shared values must continue to bind us together as one indivisible and resilient people of our blessed country.

Throughout the year, I have had the privilege of engaging with prominent leaders from the two major faiths in the country, particularly amid concerns about religious intolerance and insecurity. We will build on these conversations to strengthen collaboration between government and religious institutions, prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence.

As many Nigerians travel to reunite with family and loved ones during this holiday period, I urge all citizens to exercise patience and maintain discipline on the roads.

I wish all travellers a safe journey and a safe return to their destinations.

With confidence in divine providence and our collective strength, we will continue the work of building a greater Nigeria, one that future generations will be proud of.

PoliticsOPC Wants Tinubu To Adopt Trump's, Other Local And Foreign Forces To Help Nigeri by JKisOK(op): 10:45am On Nov 11, 2025
OPC Wants Tinubu To Adopt Trump's, Other Local And Foreign Forces To Help Nigerian Army Crush Terrorists

Yoruba socio-cultural group, the Oodua People's Congress (OPC), has encouraged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to forge a Nigerian and international collaboration to eliminate the terrorism, kidnapping and killings inflicted on the country by non-state actors.

OPC spoke in the light of US President Donald Trump threatening to send in American forces to finish off Islamist terrorists and jihadists killing citizens in large segments of Nigeria.

In its statement signed by its
Secretary-General, Comrade Olubunmi Fasehun, the group said:

The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) wishes to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the peace, unity, and security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. At this critical moment in our nation’s history, when terrorism, banditry and kidnapping continue to threaten our communities, we believe that proactive collaboration among stakeholders is more crucial than ever, be they local or foreign.

In the light of the offer by US President Donald Trump to send in the American contingent to help wipe out terrorism, which is fast making Nigeria a dangerous space, we urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tap into the advantages of such a collaboration against evil non-state actors who have stretched the patriotic troops of our country’s Military to the limit.

Additionally, the Federal Government should task the US and other developed nations to freeze the assets of terrorism financiers in Nigeria and anywhere in the world.

Our position has always been clear: Security is a shared responsibility.

And OPC shall be willing to contribute our own quota to confront, defeat and expunge these terrorists from Yorubaland and indeed the entire country.

Over the past decades, OPC has demonstrated its deep presence at the grassroots level, especially across the Yoruba space in the South-West, Kogi, Kwara, Edo and Delta states. Our members live within the communities, markets, border towns, and rural corridors where vital intelligence can be gathered. We therefore recognize that our organization is uniquely positioned to support the efforts of security agencies in preventing, detecting and reporting threats before they escalate.

PARTNERSHIP WITH SECURITY AGENCIES
We are ready to partner more closely and formally with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Armed Forces and other relevant agencies in the following areas:

1. COMMUNITY-BASED INTELLIGENCE GATHERING:
OPC members will serve as the eyes and ears within our communities, relaying verified information on suspicious activities, criminal infiltration and movement of armed groups.

2. RAPID COMMUNICATION CHANNELS:
We are establishing dedicated communication lines to ensure quick transmission of intel to the appropriate authorities without delays or bureaucratic bottlenecks.

3. JOINT COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION:
We will collaborate with security agencies to educate residents on the importance of reporting strange movements and criminal hideouts, particularly in border and forested areas.

4. PEACEFUL AND LAWFUL OPERATIONS:
OPC remains fully committed to working within the framework of the law, without engaging in any form of jungle justice or unauthorized enforcement activity.

NOT VIGILANTISM — BUT STRUCTURED COMMUNITY SECURITY SUPPORT
We reiterate that our role is not to replace the government or the security forces, but to complement them. When civilians contribute information and work hand-in-hand with lawful authorities, crime prevention becomes easier, faster, and more effective.

A CALL FOR POLITICAL WILL
We also urge the Federal Government to take bold steps in confronting powerful individuals and networks long perceived as “untouchable” — those who benefit from or enable terrorism, banditry and ethnoreligious killings. The security of citizens must come before politics.

Based on the hotly-debated international offer, Nigeria now has a strategic opportunity to dismantle these entrenched structures of violence. We encourage the government to seize this moment with courage and transparency, using lawful intelligence-driven action and international cooperation where necessary.

