Crime / Plateau State Is Not A Ground For Revenge – Chairman Youth Leader Warns by joeheman(m): 10:42am On Sep 15, 2017
The Plateau State Youth Council expresses with rude shock the chaos and eventual disruption of calm in Katako axis of Jos metropolis which had threatened to escalate to other parts of Jos and Bukuru yesterday.

This acts of course is perpetrated by disgruntled elements who have no idea what we have been through these years.

As a people, we need to understand that there is a cost of war that cannot be calculated in economic terms. Unless one is living in an area affected by arm conflicts, it is difficult to understand the cost of war and yet appreciate the price of peace.

The aftermath of the Biafra war has left a scar in the history of our dear country and only those who were around and are still alive can better tell the story. Those who survived paid the price for peace.

It is with pain, yet a deep sense of responsibility that we appeal to the youths and the entire public to shun any act capable of causing mayhem.

We condemn in strong terms what happened yesterday in Katako axis and this should not be allowed to happen even in our wildest imaginations.

We state emphatically that Plateau State is not a revenge ground as hard and harsh as this may sound. What happened yesterday just goes to show we have got people with evil intentions amidst of us, who are also determined to bring confusion and unrest.

We call on the great peace loving youths and the good people of Plateau State, to display the strength of our collective will to deal with their evil, and make our society a better place to be.

The swift response of the Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Barr. Simon Bako Lalong is highly commended. This is an expression of leadership, character and responsibility. We the youths are in support of the dusk to dawn curfew imposed on Jos and Bukuru metropolis to curb further tensions.

We appreciate all security agencies that quelled the tension and restored law and order in the troubled spots.

We are calling on members of both the Igbo and Hausa communities in Jos and Bukuru metropolis to help the State Government to fish out the perpetrators of these acts and criminal elements in their midst and assure one another of their safety.

We are appealing to the media to help in deescalating the tension through their reportage and ensure that they are conflict sensitive in reporting this and other issues relating to conflict.

We are once again in support of the Federal Government’s resolve to ensure Nigeria is one and also we stand with all security agencies in working to ensure law and order is maintain while encouraging them to shun any black mail in course of their work.

We also thank the mature and peaceful response of the The Jama’atu Nasril Islam under the able and vibrant leadership of His Royal Highness the Emir of Wase Alhaji Muhammadu Gambo II and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad II and all Northern governors for the reassuring response and promise to protect our brothers and sisters from the south-east. He join our voices to ensure that that their safety is guaranteed.

We are appealing to Governors in the south-east to ensure the safety of all Ethnic Groups within their state and support the Federal Government in restoring law and order in the region.

Finally, I call on the youths to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies, as security is our collective responsibility. We must stop the trend of being willing tools in the hands of desperate citizens and terrorist. We should shun propaganda and the spreading of hate speeches.

God bless Plateau State Youth Council,

God Bless Plateau state,

God bless Nigeria.

Celebrities / New Beef: The Internet Is Having A Good Time With Soulja Boy & Chris Brown Beef by joeheman(m): 11:53pm On Jan 03, 2017
In a turn of events that no one could have predicted, the first beef of 2017 goes to Chris Brown and Soulja Boy. And obviously, the Internet is having a ball.

According to Soulja Boy, he received an angry phone call from Chris Brown after he dropped a few heart-eyed emojis under a photo of Brown’s ex, Karrueche Tran. Tran – who was simply posting a photo from her recent Jamaican vacation – became the spark that set off a spree of back and forths between the two artists. Also adding to the clusterf**k of foolishness was Orlando Brown, whose tangential beef with Soulja Boy also took a turn in the form of a new diss track. Needless to say, Twitter had enough material to goall the way in.

From who should officiate the Soulja and Breezy’s boxing match, to movie scenes that best describe their confrontation, to gifs that sum up all of our faces, in the source link below are the best reactions to the most left-field beef of 2017 so far.

Thank us later.

Music/Radio / Very Important: Reasons Why Some Artistes Don’t Succeed | By Joe Heman by joeheman(m): 11:06pm On Nov 21, 2016
Listening to AP’s poetry album, my fingers were itching to do something. I felt moved to write this article.

Below are reasons why some artistes don’t succeed:

First, what is Success?

According to my dictionary, it says it’s an achievement of an action within a specified period of time or within a specified parameter. Success can also mean completing an objective or reaching a goal. Success can be expanded to encompass an entire project or be restricted to a single component of a project or task. It can be achieved within the workplace, or in an individual’s personal life.

