Nairaland GeneralWoman Dies During Sex Romp With Lover In Ibadan by joearinze(op): 8:18am On Nov 02, 2016
A 50-year-old man, Fatai Busari, has been remanded in prison for allegedly causing the death of his 48-year-old concubine, Sadiat Adejuwon, during sex. The Punch reports that Busari had taken a herbal aphrodisiac before proceeding to have sex with Adejuwon. The matter was taken to an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ibadan on Tuesday, November 1 and Busari was arraigned on a one- count charge of causing death.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Salewa Hammed, told the court that Busari on October 10, at about 3.00p.m. at Asaka area, Ibadan, unlawfully caused the death of one Sadiat Adejuwon. Hammed said the death of Adejuwon happened while Busari was having carnal knowledge of her in his house.
He said: “Busari and the deceased woman worked as casual workers cleaning the street and they were dating. On the fateful day, Busari drank herbal concoction to boost his manhood before sleeping with her. It was afterwards that he realised that something was amiss when he noticed blood flowing out of her private part. She later died at the spot and he raised alarm.” Hammed said that the offence committed contravened section 316 and was punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000. Busari was however remanded at the Agodi prison. According to the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Abiona Richard, he will be in the prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. And if he is found guilty of the offence, he will face the death sentence.

Nairaland GeneralThe ‘unknown’ Nigerian Music Icon Grammy Award Winner D Story Of Lekan Babalola by joearinze(op): 8:07am On Nov 01, 2016
About 2 weeks ago, I was watching CNN African Voices and their main feature was a man called Lekan Babalola. I didn’t pay much attention until I saw him perform on stage with popular masked musician Lagbaja and then the narrator mentioned that he had won not one Grammy award, but two!

My first thought was that CNN was lying. A Nigerian with two Grammy awards? When did it happen? And why is it that most people do not know about this? It’s not my fault that I was having these thoughts. When the Grammy’s are mentioned, most people begin to wonder whether Femi Kuti will win that year or if Sunny Ade will ever be recognized as the true performer he is. No one really gives much thought to it. Except those that occasionally remember that 9ice had promised to bring home one even though we are still waiting.

But after researching Lekan Babalola extensively, I found out that it is true that he has won two Grammys amongst other things. Here are some previously unknown facts about him:
1. His foray into music began in the church at the age of six. He started a band with his friends and he paid them with “sweets that he bought with the money his mother gave him.”
2. His instruments of choice are the Conga and Bongo Drums
3. He initially wanted to become a pilot and he even went on to study automobile engineering at Chelsea College of Automobile and Aeronautical Engineering, London.
4. He realized that music was his true passion so he dropped out from engineering school to study filmmaking at Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design where he studied filmmaking. He later proceeded to the Northern Film School where he completed his master’s degree
5. He won his first Grammy in 2006 for his work on the album In The Heart Of The Moon by legendary Malian guitarist, Ali Farka Toure. His second came in 2009 for his work on Cassandra Wilson‘s album Loverly.
6. He has worked with notable acts including Prince, Ernest Ranglin, Branford Marsalis, African Jazz All Stars, Roy Ayers, David Byrne, Damon Albarn, Tony Allen amongst others. He is also the founder of the Eko Brass band.
7. He is an ordained Ifa priest and is currently working on a tribute album for Ogun, the god of iron.
8. He is happily married to Kate Luxmoore a Jazz musician like himself and they are blessed with 3 children. The family is currently based in England.

