By Anthony Zurcher BBC News, Washington A day after midterm Election Day with no definitive answer about which party will control Congress, President Joe Biden hailed a "good night" but he has immense challenges ahead. Republicans appear to have won or are leading in enough races to give them a narrow majority in the House of Representatives, but Senate control could come down to a December run-off election in Georgia. Even if Republicans just take the House, and even if they do so by the slimmest of margins, the power dynamic in the nation's capital is poised to shift after two years of unified Democratic control in Washington. Here are four very real implications for American politics for the next two years. Biden's perilous path ahead In a press conference the day after the midterms, Mr Biden claimed moral, if not always actual, victories. He said Democrats had a "good night" - in part because predictions of a Republican wave that would carry them to a large majority in the House and a multi-seat advantage in the Senate failed to materialise. Even so, Republican control of either chamber of Congress will present political challenges that Mr Biden has been able to avoid for his first two years in office. Can he keep his composure when facing a spate of congressional investigations? How will he handle budget showdowns that lead to government shutdowns? Will he be able to achieve any kind of legislative agreements that he can campaign on if he stands for re-election in two years? Most presidents suffer through electoral setbacks halfway through their first term in office. Some have faced even more significant losses than Biden's and bounced back to win another four years in office. The president told reporters at his post-election press conference that he still intends to seek re-election and may announce his formal decision early next year. How he handles the challenges in the months ahead could go a long way toward determining what kind of odds he would face in one final campaign after 50 years in public office. The end of Joe Biden's legislative agenda In their two years in office, Joe Biden and the Democrats were able to enact a fairly substantive agenda, which included massive spending on the environment, healthcare and other social programmes. That would all end with even the narrowest of Republican victories. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63527765

Oyetola and his cabinet members will surely be jailed after handover to Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke’s government on November 27th, 2022. |
Press Release 10/11/2022 90 Missing Jeeps: Osun PDP to Report Oyetola to ICPC, EFCC, Others The Office of Osun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Gboyega Oyetola to return over 90 vehicles already carted away by top officials including the office of the First Lady, the son of the Governor and other top officials. " We are compiling detailed petition to be sent to the anti-corruption commissions, EFCC, ICPC and others. We are providing details of the sharing of exotic vehicles and beneficiaries" In a statement issued on Thursday, the party announced that it is in possession of official records of number of cars, jeeps and other assorted cars already shared among the officials including ongoing raiding of key agencies for clean vehicles as parting gifts to leading officials. " We have documentary proof of about 15 vehicles with the First Lady, 20 top cars with the Governor's son, and about 30 variously shared to five other top officials. " We have records of about 30 other vehicles raided from some top agencies. In RAAMP, eight vehicles including jeeps, hummer bus and others were taken away. Other cronies including a professor based in Abuja also went away with a jeep belonging to a top agency. " We have full inventory of all the vehicles including the plate numbers, engine numbers and their state before they were shared out. We call on those holding the vehicles to return them before November 26th. "From November 27th, our administration will ensure the retrieval of the vehicles through administrative channels, anti-corruption agencies and criminal indictments. "Any official with government vehicles should return it to the pool. They are not personal properties but for the statutory offices and subsequent occupants of the offices", the statement concluded. Odi Aye Atunwa fun Oyetola Ati APC ni ipinle Osun. Oyetola case in the tribunal court of justice will be dismissed for lacking merit in the court of justice . Besides Oyetola has been disqualified as the APC governorship candidate in the federal high court in Abuja and Appeal court of justice will sustained the judgement too. |
BluntCrazeMan:Tribunal: Nothing to Celebrate in APC Documents Presentation; Adeleke Counsel, Osun PDP We want to note that we have been silent on Tribunal matters for the past few days in observance of the mourning of the sad exit of our Son, Ifeanyi Davido. We however find it necessary to correct the falsehood being spread by the APC over the Tribunal proceedings. We affirm that ongoing tendering of documents by counsel to Mr Gboyega Oyetola is not in anyway an indication of judicial victory over Senator Ademola Adeleke. In any case, before the law today, APC had no candidate for the July 16th election. Counsel to the Governor elect, Nathaniel Oke, SAN and Osun State Chairman of the PDP have both clarified this position after today's proceeding at the Osun State Governorship Tribunal. Mr Oke narrated that the petitioners are currently presenting their case which includes presentation of documents relating to the electoral processes. " The petitioners have time allotted to them. We will be challenging the admissibility of many of the submitted documents in our final address after which the panel will deliver ruling in their judgements. This implies that there is nothing special or spectacular about the ongoing presentation. " We should all be aware that after the petitioners have presented their case, the defence team will take turn to also make presentation. We will also present documents, call witnesses and submit hard materials. Our case suffers no setback as nothing has happened that signify any positive turn of event for the petitioner", Mr Oke explained. The defence team further berated the APC for engaging in media trial by pretending to be achieving mileage when the so called documents are just results sheets duly signed by APC agents and purpurted BVAS report. Rather than submitting the documents at a sitting, the APC further staggered the submissions across three days in a bid to sustain false narrative of good showing at the Tribunal. We accused the APC of a failed bid to win public symphathy as the exercise further confirms that Governor Oyetola has no chance of stopping the will of Osun people from materialising. Also speaking on the subject, the Osun State PDP Caretaker Chairman, Dr Adekunle Akindele said the party was silent since yesterday on the court proceedings because of the bereavement within the Adeleke family, wondering why APC operatives are embarking on false propaganda at a time of mourning for a prominent son of Osun state. " We have remained silent on the court matter because these are trying days for a top son of Osun state, Mr Davido and the entire Adeleke family. Let me reassure our people that Mr Oyetola is just continuing his failed media propaganda as nothing incriminating or damaging has happened to our Governor-elect at the Tribunal. " Our defence remains as solid as ever. The victory of PDP is a reality that cannot be upturned by a man who is not even a candidate in the election he is challenging", the party Chairman stated. He noted that "it is elementary that in judicial proceedings, petitioner and defence teams normally have allotted time to present their cases", wondering "what tickles petitioners with mere documents presentation at the Tribunal. "It is even surprising that the outgoing Governor and his APC who earlier declared that the petition will be the fastest are those now playing at the Tribunal while their time wastes away, yet dishing out lies and false narratives to members of the public in their desperate media voyage". " Let them know they are chasing shadows. Osun people have decided", the party Chairman concluded. E-Signed Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Governor-elect.
