While some artistes can boast of music industry longevity, the career of many others can be likened to a flash in the pan. One-hit wonders are artistes who release hit singles, put together a decent album, stay in the limelight for some time and poof, they are gone – like they never came. For some, it’s a gradual disappearance into the oblivion of music obscurity and for the relentless, they are consigned to the sidelines and are forced to settle for ocassional crumbs of success. Here are some of the people we thought would stay longer in the spotlight but they didn’t. In 2008, Bigiano had Nigeria dancing to his major hit song Shayo and owing to the success of the single, he named his album Shayo Master. The album, which was released under T.Joe Records in 2010, contained minor hits such as Iwofa, True Story and One and Only. At what was possibly the peak of his success, Bigiano disappeared from the scene. In a recent interview, he explained why he went off the radar. He said: “I decided to take a little break to re-brand myself . When the fame of ‘Shayo’ came, I couldn’t handle it. I deliberately made the decision to go off the scene in 2011 to re-position my brand.” A few years later, he returned with a new single, Tonight, but it failed to gain any traction and subsequent releases have followed the same path. When you hear her name, the song that comes to mind is Ijo ya. Although Weird MC released an album “Simply Weird” in 1996, she didn’t hit the limelight till 2006 when she released Ijo ya. The song and was commercially successful but her album After The Storm failed to make a strong statement. Not much has been heard from Weird MC since then, in spite of her ocassional releases. Rumour has it that she has her eye on politics. Soul E Baba Dey Here was an extremely popular tune in 2006 and Soul E built on the success of the song with the release of an even more commercially successful single, E be like say featuring 2face Idibia. Subsequently, Soul E released his debut album, Naija is Blessed, which performed relatively well at the time. All his releases after that album fell flat and failed to garner commercial appeal. Any hope of getting another hit from Soul E was dashed when he announced that he was leaving music for the gospel. Emmanuel Okose, now a prophet, says he made the life-changing decision in Singapore when a man told him he would become a cripple should he fail to do God’s work. Jodie released Under the Mango tree and Kuchi Kuchi (Oh Baby) in 2010 and both songs achieved widespread popularity and impact. Two years later, the singer released her debut album African Woman, but ever since, she’s been quiet. While Jodie has not entirely left the music industry, she appears to have taken a back seat to start a family. Pass me your love was a club favourite and one of the best singles of 2009. The hit song which was produced by Terry G caused a serious rift between both artistes. Over time, many have argued that perhaps, AY got caught up in the beef that he became distracted and struggled to release anything on the level of Pass me your love. In June 2016, AY attempted to make a comeback with Capital G.O.D featuring Oritsefemi and 9ice, but the single never enjoyed radio rotation. Samklef attained prominence for his extensive production work on Wizkid’s debut album, ‘Superstar’. Unsatisfied with staying on the sidelines and helping make music stars, Samklef pursued his own music career and early on, he hit gold. In 2011, Samklef released Molowo noni, a successful song which featured D’Prince, Wizkid and Ice Prince. The release of his Gift of God album was perhaps the sign of things to come as the record was poorly received by fans and music critics. In spite of subsequent releases and features, Samklef has failed to receive the attention commensurate to his effort. In 2008, Klever Jay’s Koni Koni Love was a massive hit in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. His follow-up single Igboro ti daro enjoyed a similar level of success after which it all fizzled out. Klever Jay, in a 2015 interview, acknowledged that the song changed his life. “I won’t lie to you, ‘Koni Koni Love’ remains my most memorable song. The track was a turning point in my life; it turned everything around for me, and till date, I can proudly say that the song did a lot for me.” Sadly, he has failed to produce any life-changing songs ever since. He released several songs after his first album but none has thus far placed him on the same pedestal as the first batch.