CONCLUSION
The OPC stands for a safe and secure Yoruba homeland within a stable Nigeria.

We remain open to structured, continuous engagement with security agencies and policymakers to ensure that the Yoruba space in the South-West, Kogi, Kwara, Edo and Delta states remains a place of safety, economic growth and communal harmony.

PoliticsNew Coalition Vows To End Corrupt Leadership, Electoral Fraud In Nigeria by JKisOK(op): 3:56pm On Oct 04, 2025
A new coalition, the New Direction for Nigeria Movement (NEDMO), vows to end corrupt leadership and electoral fraud in the country.

Led by Convener Comrade Mark Adebayo, NEDMO says it is determined to bring about a new era of good governance and accountability.

At a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, Adebayo outlined the coalition's objectives, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to take control of their country's destiny.

"We are tired of an INEC that undermines our elections," he said. "Nigerians are fed up with an electoral management body that suffocates the democratic space."

According to him, NEDMO is calling for electoral reform, leadership change, and an overhaul of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

"The coalition wants to support candidates who are incorruptible, capable, and genuinely patriotic to lead Nigeria," he said.

Adebayo urged Nigerians to join NEDMO and support its mission to create a better Nigeria.

Boasting of structures in over 600 local government areas and growing, NEDMO's leadership spoke of being poised to be a major force in Nigerian politics.

Adebayo said: "As the country looks towards the 2027 general elections, NEDMO's emergence has injected fresh hope into the nation's democratic process."

Oluremi Mi,

As you celebrate your 65th birthday today, I honour not only the love of my life, but also a woman whose quiet strength and enduring grace have been my steadying anchor. Through every season, from the long years of struggle and political exile, to leadership responsibilities, you have stood firmly by my side with dignity, patience, and devotion that words can scarcely express.

You are more than my wife. You are my confidant, counsellor, and the steady flame illuminating my path. In you, our children and grandchildren see the example of compassion and faith, and in you, our nation sees the true strength of womanhood; resolute yet tender, humble yet unshakably firm.

Nigeria owes you more than many will ever know. In every sacrifice you made quietly, in every burden you carried without complaint, you have served this country as surely as I have, not from the podium, but from the heart of our home.

Today, as your husband, I thank God for your life, health, and unwavering love. As your President, I salute you as the First Lady whose warmth and empathy continue to touch millions of lives across our land. And as your lifelong companion, I say that I love you more than ever, and am blessed every day by your presence. Your love is a treasure I hold dear.

EducationRe: What Do You Think Our School Should Do In This Highly Sensitive Situation by JKisOK(m): 8:44pm On Sep 04, 2025
folake4u:
Hello Sir,

There are rules/guidelines for public and private schools in Nigeria. It is true that the Nigerian Law School is a public school for Nigerians whereas that of the Op is a private/business entity.

There is nothing like the school should "bend" to accomodate the Muslim students for fear of being sued.

Private schools are subject to the Ministry of Education rules, above all, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended).
In this order:
1. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
2. Private Education (Miscellaneous Provisions) Education Law (1989).
3. The National Policy on Education (2013).

Let us bear in mind that federal laws on dress code are supreme to private school regulations in Nigeria. Although the private schools have autonomy of their rules and regulations, it should also be done not to conflict/clash with fundamental constitutional rights, such as freedom of religion or expression, or violate established federal guidelines.

There is a Supreme Court ruling that Muslim female students in public schools have a right to wear the hijab. That is a precedent that apply to all schools including private schools.

Let us bear in mind that the hijab is a form of expression of one's religious beliefs.

The Guidelines for Public and Private Schools in Lagos State is also explicit.

Section 1.03
Paragraph (a) states that the purpose of secondary education is to provide students with opportunities for education of a higher quality irrespective of séx, social, religious or ethnic background or disability.
Balderdash. Private schools are private property. Just like religious places. Even if you are paying it does not mean you cannot be violating trespass rules. You step into private property you comply with their regulations. Choose the one that suits your beliefs and go there.
EducationRe: What Do You Think Our School Should Do In This Highly Sensitive Situation by JKisOK(m): 8:38pm On Sep 04, 2025
That they took the children out of the school and returned them to you means that you have some value.