To some fans, a musician’s success can be measured by the number of followers and fans they have on twitter, some by the endorsements they bag from telecommunication companies, pictures they see of them balling with Hollywood celebrities, or maybe nominations and international awards being won and the likes.

To others, it could be a 5-star rated album, Sales of album rights to distributors for a reasonable 6-figure cheque? International recognition and collaborations, or maybe the mad love and massive rotations they get on air and online.

From my findings especially in my country Nigeria, nearly every family can boast of an artiste or two and every body wants these artistes they are affiliated with to be somewhat successful or achieve one or three things I mentioned earlier.

Well whatever it is you may be gearing for as an artiste, a lot of things may hinder or help your success. I’ve studied a lot of artistes and situations and I compiled a list of 10 factors or elements that may and have hindered many artistes’ successes in their careers as musicians.

I’ll speak briefly and fairly on these 10 elements below:

The Artiste

He/She (as the case may be) is the subject of concern here. They’re held responsible for the successes and failures in their career, regardless other possible factors I’d be mentioning below.

The artiste is responsible for the genre of music they embark on whether or not they have the talents to handle that genre. They decide what song(s) to write record or perform depending on what they’re inspired or forced to do. The artiste decides on success or failure with or without knowing it.

The artiste is the first person to lie to his or herself, they start the Lying Chain. They lie to themselves on how awesome their music is; therefore expecting everybody to adhere to these lies and just say anything to please their egos and emotions. This, my people is the basic problem most artistes find themselves today.

The Funds

Money plays a major role in the music industry today. Artistes need money for production, promotion, tours and the likes. It’s only mandatory that an artiste has enough money to kick start a music career. Nobody cares if you’re just an unsigned act anymore, you’ve got to have that paper to be able to breeze pass many obstacles.

Funds may come in from the artiste’s pocket, sponsors or even record labels. Without money, efforts may be wasted and honestly, time waits for no man.

The Producers

They are everywhere today. I mean, anybody with a fair knowledge of Fruity loops and the likes, has a computer, good enough headphones, a mixer and a Mic can pass for a producer today. These producers tell the artiste to bring some small change for a song. Forget the terrible music quality, the producer would never tell the artiste that his music is sub-standard or “wack“, after all that’s what the artiste can afford. Everybody is hustling right? The producer doesn’t care about their feelings or reputations enough to tell them that their songs are sub-standard. So long as they’re ready to pay, he’ll lie to them!

Friends and Family

They’re supposed to be the people artistes trust. Even if the producer can’t tell them the truth, they rely on family and friends to listen to their music and be sincere with feedbacks.

Unfortunately, very few artistes get to be told the truth about what friends and families think of their music. They feel they might hurt their egos and emotions, hence they tell the artistes their songs are going to make hits; which is what the artistes want to hear anyway.

The artiste is satisfied with what his “personal people” think of his song or songs and heads on to make promotional plans.

The Manager

Managers ought to be the ones who take the wheel of the artiste’s career, guide them through decisions and make sure they are always on track. So long as it’s official, the manager is supposed to be with the artiste. These days, the concept of artistes’ management is an apology.

Managers are supposed to be people who command a degree of respect from the artistes they manage and also have a say in what they do. These days, a manager is just a friend, cousin or an elder brother who fronts for the artiste who also fall under the category of people who fail to correct the artiste. Managers cannot tell their artistes what they really think about the music because he/she is really like a Personal Assistant and is not being paid for “opinions”.

The most successful artistes have people who they respect sitting over them and telling them, constructively, what they think about the music, the business and personality. There is always mutual respect. Regular reality checks help good artistes grow.

Record Labels

These days, setting up a record label is almost no big deal. There’s so many record labels scattered around the country and the world in general today. Artistes set up record labels, producers set up their record labels, publicists and even bloggers have record labels you know. I’ve seen some of them!

Even those who are lucky to be signed under good record labels still find themselves at risk of failing because most record labels these days do not employ the services of personnel needed to run a record label professionally. One of such personnel are the A&R reps who are responsible for the contents artistes send out. They review every song or songs an artiste brings to the table and give advices. Unfortunately, most record labels don’t have them present.

Publicists

There’s a whole bunch of them out there today, thanks to the lack of job opportunities and the laziness present in our today youth. Everybody wants to earn a living by just sitting in front of their computers these days; hence the struggle to get artistes to promote is very real.

Most publicists would never give true criticisms on artistes’material(s) because their comments may chase the artiste right out to the nest of another publicist. So they go ahead to accept the material(s), make efforts at distributing and promoting the sometimes “sub-standard” material. He “kisses ass” to get the songs on every blog possible and he’s on to the next client and really doesn’t care if people actually respond positively to the materials.

