The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Cross River, comrade Ben Ukpepi has been reportedly kidnapped from his residence at CROSPIL estate, Akpabuyo, LGA.

According to a source who pleaded anonymity, the event occurred at about 7:30 to 8 pm last night(Tuesday).

The source said Ukpepi was kidnapped after he received a call and decided to step out of his residence due to noise around him.

The source said:” When he went inside the house he got a call, because of the noise inside he decided to go outside to take the call that was when his abductors struck.


“For some minutes they waited for him to enter the house, he did not, they went to check on him, low and behold, he was nowhere to be found, that was when they realised what had happened.

“They saw his slippers and glasses on the ground without any trace of him, his abductors also took his phone, his family has been calling his line, but it has been switched off since last night. And his abductors have not called up till now,” the source said.

He must be the richest paying artiste then. Naira Marley has said he charges N20m per show. He disclosed he would be having three performances this week for Access Bank and he was paid N60m for the three shows. No discount, nothing!.

It is unclear if the singer is up to his mischief again as the fees he is quoting appears to be extremely high by all standards of the Nigerian music industry and not even A-list artists like Davido or Wizkid has been known to command such performance fees in the past.

It is worth taking this revelation with a pinch of salt, considering it came at the back of recent allegations of carjacking by the singer, who is now pushed to clear himself and declare his worth to be higher than the eyes could see. Truth shall always come out if he is saying the truth or running it for showbiz..

The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters has suspended further legislative actions on the controversial anti-social media bill sponsored by Senator Musa Sani till January next year.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the decision was not unconnected with the mixed feelings expressed by members of the 14-member Senate panel during their maiden meeting on the issue. The members are all lawyers.

The senators were said to have cautioned themselves and stressed the need to ensure a wide consultation on the issue.

A member of the committee said, “We have agreed, tentatively, to fix the public hearing for January. We have to be careful so as not to be on the wrong side of history... We need to ensure that the media and the civil society groups who are in the forefront of the agitation against the bill, come around to defend their position.

It is when this is done that we will be able to convince Nigerians that we have done the right thing.”

The Imo State Police Command has debunked earlier information that popular musician Duncan Mighty was abducted by gunmen in Owerri, saying instead, he was arrested by the command for alleged fraud.

The Musician whose hit song “I am a Port Harcourt Boy” made him instant celebrity, was earlier announced kidnapped by his friend, Paschal Chubuike Okechukwu, a.k.a Cubana Chief Priest, a night club owner and show promoter, who said Duncan was first beaten up by the gunmen, before being whisked away.

According to the police, the singer was arrested for allegedly duping former administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State to the tune of N11m in a breach of musical contract.


His disappearance had sparked off anger among his ardent fans in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital, based on the initial rumour that filtered into the Rivers State that he was abducted by “unknown gunmen”in Owerre, Imo State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, the arrest followed a petition written by an upcoming rap artist M2, who claimed that the Imo state Government led by Owelle Rochas Okorocha, through the office of the Special Assistant, SA, on Entertainment had entered into a deal with Duncan Mighty to manage, promote, arrange collaboration with other top artist and sign M2 under YOUNG WEALTH record label owned by Duncan Mighty.

M2 allegedly told the police that as a result, an agreement was reached and a fee of N11,000,000 was paid to Duncan, adding that, however, since collecting the payment, he refused to fulfill his own part of the deal.

The Ikeokwu said, “Today 14/12/19, operatives of the command arrested popular music artist Duncan Mighty on an allegation of fraud.

“Sequel to the petition, the artist was arrested, and he affirmed having such agreement and collecting the fund, but said he can only refund the money if the contract is terminated. He was then released on bail on self recognition.

“Consequently, a letter was received by the representative of the former Governor, terminating the contract to enable him refund the money and since then, he absconded and all efforts made to reach him proved abortive.

“In view of the above, a warrant of arrest was issued, that led to his arrest at the early hours of this morning”, Ikeokwu added.

Edo State Government has placed a total and complete ban on all political rallies, demonstrations or procession in any part of the state.

It directed all security agencies to deal firmly with all persons, no matter how highly placed who breached the directive.

A statement signed by Secretary to the Edo State Government, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, said the state government has made clear it’s position that the ‘plans by som identified mischief-makers to organise an unauthorised political rally in Bénin City was capable of leading to breakdown of public peace and also danger to the persons and property of Edo citizens.’

The statement warned property owners that any venue which is used for activities in breach of this order shall have its right of occupancy immediately revoked and forfeited to the state government.