Nairaland GeneralOlubadan Loses Daughter In Car Crash by joearinze(op): 3:44pm On Oct 31, 2016
The household of the famous traditional ruler, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji is in mourning.
Oba Adetunji’s daughter, Princess Mujidat Adejoke Adetunji-Alagbada has died in a car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Vanguard reports. The late princess has since been buried according to Islamic injunctions in Ibadan.
The Lagos-Ibadan expressway is notorious for ghastly car crashes that has killed many Nigerians in the past. Successive governments in the country have failed to fix the road which has practically become a dead trap for Nigerians plying the road. The appointment of former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola as the minister of works is President Muhammadu Buhari’s attempt to fix the road. A fortnight after his assumption of office, Julius Berger PLC and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) started work around Redemption Camp and Arepo areas at the Lagos end of the road. Julius Berger is handling section one of the project, which stretches from Shagamu Inter-Change to Lagos, while RCC is in charge of section two, stretching from Shagamu Inter-Change to Ojoo, Ibadan. The project is expected to be completed by July 3, 2017. PoliticsFg’s Bid For $29billlion Loan Comes Under Threat by joearinze(op): 11:41am On Oct 31, 2016
– The federal government’s bid to borrow $29 billion from external sources may be stalled – This is due to some institutional lapses and the absence of a substantive federal auditor general
– The office of the auditor-general of the federation is still vacant The efforts by the federal government to borrow $29 billion from external sources may not see the light of the day.

This is due to some institutional lapses in the processes and more importantly the vacant office of the auditor-general of the federation. At the moment, Nigeria has no substantive federal auditor general since the retirement of Mr Samuel Ukura in May. The tenure of Mrs Florence Anyanwu, who replaced him in acting capacity has since expired. Standards set by global financial institutions, such as World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and African Development Bank (ADB) require a confirmation report from a substantive auditor general before funds are disbursed to recipient countries. The chairman of the Senate committee on Appropriation Senator Danjuma Goje was the first to bring the issue to light.

He made the observation during an interactive session with the minister of finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun and her counterpart in the budget planning ministry, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma last week. “I just hope that the Federal Government will succeed in obtaining these loans with the situation on ground,” a concerned Goje told his audience. Mrs Adeosun, however, assured the Goje-led committee that steps were being

It is not clear why the federal government has not appointed a new auditor-general. The office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), in May, directed the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) to prepare to appoint a federal auditor-general. In response, in July, the FCSC shortlisted and forwarded names of three candidates for the position to President Muhammadu Buhari. The candidates were Christopher Nyong, Nabasu Bako and Omoniyi Adeyeye. The president is said to have since forwarded their names to a seven-man committee to determine the best man for the job. Media reports however say the seven-man committee submitted its report and recommendations for approval by the president, but the report has not been acted on.
Meanwhile, crisis is brewing between the between the executive and the federal legislature over the federal government plan to borrow more money. Media reports suggests the main problem is the refusal of the Buhari government to indicate if part of the loans would be used to finance zonal intervention programmes otherwise known as constituency projects by federal legislators. The legislators are also believed to be agitated over a separate request by Buhari for a virement of N180.8bn from the 2016 budget.

PoliticsOndo APC Slams Mimiko Over Visit To Buhari by joearinze(op): 11:17am On Oct 31, 2016
– APC has described Governor Mimiko’s visit to President Buhari as shameful
– The opposition party in Ondo state says Mimiko should take a queue and learn from its management The All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed Dr Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state following his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa. Recall that Mimiko had visited Buhari after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday, October 28, confirmed Jimoh Ibrahim as the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate.

But in a statement by Abayomi Adesanya, the APC state publicity secretary said: “The mission of Governor Mimiko to Mr. President, on the crisis rocking the Ondo PDP over the party’s governorship candidature, cannot be understood by many. “Has Governor Mimiko gone to complain to President Buhari as the leader of PDP? Now, if he has gone to complain to the President what does he (Mimiko) want the President to do against the (INEC) and the courts that ordered INEC to recognize Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim as the authentic PDP governorship candidate in the 2016 November 26th election?
“Is Governor Mimiko portraying that the president is the one directing and controlling INEC and courts by going to report to him? “When has the President become the appellate Court to the High Court that he (Mimiko) has to report to him, on a matter already ruled-on and decided by court of competent jurisdiction? “If, Governor Mimiko, as the Chief Security Officer of the State, has gone to the President on security matters, is he (Mimiko) saying the entire Ondo state police command, Department of State Security (DSS), National Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the Military Command in the state cannot curtail the crisis? “Is it not shameful, Mr. Governor that, you being the leader of PDP in Ondo state, and the chairman PDP Governors’ Forum in Nigeria, cannot abate little misunderstanding in the state chapter of his party? We advice you take a queue and learn from Ondo APC in party management.” Meanwhile, there are indications that the PDP faces the imminent danger of massive defections of its loyalists in Ondo state, following the cloud of uncertainty surrounding Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s preferred choice for the governorship ticket, Eyitayo Jegede. According to reports, PDP leaders concerned to the plight of Mimiko are currently parleying with chieftains of the APC in the state with a view to forming an alliance that may displace other political parties whose candidates are in the race in the forthcoming governorship poll.

