Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja An Islamic scholar, Lawal Gusau, who wrote a petition against the northern actress, Rahama Sadau, has narrated to The PUNCH how the police were able to track her phone and prevent her from fleeing to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Gusau, who is also a security expert, had written a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on November 3, 2020, demanding that Sadau be investigated for posting a photo of herself wearing a backless gown. According to the petitioner, the indecent photo attracted blasphemous comments against Prophet Mohammed and this was capable of setting the country on fire on a scale that would make the #EndSARS riots seem like a child’s play. He said after the IG received the petition, an order was given to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Umar Muri, to investigate the matter but things did not go smoothly because Sadau was in Abuja. Gusau told this newspaper that the Kaduna CP sent his men to Abuja to pick her up but she went into hiding and quickly obtained a UAE visa with members of her family in order to flee the country. The petitioner said when the police got a wind of the situation, they began monitoring her calls and were able to arrest her brother. He said it was her brother who subsequently led the policemen to Sadau. Gusau stated that while the policemen were attempting to arrest her, an unidentified Commissioner of Police asked the cops to stand down and promised that Sadau would report to Kaduna the next day. The Islamic scholar, however, said rather than report herself to the Kaduna State police command, the actress again went into hiding. He said it was unfortunate that a CP could hinder the arrest of Sadau despite the IG’s order that she be investigated. Gusau said, “I am not happy with the way the police are handling the matter. Rahama Sadau was trying to escape and had obtained UAE visas for herself and her family but the police were able to track her phone and arrest her brother who led the policemen to her. “The policemen from Kaduna State were about to arrest her and take her to the SCID when a phone call from one CP came in and the policemen were asked to leave her alone and that she would report to Kaduna by herself. What gave that CP the power to overrule the IG? Now, Rahama has refused to turn herself in. She is being protected by that CP and some people from the Presidential Villa. This is most unfortunate.” When asked why he was still pursuing the case despite Sadau’s apology, the petitioner said the apology was not a sincere one, adding that she was only shedding crocodile tears for the camera. Gusau admitted that Sadau did not make any blasphemous comment against the holy Prophet of Islam but she was the one who caused non-Muslims to insult the Prophet during a debate over the picture He, therefore, stated that she would bear vicarious liability for her action. Gusau said the picture had begun generating outrage in Kaduna State, adding that the CP of Kaduna State had to meet with imams and plead with them not to bring up the topic during Friday prayers at mosques last week. The petitioner called on the IG to ensure that Sadau is swiftly taken to Kaduna to face a Sharia court which would determine her fate. The PUNCH reports that in states that practise Sharia, blasphemy carries a death sentence. Sadau had been suspended by the northern movie industry in 2016 for acting in a manner deemed to be at variance with Islam. She was also seen hugging American superstar, Akon, in a picture in 2018 which sparked outrage. Source: https://punchng.com/how-police-stopped-actress-rahama-sadau-from-fleeing-to-dubai-petitioner/

The Nigerian Army said on Sunday that a suicide attempt by Boko Haram at the neighbourhood of Muna Garage in Maiduguri on Saturday night has failed with the two suicide bombers killed in the blast while five civilian JTF members in the market were injured. A statement on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook handle in the early hours of Sunday said, “TwoSuicide Bombers (Male and Female) on a mission to infiltrate Muna Garage Maiduguri, hurriedly detonated one of their suicide vests on sighting troops of 195 Battalion on patrol at about 8 P.M on 1 December 2018. “The patrol team quickly moved to thescene and discovered it was only the female suicide bombers’ vest that was detonated, killing herself and the male suicide bomber. “Unfortunately, five members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) on duty at the market were injured in the explosion. “Subsequently, the area was cordoned off and theExplosive Ordinance Device Team were drafted todefuse the other unexploded vest, while Borno State Emergency Management Agency and the Red-cross evacuated the mutilated body parts of the suicide bombers.“The wounded persons were rushed to 7 Division Hospital for medical attention.”