– The Nigerian Bar Association has called for the suspension of all the judges affected by the recent Department of State Services raid – The president of the association Abubakar Mahmoud said the suspension will enable the accused judges prove their innocence – Another retiring judge Sotonye Denton-West, also said she was at some point, a victim of corruption in the judiciary The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has made a U-turn over the raid and arrest of some Nigerian judges by the Department of State Services (DSS). In a request made by the NBA president Abubakar Mahmoud called for the suspension all the affected judges. Mahmoud, who spoke at a valedictory court session of the retirement of Justice Sotonye Denton-West said it is pertinent for all the judges to face judicial actions until their innocence is proven. The call for the suspension of the judges comes after the NBA had berated the raid by the DSS on the affected justice of the Supreme Court and Federal High Courts. He said the back and forth accusations between affected judges and some politicians led to National Judicial Council’s decision on the matter. The NBA president further called for an urgent intervention to restore the reputation of Nigeria’s judiciary. “In the interim however, particularly having regards to what appears to an ongoing accusations and counter accusations between the some of the judges and other personalities or agencies, it appears to the NBA that it is extremely important that the NJC takes very urgent steps to safeguard the public image and sanctity of the courts,” Mahmoud said. “We therefore strongly recommend that, without prejudice to the innocence or otherwise of the Judges involved in the ongoing investigations. “They should be required to recuse themselves from further judicial functions or required to proceed on compulsory leave until their innocence is fully and completely established or until the conclusion of all judicial or disciplinary proceedings. “We believe this will be necessary in order to protect the sanctity and integrity of judicial processes that may involve the judges concerned and safeguard the public image of the institution,” the NBA president concluded. Also speaking Denton-West admitted to being a victim of corruption in the judiciary. Denton-West who was the presiding justice at the Court of Appeal, Akure division advised that efforts should be made by all judicial institution to tackle the issue at hand. “Indeed, I know and believe that there is corruption, unfortunately even in the folds of the Judiciary. I have personally been a victim of corrupt act from the Judiciary on some occasions. “The Nigerian Judiciary in the past has been one of the greatest in the world, but it is time to relive and embrace the rule of law in its entirety. It seems only lip service is paid to this great doctrine. It is essential that the rule of law must be observed in order for society to run smoothly, otherwise the beauty of democracy will elude us. “The rule of law is observed when there is mutual respect between the authorities and those subject to authority and, between the powers that be and their subjects, in accordance with the law. For we are all subject to the law,” she said. Some weeks ago, the houses of five Nigerian judges including Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court, Justice Adeniyi Ademola and Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court were raided by operatives of the DSS. The DSS after their raid said investigations proved the judges were corrupt and at different times had requested for bribes from parties in some of their cases in order to influence court judgement in their favour. The DSS also said that money in various currencies – naira, United States dollars and pounds were found in the houses of these judges.

Editor’s note: Since the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, pro-Biafrans hold regular marches across south eastern Nigeria calling for independence and the release of their leader. Emeka Asinugo in this piece for the Daily Post shares his views on the issues supposing who is killing the Biafra. About a year ago, I wrote an article titled “Biafra is a Challenge, not a Solution”. In that article which was published in my regular columns in the 28 November 2015 edition of Modern Ghana and The Nigerian Voice newspapers, I partly touched on the reason why the Igbo seem controversially trapped in a social circle that many of their young ones strongly feel should not be the portion of their generation. Today, I would like to revisit some of the salient points I raised then, in view of recent developments. “If you ask me though,” I wrote in that article, “I think the position of the Igbo in the entire Nigerian experiment is very straight forward. Either they are truly One Nigeria or they are not. And if they are not, they should be allowed to go. That is it. “For the Igbo, being truly One Nigeria implies that ethnic chauvinism has to be expunged from the Nigerian national dictionary. It means that any Nigerian child born in any part of Nigeria has legitimacy of citizenship of his or her place of birth. It means that any citizen of Nigeria can live, work and help develop any village, town or city in Nigeria where he or she feels comfortable to live in, without being constantly reminded by those who