PoliticsShi'ites Claim Security Operatives Plan To Carry Out Massacre by joearinze(op): 3:11pm On Oct 28, 2016
The Shi’ite group alleged that southern Muslims and Christians in the north will be killed by security operatives – The group claimed this is part of the plan to disrupt their own religious trek – It called for the unconditional release of its leader, El Zakzaky who is in detention The Islamic Movement in Nigeria known as Shi’ites have claimed that they have uncovered a plan by security operatives to massacre southern Muslims and Christians. The religious sect that has been outlawed in Kaduna and some other states said there was also plan to disrupt its religious trek. Daily Post reports that Ibrahim Musa who is the media forum president of the religious sect in a statement said its planned trek was purely religious which should not be a problem as people have trekked for political reasons without causing any problem.

The statement read: “It has come to our notice that security agents have perfected plans to cause mayhem during our annual symbolic Arbaeen trek, commemorating a similar trek the Umayyad ruler Yazid subjected family members of Prophet Muhammad (AS) to, from Karbala to Damascus in the year 680AD. “This trek is a religious duty, which the faithful embark on, as a mark of answering of the call to help of Imam Hussein (AS) on the plains of Karbala, which many quotations of our Prophet (S) enticed faithfuls to answer, even if it were to be by crawling. It is purely symbolic and is done by millions of faithfuls worldwide. “In Nigeria however, opponents who do not want anything of that tyranny against the family of our Prophet (AS) remembered and exposed had always used various plots and evil schemes to demonize the symbolic trek and even stop it by hook or crook means and the use of force “We have observed that the idea of trekking to mark or celebrate an event is not alien or new after all. Several people trekked much longer distances to celebrate the victory of President Buhari at the polls last year with pomp and pleasantries. “That was a political trek. Ours is a solemn trek and a religious duty. We never force anyone to embark on it, we never molest anyone from start to finish and we must be allowed to exercise our religious obligation. “This year however, credible sources have confirmed to us that they plan to attack the trekkers in various guise at multiple locations and also burn residences and business premises of the trekkers back in their towns while they are away on the trek.

“This evil plot involves the use of thugs along all the routes, who would attack especially at night while the trekkers take a rest in camps, kill as many as possible and raze their temporary shelters. Transporters will also be threatened with destruction of their vehicles if they allowed them to be used in anyway for the symbolic trek. “Part of the plot also involves telling hospitals not to accept victims of their planned attacks for treatment. “A list of very prominent members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has also been drawn, and the later are to be targeted for assassination in this devilish scheme. “It has been arranged that southerners both Muslims & Christians that reside in the north will be killed in order to create an influx of refugees from North to Southern part of the country. All these are what the exposed plot called measures to be taken in the short term. “The long-term plans involve the continued use of paid preachers, who would intensify the hate preaching against IMN, and these will be availed with various facilities to ease their assignment. “Furthermore, it was also agreed that more civil organisations will be bankrolled to keep denting the image of IMN in and outside the shores of this country. This they said must be taken seriously because the IMN is garnering sympathy and support from unexpected quarters in and outside the country, which they resolved to halt and reverse by all means possible. “The Islamic Movement in Nigeria would however once more like to assure the general public and well-meaning Nigerians as well as the international community that the annual symbolic Arbaeen trek, which comes up in few weeks time, remains a peaceful religious duty to be conducted by faithfuls as have been done in the last five years since it was started. READ ALSO: Again! Shi’ite, youth clash in Kaduna, 2 confirmed dead “It is on record that not even last year, when security agents under the cover of Boko Haram detonated a bomb killing 32 persons along the Kano axis, was the trek even disrupted talk less of turning violent. In spite of the spurious allegations of blocking roads, an unjustified charge, we do not prevent motorists and other road users from using the roads. It is also on record that we lost quite a number of persons in previous years who were knocked down by reckless drivers during the trek, which would not have happened if we blocked the roads or prevented others from using the roads. “IMN is being vigorously persecuted by all levels of government, using all coercive apparatus of state, clearly in flagrant violation of our right to religious gathering and association.
These efforts by security forces to scuttle the annual symbolic Arbaeen trek must be seen in that light. We therefore draw the attention of the public and the international community that whatever happens to IMN members during the trek, the Nigerian authorities must be held responsible. “Lastly, we still demand for the unconditional release of our incarcerated leader, Sheikh Zakzaky and all those in detention since the December 2015 Zaria massacre by the Army.”