Let them know that they cannot eat their cake and hold it. They cannot wear hijab and benefit from your educational standards both at once. They should choose one. Other parents and students may really mind that you are creating a dichotomy and compromising on dress codes. It is not going to be good for your image in the long run.

Don't bend your rules. It is a given. Students comply or they leave.

PoliticsBREAKING: Musician KWAM 1 Banned 6 Months From Flying -he Says 'they've Begged M by JKisOK(op): 1:42pm On Aug 07, 2025
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), today Thursday, banned Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate), six months from flying.

This followed the Fuji musicians unruly behaviour at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja on Tuesday.

A statement by Kunle Rasheed, Media Aide to K1 De Ultimate, has tried to clear the musician of stories making the rounds that he refused to surrender a flask of alcohol he was drinking from while on board the ValueJet plane to Lagos.

When he was subsequently disembarked forcefully, Ayinde body-blocked the plane, but its pilots taxied forcefully as he dodged its wing.

NCAA announced today that Ayinde had been placed on a six-month flight restriction for breaching airport security.

He will not be allowed to travel either by commercial or private flights through any Nigerian airports during the ban period.

Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, announced during a press briefing on Thursday.

“What I must assure the general public is that everybody involved in this will be brought to book,” Achimugu said.

“As we speak, the passenger is going to be blacklisted for the next six months flying in Nigeria.

“Aviation rules are made for everybody, for the protection of everybody. These rules are global. There is nothing about the rules that is to antagonise any passenger.

https://thenewsgiant.com/breaking-musician-kwam-1-banned-6-months-from-flying-as-he-says-theyve-begged-me/

“So, we will do everything we can to get to the root of it. Everybody who needs to be punished or sanctioned will receive justice.”

He also disclosed that the NCAA is currently writing to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to initiate legal proceedings against Ayinde.

When asked if Kwam 1 will not be prosecuted due to his closeness to President Bola Tinubu, the Director said Tinubu, as well as Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and aerospace development, are committed to the rule of law, and no individual — regardless of status — is exempt from due process.

On August 5, the NCAA suspended two ValueJet pilots over a safety breach at the domestic terminal of the airport.

Ayinde's statement, titled: "K1 De Ultimate and the ValueJet Episode: Setting the Record Straight," said: "Our attention has been drawn to reports alleging that King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) displayed unruly conduct while attempting to board a ValueJet flight on August 5, 2025, allegedly causing a breach of aviation protocol.

"We wish to categorically state that this narrative is not only exaggerated but also misleading.

"At no point did K1 act in a manner that endangered lives or breached safety regulations. The substance in question — which was wrongly sensationalized — was nothing more than plain drinking water, given to him at the airport lounge while he waited to board the aircraft. Despite his respectful effort to clarify this, the situation was unnecessarily escalated.

"Claims that K1 blocked the aircraft or attempted to disrupt operations are completely unfounded. The veteran artiste, who is globally respected and frequently travels both locally and internationally, understands and strictly adheres to aviation protocols.

"If indeed there had been anything inappropriate in his conduct, the Head of Airport Security, officials from relevant agencies such as FAAN and NCAA, as well as the Chairman and Managing Director of the airline, would not have reached out personally to appeal, tender apologies, and even go as far as arranging a private jet to fly him to Lagos — at no cost. Despite persistent persuasion from the airline’s top executives, K1 graciously declined the offer.

"It must also be emphasized that K1 was the victim in this incident. No one else but him and his personal assistant was directly involved. A few concerned passengers who witnessed the incident firsthand appealed to him to remain calm, recognizing the undue pressure he was under.

"In light of recent developments, it is important to note that the pilot involved now has her license suspended. Given the circumstances, it is no surprise if she attempts to deflect blame — surely, she must lie to cover herself up.

"We urge the media and the public to avoid sensationalism and allow the truth — not assumptions — to guide their judgment. K1 remains a law-abiding citizen and continues to cooperate fully with all relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is responsibly resolved."

Wrong, Okonkwo: There is nothing tribal about Governor Okpebholo's ban on Peter Obi.

What do we say of you Okonkwo abandoning the same Peter Obi and vilifying him and demarketing him as a man incapable of national leadership over the crisis in LP? Are we now to conclude that all Igbo people, or all lawyers, or all Actors (all demographics that you, Okonkwo, identify with), were or are against PO? You took a personal decision. Personal.

