Politics / Re: Allegations Of Tribalism Against Me & Nairaland by jo2222(m): 9:51am On Dec 30, 2023
Seun:
I would like to address the allegations on Twitter about tribalism on Nairaland or that I am some kind of tribalist, because I was told that not addressing them means that they are true.

The more extreme variants of that claim are being pushed primarily by south-eastern tribalists who feel that south-western tribalists have the upper hand on Nairaland in their battles with each other.

Whenever they are banned after breaking rule 2 of Nairaland, they will go back to Twitter to lament about how Nairaland is against their tribe and how I'm personally working against them.

I urge you to disregard any accusation against me or against Nairaland if the accusers cannot prevent hard evidence to support their claims. These people make things up, and people just believe them.

For avoidance of doubt, I have always been a supporter and admirer of south-eastern people. I will never have any tribalistic bone in my body. I am a human who views people as humans first.

The micro-kernel of truth in the mountain of lies is that Nairaland is under-staffed. The staff I have do not moderate as efficiently as I want them to. They also struggle with following my instructions.

So if you go to Nairaland looking for tribalism, you will find it in certain areas, just as you will if you search Twitter for tribalism, because of people whose main business online is tribal trolling.

However, I want Nairaland to be better than Twitter. I want to improve the consistency of moderation on Nairaland. For this reason, I am in the process of recruiting more people to help.

Mr Seun, am ready to join the team of moderators, am young and eager to work.

Have been a visitor on nairaland since 2017, then it wasn't filled with tribalist like this, am ready to work to return it to is former glory and am ready to take instructions.

An Open Letter To Pa Wole Soyinka.
———————————————————

Pa, my own attention has been drawn to your widely publicized condemnation of the content of the lyrics, in the viral video of members of the National Association of Seadogs, otherwise called Pyrates Confraternity, which obviously targeted at Pa Yekini aka Pa Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In your response, you descended heavily against your members, involved in that gyrations, and disassociated yourself from them.

But you didn’t just stop there Pa.

You added extra.

Pa, you invariably, and undisguisedly appointed yourself as the defender-in-chief of Pa Yekini, your kin’s man and close political ally.

For you threw every under the bus, to vigorously defend your pal Pa Yekini, as you advanced against every single logical reasonings in your defense of your very own, several disjointed emotional blackmails, and false equivalence.

No problem Pa.

It’s all within your rights to say whatever you deem fit.

And it’s also within our own rights, to engage you upon the very issues you’ve raised, especially when your right to reply, becomes inimical to our very existence, such as in this case.

First, I don’t want to dwell on your very uncharitable recent antecedence and unwholesome political involvements that enthroned our present calamitous realities.

For all those ugly recent memories of you are already within the public domain, and posterity is already here and judging you very harshly.

As a literary giant, you were the conscience of Nigeria, and the African race, or you ought to be.

But you decided to blew all that into the winds by the political choices and preferences you’ve already made since 2015.

And since then, you’ve ceased to exist as the true conscience of Nigeria.

Pardon my digressions.

Back to the real issues Pa.

You condemned the lyrics of that gyrations on the basis that it violated your own personal culture and tradition as a Yoruba man.

Pa, let me respectfully remind you that, the whole gamuts and imports of that lyrics dealt with, the entire Nigeria secular society, and not your own narrow cultural persuasions.

It’s about Nigeria and not just a Yoruba thing.

Pa Yekini didn’t hold out himself to govern a Yoruba nation, otherwise your logic would have been valid.

It’s still within your rights to conscript yourself into some provincialism, and speak from that narrow myopic prism as a Yoruba elder.

It’s fine.

But the issues being deliberated here is beyond your cultural agenda.

Secondly Pa, your attempt to blackmail them for alluding to Pa Yekini’s physical health is most unfortunate and goes to no issues at all.

Pa

Nobody is mocking every random person’s health or age.

Here’s the huge exception;

Pa Yekini wants to be president of Nigeria.

And Nigerians reserve the exclusive rights to interrogate every single thing about him, his health and age inclusive.

Pa, in that gyrations,

People were rather expressing their displeasure over the old, obviously frail, sick man that insists he wants to govern them.

When you hold out yourself for public office, you don’t expect the public to keep quiet about your life, looks, health, age and everything.

Nobody will say anything to an old responsible grandpa at home, resting and attending to his grandchildren.

For the interim, because I may do further dissections on you,

If you Pa Soyinka, doesn’t find it as much more “Distasteful”, that sickly octogenarian Pa Yekini,
Should still be struggling to lead an ailing Nation at this crucially auspicious times,
then, You have equally lost ALL moral rectitudes and intellectual integrity to criticize the lyrical Truths in that gyrations.

Pa Soyinka, you really deserve some rest right now, and stop talking, before you do further damage to your already battered public image.

For you indeed smacks of a highly sophisticated but integrity challenged old man.

You don’t deserve to erode every single honor remaining of you at this age.

But in the unlikely event you choose to persevere in this errors, the natural concomitance shall be to resist your reckless conscience, by all means.

