I am just seeing a lot of messages about "I can write SEO optimized articles". What's your niche? Is it every article you can write about? This is what differentiates beginners from experts.

LOL... you'd be surprised how much some Nigerians outside Nairaland pay. I think people come here looking for dirt cheap labor mostly.

Exactly. The first time I paid someone to work for me about 3 months ago, I paid him #3000 per 1000 words and I felt it was really small. But when I saw #500 per 1000 words, fear catch me o.

Calm yourself down.

Pictures and videos are coming to your shame. I'm coming with my strong testimonials at my time. Go and calm down.

Lol.....I have gone through all the arguments and I must say that the way you pay freelancers is unethical. #1k for 6000 words is really bad, and considering the fact that you have writing for a while, that rate is poor.
Besides, every freelancer should be paid immediately after their work.

I never said this is a platform for writing jobs....

But this platform attends to various sections of the economy and many good deals have come out of it.......

You could have as well drop links to some of the platforms you alleged to ( aside from the known ones Upwork . fiver and co )

If you check my profile, you will see that I made some posts recently related to Upwork and Freelancing. That's because I get most of my writing gigs on Upwork.

I am not saying that you may not see work here, but it's hard to find a really good one here.

From my experience, the best places to search for work are Google, LinkedIn and Twitter. People post high paying gigs on these platforms.

What should be the optimum fee per word then? In your opinion.

It depends. If you are just starting, then you should charge at least $10 for 1000 words. Anything less, in my opinion, is exploitation.

Mine was 40$ to rewrite a 20k words content. It was to be in batches of 10$ for 5k word. It was the worst lows of my life. I was broke, hungry and no wear to go. Every morning, my brokeness would stare me in the face and make mockery of me. I took the job,and started. I must say rewriting is harder than the Israelites walking through the Arabian desert.
For 4 days and 4 night I was working till I finished the first batch of 5k words only for the man to return it for revision.
I managed to revise it till he approved the final draft.

Ladies and gents, that was my last time. I didn't go back for the rest of the work. I ran away for dear life.

Omo grin grin grin cheesy You tried o....I can't o...just $40...Ha!

Quite unfortunate

That's because this is not a platform for writing jobs. Go out there and get jobs on freelance platforms. People are looking for your skills and are ready to pay for what you have.

I only asked this question because I saw that a lot of Nigerians are being exploited when it comes to freelance writing.

Due to lack of jobs, there are forced to accept what little offer comes their way and most Nigerian employers take advantage of this situation.

I have never worked for a Nigerian client when it comes to writing. This is because I know that Nigerians don't pay very well, so I had my eyes on international clients.

I got writing jobs through platforms like Google and LinkedIn. Presently, I am a freelancer on Upwork working for clients abroad.

I recommend freelance platforms like Upwork and Fiverr. They pay better than most Nigerian clients and you can even live off your writing sef.

For example, my worst pay was 50myr ($12) for 1,500 words and that was for a Malaysian client I found through LinkedIn.

My highest currently is $300 for 1,500 words and that's for a client from U.S.

There's money in writing. Just know the skill well and you can earn up to $1000 every month!

Working with Nigerian clients (especially on Nairaland)) is terrible 50 kobo or one naira.. Jeez

Exactly. They pay really little. Even if I wanna employ someone as my writer now, the least I pay them is #5 per word....they are human beings, not robots.

I have been on this platform for a while and have seen that some people actually offer just #500 per article....like that's really bad.

So, it just made me really curious. What has been the worst pay you have ever received as a Nigerian freelance writer?

You probably know me.

If you don't, I will introduce myself a bit. The name is John, and I am a "soon-to-be top rated" freelancer on Upwork.

Recently, I created two threads. One was concerning my freelance story while the other was for those struggling to land gigs on the platform.

Since then, I have gotten lots of messages from freelancers needing assistance with their profile and proposals. It somewhat hurts to see people not being able to make money with their skills, simply because they are not informed.

That's why I am currently offering a free review of your Upwork profile and proposal, so that you can have an idea of what's wrong and know how to fix it.

The testimony of one lady that had chatted me up made me really glad. She had issues with her profile, I helped her clarify some bits and she was able to land her first $30 gig.

If you guys are interested in this, let me know. Offer won't be available for long.

Pls someone should guide me how to copy write and how to open upwork and make money. I'm tired of 25k salary after graduating for 10yrs now. Help pls

Take a breath and calm down. The fact that you are a freelancer does not automatically mean you will be getting huge amounts of money daily. You need to work hard for it.

