Senior lawyer, Femi Falana calls for loans allegedly granted Deposit Money Banks by former governors of the CBN to be investigated – Falana says he will apply for an order of Mandamus to compel the EFCC to investigate and prosecute the Deposit Money Banks over the loans – According to the lawyer a former CBN governor gave out $7bn to 14 banks in 2006 while the sum of $5bn was also given to some banks by another CBN governor in 2011 Senior lawyer, Femi Falana, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the Deposit Money Banks over loans allegedly granted them by former governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Falana, according to The Punch, said it was important to know if the huge sum had been paid back to the treasury. Speaking at a dinner organised by the executives of the Senior Staff Club of the University of Ibadan in honour of members recently appointed by the federal government, the lawyer said the loans were given between 2006 and 2011. Falano who noted that the EFCC had not yet attended to his written request, said he will apply for an order of Mandamus to compel the commission to investigate and prosecute the Deposit Money Banks over loans allegedly granted them by former CBN governors. “We cannot be claiming to be broke when money given out as loans or deposits are not accounted for. The EFCC must probe, recover the funds and prosecute anybody found culpable,” he said.

A frail pensioner who hadn't washed for 13 years and lived in a filthy flat with 'faeces everywhere' has had her life transformed by a kindly neighbour - who spent 60 hours cleaning her flat. Lucy Ashen, a mother-of-three from Fulham, had lived next to the pensioner for 21 years but only recently discovered the 'absolutely horrific' state of her one-bed flat in south-west London. After trying multiple times to enter her neighbour's flat, the elderly woman finally allowed the 39-year-old into her home when she got locked out. Miss Ashen was so shocked at the condition of her home she decided to take matters into her own hands and spent almost a fortnight cleaning it. She appealed for help online and strangers from all over the world donated enough food and furniture to fill her sparse cupboards and home. Probably wake up the next morning feeling awfully embarrassed that Y2K 2.0 was also a huge bust. And also hungover enough to wish the earth actually did explode.
