Several years ago, I connected with a young woman in her 20s on Facebook and we decided to hang out. At the time, she was serving her NYSC. During our conversation, she casually mentioned having a headache. I asked whether she had ever had her blood pressure checked. Fortunately, I had a BP monitor at home, so I suggested we take a quick reading—she agreed without hesitation.
The result was alarming: around 160/115 mmHg. I was genuinely shocked. When I asked if she was on any medication for hypertension, she said no—she had never been diagnosed or treated for it.
I explained to her how dangerously high that level was and the serious risks of leaving it uncontrolled, including potential damage to the heart, brain, eyes, and especially the kidneys. I strongly urged her to seek medical help right away. We went to the hospital together that same day, where the doctor confirmed the hypertension and prescribed medication to bring it under control.
Sadly, years later, she developed severe kidney problems that progressed to end-stage renal disease. She eventually underwent a kidney transplant. Despite that, her health continued to decline, and tragically, she passed away in 2024.

I was working in Onistsha from 2022-2024 and within that time even government workers were not free to go to work, schools were closed, banks too, even hospital you could not go, fueling stations, gas stations were were all closed every Monday. If you mistakenly forget to buy some things on Saturday, just forget it till Tuesday before you will get it again. It is just an unreasonable exercise, hurting only people in the state. Moreover, it is not even achieving anything. For how many years now, some people living outside South East don't even know anything called sit at home exist. It will even be better if Igbos all over Nigeria take to the streets and engage in peaceful demonstrations.

Which way to go?

The governor is just been practical. Sitting at home is not helping aanyone, instead it is hurting the economy of the states.

We are leaning towards a police state. Don't forget these are all private business owners.

Loneliness can also come from being alone as the writer also acknowledges.

My prayer is let there not be any incidents. Let peace reign while the citizens should have freedom to own and run their business as they please.

If those private business owners wants to open anytime they like and the govt feel it's affecting their GDP, they the govt should opened it's own type of business and employ people they can tell what to do and not

Sit at home is one of the most futile and irrational things I've ever seen. It just doesn't make sense to me, because at the end of the day it is your own people that are loosing, not Yoruba or hausa. Its just like those people in some countries that go on hunger strike, it makes me wonder "is it not your self, you are doing" instead of you to eat food and have strength to protest, you choose to starve yourself. That is exactly what IPOB are doing.

It's a symbolic move to protest against injustice. It also shows that IPOB is not threatening anyone, but people are acting on their own freewill. Shame on the governor.

These are the issues. Thank you, PO, for always bringing them up. People may not know it. You can make all the policies but without responsible, frugal, accountable leaders as the operators the efforts will come to noughts. This is just what we are lacking. PO is bringing it to the table. PO will only spend where it will rock the bottom-line.
