Politics › Mohammed Dele Belgore Set To Join Pdp by johnmartus(op): 5:43pm On Dec 11, 2013
Indications emerged yesterday that the Kwara State
governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of
Nigeria (ACN) in 2011, Mr Mohammed Dele Belgore, SAN, has
finally agreed to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Belgore’s new-found romance with PDP was informed by the
recent defection of former Governor Bukola Saraki and his
supporters, including Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, to the All
Progressives Congress (APC). Saraki is currently representing
Kwara Central in the Senate.
Though Belgore, who briefed newsmen last Sunday shortly
after addressing his supporters, had said he remained a
member of the APC, he expressed indignation with the
national leadership of APC for not considering the cause to
take away the politics of Kwara State “from the hands of a very
domineering selfish few”, apparently referring to Saraki’s control
in Kwara politics.
Sunday Trust gathered that no sooner had Saraki and his
supporters defected to APC than the PDP members in the state
tossed an invitation to Belgore to join the party and join the
struggle to demystify Saraki’s domineering influence in Kwara
politics.
It was gathered that the Chairman of the Federal Character
Commission (FCC), Professor Oba Abdulraheem who has just been
confirmed for another term of five years despite opposition Saraki
held a meeting with Belgore last week to invite him to the PDP.

Politics › Re: Senate Reverses 7 Year Jail Term For Social Media Critics by johnmartus(m): 5:01pm On Dec 11, 2013
diranfbi: After much pressure and negative publicity that came along with the bill proposed by the Nigerian senate to jail social media critics for 7 years, the senate has reversed the decision.
The suggestion should not have come to life in the first place, bearing in mind that Nigeria is a developing country with freedom of speech and information, and we know the advantage the internet is playing to achieve development.
Anyway, it’s good thing that they have changed their minds about the bill.

Punch reported that the Senate on Tuesday rescinded its decision to pass a bill that seek to jail online critics of the government seven years. By this the Senate had bowed to pressure over criticisms that had greeted its proposed bill on electronic transactions and fraud detection, which stipulated a seven-year jail term for any user of social media who post information that threatened the security of the country.

Specifically, section 13 (3) of the draft bill stipulates that “any person who intentionally propagate false information that could threaten the security of the country or that is capable of inciting the general public against the government through electronic message shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction, shall be sentenced to seven years imprisonment, or a fine of N5m, or both.”

The controversies that the provision of the bill generated after the public hearing two weeks ago, attracted negative publicity for the Senate.

But the sponsor of the bill, Senator Adegbenga Kaka, in company with the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe announced to journalists on Tuesday that the offending clause had been deleted from the bill.

“I have the permission of the senate leadership to announce to the world that that the section 13 (3) shall be deleted,” he said.

Kaka added, “The bill that I presented to the Senate, precisely on July 28, 2011, was a bill to regulate the electronic transfer of funds and after presentation, by the time we got to the second reading there was a remark that a similar bill was tabled before the sixth senate by Senator Ayo Arise.

“I was then asked to go and rework my own and marry it with that of Senator Arise. In the course of doing it, a bill for an act for the prohibition of all electronics transfer, all electronics transaction fraud and electronic transfer transactions in Nigeria and other related matters was presented.

“It passed through the first reading, and the second reading and last week, there was a public hearing by the joint committee on Judiciary, narcotics.”

phapi: People have started writing nonsense that President
Jonathan was not even recognised to give a speech at
the Mandela's memorial today. How about David
Cameron of Britain? Was he even mentioned? There
were over 100 world leaders at the memorial for God's
sake. It was a solemn mournful atmosphere and not a
compulsory speech giving or ego massaging kinda
thing.
Let's see what they'll come up with as the reason
Jonathan was not allowed to speak today. I know that
drunkenness story won't fly this time.
Opposition should just "GO-AND-DIE" if this man is
their headache
Jonathan is a big shamed to Nigeria's you cannot make Nigeria compare colonial master because Nigeria was know as center peace for African they campaign against the colonialism what did you expect David cameron of Britain to say? my br think twise before you typing your nonsensical on nairaland this is not a 2go room

of protests trailing the
inconclusive governorship
election in Anambra State,
chairman of the Independent
National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega,
yesterday, begged Nigerians
not to evaluate his integrity till
after the 2015 general

an interaction he had with the
Civil Society Election Situation
Room and Policy and Legal
Advocacy Centre, PLAC, in
Abuja, insisted that the tainted November 16 gubernatorial
poll in Anambra should not be
a parameter to judge his
determination to conduct free,
fair and credible election in
2015. Admits lapses and betrayal
Admitting that there were
significant lapses and betrayal
of trust by some unscrupulous
INEC officials during the poll,
Jega said the commission had intensified its effort towards
ensuring that corrupt elements
within its fold were weeded
out before the next general
election. The INEC boss urged members
of the public to come forward
with evidence against any staff
of the commission who was
involved in electoral
malpractice during Anambra election.

Politics › Re: Anambra Decides!(THE WHOLE TRUTH) by johnmartus(m): 2:19pm On Nov 14, 2013
ogologodimkpa: Anambra state doesn't have a place for his likes.
He sneaked into Awka Gov't house via electoral fraud and such won't repeat itself never! and not in Anambra.
It took a legal tussel and sincere men of the wig to drive the same ballot box manipulator out of Awka Gov't house declaring him and his seasonal fraud a rape on democracy.
Lepoard hardly change his colour but we've got this cat in the bag afterall. It would be the worst thing that could happen in Anambra had we been caught unawares.

Interestingly, all gubernatorial contestants are Anambra sons but Anambra having seperated the wheat from the corn its glaring who stands by the folk to possibly decide the future of Anambra citizens and Ndiigbo in the next 8years...

So the hired media constables who have never made it across the Niger bridge head except for their human cargo 3am deportation mission? Hocontinw many of these gambles would adopt his same character for a ward concillor in their homes?

In Anambra, we shall celebrate continuity, the peoples mandate and a true challenge to the lagos deportation insult...

LONG LIVE ANAMBRA STATE!
continuity abi? you we crying but you we not see tear for what your eye we see in continuity ask poeple of kwara state
