AT THE STATE POLICE HEADQUARTERS, UMUAHIA.

Within the period under review, the Abia State Police Command being fair, firm and professional in the discharge of her duties, putting into consideration the core-values of Nigeria Police Force and fundamental human rights recorded the following achievements:

1. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT:
On 17/05/2017 at about 1830hrs, upon a tip off, Operatives attached to Ndiegoro Division arrested one Chisom Ajaero ‘m’, a notorious armed robber whose syndicate has been terrorizing Aba and its environs. It is remarkable to note that the suspect, Chisom Ajaero had before now been arraigned in Court on Charges of unlawful possession of fire arms and was released from remand after two weeks. However, the suspect is assisting in the arrest of his cohorts.

2. ARREST OF CRIMINAL RECEIVER OF STOLEN VEHICLES:
On 17/05/2017 at about 1900hrs, one Chidiebere Ugagu aka TOYOTA, a receiver of stolen vehicles was arrested by Operatives attached to Ndiegoro Division upon information at Ala-Oji area in Aba. The suspect has confessed receiving several stolen vehicles. Then on 19/05/2017 at about 0530hrs, one Toyota Corolla car with reg. no. UMA 897 PQ was recovered from the said suspect and effort is intensified toward recovering more vehicles from their respective buyers. Similarly, the team had on 08/05/2017 at Glass Force Ogbor-Hill, Aba recovered one Ford Edge Sport car with reg. no. GWA 209 TK in furtherance with the investigation of armed robbery incident that occurred in the State on Easter Sunday.

3. ARREST OF BURGLARY SUSPECTS:
On 19/05/2017 at about 0350hrs, one Obi Nkemakolam ‘m’ 21yrs was arrested by the same Operatives attached to Ndiegoro Division at High Test area, Aba during which one Tiger Generator and DVD player were recovered. Similarly, one Adiele Enyinnaya was arrested for burglary and stealing, while the duo of Ibuchi Uba and Chibuzor Francis both males were arrested for defilement.

- In a related development the following suspects were also arrested by Ndiegoro Division for various offences thus: Chikwado Isiguzo ‘m’ of Orlu Imo State for car snatching; Chibuike Nwadialo ‘m’ of Nnewi Anambra State; Smart Uchendu ‘m’ of Umuobom, Ideato North Imo State, Ebuka Stephen ‘m’ of Abakaliki in Ebonyi State and Uchenna John ‘m’ of Abiriba Abia State all for burglary and stealing. Suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

4. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERS:
On 15/05/2017 at about 1540hrs, one Mrs. Chinwe Okorie was accosted by unknown armed men at Bende Road Umuahia. The hoodlums on gun point, attempted to rob her of her Toyota Corolla car with reg. No. BDG 57 CD, but luck ran against them when the woman raised alarm and they attempted to escape. Operatives of SIB mine on routine monitoring ran into the scene and arrested the duo of David Frank ‘m’ of Omoku Rivers State and one Osita Okafor ‘m’ of Umuode road Aba, while one other whose name is given as Kelechi from Port-Harcourt escaped. A locally made short gun with three live cartridges was recovered from them. They are being interrogated with a view to arresting the fleeing suspect and to discover other vehicles they have robbed and where they were sold.

5. ARREST OF CHILD STEALING SYNDICATE:
On 19/05/2017 at about 1730hrs, following a report made at Ogbor-hill Police Station by one Rose Ndukwu ‘f’ that her three year old daughter, Testimony Ndukwu was stolen by unknown person; detectives attached to the Division swung into action, cordoned the possible exit routes in the area during which the duo of Chinemerem Isaiah 20yrs and Chioma Mark 14yrs both females of Nkanu in Enugu State and Umuobiakwa Eastern Ngwa respectively were intercepted with the little girl. Suspects were arrested, the child recovered and investigation commenced to unravel the intended buyer/accomplices.