That being said, you have to take courses (whether paid or free) to learn copywriting, after learning, you can then open an Upwork account, study Upwork strategies and then start earning. Everything is gradual and it takes time.

I could have shared my story but I already did in other threads...lol.

Long story cut short, I was sacked during the corona period, could not get a job during that time, was frustrated and I started freelancing on Upwork.
Now I don't have to face employers issues and I am doing well financially.

Egbeosa Sunday.

Looking way back in the year 2014, immediately when I finished my NYSC service, I was eager to look for a promising company that is organized and has a good service as well. Less I forget I studied accounting in Edo University Iyamho, before moving to Lagos to serve and plan for my future.

Back to my story.

I shared my c.v to some of my highly connected friends to help out in securing a job for me, which I waited for several months with no positive feedback from anyone of them. I was forced to connect with an HR company to get the best job, which I paid 10k for registration with an agreement of getting 10% off my salary for the first 6 months of my resume in office. They said the money will be used to check, monitor and secure my activities in the office including but not limited to health and any other problem I come across in the company. Sounds protective you will say!!

Of course I agreed, paid and signed the agreement form that was giving to me with a big smile on my face, I submitted my documents having believe of working in a big company. It’s over 3 months with no positive feedback call or text from the HR Company. All this while I have being staying at home doing nothing, rather been asked by my neighbors if there is NEPA light since morning.

I gave myself an extra 1 week before visiting to know the state of my job hunt. On getting to their office I was told the person in charge of my job search case is not on sit, is either I come back next time or wait for some minutes for his arrival. I had to wait knowing fully well there is nothing for me to do at home, I took a sitting position and sat for some minutes, I was bored so I took a nap, about an hour later I requested for the person in charge of my job hunt, immediately someone stepped in and introduced himself as Mr. Vincent “Infarct I just finished sharing some copies of your document to 8 companies that are actively seeking to recruit new workers, which I assure you will bring forth a good result, you don’t have to worry yourself coming over to check I will personally give you a call”. I was happy to hear this, so I requested for his mobile number in case of any question from my end, which he gave me without any second thought. Feeling excited I head home hoping to get the best job within few weeks or month.

Now it over 2 months after my visit with the HR company, I remembered collecting Mr. Vincent mobile number so I quickly gave him a call and immediately introduced myself and asked for my job search result, then he started saying things I don’t understand “Mr. Sunday I was about to call you now the Lord sees my heart, we’ve tried all the company within our reach, but they’re not actively employing for now. Don’t worry there are other company locations outside our reach which we have connections to other agencies that will effectively get you your dream job, I only need you to send me 10k to be able connect with other agencies around”. That right there got me angry I had to hang up the call to avoid insulting an elderly man. With the pain in me I had to take a walk round the street, thinking of what next to do if I don’t get a job soon.

This is really getting serious there are lots of thought going on in my heard right now that I cannot pick out the exact one. Walked straight to the field where many of our community youths come together to play and have fun. I sat alone on a bench far from the goalpost trying to figure out the right thing to do, after some minutes right there I made a stupid decision that I believe would work.

I stood up and held my thought strong believing it will work out fine, so I went back home took some money, went straight to the closest market bought two black polo round neck then went to a printer shop to print on the cloths. This was what I wrote on them “Am a graduate and I’m in need of a pleasant job”. Funny you say? But I did it.

Early in the morning am always at the bus-stop with my cloth on, waiting to take a bus that will lead me to a populated company location where I will start walking round in search of any office job opportunity. I did this for over 3 months without any good result, I thought of giving up this plan but I just spent 5k buying and printing on my cloths.

Then I tried the second week of my fourth month of searching for a job, on my way to an unknown location, an elderly woman well-dressed stopped me and asked, if what was written on my cloth was just for fun or am I really in search of a job? As a sharp guy I quickly answered her, I am in need of a job and I got lots of experience in accounting plus am a graduate. After long chat, she gave me her business card for an interview in her work place very early next week Monday, with a great smile on my face I said “Thank you ma” and she walked passed me.

Got to the company very early in the morning like she said, then I was directly interviewed by unknown men, they were four in number and very intelligent in asking questions. To cut the long story short, within 3 working days I was called to start work on Monday for the position of financial secretary with a monthly salary of 120k.

Guess what!! The woman that stopped me and gave me her business card is the current and forever the CEO of GoldStripe Company Limited.

Thank you Bogger for sharing my story.

How was your Job search like? Kindly share your story.

Wow, your story is quite amazing. Thank God you were able to finally secure one that pays.