Pa Soyinka, Nigerians lives matters most now, than keeping your honor, you’ve serially destroyed.

Theo51:
This idea will further aid electoral fraud. Fixing the presidential election on a separate day/date will be the worst mistake. It gonna be like operation deliver your polling units and that will be bloody.
Now, the issues are lesser because National Assembly members contesting, are somehow busy on that day trying to save their heads so they pay less concern to the presidential election. 2019 election, I saw a candidate contesting for house of rep so busy making calls. After casting his vote, he practically excuse himself & was so busy on phone trying to monitor his result from different parts that make up the constituency.
This is a man that on a norms, he dey mount polling unit with rbs & excess suicide.
I don't think it would aid electoral fraud...
Let use that house of rep member as an example, the reason he was working tirelessly was because he has his own ambition that same day... Some candidates might not like the idea of whom is representing them in the Gov. Or even Presidential election, but because they too need to win on that same day, they would be ready to pay any amount

But once it fix on a different day, they would likely try to rig for themselves, which would still be hard cause the public will be on them, then imagine a separate presidential election, can a presidential candidate but vote in all the unit in the country ?

chances are that if the elections are fixed separately candidates won't be able to carry out vote buying... Imagine this logic, a candidate paying 10k per vote during a single election is highly possible, but paying 10k per vote for four different election will be so hard, cause of the funding

This advocacy needs to be loudest already.

My Re-Post!

An Open Letter To Chairman Of INEC Nigeria
———————————————————————-
RE: Request To Fix Presidential Election On Exclusively Seperate Day.
———————————————————————————

Sir,

In recent times, presidential elections in Nigeria, have always been slated together with other National legislative elections.

Specifically, since 2015 till now,
Successive elections have witnessed the combination of Presidential, Senates and House of Representatives, elections being fixed on the same day.

This particular decision by INEC has helped, encouraged and promoted the menace of Vote-buying, by major political parties in Nigeria.

And has thereby, made it virtually impossible for ordinary Nigerians to freely vote for a president of their choice, devoid of political party interests.

Sir, here’s the practical ways it works in our local communities in Nigeria:

The National Assembly seats are 469 combined.

It consists of a Senate with 109 members and a 360-member House of Representatives.

The two major parties in Nigeria already have the financial war chest to struggle for these 469 slots.

Meaning, 469x2 equals 936 powerful contending legislative aspirants from the two major political parties.

All of them have Police and Military officers attached to them, plus a litany of other hangers-on and paramilitary groups around them.

That is what they call structure.

So, because the presidential and these powerful 936 legislative elections are usually fixed on same day, there’s always that personal evil tasks of delivering their own various political parties on that same day.

Hence, the evil job of Vote-buying has been officially distributed to these 936 strong aspirants.

Practically, manpowers from both Inec and security agencies who are already overstretched cannot be able to effectively monitor or stop even 5% of these criminality of Vote-buying on that single day.

Remember, the 936 strong Aspirants will be fighting for their own personal political survival, while buying Votes for their parties.

Even when these 936 aspirants are really not interested in their party presidential candidate to win, they will simply be motivated by their own personal interests on the ballots that very day.

But.

The situation will never be the same, if the Presidential election is fixed on a separate, exclusive date when no vested interests of the 936 powerful men are at stake.

Chances are that, 90% of them will never engage in Vote buying for their parties, on a day, their personal political interests are not at stake.

Chances are that, majority of them will allow the masses to make their informed decisions and choose their president.

Chances are that most of these 936 Aspirants, are even tired of these perennial very worst presidential candidates in their parties, who got their tickets via buying of Delegates.

Most of these 936 Aspirants earnestly desire the best presidential candidates to win, irrespective of the party.

Many, many of these Aspirants are totally unhappy with their presidential candidates.

Most of them genuinely feel the urgent need to allow Nigerians choose their president.

But Inec has not helped them.

They wish it could have been separated.

Because they are hamstrung, and tied down by their own personal interests that are usually tied up by INEC, on the same day of election.

That’s why on the day of election, they buy votes for their Parties, thereby protecting their own political survival.

They can’t possibly tell their constituents to vote only for them as Aspirant.

INEC, police and EFCC can’t be everywhere on that day.

This is exactly the dangers of their structures.

That’s how bad presidents emerge.

And the confusion continues in the country.

Consequently sir, I passionately appeal to you, to kindly fix this coming Presidential election in 2023 on a separate date, preferably on the first day.

My Chairman sir, kindly do this for Nigeria.

Do this to save this country.

Do it for it accords with international best practices.

Do it, just like France, Canada and other other civilized countries.

Do it, for it is the most patriotic thing to do!

Please, apply for additional funds if necessary.

There’s always room for little supplementary budgets.

Nigerians will definitely prevail on government to support your efforts in terms of additional funding.

Seek for the funds NOW, if necessary and needed.

Chairman sir,

Posterity will definitely judge you right if you positively heed and comply with this passionate appeal.

Let us work together to #EndCashAndCarryPolitics and #VoteBuying since INEC has already noted it to be a major issue hampering credible elections in Nigeria.