6. RECOVERY OF STOLEN MOTORCYCLE/ARREST OF SUSPECT:
On 19/05/2017 at about 1600hrs, one brand new motorcycle valued N250,000.00 robbed in Akwa-Ibom from one Chinedu Friday ‘m’ of Abala on his way to Akwa-Ibom State was recovered by operatives attached to Ogbor-Hill Division on operational STOP & SEARCH. The suspect, Usen Kenneth 25yrs ‘m’ of Ika L.G.A Akwa-Ibom State was also arrested. Investigation is in progress.

7. ARREST OF SUSPECTED CHILD TRAFFICKERS / RECOVERY OF BABY:
On 12/05/2017, consequent upon information received on the activities of suspected child traffickers, the duo of Ezinne Obiah ‘f’ 17years and Abigail Udofia ‘f’ 18years both of Obingwa and Bende respectively were arrested. Upon interrogation, both confessed to have sold their babies to one Esther Arukwe and cohorts residing in Port-Harcourt. Then on 19/05/2017, one of the babies (girl) three (3) months old was recovered by detectives attached to the State Anti-Kidnapping Section (D7). Investigation is further intensified toward recovering the other babies.

8. ARREST OF CULTISTS:
On 21/05/2017 at about 1100hrs, upon information that a cult group at Amaoji Community in Isiala Ngwa North was planning to initiate new members and disagreement ensued between them and one old member; a patrol team attached to Isiala Ngwa North Division swung into action and arrested the following suspects: Francis Ikechi Nwachukwu ‘m’, Victor Abel ‘m’, Ikechukwu Nnabugwu ‘m’ and Ujoatuonu Okechukwu ‘m’.

9. IMPERSONATION:
On 17/05/2017, upon information received, detectives attached to Ndiegoro Division arrested one Ejike Igbokwe ‘m’ with fake EEDC Identity Card while trying to connect light. Attention of the EEDC boss in the Area was drawn and he averred that the suspect is not his staff. Meanwhile, investigation is in progress to unravel the identity of the EEDC Staff who the suspect said helped him to procure the identity card.

10. ARREST OF SUSPECTED HOODLUMS / RECOVERY OF MOTORCYCLES:
On 21/05/2017 within the early hours, Operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) attached to Owerrinta while on intensive patrol stormed a criminal hideout at Umuojima in Isiala Ngwa South and arrested the following suspects: Chibundu Michael, Obinna Ndubuisi, Emeka Ifeanyi and Solomon aka Oyibo all males. During a search, one CY 90 lady’s motorcycles and two QLink Motorcycles were recovered. Investigation is in progress.

11. RECOVERY OF WEEDS SUSPECTED TO BE INDIAN HEMP / ARREST OF SUSPCETS:
Operatives attached to Ogbor-Hill Division acting upon a tip off, stormed at Indian Hemp major dealer and arrested the duo of Paulina George ‘f’ and Ukachukwu George ‘m’ with one food flask filled with the weeds. Also one Loveday Eduka 26yrs from Akpaa was arrested for Arson. Investigation is in progress.

12. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBER / KIDNAPPER:
On 21/05/2017, acting upon a tip off, detectives attached to Ndiegoro Division led by the DPO arrested one notorious kidnapper Christian Nnalue aka Africa in a Hotel. The suspect has been fingered in kidnapping and armed robbery incidents. Investigation is in progress.

All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.

Gbajabiamila Distributes E-Learning Tablets To Students

The Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Friday distributed no fewer than 501 computer tablets to secondary school students in his Surulere constituency.

In his speech at the occasion, Gbajabiamila said the gesture was a redemption of his electoral promise to impact on the lives of the people of the area.

He said that the idea to facilitate the tablets was conceived to improve the quality of education in schools through the use of ICT.

He said that ICT-based education was indispensable to the development of Nigeria in the 21st century, stressing that students needed to be properly equipped with the right tools to propel development.

