madridguy: You think the reasons given is genuine? To me I don't believe it because I see no reason why CBN will claim they're paying some staffs to come to Lagos, rent hotels for them bla bla bla and they're trying to cut cost.... What happened to the CBN staffs in Lagos? I believe there's CBN offices all over Nigeria... Banking supervision is done by CBN headquarters..Its beyond what CBN in every state does..Lagos CBN is just like regular CBN branches in other states and the only thing they do is to handle cash...Even banks send their daily vault and other reports to CBN headquarter in Abuja. |

CBN must be relocated to Lagos, reasons given were plausible. In fact all government and multinational corporations doing business in Nigeria should be domiciled at their
This is why you have miners doing operations somewhere else but storing dynamites elsewhere.
Let oil companies go back to the Niger Delta!
FAAN has been moved to Lagos already. These northerners don't know anything. To them, everything is power and more power. All bank headquarters are in Lagos.70% of banking activities in Nigeria are done in Lagos. Cbn staff go to Lagos for inspection and at times spend 2 months there and would be lodged in the hotel and they will also collect out of station allowance which is waste. Being in Lagos will give them more time to monitor these banks very well..From the loan they disburse to form M they approve and cbn running cost will reduce. |

PassingShot: We southerners are many times unreasonable. Abuja is the FCT and so all ministries should be headquartered there.
Have you thought of what another president from the North can do to those ministries getting moved to Lagos? I think what the CBN governor wants to achieve here is to reduce their overhead cost. For instance, all banks are headquartered in Lagos and Lagos is where almost 70% of banking activities in the country take place. Now look at it, because of proper supervision, cbn staff will come to Lagos to supervise these banks and collect out of station allowances and hotel accommodation running into millions of naira. At times, they will be in Lagos for 2 to 3 months. I see this as a waste. When they go back to Abuja, the money they collect is at times 4 of their monthly salary. |

Encourage companies to invest in transportation but not be involved in buying vehicles that government cannot run profitably or successfully Did you read the post? Its an empowerment meaning it is going to be giving out to beneficiaries free. This is an opportunity for you to start asking your state governors and local government chairmen what they do with their monthly allocations. |

SmartPolician: Oga, they should decentralise this country.
Every organisation shouldn't have its headquarters in Lagos and you don't expect a chaos. Lagos is already a hellhole. People waste productive time in traffic and complain bitterly, but they can do nothing about it.
If we had a serious government, they will ask organisations to strategically move their headquarters across regions in the country and enjoy massive government support. This is how America spread its wealth, and not concentrate it around one state. We are discussing CBN moving it's headquarters here.Where would they have moved CBN headquarter to if not Lagos after Abuja?Do you mean all bank headquarters should be in different states? |

SmartPolician: Lagos is already full. Besides, Nigéria has 36 states and the FCT. Stop the obsession with Lagos and the FCT. Move things to other regions across Nigeria to benefit from government presence. How many bank headquarters are in other states asides Lagos?Their reasons for moving it to Lagos is justifiable. |

CBN headquarters can even be in Lagos being the economic powerhouse of the country after all,we have all national bank headquarters in Lagos which CBN is supposed to supervise..Now having some critical departments of CBN in Abuja won't make the CBN effectively monitor the banks.
There was a time when Unity Bank had its headquarters in Abuja because of northern influence on the bank. But for sustainability and more business opportunities, they had to move their headquarters to Lagos. |