claim to own the land that he or she is a foreigner in his or her own country. “But whether the Igbo are coming or going, there are fundamental issues to be addressed. “First and perhaps most importantly is the fact that although the Igbo are the ones now being hounded for agitating for the actualization of the Biafra nation, they are also the ones for whom the unity of Nigeria means so much. They are the ones who have made the most enormous sacrifices to keep Nigeria together. They are the ones who have invested their money and skills in the development of Nigerian villages, towns and cities other than their own. These facts are incontrovertible. “Secondly, it is obvious that the creation of Biafra can never be a solution to the problems of Ndigbo in Nigeria. At best, it will become their challenge. “There is simply no reason for anyone to convince himself that once Biafra is carved out from Nigeria, all the problems of the Igbo will vanish. Not by any stretch of the imagination! “We Igbo still have a long way to go. The Igbo of today are so far in quality from the Igbo before the Nigeria-Biafra war. Before the civil war, an Igbo was his brother’s keeper. Since the end of the war, an Igbo has become his brother’s betrayer. Before the civil war, the Igbo were united and spoke with one voice. Today, they can no longer speak with one voice. Even in the face of the current agitations for Biafra, the Igbo are not speaking with one voice. “The leadership of Igbo in those days which consisted of Igbo elders was known and unanimously recognised and no one argued about the hierarchy. Today, leaderships of sorts have sprung up from every nook and cranny of Igbo land. Everybody wants to be seen as an Igbo leader. The Igbo are still dancing the discordant tune of “each man for himself, God for us all!” The Igbo of today will be ready to betray each other because of money. Only a generation ago, it was unheard of. It was taboo. “It is also important to note that the Igbo were highly regarded by most of the other Nigerians before the Nigeria-Biafra war. Despite the negative impression of being domineering, which some Northern leaders had about them, most Nigerians trusted them. If an Igbo told another Nigerian “this is black or white”, and that Nigerian turned it over and over, it couldn’t be different. The fact that they were trusted by the other Nigerians made the Igbo proud of themselves. It was that pride that bestowed on them their unflinching sense of unity. “However, somehow, the Igbo fell short of expectation during the war. The story was that an Igbo who pretended to be dead would jump to his feet at the sudden clatter of coins. To other Nigerians, that meant that the Igbo loved money even more than their lives. Once it had become generally touted and people believed that Ndigbo are greedy and uncompromising with their love for money, political manipulators took advantage of their “weakness” to deal them a devastating and sustained blow from which they are yet to recover. “Nigerian leaders tried to settle the Igbo by giving them the opportunity of becoming the Senate President. It was hoped that from that legislative angle, they would be able to effect the necessary changes that would keep Nigeria firmly united and bring the Igbo back on their feet. But they bungled those opportunities. “Soon after a democratically elected fourth Republic was inaugurated, Evan Enwerem, an Igbo who hailed from Imo State became the first Senate President. He did not hold the post for long. A Senate committee investigated him for fraud, part of the allegation being that he falsified his name. He was removed from office on 18 November, 1999. “The next President was Dr Chuba Okadigbo, another Igbo from Anambra State. Okadigbo was relieved of that office in less than one year, on 8 August, 2000. He was accused of fraud and misappropriation of funds. “He was succeeded by Pius Anyim, yet another Igbo from Ebonyi State. Anyim presided over the Senate for close to three years, from 2000 to 2003. “In 2003, another Igbo from Abia State, Adolphus Wabara, took over. Wabara was there for two years from 2003 to 2005 and gave way to Ken Nnamani, yet another Igbo from Enugu State. “Nnamani presided for two years from 2005 to 2007 when the Presidency went outside Igbo Land, to the Middle Belt. “David Mark was elected Senate President on 6 June 2007. He completed his tenure of four years and was re-elected in April 2011 for another four-year term. The Igbo had to make do with second positions as Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives because they could not hold their ground. “All this shows that Ndigbo need to look themselves up inwardly. They need to address their own peculiar problems. They need to ask themselves pertinent questions. They must recognize that they are so important in the economic stability of the country that many Nigerians would not want to lose them.” Read the rest at http://dailypost.ng/2016/10/18/emeka-asinugo-killing-biafra/