“We are in the 21st century when the most important thing that drives development is technology.
“Nigeria cannot afford to be left out, that is why we are doing our little by distributing these tablets to our students today,” he said.

The House Leader explained that the selection of the students was made without political affiliation, adding that the management of the benefiting schools recommended the beneficiaries based on merit.

He said the tablet contained 117 books for Junior and Senior students and covered all the subjects in the curriculum.
The lawmaker added that the tool also contained tests and assessments that could help students in their learning.

According to Gbajabiamila, other features of the computer include processing applications for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and long lasting battery life of 6,000amh.
He said he had no doubt that the e-learning tool would help to improve the level of education in the state.
“I am fully confident that the Gbaja Tab will complement the “Educate Lagos “and “Eko Project” of the state government.
“I have facilitated this learning project and will need parents and teachers to monitor its usage by their wards.
“More importantly, parents need to know that Gbaja Tab is transferable to other children in the family as it contains textbook for all school classes, “he said.

Gbajabiamila said the 501 computers were as the first in the series; he promised to provide more to other students in subsequent phases.

A member of the House of Representatives, Mr Rotimi Agunsoye, commended Gbajabiamila for the tablets, saying they would assist the beneficiaries in their studies.
He said he was impressed by “this real empowerment” and promised to replicate the idea in his Kosofe Federal constituency.

A member of Lagos state House of Assembly, Mr Desmond Elliot, described the tablets as “a different form of empowerment,’ and would impact on the life of the beneficiaries.
“I, therefore, urge you students, to put the tools into good use for the benefit of your education and future, “he said.

The Sole Administrator, Surulere Local Government, Mr Sherrif Balogun, said his constituents were proud of Gbajabiamila’s impactful’ representation in the lower legislative chamber.

A beneficiary, Akeem Sanni, thanked the lawmaker for the gesture and prayed God to continue to strengthen him to assist more students in the area.

OSINBAJO SIGNS 3 FAR-REACHING EXECUTIVE ORDERS TO EASE BUSINESS, FAST TRACK BUDGET SUBMISSIONS & PROMOTE MADE IN NIGERIA PRODUCTS

In exercise of the presidential authorities vested in the Executive arm of government, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, today signed three executive orders that will significantly change some of the ways government business and operations are conducted in the country forthwith.

Ahead of the signing, the Acting President held an interactive session at the old Banquet Hall of Presidential Villa with all relevant government officials, including ministers, permanent secretaries and heads of departments and agencies among others. The session was meant to directly engage government officials who would be implementing the orders and the new instructions.

Specifically, Prof. Osinbajo signed three executive orders giving specific instructions on a number of policy issues affecting:

*the promotion of transparency and efficiency in the business environment designed to facilitate the ease of doing business in the country,
*timely submission of annual budgetary estimates by all statutory and non-statutory agencies, including companies owned by the Federal Government and
*support for local contents in public procurement by the Federal Government.

The Deputy Gov of Ondo State,Hon Agboola Ajayi led a high powered state government delegation constituted by the State Gov,Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu to visit the Commanding officer of 19 battalion,Naqura barracks Okitipupa, Lt Col Ma'Aji , to assess the weapons captured by the Nigerian Army from members of the militants of deceased Ossy Ibori and to condole with the wives of fallen soldiers involved in the operation as well as visit the injured at the Army MRS unit in the barrack.

