Hello Nairalanders, it surprises me sometimes when some of us just comment on issues without perusing them properly. merely looking at the source of the information you will realize that the finger of IBB and his cohorts are at work. Infact, I have a friend who work with this very paper 'the Sun newspaper' so the machinery behind all this stories should not be difficult to identify. One Mr Orji Kalu who has loose everything about his state and Nigeria and one General that no longer relevant in our politic. So Nairalanders shine your eye before it is too late.

Having gone through all the responses here I actually find out that the women folk are very wonderful people. They place so much emphasis on what they should not and shy away from realities. I can,t even imagine it that my newly wedded wife is fuming just because she kneel down for 2 second to give a piece of cake for formality on her suppose happiest day sad sad sad sad sad. what i see here actually open my eye to the confusion that this women liberation has brought into this world and our society in particular grin grin grin grin.

Romeo4real:
The practice of kneeling down to feed one's husband during the traditional ceremony is tradition, but it is clearly meant to signify a woman's submission to her husband going into the marital home. The husband/his family prostrating to her family in meant to signify their respect, and show deference to the family of the woman hey are taking from them.
I don't see many women complaining about the gifts, food items, lace, yams, etc, that the groom gives to the bride and is displayed at the wedding. After all, this is meant to signify that he can, and will take care and provide for his wife.

All these things are meant to symbolise principles that should be carried over and practiced in the union.
You see Romeo, the real issue is that the campaign about women empowerment are not properly channel by most of the campaigners and majority of them are misunderstanding what the whole thing is all about. Therefore, it has gone into their head and they want to be equal in all ramification which cannot work and thereby generating so much problem in the society and in the marriage front. Otherwise how can a lady who is on her way to the alter be complaining about mere kneeling down as a symbol of respect to her husband, just a symbol not the real thing. Do you know what they suddenly forget about their creator and the position He gave to them and want to re-order everything for Him (God). God bless them

That is more or less a show for the whole world to see whether you will submissive to hubby at home when others are not there. so if at the beginning you have started feeling that way then one can imagine when both of you have stayed for one year in marriage.
So what i personally think for any to begin to think that way at such occasion, the home front will not be easy for the man.

The natural order is, wives submit to the authority of your husbands, then husbands love your wives. But i doubt whether this order is being followed. should this responsible for the numerous breakages in modern days marriage?

Well all Nairalanders lets put our finger across because this is first casualty of those who want to oppose the presidency of GEJ without looking at their cupboard to know whether there are skeleton in there. So the question is not of vindicating him or any other person for that matter. If any of them know that his or her hands are clean he should stand up and oppose the presidency of GEJ come 2011 then every body will stand by that person because that person's hand is clean. Not that you have enriched yourself with stolen public money through forgery and every foul mean you now open your mouth widely and drive rough with it you must surely have a fatal accident with it and the result might not be palatable, that is exactly the case of Ogbulafor. So others mind your business if your hands are soiled.
PoliticsRe: Kano's Ex-Gov Alhaji Abubakarr Rimi Dies After Armed Robbery Attack by johnkaro(m): 5:36pm On Apr 06, 2010
I don't want to quote any one here, to start with as a human I am sad that the man have to died that way which is applicable to the rest of Nigerians who are dying in same manner every blessed day. But come to think of it this same man have being in the corridor of power since the second republic and still there till now, the question is, what is his impact to change the way the nation is? Any way this should send a signal to them all who are stil jumping from one corridor to another over there in Abuja that one day they will also leave the world stage but how we don't know. I sincerely pray it should not be through the way of Rimi, then if they don't want it that way they (politicians) should work hard to achieved things that will better the lives of all Nigerians not to be stealing money all through their stay in office.

Yar’Adua’s mother denied access to him

The hide and seek game over the true state of health of ailing President Umar Musa Yar’Adua continued yesterday, as his mother was denied access to him.
Competent sources close to the Yar’Adua family told Saturday Sun that the president’s mother, who led other concerned family members to Abuja, for the purpose of seeing their son, were told in clear terms that it was impossible to see him because he is still in the ambulance that moved him from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to the Presidential Villa.

The distraught mother of President Yar’Adua was said to have been told of the grave implications of evacuating the ambulance.
According to the source, Yar’Adua could hardly now recognize anybody, as he has lost memories of anything around him.
The source said: “Yar’Adua’s mother and those she came with from Katsina were told that they cannot see the president. The doctors told them that if Yar’Adua is evacuated from the ambulance, he would die.

“It took doctors, a few of who came with the ambulance airbus, one and a half hours to evacuate the president from the airbus ambulance into the waiting ambulance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport on arrival.”
Family sources also revealed that they had earlier asked for the return of Yar’Adua to Katsina but that the wife, Hajia Turai, rebuffed all entreaties.

Is a shame that emotions have overtaken simple reasoning in this Country called. Well, they "say common sense is not common to common people"

Nairaland GeneralRe: Couple Jailed For Selling Nigerian Girls by johnkaro(m): 12:46pm On Feb 08, 2010
mama-gee:
A couple were jailed Thursday after running a prostitution ring from an old vicarage in Wales using girls trafficked from Nigeria.