An 18-year-old young lady from the Great Lakes region has described her romantic relationship of almost two years with her biological father she met after 12 years of being apart. Talking about how her father and mother had issues when she was born and how she later miraculously reunited with him on Facebook after many attempts, the teenager told New York Magazine, saying: ”My mom said that he didn’t want to have anything to do with me. But she was very controlling and kept me under Fort Knox–like conditions. She’s had my Facebook password since I’ve had an account. One day, after I got my Facebook privileges back, he added me as a friend. At first, I figured it was my grandpa because they have very similar names. I thought, Maybe Grandpa got techy? ”Then I realized it was my dad. I was like, Oh my God, where have you been? I don’t know if I can get close to you. I told him I thought he was dead and asked why it took him so long to contact me. He said he’d been adding me on Facebook but I’d always decline his requests. But that was my mom controlling my account. After we reunited, he showed me emails he’d sent trying to contact me. ”We chitchatted online for a few days and found out we were similar. We shared the same favorite TV shows — The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory — and we both love to draw. He came to see me about a week later. You wouldn’t have believed we hadn’t been around each other for 12 years. The idea of “getting to know him” seemed strange because we are so much alike. He came and hung out all day and then I asked to come spend a week with him — he lived in a small town about 30 minutes away. I think my mom knew I was going to move out and it really was getting to the point where I needed to escape, she was so controlling.” Describing how the feelings started with her father, she said: After I had stayed with him for about five days. He was living with his girlfriend. On the first night he slept on the couch and I slept on the floor, just to make sure that I was okay. Sleeping in new places makes me very anxious so I asked him to stay with me in case I had one of the terrible nightmares I usually experience. The second night I had him sleep on the couch again and then the third night I fell asleep with him on the floor lying on his chest, in his arms. The fourth night rolled around and we ended up on the floor again. This time we actually cuddled. When he woke up, we were spooning. I didn’t know this at the time but later, after we admitted our feelings, he told me he had had “morning wood” and had gone to fix it. ”He didn’t want me to see that he had an erection. Later that day, we went shopping because I had grown out of all my shorts, so I asked him if he could buy me some new ones. I was trying them on and asked him how I looked and he said I looked good and I felt like I was picking up on something more, but I pushed it out of my head. That night we were play-wrestling in the room I was going to sleep in and I bit him. He was wearing a pair of basketball shorts and a tank top and after I bit him I could see goose bumps pop up from his toes to his shoulders. Then he pinched my inner thigh and I got goose bumps. ”We stopped and said that we didn’t know what was going on but admitted that we had strong feelings for each other. We discussed whether it was wrong and then we kissed. And then we made out, and then we made love for the first time. That was when I lost my virginity. I told him I wanted him to be the first person I made love to. We talked about how it could be awkward if it didn’t end up working out. He also said that if I didn’t feel comfortable at any point I should tell him. ”There’s a reason I lost my virginity to him — because I’d never felt comfortable with any other man. It was insanely sensual. It lasted for about an hour and there was a lot of pre-intimacy. We both had orgasms. We are so similar, so it’s so easy to sexually please each other. For example, we both love neck-biting. I’ve never been in a more passionate, loving, fulfilling situation. ”We both initiated it and he kept asking me if I was okay, not because he thought I was distressed but because he wanted me to know that we could stop at any point. It was like any other man and woman having sex after they had each admitted their feelings. Afterwards, it felt so natural. It didn’t even feel taboo. I felt like I had just made love with a man who I’d been with for years. ”Everyone on my mom’s side of the family sees us as father and daughter. Those who know that he’s my dad, and that we are engaged, include my father’s parents (they can see we are happy together and they can’t wait for us to have babies — they treat us just like any other couple), the woman we live with, and my best friend. ”I’m planning on a full-on wedding but it won’t be legally registered. And personally, I don’t believe you need a piece of paper to prove that you want to be with the person you love. When you get married, you are signing part of yourself over to somebody. We’ll tell everybody that we got our marriage license, but they don’t have to see it. One of our friends will act as the celebrant…” You can finish reading here. http://nymag.com/scienceofus/2015/01/what-its-like-to-date-your-dad.html

