I won't dabble on if the LG V series have notched screens or not but I'mma clarify some things.... the term "notch screen" came to live with the essential phone...as for me I prefer the essential notch to iPhone X..cos the essential has more screen estate and the fact that the screen wraps around the camera is so great to look.....the fact that most OEMs are copying iPhone X notch is due to the fact that Apple (iPhone) is a well known brand....few know the essential phone thus trying to be iPhone X wanna be....so design wise essential notch is better than that of iPhone X

LG is finally ready to join the other big-brand players in the 2018 flagship party. The G7 is officially here complete with the company's odd insistence on the awkward "ThinQ" branding.


Starting with the G7's face, perhaps its most prominent new feature is the notch. LG decided to buy into the current trend with its fresh new 6.1-inch 19.5:9 3120 x 1440 pixel display. It's an evolution on the Full Vision panel, now surrounded by even thinner bezels.

While it relies on LCD technology, rather than OLED, LG's fresh new M+ panel uses an RGBW arrangement, with the extra pixel intended to improve contrast and help in delivering a promised maximum brightness of 1000 nits. It is HDR 10 compliant and covered by a Gorilla Glass 5 protective layer.


As for the notch itself, LG insists it's a "new second screen". The company pioneered secondary screens with the V-series back in the day, but has switched its phablets to conventional OLED panels since.

Besides the notch, the LG G7 also features a hardware assistant button - a first for the company. Instead of going down the proprietary road, the Korean giant decided to stick with Google Assistant, effectively making this the first Google Assistant hardware key to appear on a smartphone.

Speaking of hardware, the LG G7 remains true to the double-glass design approach (Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides), with an aluminum frame (notably thinner around the edges than on the LG G6) sandwiched in between. The entire body is IP68 certified and MIL-STD-810G compliant.

The glass back enables wireless charging with the G7 touting both WPC and PMA support. You can also top the sealed-in 3,000 mAh battery, through the Type-C port, at up to Quick Charge 3.0 rates. Qnovo battery tech is on board, to prolong the battery endurance over the years.

Other notable specs on the LG G7 include a Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The latter is expandable via microSD. A flagship chipset also means the a standard connectivity set, including LTE-A, 3-Band carrier aggregation, Cat.16/13 (1Gbps/150Mbps) Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0 and Dual-SIM support in some markets....In the camera department, the G7 sticks to the tried and true LG formula, with a pair of 16MP snappers - one with a 71-degree field of view, the other, with a super wide 107-degree one. The primary module sits behind an f/1.6 lens and is complete with OIS, phase detection and laser autofocus.

The wide lens uses a dimmer f/1.9 lens, has no OIS and is fixed focus. The camera experience is boosted by LG's AI camera tech, as well as a smart pixel-binning technology for low-light shots. The secondary camera can assist with depth information for more convincing portraits as well. An 8MP, f/1.9, 90-degree camera handles selfies.

LG approached the G7 ThinQ design with its typical emphasis on audio. It rocks a Boom Box stereo speaker setup, complete with DTS-X. The latter can simulate 7.1 surround sound and it's the first time we are seeing it on a smartphone.

As for wired output, not only is the all-important 3.5mm jack intact, it is also connected to a high-end 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC from ESS. For capturing audio, LG has thrown in a pair of microphones, which promise an impressive pickup range of up to 5 meters. The Google Assistant should benefit from the extra range as well.


The LG G7 ThinQ will ship with Oreo , complete with LG's AI Pack 2.0. The company has already committed to releasing the Android P update once Google delivers the final version of its next release.

Color options include: New Platinum Gray, New Aurora Black, New Moroccan Blue and Raspberry Red. Pricing and availability will be revealed at a later point....

Well as for me... starting from hardware...
The essential ph-1 combo ceramic, titanium but sapphire for the front (from HTC U ultra)... reason for sapphire is because it's close to diamond on MOH's scale of hardness hence it's gonna be almost scratch proof....
I'm gonna choose Pixel 2 camera.... iPhone X processor with 4gig of RAM and 256gig room coupled with 4000mah battery...sammy's latest flagship display (preferably 6.2inches with a tall aspect ratio)..IP68... HTC boom stereo speakers... I'mma go for Android OS but in iOS format due to there software optimization... Huawei RS biometric (rear fingerprint and under display fingerprint) since Samsung uses AMOLED panels...well for price..btw $700-$800

It's because they lack good marketing team and they face Samsung for the flagship phone race which is a battle that is difficult for any company to win right now. The only phone maker that can stand against Samsung right now is huawei, with the way they are going I see them displacing Samsung in a few years.

It's not just LG, where are Sony, HTC and co. These companies use to be relevant in the flagship phone race but now they aren't. In fact Sony and HTC have been operating on a loss for a few years now. LG realized this and this is why they tend to put older chips on their flagship phones to save cost. If Samsung sell their phones for $800 LG will sell theirs for $650 or $700 unlike Sony and HTC that still try to sell their phones same price as Samsung.

I want to clear some things here...LG didn't cut cost with LG G6...they used the SD821 for their G6 because Sammy hoarded the then latest SD835...so they had no other option to go for the last gen chipset...they couldn't wait that's why they used the last gen chipset...Sammy is a big player in chipsets production...they even have their in-house chipset (EXYNOS) which is highly efficient and a beast of an SOC...they even partnered with Qualcomm that's why they have bragging rights to their chipset..that's why Sammy flagships always come in two variant SD version for China and Americans while the EXYNOS variant for the rest of the world....LG solely rely on Qualcomm for their chipsets..that's why after Sammy launched the s8s...LG now had the chance to source for the latest chipset (SD835) from Qualcomm.....take Huawei and Apple for a case study..they both have their in-house chipsets...Hisilicon Kirin and A series respectively...I think Xiaomi has theirs too but it's not well known yet.

To back him up OP5t has a 1080p amoled panel..note 5 has 1440p super amoled panel which equates to more ppi(pixel per inch)..so you can't compare FHD screen to QHD screen...mind you Sammy makes the best screen panel on phones...even iPhone sourced their amoled panel from Sammy for their iPhone X

Come is that thing on elephone u pro face unlock? Lol. They included a face unlock that was default on all Android phones since 2011 into a 2017 phone. Wtf. Google had to remove this face unlock after it became obvious it is not secured because it can be unlocked with a picture or by someone with similar shaped face or even an object shaped as ur face... Yes even elephone confirned that. The image below is from elephone u pro face unlock interphase. Read it urself. This uses only the front facing camera to scan ur face, can't work in low light, can't work while wearing glasses. So if I compnah cannot use extra sensors to scan the face like Samsung Iris scanner or Apple's face Id then it's pointless adding face unlock using only the camera.

And saying this phone is better than LG G6 is laughable. Yes it's got 6gb of RAM but g6 got 4gb which doesn't make much difference as it has a top of the line snapdragon processor. Better design? Are u kidding me, where is ip68 water and dust resistance. Battery? Of course that is the only thing Chinese phone makers know how to put in their phones. Latest os that will never get an update? How about better camera with f/1.8 aperture (jeez f/2.2 on the u pro is so 2013). How about trusted brand, better display or u wanna tell me this display is better than the p oled on the g6? U got to be kidding me dude.

Oh and just so u know, galaxy note 5 has a better display than OnePlus 5t
