Integrafamoo: I'm glad the thread helped you. Receiving payment is not a thing to be bothered about. Once the client pays you, you can actually withdraw your money straight to your bank account using direct transfer. You just need to input your account details beforehand so that it can be confirmed before the money is sent. If you did work outside the platform and you want to receive money, then you can use a direct contract. martinz23: I'm also a mathematics graduate. I did a 6 months data science internship last year so I can tell you that the data science/analytics field is very wide. To be able to offer the skills online, you need to be very good in it and that would take you a significant amount of time. If you are serious, then chat me up on WhatsApp so that I will direct you on how to get free Datacamp subscription for two months so that you can get started with learning. Just my little way of helping |

jimmiedave: First of all, know which one you want to take out time to learn. For free courses, you may be able to see some on Udemy, Coursera and Youtube. A quick google search will give you some answers. For a paid course, you can chat me up so that I can refer you to the one I took. |

Deerock: Figure out what skills you want to offer to clients, learn them well, join freelancing platforms and then start helping people with their projects using these skills. That's how freelancers make money. 1 Like 1 Share |

You can freelance on a lot of platforms like Fiverr, freelancer.com, people per hour e.t.c but I just prefer Upwork because its better organized and managed. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Learn high paying skills. Skills like - Copywriting - Content writing - Data science and analytics - Web development and design - UX writing - Virtual assistant - Email marketing - Social Media management - Coding - Graphic design Become a badass in one or two of these skills, then start offering them as services to clients on Upwork. There's mad money in these skills. For example, I do content writing in the tech and games niche and I've made a pretty good amount since I started. Also, some of these skills especially writing do not need a laptop. By just using your smartphones, you can actually earn hundreds of dollars every month. 16 Likes 3 Shares |

EyenIbibio1: If you have good writing skills, then you can surely make more than that amount per month. Just go on Upwork and be a freelancer there. Besides, writing does not need a laptop, I use my phone a lot for this. 1 Like |

PrinceMajestic: There are chess players in Nigeria. It's only that they are not given enough recognition. That's why it seems they are rare. If the government can just focus on the sport a bit, you will see a huge rise of players. 3 Likes |

Sinudyne: I checked your profile and will like to point some things out: - Headline - Your headline is not written well. Since you are a financial writer, why don't you dedicated the "all work" page to writing while the other profile is dedicated to "editing and proofreading". In that case, the " all work" profile has a headline like "Financial writer" and the other one should be "Professional editor and proofreader" - Bio - Your bio does not properly showcase the skills you are offering as a writer. No one is going to employ you because of "I have written and edited many articles".... They want to know what exactly you have written, what you have proofread and edited and if possible, see the samples in your portfolio. I'm sure that within the finance niche, there are so many fields there....you need to be detailed in your bio and demonstrate that you are experienced and will be able to deliver a good job. - Charge - Take away the $50/hr. It's not realistic as a new freelancer. Put in something modest there like $15/hour or $10/hour. - Portfolio - If you can add more samples, do so. Nothing more convinces clients other than seeing previous samples of your work. Well, this is all just for your profile. I believe the main issue will be with your proposals though. 3 Likes |

I vividly remember the day I wrote my first paid article for an international client. He was from Spain and wanted me to get a trial article done at the cost of $25 (About #8,000) for a thousand words. I spent my whole day writing the article and felt proud after going through it. The client loved the work, commended me and wanted me to write more for him later. But now, he had to pay me. He requested a PayPal invoice. I told him PayPal was banned in Nigeria so I had to get an alternative. I searched and searched and searched.....No positive results. The only way was to purchase courses from people who receive money regularly from clients, and I had no money then for that. I continued to search until I stumbled on Upwork Direct Contract. This feature recently developed by the popular freelancing platform (Upwork) was created to help freelancers and clients outside Upwork ease the flow of payments. It works this way: You create a contract which the client then accepts. After that, the clients deposit the money in escrow, after which the payment is approved after your work is done. In simple terms, Upwork direct contract is more of a middleman that helps in holding the money till the work is done. What about payment charges? Upwork direct contract charges 3.4% of the payment made by the client so if you finish a $25 work, Upwork takes just $0.85 as their charge....this is cool in my opinion. Besides that, you can withdraw the account straight to your account balance. You just need to pay *$0.99 for every transfer* so it doesn't matter whether you are transferring $5 or $10,000....the charge for withdrawing straight to your account balance is the same. When I found out about this method, I was extremely glad. So I quickly informed my client about this, he was okay with it...so I sent a contract similar to our previously agreed one, then he accepted, deposited the funds and I was able to get my money across to me that day. Note that the client does not have to be on Upwork to deposit money and pay you, in fact, the email you are sending the contract to must not be registered on Upwork. It's only the freelancers that need to be on the platform to be eligible to create such a contract. So how do you get started? - Open an Upwork account (It's important to appear as a professional to get accepted) - Once you get accepted, then go to settings and input your account details there. It will probably take a day or two for it to get verified. - Meanwhile, you are free to create a direct contract if you already have a client that's supposed to send you payment. - Receive your payment, and then withdraw it to your local receiving account. - Enjoy your cash Note that I am not against other platforms like Paypal, Payoneer and the rest. If it works for you, great! I even want to start using these platforms, but till then, I am satisfied with the direct contract feature. So far, I have received about $198 using the feature. I attached a screenshot of this. Let me know what you think. I am open to better suggestions too. 4 Likes