Ogie said the state government would not allow any persons turn the state into a battlefield.

“The events of yesterday 12th December, 2019 were a scary prelude to the absolute mayhem which these irresponsible activities would generate if left unchecked.

“In defiance of the clear and publicized instruction of the Inspector General of Police, calling off the proposed rally owing to security implications, these desperate persons are presently shopping around for alternative venues to carry out their incendiary activities.”

Meanwhile, security was tightened around the Edo APC secretariat.

When our reporter visited, scores of APC supporters were seated around the secretariat apparently waiting for any forceful take over of the secretariat.

Very sad what happened to her, prays she gets justice

Mr Ebikili ltonyo and Mrs Tari Itonyo, the parents of the late final year female law student of Rivers State University who was attacked, raped and stabbed to death in her apartment on Tuesday, December 10th, has cried out for justice.
Recall that Matilda was stabbed to death by yet to be identified persons inside her apartment in Eagle lsland area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital. She was found in the pool of her blood by her friend who alerted the police.

Speaking to newsmen, Mrs Itonyo who could not control her tears, appealed to security agencies to fish out the persons responsible for the gruesome murder of her child whom she described as her ”Hope and future”.

“I just want justice. Just look at me. The girl has struggled… struggled to final year for Law. My Hope…My Future. Part of my flesh and blood is going out of me. My tomorrow’s Glory is going down l need justice. l need…justice, l need…l need justice l can’t bear it. Matilda is somebody everybody wants to to be a mother to. Matilda is somebody everybody is saying how I wish l have Baby like this one. How can they cut down the life of my daughter like this? I need Government to help me. I need justice.” she said weeping

Ebikili ltonyo, father of the deceased, also demanded justice.

“My daughter struggled to make it and somebody will just come to take her life like that. Its a very painful thing. l don’t even know what to do. Let the Government come to my aid. People of Nigeria… People of Bayelsa,people of Rivers State please come to my aid to get the killers of my daughter.”

Spokesperson of the Rivers state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, says the police has begun investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing of Matilda.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) said the Federal Government has approved that all Africans could come to Nigeria without Visa from January 2020.

The Comptroller General, NIS, Mr Muhammad Babandede, disclosed this at the inauguration of the Africa–Frontex Intelligence Community (AFIC) on Wednesday in Abuja.

“The announcement would be made soon by the President of the Federation.

”But we cannot succeed without a tool like AFIC. This tool is key if we want to implement an effective free movement across our border.

“The tool is actually coming at the right time. AFIC would help African countries especially Nigeria that want to open its border for all Africans to enter at will. And now that tool is available, it would make the work easier for us,” he said.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday adjourned until Thursday, the continuation of trial of a musician, Azeez Fashola (a.k.a. Naira Marley), who is facing fraud and theft charges.

The case was adjourned following a letter by defence counsel, Mr Olalejan Ojo (SAN), who was not available.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission preferred 11 charges against the musician.

The charges border on conspiracy, possession of counterfeit credit cards and fraud.

Naira Marley, who sang the popular song: “Am I a Yahoo Boy?”, was arraigned on May 20 before Justice Nicholas Oweibo but pleaded not guilty.

The court granted him bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

According to the EFCC, he committed the offences on different dates between Nov. 26, 2018 and Dec.11, 2018, as well as May 10, 2019.

The Commission alleged that Naira Marley and his accomplices conspired to use different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud their victims.

It alleged that the defendant used Access Bank credit card number 5264711020433662, issued to another person, in a bid to obtain fraudulent financial gains.

The EFCC also said that he possessed counterfeit credit cards belonging to different people, with intent to defraud which amounted to theft.

The alleged offences contravene the provisions of Sections 1 23 (1) (b), 27 (1) and 33(9) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Prevention Act, 2015.

Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked as manager of Napoli after their Tuesday's 4-0 victory over Genk which confirmed their place in the Champions League knockout stage.

"Napoli has decided to revoke the position of first-team coach from Carlo Ancelotti," the club said in a statement.
"The relationship of friendship, esteem and mutual respect between the club, its president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact."

The former Chelsea coach is expected to be replaced by Gennaro Gattuso, who was fired by AC Milan at the end of last season. Arsenal are also considering Ancelotti, to succeed Unai Emery, according to Sky in Italy.

Ancelotti began his managerial career at Reggiana in 1995 before moving to Parma a year later.
The Italian who is considered as one of the top coaches in the World also coached Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.