Fashola under fire over proposed increase in electricity tariff Electricity consumers have lashed out at reports of a proposal by power distribution companies to raise the average energy charge to N105 per kilowatt-hour from the current rate of 22.8KWH. The fresh increase if implemented will see electricity tariff being paid by consumers increase over 200 per cent, less than eight months after about a 45 per cent increase in tariff was imposed on electricity consumers nationwide. READ ALSO: Nigeria’s power generation reduces to 3,531 megawatts The power firms attributed the proposed increase to high inflation rate in the country, scarcity of foreign exchange, devaluation of the naira and the huge debts being owed them. Already, the Discos said they had hinted the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission about the proposal but no action had been taken on it yet. But the news of the proposed increase in electricity tariff has angered some Nigerians who have called on the minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola to resign. The aggrieved consumers described the proposed hike in tariff as ill-timed considering the current economic recession. Others called for a revolt against the politician for failing to fulfill most of their campaign promises. read more https://www.naij.com/1020196-200-increase-electricity-tariff-fashola-asked-resign.html

– Emenalo faces sack at Chelsea following an on-going plot by head coach Antonio Conte – Conte wants Walter Sabatini to take over Emenalo’s job as Director of Football at Chelsea – Chelsea still hold faith in Emenalo despite Conte’s pursuit Former Nigerian footballer Michael Emenalo’s job at Chelsea could be on the line following an on-going plot by head coach Antonio Conte. According to reports on several media platforms, former Roma director, Walter Sabatini is being called to Chelsea, presumably to take over Michael Emenalo’s job as Director of Football. This follows a move by Conte to find a way to work with Sabatini, credited with the emergence of Miralem Pjanic, Erik Lamela and Radja Nainggolan at Roma. However, Chelsea still hold faith in Emenalo despite Conte’s admiration of Walter Sabatini. Reports in Italy over the weekend suggested that Sabatini was London-bound to take up a recruitment-focused role at Stamford Bridge. But Sabatini denied the reports of a move to Chelsea, citing his ‘terrible’ English as a reason not to head to London. Emenalo, who has been Chelsea’s Director of Football since 2011, had even offered to resign a few years ago, when Mourinho came back, but was told to get back to work. He is highly valued by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. Sabatini on his part, had built himself a great reputation at his previous job with AS Roma, where he was credited with revitalizing an aging, overpaid side with smart signings — many of whom he then had to sell, which supposedly frustrated him and led to his resignation earlier this season. The 51-year-old has also served as Director of Football at Palermo and Lazio previously.

– Ohaneze Youth Council plans to take action against Igbo political actors who have failed the interest of Ndigbo – The OYC says it has started compiling names of some Igbo politicians and will hand over the list to MASSOB for proper sanction – The group says Igbo contractors in Igboland who fail to execute such contract creditably will also face severe actions The Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) has declared its readiness to expel some Igbo politicians from Igboland for failing to put the interest of Ndigbo first in their actions. READ ALSO: MASSOB threatens to go after Igbo leaders for betraying Kanu OYC in a statement, according to Vanguard, said it would team up with Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) to sanitize Igbo land and take action against Igbo political actors who have failed the interest of Ndigbo. “While there is obvious external marginalization of Ndigbo, there is also the internal marginalisation by our own people. What do our governors do with the money that percolates to Igbo land? Most of them use it to buy lands, houses and choice properties all over the world. Some of them travel all over the world at every opportunity. They owe pensioners and workers for months. They do not care about the youths,” the OYC said. The group said it has started compiling names of some Igbo politicians and will hand over the list to MASSOB for proper sanction. It said it would also carry out its own sanctions on the affected politicians who cut across various categories. “The categories are former governors, some former and serving senators, failed contractors, about 3 serving Igbo governors, former and serving ministers, former commissioners, and those who benefitted from Jonathan’s election funds,” the group said. “In fact, if by December this year, such failed politicians fail to turn a new leaf, they will leave Igboland for us because we cannot tolerate such people in our midst again. They cannot stay in Igbo land and use our resources to better only their lives and the lives of their girlfriends and hangers on while their subjects suffer unduly. “ The group said Igbo contractors who fail to execute creditably contracts given to them will also face severe actions. Meanwhile, A faction of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB) has threatened to start a massive revolution in all Igbo communities by December that will stop the Christmas celebrations if Nnamdi Kanu is not released. MASSOB has also told traditional rulers in the south-east geopolitical zone henceforth not to celebrate the Ofala and New Yam festivals following their inability to demand the release of detained Nnamdi Kanu and other pro-Biafran agitators who have been detained since October 10, last year.

he wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, in her controversial interview granted to the BBC Hausa has said that the incumbent government had been hijacked by the unknown cabals. Olumuyiwa Olayinka in his blog lists two men, who are among those who rule Nigeria instead of President Buhari. 1. Abba Kyari is the chief of staff to the president. A retired Brigadier general in the Nigerian army. He had been in corridors of power since Gowon era. He wielded so much power, loves power and dispenses as he wishes. Sahara Reporters accuses him of using power for personal gain. He’s reported to be an uncle to the president. He had a firm grip on Mr President and a force to reckon with in this government 2. Daura is the nephew of President Buhari, even though the former is older than the later with a two and half year gap between them. But they are said to be close, much closer than anybody. He’s the unofficial vice president, much more than VP Osinbajo. In 1983, when the then General Muhammadu Buhari took over power from the democratically elected government of Shehu Shagari, Daura became very influential at the time. He even became the head of African International Bank and chairman of the board of Nigerian Television Authority, it was learnt, made strong inputs in the major appointments the President made and which have continued to generate controversy from across the country. Between the two they have made this government nepotic, despotic and lacks focus. Wonders shall never end. In as much as the human minds keep wondering and giving birth to new ideas, the more inventions will be made in the society. Some thousands of years back, the idea of having a vehicle which can travel hundreds of kilometres while carrying people might have sounded strange. That was because this was thought to be impossible because of the primitiveness of that era. So many things have changed in our society now; people are becoming more creative day by day. A vehicle which can move in both water and land has been surfaced. These vehicles are known as water buses and have been in operation for some years now. People often use them in waterfront properties that are not accessible by land. These buses are used mainly for sightseeing. Water buses can move conveniently on water and land. This may not be totally new as there are amphibious aircrafts in existence already. These aircrafts can fly and land on water. The largest amphibious aircraft was introduced by China. This huge craft has features that make it look like a boat and an airplane at the same time. This is exciting considering the fact that so many cars get swept by floods when we have prolonged rainfall. It is terrifying for people to get drowned while in their cars. This amphibious vehicle that can operate in both water and land may be the miracle we need. It is intriguing to know that something that has been seen in science fiction can happen in reality. we need this in Nigeria

– Northern Elders Forum (NEF) have expressed displeasure with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and President Muhammadu Buhari over the deteriorating socio-economic status of the North – The group also said the northern elders were also not happy that federal allocations, especially in the 2016 budget, allegedly favoured the southern part of the country more than the entire northern region Northern Elders Forum (NEF) have expressed displeasure with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and President Muhammadu Buhari over the deteriorating socio-economic status of the North. Speaking at the Pan-Northern Summit the group lamented about the economic hardship in the region in particular and Nigeria as a whole. The group also said the northern elders were also not happy that federal allocations, especially in the 2016 budget, allegedly favoured the southern part of the country more than the entire northern region. The Secretary and spokesman of NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi, in a pre-summit address had said: “As elders of the region, during the last dispensation we were not silent on some issues bedeviling the region as well as the country. We made our voices heard especially during the campaign period. Now we also feel it is time we talked for the progress of the region and the entire country. “If the North is shivering, by extension the other regions will catch cold. Quote me, because we still believe, we can influence events in the North and to an extent the country. “Several issues bordering on security, socio-economic and political issues affecting the country make it imperative for northerners from across the board to come together, examine the situation, reassess the northern position and chart a framework for action that will certainly be a key reference point in future national discourse. ” In his address to the gathering, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III dwelt on the state of Northern Nigeria, saying that unity of northern Nigeria was non-negotiable if the region must develop and have a common front. He lamented that the North of today was not the North that the Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello left behind, adding that there was ethnic awareness among northerners more than ever before. “There is more ethnic awareness now than ever before. The question is