PoliticsBuhari Plans $10b Development Fund For Niger Delta by joearinze(op): 12:45pm On Oct 28, 2016
– The Nigerian government seems tired of the struggle in the Niger Delta and has now decided to act in the interest pf peace – Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for Petroleum, has revealed what government plans to do in the region The federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari is planning a $10 billion infrastructural investment programme in the Niger Delta, Premium Times has reported. The report quoted Buhari as revealing this in Abuja while unveiling the Seven Big Wins roadmap, a short to medium term strategy framework to grow Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
To ensure the project is successful, as well as bring peace to the oil-producing region, the president said he would soon meet with leaders from the Niger Delta area. Buhari said his government was tired of the terrible situation in the Niger Delta which involves violent attacks on oil installations by militants and agitators. He said the region must now be secured and that the people must live in peace and enjoy prosperity through positive investments and infrastructural development. Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for Petroleum, also reportedly said: “Niger Delta security is key to our development priorities,” Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, said at the unveiling. “On Tuesday, the president we will be meeting with the Niger Delta stakeholders of oil producing areas. It is important we continue to sustain the institutional engagement and negotiations that are key to do this work. “Our target is zero militancy by middle of 2017, and an incident reduction in the region by 90 percent by 2018. “Whatever shutdown experienced by middle of next year, we expect it to be production stoppages and not militancy issues. We must resolve current militancy problems ad bring back oil production to 2.2 million barrels per day. “We are working with the oil sector players to begin to find solutions to our cash call problems. We need to create stability incentive schemes, jobs and investment opportunities in the Niger Delta zone. “We are targeting 30 per cent cost savings, which we can link to transparency.” He said the fund meant for the Niger Delta will not be part of the budget, adding: “What is most important is not the amount of the fund; it’s the conceptualization of that funding. Governors will have to come together as a regional block to look at cross-state investments in roads, railways, town facilities or specialist hospitals. “We are going to pool in energy and ensure we look at cross border investments to strengthen the region.” He further revealed that the government was taking a look into the amnesty programme to include absorption of some of the trained former militants and funding for those who want to start up their own businesses. The minister said: “My vision is to encourage private sector to go into Lake Chad basin and find oil. We are targeting to raise over $5 billion in short term funds for this, and over $20 billion in medium to long term funds. “We need to cut contractual times for average of two years to average of three to six months. We need to reduce government stronghold on the oil sector, so that the private sector can flourish grow in leaps and bounds.”

From 12 noon they can do everything. After then, the Apostle will do his own to bring down the power of God. “This challenge has gone into internet and social media; it involves the universe: India, United States of America, Europe, China, among others. I insist that there must be a clear demarcation of who the Supreme Being is.”