Bloggers

This set of people can make or mar your music career. They are a very important factor to your career because they ought to be the critics, not just download links providers. Unfortunately, most bloggers don’t criticize music. They just copy and paste whatever the publicist mailed them, drag the download links to their webpage and they’re on to the next post! What’s worse? Some of them don’t even listen to whatever music they’re posting nor encourage their readers to leave comments, hence no atom of feedback is left for the artiste.

OAPs

Everybody wants to be on an On-air personality’s good side because we want air plays and possibly, massive rotations. Artistes and managers buy them gifts and pay them handsomely to get songs playing at least 3 times daily. Do not forget OAPs are humans too, like the others, they got bills to pay. They don’t tell you that your song won’t be played for long because of it’s poor quality or that fans do not request for your song(s), they keep collecting gifts from you and manage to play your songs maybe once a day before they eventually stop. They may tell you to record something new for your fans just to get that song out of the way. Well yea, you “once” had that song playing on-air. Same goes to videos too.

Networking

Networking is very important for artistes. They need to connect to a large number of people. Being an artiste doesn’t make you a king! You’ve got to take your listeners, critics and fans seriously, communicate with them and get to know what they think about your music. Quit winning them over with recharge cards, truth is they’ll only stick around as long as you keep giving out free tickets and recharge cards to them.

Quit buying fake views/fans/followers, because honestly, it takes you no where. Who’d watch your videos, download your songs or Retweet your tweets? Dummy accounts? I guess not.

Dear artiste, endeavor to network with other artistes, producers and the likes. It helps a great deal and exposes you to a lot of things your team members may never tell you.

All that being said, managers, record labels & publicists need take control of the artistes career and show them how it can be done. Speak confidently to your artiste and make them understand all you’re doing is for their benefits.

As a musician, to earn the benefits of being a successful artiste you have to become successful. Give your time, resources and energy to create music people love and want to hear and then focus on ensuring that the supply is consistent.

Good luck!!

Agriculture / If Care Is Not Taken, Nigeria Could Face A Famine By January 2017 | Presidency by joeheman(m): 5:23pm On Nov 15, 2016
Malam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, has notified the general public about possible famine in the country during his radio interview in Kano on Monday, November 14.

EXPORT AND HUNGER
According to Mr Shehu, Nigeria would highly likely face a shortage of grains by January 2017 due to a huge demand in the global market.

He said: “A huge demand for our grains in the global market is creating an excellent environment for the mindless export of Nigerian grains across our borders and unless this is curtailed, Nigerian markets will be bereft of food by January next year.

Over the past year, providence has blessed Nigeria with a bountiful harvest of grains, more than enough to feed the country and to export to other countries.

At present, there is a high demand for grains from Nigeria, from African countries as distant as Libya and Algeria, and from places as far away as Brazil.

However, the ministry of agriculture has raised concerns about a massive rate of exportation, which could lead to a shortage of grains in Nigeria by January. President Muhammadu Buhari is not in any way opposed to or intent on tampering with that.

On the other hand, exporters also have a moral obligation to make their produce available to Nigerians who live within our country’s borders, to ensure that our citizens have access to food.”

Up to 500 trucks laden with grains leave Nigerian markets every week, according to estimates of the ministry of agriculture.

“The major markets involved in this exportation are: the Dawanau market in Kano, Naigatari in Jigawa, Bama in Borno, and Ilela in Sokoto, as well as three other main markets in Kebbi state.”

NIGERIA'S SELF-SUFFICIENCY
President Buhari repeatedly stressed his intentions to make Nigeria a food-producing giant, self-sufficient and independent of the imported goods and foodstuff.

Mr Garba added: “This noble plan could easily be defeated by the pull of the foreign market if food continues to leave our shores to feed people elsewhere. If care is not taken, Nigeria could face a famine by January.

Building our country into the edifice we envision it to be will require sacrifice and strategy from every single Nigerian. Let us remember that charity begins at home.”

President Buhari has already asked the ministry of agriculture to present a plan for the purchase of surplus grains to store in warehouses across the country.

Crime / 23-year-old Sentenced To 3 Years In Jail For Stealing Generator by joeheman(m): 1:05pm On Nov 09, 2016
On Wednesday, a magistrates court in Ikeja sentenced 23-year-old, Fatai Obadeyi, to three years imprisonment for stealing a generator valued at N60,000.

Chief Magistrate M.O. Osinbajo sentenced the accused after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

“Based on the facts of this case, confirmed report and the plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to three years imprisonment without an option of fine,” she held.