why the sudden consciousness in ethnicity and religion? I will not attempt to provide answer to this question, but we must therefore strive to re-unite the North. Only then, can we have a common front and build a united and cohesive North,” he said. He also decried the poor state of infrastructure in the North, charging northern governors to pay attention to infrastructure, especially roads. “Governors should build roads, instead of using N28bn to build airport. Common people will feel their impact more on roads than building airport.” Also speaking at the summit, Professor Ango, who was the chairman, organizing committee of the summit, said the situation, which led to the victory of the APC in the North was not about the party but the fact that the North needed a return of leadership of the country from the South. “With due respect to those of you who are in APC, the APC did not win election here, take it or leave it, it is the resistance groups that mobilised people to really take the election.” He charged the APC on how to manage the success that the resistance group gave them, adding “now that you’ve won the election it is up to you to manage success, it is one thing to get success and another thing to manage it. “And this is the stage we are in now, how to manage success, and this is why this summit was convened for people across the North to come and air their views on what really is the problem. Whether you accept it or not there are problems.” Ango explained that the decision to return power was reached after what happened following the death of former president Umaru Yar’Adua, and some Nigerians including northerners conspired to abort the power sharing agreement reached by the PDP. “When we saw in 2010, having been denied the chance under the rotation agreement for the North to really provide the president after Umaru’s death, automatically we knew there was grand political conspiracy against Northern Nigeria, no question about that,” Professor Ango said.

One of the most extraordinary octogenarians living anywhere in the world today is Alhaji Pa Bello Abubakar Masaba, the man with 97 wives and over 190 children. The man, who is said to preside over a 5,000 strong household in Bida, Nigeria, is an Islamic scholar and faith healer. In 2008, the man was detained for weeks for not following the sharia law of marrying not more than four wives. He was ordered to divorce about 82 of his wives, leaving him with just four (at that time because he later married more), as prescribed by Islam. He refused. The case dragged into an Abuja High Court, where he was released after the testimony of 57 of the wives that they married him willingly. In an interview with a foreign newspaper, Masaba disclosed how he continues to write his name into the Guinness Book of Records, as Nigeria’s most prolific man, by marrying even more wives every time he sees a new ‘Miss Right’. When asked how Masaba satisfies his women sexually, the octogenarian said his sexual power is from God. ”In his wisdom, God has given me the power and strength to give them the sexual portion they need. If I didn’t satisfy them, they would leave,” he said. Recently, there were rumours that the 87-year-old ‘spectacular’ polygamist died after a brief illness. Vanguard contacted him and he dismissed the rumours of his death, saying “I am still alive, bubbling in good health.” Masaba, who dismissed the rumour on phone yesterday, described the rumour as a deliberate act by his detractors to bury him while still alive. He said: “My dear, I am still alive, hale and hearty. At least, you can hear me speak and certainly, a dead person cannot speak. The rumour is baseless and can best be described as the work of my detractors because they envy what God has done and what He is still doing for me. I am seated outside of my house and I am speaking with you live in Bida without any problem with my health. What I am doing is divine. It is an assignment and I will keep doing it till the end.” Wow!

The people of Malawi are in deep distress after their President, Peter Mutharika, ‘went missing’ for almost a month now. According to reports, the president has been out of the country for almost a month without any formal information as to his whereabouts, prompting demands for him to explain what critics call his “absence without leave.” Some even think the president is sick and in a serious health dilemma. The last of President Mutharika that was heard was when he addressed U.N. gathering of world leaders in late September in the United States. Instead of going back home, the president is alleged to have stayed back to enjoy himself. But when the speculations were getting too much, the statehouse this week announced that the President will return home on Sunday. It also denied rumors that Mutharika is critically ill. The country’s information minister went ahead to describe the rumors as “baseless, malicious and sickening” and threatened those spreading false rumors with arrest. Malawi’s Parliament wants the president to disclose all expenses incurred on his tour, including those of his entourage. Meanwhile, some concerned citizens have taken to Twitter to express anger and disgust over the sudden disappearance of the president. A hashtag #BringBackMutharika has seen many Malawians express their anger at the sudden disappearance of the president.