What Okpebholo has said has nothing to do with Edo people. It is personal. Iit is not tribalistic. It is at best the position of APC, or Monday's regime.

Edo people, Edo tribe and Edo sub-units love PO. You can take that to the bank.

PoliticsDemocracy Day 2025: NEDMO Calls On Nigerians To Reject Tinubu In 2027 by JKisOK(op): 12:02pm On Jun 12, 2025
A new pro-democracy and good governance advocacy mass group, New Direction for Nigeria Movement (NEDMO), has condemned what it termed 'the pollution of our democratic environment' by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

NEDMO is a mass movement advocating for competent, credible, capable, patriotic and intelligent leadership with unblemished integrity to be Nigeria's President as from 2027.

The group also aims at organizing Nigerians into a mass voting bloc to guide citizens to reject bad leaders and vote for those that are best inclined to govern the country effectively.

In a Press Release signed by the group's Convener, Comrade Mark Adebayo, in Abuja, Thursday June 22, NEDMO emphasized the importance of Nigerians ensuring that Tinubu does not continue beyond 2027.

NEDMO said: "It is difficult in the current situation that we have found ourselves in this country to wish Nigerians a 'happy democracy day', but we owe it a duty to address fellow Nigerians, nonetheless. This is basically due to the current atrocious economic policies of the Tinubu administration and the aggressive pollution of our democratic environment by the antidemocratic actions of the same government.

"The Tinubu administration has long abandoned governance by concentrating solely on the politics of how to rig the next elections and how the president could remain in power even beyond 2031, and the main thrust of that unconstitutional agenda is by turning Nigeria into a one-party state as currently being orchestrated via sponsoring crises in major opposition political Parties. The reality on ground is that Nigerians have overwhelmingly rejected president Tinubu's atrocious economic policies, incompetence, and tribalism in appointments even worse than his predecessor, General Muhammadu Buhari. If his policies have been rejected by the majority of the citizens as seen today, it goes without saying that Tinubu cannot win in a free, fair, and credible election in 2027.

"The biggest coalition that will defeat President Tinubu in 2027 is a pan-Nigerian coalition of the Nigerian masses that is currently augmenting nationwide albeit silently but steadily.

"We urge all Nigerians to ensure that everyone of voting age registers to vote and use their permanent voter's card to drive away bad governance from our national space in 2027. We must make sure to vote for a credible president with moral and public service integrity by rejecting, in its totality, the current rot, corruption, incompetence, insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and retrogressive leadership. It is time for a new and better direction for Nigeria. Join hands with us to give Nigeria a patriotic, humane, and competent president in 2027."

NEDMO is said to have structures in the 774 LGAs of Nigeria with a fast-growing in membership.

PoliticsInsecurity, Bad Governance: CUPP Declares Tinubu Regime A Total Disaster by JKisOK(op): 11:23am On May 08, 2025
Urges Nigerians To Elect A New President In 2027

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has declared the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a total disaster in all ramifications.

Making the view public through a Press Release on Thursday e-signed by the CUPP Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, the opposition political parties in the umbrella organization described the administration of Tinubu as "wickedly inhumane, crudely unjust, horrifically destabilizing, and egocentrically unpatriotic.'

CUPP lamented the unabated insecurity occasioned by daily killings, debilitating economic hardships, spiralling inflation and bad road networks among others.

Adebayo said in the full CUPP statement that: "Today's Nigeria operates like a leaderless society and a rudderless ship, thanks to the
wickedly inhumane, crudely unjust, horrifically destabilizing, and egocentrically unpatriotic administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

"The insecurity in the country has reached aggravatingly unbearable levels with hundreds of Nigerians being killed every week while entire towns, villages, and hamlets are being ravaged, marauded, and forcefully occupied by both bandits and killer herders while the Federal Government under Tinubu slumbers on. The President pays more attention to his personal health than the collective well-being of Nigerians that he vowed under oath to secure and protect.

"Apart from abandoning Nigerians to the escalated vagaries of insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and all other elements of insecurity, President Tinubu has also abandoned governance.