The case’s prosecutor, Sgt Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that Obadeyi committed the offence on Oct. 30 at about 3am at No. 55, Giwa Street, Ilupeju, Lagos.

Fatai Obadeyi, who resides at No. 3, Matomi Street, Ilupeju, Lagos was accused of stealing the generator belonging to one Mr Aro Olusanya. Sgt. Egunjobi also added that the accused took the stolen generator to the Mushin Area of Lagos where he sold it to one Ubong, who is now at large.

“But luck ran out on Obadeyi when he came back to the same area on Nov. 1 to steal another generator and phones. The convict was apprehended while trying to abscond with the stolen items and handed over to the police,” Egunjobi said.

He said the accused contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Foreign Affairs / #trump: Americans Are Calling Today “the New 9/11” On Twitter by joeheman(m): 12:19pm On Nov 09, 2016
Quite a number of stunned and dumbfounded Americans have begun to take to Twitter to express their chagrin after Donald Trump’s victory at the US election – with the significance of the date not going unnoticed.

November 9 is written in the USA as 11/9 – the reverse of 9/11, the most devastating day in the country’s history.

Almost three thousand people died on September 11, 2001, when four co-ordinated terror attacks rocked the USA.

But people – mostly Americans – are comparing Trump’s election win to that tragic morning, which is a mark of how passionately some feel he should not be in the White House.

Celebrities / Hehe! See How Lady Dressed “naked” For Award Ceremony In Lagos (photo) by joeheman(m): 3:26pm On Nov 07, 2016
On Sunday, November 6, Eko Hotel & Suites was shut down as the most anticipated event, the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), was staged live which had in attendance top music artists from all over Africa.

In an unusual manner, the red carpet which is usually held at the lobby of the Eko Convention Centre was switched as the organizers tried something different and had the red carpet at the ‘round about’ of the Hotel.

This made music stars, Nollywood stars as well as comedians to take a long walk and show off their gorgeous outfit in front of the camera.

To everyone’s surprise, a lady shocked everyone as she stepped out in a very revealing outfit. In what many would describe as been N@kkd, she was dressed in a ‘black-lace’ flowing dress without any sign of her wearing pant or bra.

Wondering why people will go for International awards and dress like that!

Crime / Woman Bathed With Acid After Accepting Married Lover’s Proposal by joeheman(m): 1:49pm On Nov 07, 2016
A 25-year-old woman, Ogochukwu Nwosu, is in a critical condition at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos State, after she was bathed with substance suspected to be acid.

It was learnt that Ogochukwu was at Ilasa bus stop, on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, when a man allegedly dropped from a motorcycle and poured acid on her. He was said to have jumped back on the motorcycle and fled the scene.

The victim, who sustained burns on her face, neck, breast, among other parts of her body, was reportedly rushed to LUTH by passersby.

Ogochukwu, who spoke with a PUNCH Metro correspondent from her hospital bed, accused one Mrs. Chidi, the wife of the man who had proposed marriage to her, as the culprit. She alleged that Mrs. Chidi had been threatening her on the telephone and through text messages when she learnt of her husband’s intention to marry her (Ogochukwu).

She said she had turned down Mr. Chidi’s proposal because he was married, adding that the latter persisted.

“On Thursday, I had closed from Computer Village where I work. Around 8pm, when I reached Ilasa bus stop, I dropped off the bus.
“I was about to cross to the other side of the road when a man dropped from a motorcycle and poured something on me. He immediately fled on the motorcycle. People came to my rescue and took me to the hospital.
“I suspect Mrs. Chidi because she had been threatening me before the incident. And while I was on admission at the hospital, she called and spoke with my brother, saying that was just the beginning,” she added.

Ogochukwu’s brother, Peter, said he recorded a part of the conversation with Mrs. Chidi on his mobile phone.

Peter said he reported the incident at the Itire Police Division, adding that Mrs. Chidi was arrested and detained for two days before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

It was gathered that the police admitted the suspect to bail shortly after the matter got to the SCIID.

PUNCH Metro learnt that counsel to the victim, Louis Nwaugbala and Anthony Obi, had already petitioned the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja, over the matter.

A copy of the petition, obtained by our correspondent, read in part,

“Sometime in 2012, one Mr. Chidi approached our client and started making advances to her and promised to marry her. But she vehemently refused the proposal. She told him that she was not interested in the marriage since he was already married.
“Upon Mr. Chidi’s insistence of wanting to marry our client and even making preparations to visit our client’s family to formalise the marriage rites, our client advised Mr. Chidi to inform his wife of his plans to take our client as his second wife, since both of them will be cohabiting in the same house.
“Immediately Mr. Chidi made his plans known to his wife, all hell broke loose as Mrs. Chidi started calling and persistently threatening our client’s life through phone calls, text and Whatsapp messages.”

