Why worrying and killing yourself with charges. Even if it is 80 percent that come to you, you are still in profit. You buy a domain name with less than $10 and receive $100 and above you are complaining. Go and open a shop in Lagos market and see area boys, area girls, Iya olojas and babas, federal government, state government, local government and ill wishers coming to collect their unapproved tithes one after the other.

I'm touched by this guy's statement especially the bold one. Here is how to get a domain name that will give you response from potential end users. Firstly, know how to use Google Keyword Planner. I cannot emphasize this enough. I pasted a link for a free ebook download on how to use it previously on this thread.

Next, enter your keyword and choose your target location, say US, if you're targeting United States of America. Launch your keyword tool to get additional keyword searches. For example, one of us reported domain sold few days ago, i.e RowlettFlorist-com.

Let's dissect this domain name. Now, enter "rowlett florist" in Google keyword planner tool without the quotes, okay? What can you see? Rowlett florist as a keyword or search query generates an average of 100-1000 search volume per month. That is good.

Secondly, go to Google.com and enter "rowlett population" again without the quotes. What can you see? A population of 62,868 (2017 census). That is a good statistics again. You may aim at minimum of 50,000 population but this is subjective. The best teacher is experience in this case.

Thirdly, look at the CPC (cost per click). It reads $1.09 minimum bid and $3.78 maximum bid. If Google Ads advertisers can pay $1.09 for a click that will not guarantee a sale of a product or service, that is also a good sign of a good keyword.

Armed with this information, all you will be praying to God for is to make the domain name available for you to register. Most of the time, good domain names are already taken. This is where the hard work is. You are panning for gold so you have to be prepared like the Boys Scout motto.

The only reason you cannot sell that domain name is when you don't do enough outbound marketing. This is the reason why you see a domain that has dropped 3-5 times, is picked up by a domainer with outbound marketing DNA in him selling a domain that dropped. You begin to wonder why others before him were not able to sell it. They probably may have been sitting in their couches waiting for that inbound impulse buyer that may never come.

Do you know that when some people check domain name availability and discover it is taken, they don't bother to make any effort to buy it from the incumbent owner? They don't know that there is a business called buying and selling domain names. Until you hit the pavement to find buyers, you may hold that domain till eternity or simply allow it to expire.

I have taken screenshots "Rowlett Florist" to buttress this example. You should start having buyers' response as from now with this additional information. I release that anointing upon you by God Almighty that we serve! Amen!

Let me drop quickly some findings, doing outbound. We may find this helpful

Subject Line :- Always include your domain keyword in this field and make sure you put "Inquiry" or something related e.g "Inquiry For Lagos Bus Transit", since you're pitching to someone who sells or render such service in Lagos.

Reasons is that it is highly targeted subject line and would have a higher opening rates to a single or short phrase line like "Notification, Inquiry, Urgent Inquiry" etcetera, which are often seen as spamming.

Addressing One's Self :- I have had better chance of closing a deal when using "We" rather than "I" to best of my knowledge a potential buyer feels that since you represent a team (might just be you alone) then there is a chance what you're pitching to them must be valuable e.g
"Hi, my team is looking at selling....".

Sometimes you would get a counter offer (let them know you will talk to your partners about their offer, after which you can reach out to them and accept or counter. As if your partners have made a price decision) or that they would like to speak to you, then you let them know that your specialty is to send out email to businesses but they can call your partnership and mention the particular domain name they're looking at acquiring to them (here you provide DAN or Afternic number) but you would be available if they've got any questions and concerns via emails.

Be Specific :- Tell them why this should be valuable (don't ever talk on traffic stats of the domain) below is an example of what you can mention in your pitch.

1. This domain name can help your business website rank better on web search engines it gets up to 91 exact searches buy potential clients monthly on Google.

2. Competitive keyword, has advertisers bid up to "$3" for the exact keyword "Lagos Bus Transit" to place ads on web engines

3. Non hyphenated (please only if your domain doesn't have a hyphen e.g Lagos-Bus-Transit).

4. Domains in .com extensions are effective for optimizing your websites performance.

Finally be a good communicator, make sure your grammar is well written, and always include a paragraph for a fresh point. We all enjoy eyes appealing writings. Keep your sales funnels simple and well explained.

I don't think you should be sad for this. What if it's not even attracting any buyers? The person that even bought it is likely a member here who will still join people to say you should sell it at that amount. . You should be happy that it's a good experience and the name you make is a running website here even on nairaland. Make more of Good names and move on. Be just happy for good experience.
One thing is,this business is domain investing. Not domain quick money. People should know this. If your domain is sold at a reasonable price within short period of time, be happy and make it to buy some more quality names you have in stock. If you think you can afford to register 10 names monthly , have it in mind that in the next 1 year, can I have money monthly to renew them and if they expire, which is around 30k in naira monthly? Within a year, you likely have around 120 names to your portfolio assuming without a sale. So you see it's more like an investment not quick way to make money. If you have plenty names you register in a month and it will likely choke you to renew when time comes. This is gradual, portfolio incremental business while you do other things. A single 1k sale will cover registration of everything then you acquire more and more and restrategize. Above all, quality trending names and keywords make more sense than average random names that may not attract much more.
Lastly go to recently sold domain thread on namepros and see what kind of names people are selling, hold time, and price. You will see that average good names sell from around 6 months upwards for big $$$.. to $xxxx. Cheers

I know how painful it can be but just move on. What caused such a poor sale was your lack of patience and more research. Even till now "pay" is still a hot keyword and sells faster. The other day, I submitted PayEfficient/king, it was approved within 2 days. SH usually accepts two English words but I believe other brandable marketplaces would have gladly accepted it if you've tried.