Nairaland General43% Of Nigerian Girls Pregnant Before 18 - UN Report by joearinze(op): 9:32am On Oct 26, 2016
– The latest report by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has revealed that almost half of girls in Nigeria are impregnated before they clock 18 years.
– The report noted that Nigeria alone accounts for 47 per cent of out-of-school girls. The out-of-school rate differs between boys and girls The latest report by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has revealed that almost half of girls in Nigeria are impregnated before they clock 18 years. The report titled “State of the World Population 2016”, noted that Nigeria alone accounts for 47 per cent of out-of-school girls. The out-of-school rate differs between boys and girls. The report sought to ensure girls get adequate care and support they need from their parents, society and government to enable them become successful in future. Deputy country representative of UNFPA, Mr Eugene Kongnyuy, said while giving the overview of Nigeria’s portion of the report: “If we look at data from Nigeria, we find that 43 per cent of girls get married before 18, and 17 per cent of them even before 15. “We notice that for girls that are not in school, the percentage is even higher, it is 82 per cent. They will get married before 18. But, this varies between states. “In the South-East states, it is just 10 per cent. In the North-West, it is 75 per cent. You see how things happen in geographic variations. “For children who have completed secondary school, only 13 per cent of them get married (immediately) after secondary school. This is disastrous, we have to change this. We must change. We cannot achieve the SDGs if these figures remain the way they are.” Kongnyuy explained that more than half of 10 years old girls are living in countries with highest level of gender inequality, and that if countries of the world do not tackle discrimination, the expected rate of growth would not be achieved. “Nigeria alone accounts for 47 per cent of out-of-school girls. The out-of-school rate differs between boys and girls. “There are more boys in school than girls, although the out-of-school is still high for both. “We equally noticed that even in some areas, like in the north, two-third of girls participate in generating household income. “Less than one percent of them have a bank, which implies that they are working for other people, they are not paid for what they are doing.’ “Almost 11 million of children in junior secondary age are out of school. And, almost five million children of primary school age are out of school. “Now, this is what we do concerning child labour when we do analysis of data from different countries. “We realize that child labour rates are higher in countries with the highest proportion of 10 year old population. “What does this imply? It implies that when there are many children, and this is because in a family, you have 10 children, and you are not ready to feed those 10 children. They have to work. So, there must be child labour somewhere. Dependency ratio here is high. In those countries, they force children to work,” he added.

Information available to NAIJ.com shows that the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Ekpo Nta, has been been ordered to embark on compulsory leave. The Eagle reports the Vanguard as confirming that Nta was asked to proceed on leave giving the impression that he may have been subtly fired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reports say the presidency is not comfortable with the way the ICPC under Nta had handled corruption cases against some high-profile Nigerians. Staff of the anti-graft agency have also complained about poor management causing disaffection and inefficiency. The report said a letter to that effect from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, asked Nta to proceed on compulsory leave beginning from October 26. The report said Nta, appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2011 and confirmed in 2012 by the Senate, had earlier ignored two previous letters from the office of the SGF asking him to embark on comlsory leave.. Vanguard reports that Nta had argued before President Buhari recently that his tenure would end on November 17, 2017, while the president said records available to him showed that he was to leave office as ICPC chairman on November 17, 2016. The report said Nta would inform staff of the ICPC today, Wednesday, October 26 of his leave.

Christianity EtcSale Of National Assets: Bishop David Oyedepo Advises FG by joearinze(op): 5:19pm On Oct 24, 2016
– The founder of Covenant University and Living Faith Church David Oyedepo has advised the federal government on the sale of national assets
– Oyedepo encouraged the sale of Nigeria’s intellectual resources rather than its national assets
– He also assured that the Covenant University would continue to set a benchmark in the deployment of Information and Communication Technology, financial efficiency and good governance

The founder of Covenant University and Living Faith Church David Oyedepo has added his voice to the controversy trailing the sale of Nigeria’s assets, the Nation reports. Speaking over the weekend in his address at the seventh inaugural lecture series for Covenant University, themed: “Deconstructing the national development agenda: The role of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs)”, Oyedepo said rather than sale national assets, the government should look inward. The Bishop said Nigeria has massive intellectual resources that can the sold globally. The lecture, a part of the activities for the institution’s 14th anniversary was presented by a professor of Computer Science and immediate past vice chancellor of the university Charles Ayo. The lecture also formed part of activities marking the university’s 14th anniversary. Oyedepo said: “Sell intellectual capital, not national asset.
”He also said Nigerians love for foreign good will continue to grow until except both the leadership and the masses remain committed to the Nigerian project. “I have been to Ghana. Many of the schools they have there are glorified secondary schools; but Nigerians still go there because many have lost interest in our education and government is not helping matters,” Oyedepo said. “We must admit that we have problems from education to health to governance. However, problems are like a sore, which keep enlarging if they are not attended to. “The problems are obvious but God has deposited adequate resources to deal with them. Let us see these challenges as potentials to leap into the future that we all anticipate,” he said. He called on leaders to open greater opportunities for Nigerians to thrive through Open Distance Learning. He said, an educated citizen can always add value to the nation’s economy. “Even if government does not have up to N40 billion, let’s know what they have. But if they claim they have nothing, then there is no value because every developed society thrives on education that is well-funded,” he said. He also assured participants that Covenant University would continue to set a benchmark in the deployment of ICT, financial efficiency and good governance.
“Nigeria produces less leaders, but mass produces miscreants,” Oyedepo added. Meanwhile, since news broke on the sale of national assets, the presidential in a move has also put up two out of its ten presidential jets for sale. From an estimate based on the market value, the federal government is expected to realize N20 billion from the sale of the two presidential jets.