The petition alleged that the suspect threatened to wreak havoc before December 2016, the purported month of the traditional marriage between Mr. Chidi and Ogochukwu.

It added that Ogochukwu was persuaded against reporting the threat to the police by Mr. Chidi, who allegedly promised to persuade his wife to accept the union.

It said tragedy struck when the victim was attacked while she was returning from work on Thursday, October 6, 2016.

Nwaugbala, the victim’s lawyer, said justice must be served in the case, adding that Ogochukwu must be flown abroad for plastic surgery by the suspect and her husband.

“That is the only thing that can assuage the damage presently done to her. She should be flown abroad for treatment,” he added.

When contacted, Mr. Chidi declined comment. He said,

“I cannot speak with you, neither can my wife. The case is under investigation at the SCIID. Go and speak with the police at Panti; they are the ones investigating it. We cannot make any comment.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She explained that Mrs. Chidi was released on bail because she could not be directly linked to the attack.

She said, “It was reported that the victim was bathed with acid by two men on a motorcycle. The victim alleged that she suspected the woman because she (the victim) is a girlfriend to Mr. Chidi and because she (victim) might likely marry the man, Mrs. Chidi might have planned the attack.

“Mrs. Chidi was picked up, made to undergo investigation and the command could not get any clue linking her to the case for now. And to protect her right, she was granted bail. Investigation is still ongoing to unravel what actually happened. Anyone linked to the case will be duly prosecuted.”

Politics / Controversy As Identities Of Nigeria’s Lazy Governors Are Revealed (photos) by joeheman(m): 12:20pm On Nov 07, 2016
Instead of wearing their thinking caps and coming up with ideas that would help develop their various states, governors in the south-eastern part of Nigeria have decided to remain lazy and dependent on the federal allocations, Chukwuma Igbokwe, the chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Enugu state, has revealed.

Daily Post reports that The Punch quoted Igbokwe as saying the governors are partly responsible for the poor development of the area as they have refused to harness natural resources in their states to generate additional revenue.

According to him, the effect of the financial crunch that has hit the country would not have been felt much in the south-east if successive governors had made positive impacts in their various states since 1999.

“The problem with the South-East is over-reliance on federal allocation by the state governors.

“Since 1999, the governors have been lazy; no attempt was made to harness abundant and viable natural resources available for revenue generation and development.

“The palm oil and cashew plantations, rice farms, poultries and similar ventures that were established across the South-East at industrial scale during the first and second republics are wasting away. They have all been abandoned.

“They can still be revived but the governors are not thinking about that, they only think of the monthly federal allocation,” Igbokwe reportedly said, while commending Anambra state which has been granted a waiver to export scent leaves.

While lamenting that the governors abandoned agriculture for federal handouts, the TUC chairman said: “I don’t see why the states cannot export palm oil and other agricultural products on a large scale.”

He however said the zone was not the most hit by the current economic recession facing the country as he added: “I can’t say that the South-East is the worst hit by the recession. Are South-East states not getting their allocations from the federation account?

Celebrities / How Ice Prince Refuses To Forget Where He Came From | Epic Homecoming by joeheman(m): 10:45am On Nov 05, 2016
Ice Prince is unarguably one of the biggest rap stars in Africa right now, but no matter what success has come his way, he outright refuses to forget where he came from. No matter how big Ice Prince gets, he keeps finding ways to represent and uplift his hometown Jos, Nigeria.

The Plateau state municipality affectionately known as “J Town” was one of the key characters in Ice Prince’s breakthrough in his music career. Ice Prince does more than just talk about his city. He works to give back, as well. He has donated loads of money to people, worked on anti-gang violence initiatives and actually visited high schools and tertiary institutes to meet with students personally. Only a hero does that.

So, it makes perfect sense that when the time came to make an album, he decided to name the album #JosToTheWorld. An Album that is pretty much unpretentious about its intentions, its a project from his heart.

He was welcomed in a grand style by the people of Jos on the 3rd of November 2016, everyone was reciting his songs and showering him love as he walks on the streets sharing his album to people. He was together with Blackah of Naija Ninjas, D Boy, Nanle Bishmang, Lyrical Dr. Smith, Sneaker Boi, BanuClean, Seemo da black Czar, P.K, Da Key among others.