On the 7/5/2017 at about 14:55hrs, Police Patrol Team attached Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) Bauchi arrested the following syndicate in Dass LGA of Bauchi State,

Suspects concealed offensive weapons such as machetes, knives and cutlasses in their vehicles Green OPEL Vectra with Reg No. AG 241 BAU,2.Blue Sharon Bus with REG No DRZ 825 AA and stormed the venue for the flag off of constituency event by the Hon Speaker Federal House of Representatives. RT Hon Yakubu Dogara with intent to disrupt the event.
Exhibits recovered include,
1.one(1) Axe
2.Three(3) Machetes.
3.Two (2)knives and,
4.Five (5)Sticks.
In a related development, One Zaharadeen Ibrahim male,aged 26 years of Sabon kasuwa ward Bauchi was also arrested at the venue.
Suspect inflicted deep machete cut on one Aminu Saleh male aged 25 years of Bundot ward in Dass over an argument which emanated as a result of #2000 Naira given to them to share.
Victim was rushed to General hospital Dass, and was treated and discharged.
Exhibit recovered from the suspect include the machete he used in attacking the victim.
Case under investigation after which all the Suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.
Meanwhile,the event ended peacefully apart from the incident mentioned above.
Finally, members of the Public are once again reassured of our readiness to provide adequate security to all citizens in the State.

NIGER DELTA: BUHARI PRESIDENCY ORDERS OPENING OF MARITIME UNIVERSITY IN DELTA STATE

• ACCELERATES ACTIONS TOWARDS LASTING PEACE, STABILITY IN REGION
• LICENSES FOR MODULAR REFINERIES TO REPLACE ILLEGAL ONES IN THE OFFING
• GOVERNOR IN ASO ROCK, COMMENDS FG EFFORTS

In a clear effort to further the Niger Delta New Vision policy of the Buhari administration, the Presidency has directed the resumption of activities towards the eventual opening of the Nigerian Maritime University before the end of the year, in line with the demands championed by major stakeholders in the region.

Coming as one of the several follow-up actions to the recent Presidential level interactive engagements with the Niger Delta oil producing communities, the prompt implementation of directive on the re-opening of the Maritime University to the Ministry of Education is to be coordinated by a 5-man inter-agency Committee headed by the Minister of Education.

Other members of the Committee will come from:
i)    The Ministry of Petroleum Resources,
ii)   National Universities Commission (NUC)
iii)  Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) &
iv)  Office of the Deputy Governor of Delta State

The Committee is to finalize the ongoing processes towards the opening of the Nigeria Maritime University in the 2017/2018 Academic Session. The Committee will work collaboratively with the current Principal Officers and the Governing Council of the institution.

Besides this, and in further demonstrating its unalloyed commitment to a new vision for the Niger Delta, the Buhari Presidency has been working assiduously to evolve a number of robust strategies for key multi-sectoral outcomes and deliverables for the people of the oil-producing communities.

Some of those include:
a)  General guidelines issued by the Federal Government, reaffirming its commitment and outlining its objectives towards the establishment of Modular Refineries in the Niger Delta.
*This includes, the development of the technical criteria for issuing operating licenses that is now in final stages of drafting and would be released soon.

b) A roadmap for addressing regional development challenges is being developed by an inter-agency working group comprising of Ministry of Niger Delta, Niger Delta Development Commission, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Ministry of Power, Works and Housing. This group is working in partnership with experts seconded by Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and key resource persons financed by a bi-lateral international development partner.
*The roadmap will be based on the framework of the 16-point agenda developed by PANDEF.

c) A strategy for community-based participation in pipeline protection and policing is underway and will be validated with series of engagement processes, collaboratively with PANDEF, oil communities and other communities in the region that play host to the vast network of oil pipelines in the Niger Delta.

*Meanwhile, there are plans by the Presidency to conclude the fact-finding tours to the Niger Delta with visits by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, to Cross River and Ondo States.

It would be recalled that under the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Vice President undertook visits to oil producing States in the Niger Delta. During the visits, series of townhall meetings and consultations were held with a broad spectrum of stakeholders in a confidence building effort.

Meanwhile earlier today the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa commended the Buhari administration for its commitment to addressing the concerns of the Niger Delta people.

He asserted the restoration of peace in Delta State and noted that the State Government is actively working with the FG on several of the plans, including the opening of the Maritime University. The Governor who said he was in the Presidential Villa to show gratitude to the FG, spoke with reporters after a brief call on the Vice President.