"It is a shame that under this incompetent government, Nigeria does not have Ambassadors anywhere in the world today. Many government parastatals and agencies, even crucial ones like the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Federal Inland Revenue Services, FIRS, and many others have not had their boards inaugurated after being constituted almost two years ago or thereabouts. The heads of those organisations are just running one-man shows while only doing the President's personal bidding to the detriment of proper and efficient functioning of those agencies. If government agencies have no governing boards, whatever expenditures those agencies are making and contracts being awarded are not only illegal but also liable to massive corruption.

"Killings in Plateau, Benue, Borno, and throughout the country claim hundreds of lives every week with the government acting helpless and unconcerned for the most part. It does seem that the Tinubu administration has a secret pact with the killers that emboldens them to carry out mass killings of Nigerians without let or hindrance and without a robust confrontation against them by our security forces. The terrorists seem to enjoy unhindered right of way to commit horrific atrocities without proper government engagement. The current administration has not deemed it fit to organize a security summit to be addressed by international experts on terrorism/insurgency and violent marauding or, at least, employ mercenary fighters to eliminate or flush out these bandits from our country.

"Nigeria's security challenges have gotten to a stage where skeletal or reactive military actions have no intrinsic value whatsoever. It requires a concentrated and professional military engagement to tackle by all measures available, including raising a large people's army to deal with. But the President and his cabinet are more interested in enjoying the glamour and powers of office than working on finding permanent solutions to the country's security and economic challenges that they brought on the country in the first instance. After all, a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Kawu Baraje, had confessed publicly that they imported terrorists from Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mali and other African countries to cause mayhem in the country in order to win the 2015 presidential election. That confession has neither been investigated nor prosecuted up till now by relevant security agencies.

"A government that created a problem cannot be expected to solve it. Therefore, the burgeoning security and economic crises currently bedeviling Nigeria are beyond President Tinubu to solve. Therefore, we urge Nigerians to avoid affliction rising a second time by working together with the opposition to vote in a new President in 2027. Should Nigerians make the mistake of re-electing Tinubu in 2027, things will get much worse than they are currently and the country may actually collapse under the humongous weight of unmitigated corruption, incompetence, and aggravated insecurity.

"There is nothing new that Tinubu can offer Nigeria except worsening socio-economic conditions aggravated by dangerous insecurity for which the President has neither the time nor the answer. Nigerians must be deliberate in voting this President out in 2027."

Shedding light on the 78-year-old’s recent itinerary, Ogundipe said Sunny Ade played two Saturdays ago in Ijebu Ososa area of Ogun State.

Last Saturday, April 26, the Juju king took the stand to play a gig somewhere in Lekki area of Lagos State, the GMD explained.

However, Ogundipe would not give details of the Ondo-born musician's whereabouts to prevent an influx of well-wishers who might want to

The man committed sacrilege by bombing, burning and demolishing the building in the first place. Very evil.

PoliticsThreats Against Ugochinyere, Fubara Endangering Our Democracy - CUPP by JKisOK(op): 11:58am On Mar 18, 2025
- SAYS THIS WAS HOW FIRST AND SECOND REPUBLICS DIED PREMATURELY

- CALLS ON THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON THOSE SCUTTLING DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA

THE Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has raised the alarm that there are surreptitious moves by those they alleged to be pro-Wike groups to get the seat of Honorable Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo state in House of Representatives vacant by illegal means. It also warns that the threats to impeach the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara amount to threats against Nigeria's democracy.

In a Press Release this Tuesday signed by the Coalition's national Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, the number one opposition Coalition in the country states that

"The twin threats to illegally declare the seat of Honorable Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere vacant in the House of Representatives and the current clandestine moves to illegally impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara by groups suspected to be pro-Wike are direct threats to this Republic.

"We wish to remind those who misuse the levers of power today just because they are in government that not only that power is transient by nature, but that this was how the demise of the first and second Republics started. It was the reckless and draconian misuse of government power as we are currently witnessing that caused the premature deaths of the first and second Republics. If care is not taken in handling both Fubara and Ugochinyere's matters, including the imbroglio in the Lagos State House of Assembly, the country's democracy is terminally endangered.

"We call on all those fanning the embers of violence and illegality to stop forthwith and toe the paths of constitutionality and the rule of law.

"We call on the international community to call all the dramatis personae causing the political commotions across the country to order with immediate effect or even consider imposing sanctions on them."
