What could be the issue here I noticed whenever I'm on inverter and I'm using my phone while plugged in, the phone touch start malfunctioning, even my laptop trackpad and touch also malfunction when plugged in on inverter.. this doesn't happen on gen or NEPA. Abeg who don experience this thing b4
PS: I just noticed if i turn off extension socket, the socket light doesn't go off totally until i unplug the socket |

Abeg mak una help me put mouth 😔 JoeSef0: Hi everyone. What type of charge controller will be best to use for 5* 350w solar panels on a 24v system (2 220ah tubular batteries) charge controller should be 120k or below (in price) and also the ideal connection should be discussed
Also what brand of inverter will be suggested (min 2kva) Thanks.
Or if i go for the 80a mppt CC on the SMS sunmate Hybrid inverter i used for my previous installation. Will that be enough to handle the job? |

I already used an 8mm wires to run the solar into the house, does it mean I'll change that to 16mm or i just need to change the wire i used in connecting the panels together on the roof? olopan: Get a 16mm2 guage wire and connect all the solar panels in parallel since it is a PWM controller
A 12V panel is already 18V Vmp, which will charge your batteries just fine; at 24V, you will be losing a ton of power due to higher potential differences. |

Okay. Thanks. How do i know the self consumption of the inverter itself? dacool1: Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with the battery, you need to be sure of the self consumption of the inverter I guess it's almost 50 watts.
Note that Lead Acid batteries are fully charged at 12.6v, the 13.2 is just surface charge that disappears in seconds/minutes once charger is unpluged.
You can try charging with an external charger and charge at 14.5v let's see if there's a change |

Okay okay.. i get you now. Even the 5 pieces 180w 12v i asked about yesterday, i could have just series everything since the pwm charge controller has a max pv voltage is 100 Thanks Drgreatone: I never mentioned 12v, what i said was combining them in series would be better than the parallel connection u used. Ur 3 panels wud be giving you about 100v while the current wud be abt 8amps thus requiring a smaller guage wire and still within the hybrid mppt voltage of 30 to 400. In parallel, ur max volt wud ideally be 36v but in reality can drop to less than 30 at which charging capacity wud be poor or even absent. |

I have this mopower 1.7kva inverter and a 220ah tubular haustrom battery. After fully charged with either PV or electricity, the battery drops 2 bar out of 5 bar in the charge controller screen that's without load, just inverter. Battery is just 6-7 months old and I've been experiencing it since installation. I want to know if this is normal. It was charged full last night. The inverter screen indicated it was fully charged. But while nepa took light the bar and voltage dropped. |

Pwm. According to the controller configuration. The max wattage for 12v panels is 780w, while 180w x5 will give 900w if I'm to connect 24v i can use upto 1500w of panels Penuelseun: is the charge controller pwm or mppt, if pwm connect all panels in parallel |

Sorry i must have read you wrong Pv capacity is 300w 3 pieces combined to get 900w As for the hybrid i mentioned. That's the inverter. It has charge controller built in TechGeek777: Hmm, I asked for pv capacity, but you said it's "80a built in with the inverter. It's an hybrid one".
Do we now have Hybrid PV? |

Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by JoeSef0(m): 12:14pm On Jan 27, 2024 |
I understand all you just said. But the 300w panels i used are 36v in paper and it's definitely not 12v (I'll add a diagram that shows it details). So there's no way I'm gonna series 3 panels that arent 12v together, it's gonna exceed the max 48v input for the controller. I might be wrong. Drgreatone: Using a parallel connection wont allow u enjoy the inverter, its minimum mppt voltage is 30v. Connecting it in series would give u better voltage and u wud be using a smaller wire guage as the current wud be reduced. Glad ur feeezer worked on it. I just got same set up and even though by battery sagged to like 11.4 when i put on the freezer, it picked up at once. Mine is even bigger, it's the 310l size and load was around 140w on the inverter. U also need to change the wire btw inverter and battery, the manual suggest using a 22mm guage wire for which i used a 25mm for mine. Wud av used up to 35mm but didnt get around.

Thanks for the input everyone. After charging the battery well with AC and PV... I finally turned of NEPA and run the freezer... It powered it and when the load settled. I turned on all the other loads and the total was just 11-13% load. Out of the total 2kva. So i think everything is good now |

Just installed if for someone yesterday. This is my first using it also. Customer wanted a 2kva inverter on 12v, the sms inverter was the only one i could find in the market. I was gonna go for kartel 2kva 12v inverter. But i could only find the 24v in the market.. TechGeek777: You are the first person I have seen here using this inverter. PS: the sms sunmate inverter is hybrid with an 80a mppt Charge controller on paper
What's the idle consumption? |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by JoeSef0(m): 10:53am On Jan 26, 2024 |
Thanks for this.. the inverter is currently running the freezer now, there was nepa light before which was used to start up the freezer, when the light went off the inverter contained to run the freezer.. I'll turn it off and restart the freezer now that the battery is more than 50% charged. As for the battery to inverter connection, i used a 4mm double core cable (not upto 1.5yrds long) cos sms backup inverter didn't create more room to use fit in bigger cable to the battery port on the inverter. I'll try and see if i can double the cable. dacool1: It's your battery or cable. The battery may not be fully charged. Make sure the battery is fully charged then reduce the cable length and increase the cable Guage. I doubt anything is wrong with your inverter.
You'd be surprised it's hitting LVD due to the in ability of your battery to provide the surge needed to start up the compressor. You can solve this problem by adding one more battery to the set up and increasing the cable size.
I won't advice you to power your freezer with just one battery. You'd be exceeding the recommended discharge current since you will be powering other things/appliances too. Your battery would die in less than 2 years.
Forget that 105watts written on that freezer the apperent power is different which increases energy losses so in real life situation your freezer is using up more than that 105watts |

The battery and inverter are brand new. 240ah Xtra power tubular batery so i don't think it could be the battery. And whenever i put on the freezer the inverter will just turn off ac for some seconds and after i turn the freezer off it will come on again bor i manually off the inverter and turn it on again, which ia quite different from the Inverter screening overload sound. Also I've had same observation with this small 2000w souer inverter with a fridge. It was same reclamation (inverter turns off ac until i turn off the fridge, so i thought those small inverter don't really have much strength that's why it couldn't handle it. But this 2kva inverter is just a surprise to me mctfopt: That SMS inverter must be seriously overrated not to handle this load. I once ran a Scan Frost freezer (non inverter type) of 150w on a 1.5kva 24v Luminous inverter (on four nos 200ah lead acid batteries). Noticed the starting surge is like 6x the freezer's wattage rating as it hits a momentary 800w as it the compressor starts.
If the inverter ain't the culprit, you may consider the battery next. If the battery ain't ok or enough, the startup surge may drop the battery below the inverter's low voltage disconnect. |

Good day boses I just installed this 12v 2kva Sms sunmate Hybrid inverter. Owner has a cheat freezer of 105w. My concern now is, the inverter couldn't power the freezer even while all other loads are off. I know freezer has an higher startup current, i just thought the 2kva will be enough to power it.
My question is, what size of inverter will be recomendable for that size of freezer?