Thomas Carroll, 48, an Irishman, and Shamiela Clark, 32, his South African wife, controlled their multimillion-pound business from a mobile phone “call centre” in Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire.

Among the love-peddlers were six trafficked girls and young women, aged from 15 to 21, some of whom had been terrified into working for fear of breaking a “juju” oath they were forced to take during voodoo ceremonies in Nigeria.

Carroll was jailed for seven years, and Clark, a former love-peddler, for three and a half years, at Cardiff crown court, after both admitted conspiracy to control prostitution for gain and conspiracy to money-launder.

Carroll’s daughter, Toma, 26, was imprisoned for two years after admitting laundering the profits which, in one year alone, totalled more than £800,000.

After the case, investigators said the evidence suggested that at the time of their arrest, the couple were in the process of setting up a similar operation in South Africa to coincide with the World Cup.

The couple ran more than 35 brothels, mainly in the Irish Republic, from the rented Welsh farmhouse to which they fled after coming to the attention of the gardaí.

The Nigerian women and girls, who were not trafficked by the defendants, were among love-peddlers supplied to the ring. One girl rescued by police was just 14 when trafficked out of Nigeria, and 15 when placed in one of the Carroll brothels.

All came from poor family backgrounds, having lost one or both parents, and were promised a better life away from their remote, rural villages. One was told she could be a hairdresser, another that she would be put into further education.“Instead, they find themselves being issued with forged passports in different names and being taken to Dublin via various routes and find themselves in the hands of the Carroll family,” Mark Phillips, deputy director of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca), which was involved in the operation, said after the case.

“The first time these girls know they are going into a life of prostitution is when they are bought items of clothing, dropped off at a flat, and get a phone call to say ‘expect a male customer and do what you are told.”

They worked 12 to 15 hours a day, were regularly moved from brothel to brothel, and supplied with “necessities” – condoms, creams and lingerie. Food was brought to them. The going rate was €160 (£140) for half an hour, but they had to pay their money into Toma Carroll’s bank account.

Of the 15 love-peddlers caught in the police raids on Carroll’s brothels, some were from South America and Europe and willingly worked for him.But many of the trafficked women and girls lived in fear of juju oaths, made during “terrifying and humiliating” rituals they were forced into by traffickers.

One was forced to sleep in a coffin to “put the fear of death” in her. Menstrual blood was drawn into a padlock, locked, and thrown in the river to signify their lives were in the hands of the river goddess, said investigators.

Live chickens were killed and the victims made to eat the raw hearts. Fingernail clippings and pubic hair cuttings were taken, and retained, to “instill the fear of God in them” and show they could be “metaphysically” reached wherever they were. Often the girls were unclothed, and one was cut all over her body with blades, said investigators.

An important part of the oath was each was told they had to pay back, on average, £65,000 to their traffickers.

If they breached the oath, they would die, or their families back in Nigeria would die.

Investigations continue to track down those responsible for trafficking them out of Nigeria and those passing them through Europe to Ireland.

The defendants are said to have properties in South Africa, Bulgaria and Mozambique thought to be worth “millions”.

It is a shame that Nigerians are still perpetrating this satanic act to their fellow human in the name of money. But do you know the funniest thing they will come from their so call Europe and being parading themselves as big men here in Nigeria. Here is a world for them, they should know that after men's judgment there is one which is the greatest, the one of God almighty. God will judge them for the evils they have done to Nigeria and Nigerians. Now the Leaders of this country should also know that they are part of this too God will also judge for their role in all this.

Shoot2Kill:
I have read all your comments and I think it is time I butt in. I will love to say a lot of things but I will try to cut it short.

This rally has got nothing to do with IGBOS,this is a simple matter of greed. I am a Yoruba by the way. Please Nairalanders let us stop all this tribalism ,we are worse than the politicians when we attack other tribes.

Now let get to the main point of my comment .There are different types of Nigerians:

1-Uneducated but honest Nigerians
2- Uneducated and greedy Nigerians
3-Edicated and greedy Nigerians
4-Educated and honest Nigerians
5-Uneducated but naturally intelligent Nigerians
6-Uneducated and naturally silly Nigerians
7-Educated and naturally intelligent Nigerians
8-Educated and naturally silly Nigerians
9-Uneducated, silly, greedy, clueless overseas based Nigerians
10-Educated, silly, greedy overseas based Nigerians
11-Educated, good natured, intelligent overseas based Nigerians

The list is endless but these are the ones I can come up with on the spur of the moment. Our Mindset as Nigerians is extremely faulty. We need reset our minds and look outwards to see what other people are doing in other countries to make their country better. Unfortunately Nigerian is the only country in the world that seems to produce greedy ,corrupt and un intelligent intellectuals.
Shoot2kill, As much as I respect you view, I want to let you know that if this country is to move forward we the citizen of this great nation have to tell ourselves the truth and nothing but the truth. You are defending the Igboness (pardon me)in this matter, how comes any time they want to do all this their stupid propaganda is the Igbo's youth that they will look for. look at the Abacha time and now Yar'adua and not talking of the small small one that they have been doing underground. are they the only one possess the evil attributes that you listed as quoted? Pls the Ibo's leaders should call their youth to order otherwise, they will still continue to play the second fiddles that they have being playing for a long time to come.