Tears stream down Buhari's face as little girl begs him
– President Muhammadu Buhari determination to rebuild the Northeast region is not in doubt – The president’s determination may have been fueled by a particular encounter with a little orphan – The emotional encounter was documented in the president’s recently launched biography A little girl in one of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Adamawa state made tears stream down the eyes of Buhari earlier this year when the president visited the IDPs.
According to Professor John Paden, President Buhari was inspecting the IDP camps in Adamawa state when the little girl, who is an orphan, approached him. This was revealed in Paden’s recently launched biography of the president titled: “Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria.’’ In page 226 of the book, Paden wrote: “When President Buhari had inspected some of the camps; tears were seen to stream from his eyes. “On one occasion, a two-year old orphan girl ran up to him and begged, “Take me with you.’’
Paden painted the picture of an average IDP camp when he wrote that, “The Nigerian government and the international community would have to act quickly to prevent mass starvation and a refugee crisis of major proportions. “The security situation as far from settled. Yet with 3 million IDPs in camps – including both government camps and some of the informal zawiyas run by Muslim Sufi organisations – and many more stuck without resources, major assistance was required.’’ A compassionate president, President Buhari has contributed his own quota to the welfare of IDPs as seen in the video below

– Pastor Tunde Bakare has faulted the economic policies of Mr Buhari which he said have failed to yield the desired results in the past 18 months of his administration
– Mr Bakare said the recession currently experienced in Nigeria “is an opportunity for the church to take responsibility for the destiny of Nigeria”

President Muhammadu Buhari’s vice presidential candidate at the 2011 election , Pastor Tunde Bakare has faulted the economic policies of Mr Buhari which he said have failed to yield the desired results in the past 18 months of his administration. Speaking in Abuja at a lecturer at the 14th year anniversary of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Asokoro, Abuja on the topic: “Church and economic recession”, Mr Bakare said the recession currently experienced in Nigeria “is an opportunity for the church to take responsibility for the destiny of Nigeria”.
“In the past 18 months, attempts at salvaging the economy have not yielded lasting results. While the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) shrunk by 0.36 percent as at the first quarter of 2016, production dipped by 2.06 percent as at the second quarter. Evidently, Nigeria’s recession is largely self-inflicted and could have been avoided,” the pastor was quoted by Sun.

He recalled that price of oil peaked at $145 per barrel around 2008 and, after a brief fall, rose and, subsequently, hovered around $100 until December 2014, when it began to crash. But, the biggest oil boom experience, he said, fell into the hands of an unprepared leadership. “Hence, with our revenue unaccounted for in the preceding boom era, and with reported massive looting through oil subsidies and diverted defence budgets, the present government inherited a Nigerian economy in dire straits. Mr Bakare who is the convener of Save Nigeria Group (SNG) said he never regretted occupying the street in January, 2012, following the fuel subsidy removal by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“I have no single regret about my action in 2012. If I have another opportunity, I will do it again. Save Nigeria Group (SNG) campaign was not about fuel subsidy, but against corruption. We insisted on ‘kill corruption and not Nigeria’. It was corruption in that government that we fought. “We simply made the then government to understand that sovereignty belongs to the people and we demonstrated it through our actions. And we will do it again and again if time demands for it,” he said. Meanwhile, Niger Delta Avengers says it will resume bombing of oil facilities if government made any further mistake to enter into negotiation with selfish leaders in the region.
