And if we are to ignore the type of names 80% of users don't put into use, then i think the only names that will be available to purchase will be from a (backorder) auctions.

For those who have had decent sales experience with both brandables and geo domains, do you know that STEADY sales do not necessarily tell you everything about the quality of names you sold?

How, you may ask.

Well, how many times have you gone back to check up your sold names to see what their current owners are using them for?

1. Are they hosting completely new sites on them?

2. Are they redirecting them to existing sites?

3. Did they entirely replace existing sites that were hosted on less superior TLD with your names (.net to .com)?

4. Are they simply there without even a change in nameserver (No more interest, or fellow domainer)?

1-3 will give you a clearer picture about the type of names you should register more, and a better pricing system to adopt.

While IMHO, 4 reveals the type of names you shouldn't spend so much energy on (even if you sold them in the $200-$400 range). Remember the Pareto Principle.

This is the age of data. Let's start collecting and analysing these sets of data more closely.

What happened to you when you made a sale that you desperately needed to was luck. And you created that luck yourself by purchasing that name and outbounding. Luckily for you, the person that needed it at that time purchased.

Those guys on namepros that record 4-5 figure sales didn't sell based on prayer. They created their luck by registering the names and holding onto them, some for years. A guy here sold his first name for $995 after begging for $75. There must be something the buyer saw before parting with that sum. God didn't ask him to give it to an African dude.
If you believe in whatever you're doing, just continue. Results will come if you don't give up cos quitters don't win.

But you should understand that God doesn't hold any good thing away from anyone because they didn't pray to him. Just do the right thing in your power and leave the one outside it to chance.

PS: I've not made a sale but it will definitely happen especially when I'll appreciate it the most. May our luck find us all!

And let me chip in something.

There is no domaining rule that says your first sale cannot be in 4 figures. We should stop attaching LOW prices to first sales as if that is a norm. Most first sales reported cheap here are because the sellers are anxious and scared of losing the sale.

If you are not under any financial pressure, AND (and that's a VERY big AND) if you KNOW your name is a gem, nothing stops you from quoting/selling at 4 figures/high 3 figures.

@the bolded happen to me this week, a buyer offered me $100 for one of my domain which i listed for $399, I countered him with $299 after one day I did not hear from him and I am in need of money coupled with fear of loosing the sale I have to send another email that I am giving him a discount of $150 after some hours that same day he sent me an email that he is interested. "Impatient and fear" though he is yet to pay.

99% of my sent emails are without reply even when I ask them to indicate if not interested, I don't know whether I am sending emails to somebody that is already in the grave or not.