Tension is rising among the top hierarchy of the Nigerian military asfears continue to spread of an imminent rebellion among the rank and file,SUNDAY PUNCHhas learnt. Our correspondents, who spoke to four senior officers, including a Major General, learnt that many of the soldiers, especially those at the war front, had been showing signs of agitation over the inability of the military high command to provide them with weapons and adequate welfare. One of the officers said, “I can tell you without mincing words that many of us, officers, are afraid because the soldiers can revolt anytime from now. You will recall that some soldiers of the 21 Brigade in Sambisa Forest last yearwent on the rampage, revolting against their superiors. “Such rebellion only happens when the officers lose the trust of their men. The soldiers have been complaining about lack of weaponsand welfare but their demands are being ignored. Always remember that whenever there is an attack, if 40 soldiers are killed, only two officers will be affected. This is because the soldiers are the ones at the battlefront.“If they feel they are being led to their death, they will rather revolt and save themselves rather than die. As it is, we are fearful of what may happen. We don’t want a Bangladeshi Rifle Revolt in Nigeria like it happened in 2009 in Bangladesh where soldiers killed 57 officers.” A major general told one of our correspondents that apart from the lack of weapons, the military was losing the anti-insurgency war due to two principal reasons — strategy and lack of synergy among the service chiefs. The source alleged that there was disunity among the service chiefs which was beginning to affect the fight against terror. He added, “The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. (Abayomi) Olonishakin, has no control over the service chiefs. He summons meetings and the service chiefs don’t come.“The indiscipline has reached a level that the service chiefs now bypass the CDS and the Minister of Defence and write letters directly tothe President. The service chiefs even attended Mr President’s campaign launch recently. This is not the military I (have) spent 33 years serving. You don’t break the chain of command.”The senior military officer said the service chiefs had become lords unto themselves and were not opento alternative views. He added, “On several occasions during our security meetings, if you bring up an alternative view, you become an easy target for those in power. These service chiefs have stayed for too long and are now bereft of new ideas.“From the order we were given, Boko Haram is not supposed to occupy an inch of Nigeria’s territory. The strategy they decided to use was to spread our men thinlyacross the border so that we can boast that no territory is under Boko Haram.“What we should have done is to allow Boko Haram have a particularterritory which we can identify and then we would unite our men on one front and form a wall. We would then attack the insurgents head on. Our men are just being killed because they are thinly spread.”Also, a colonel said the United States Africa Command had not been giving Nigeria the much needed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance – ISR. He added, “In the past, AFRICOM would provide us with intelligence and then the Nigerian Air Force would bomb terrorists’ strongholds.“However, this arrangement seems not to be working anymore. What AFRICOM has been doing is to boost security in Niger Republic in order to prevent terrorists from getting their hands on uranium.“It may seem they do not trust Nigeria with intelligence anymore.”A peace, security and conflict Consultant, Group Capt. Sadeeq Shehu (retd.), said recently onChannels Televisionthat the Nigerian forces were not given the required intelligence from the United States, the United Kingdom, France and other world powers. He said, “One area in which we are lacking and which was very decisive in Colombia is having real and live intelligence. The US Command was able to show the Colombian forces exactly where insurgent were at any particular time. We don’t have this in Nigeria.“When the President is going to meet our allies in other countries, I will suggest humbly that we talk to these allies – US, UK, France; they have the capacity to give us satellite imagery. So, instead of our troops fighting and waiting for Boko Haram to attack, they will be able to know, 24/7, where Boko Haram is. It makes it very easy.”He advised the military to be honest with the government as regards its needs rather than pretending that all was well. The retired air force officer said he got information that the US and others were not giving Nigeria information because of capacity and human rights issues.Shehu added, “I understand from my own investigations that these allies also have their misgivings about giving us live intelligence. The story going round is that they are not sure of our capacity to utilise that information in a very ethical way or in a way that protects human rights. But there is an improvement on our human rights records.” source : https://punchng.com/military-officers-fear-mutiny-as-tension-mounts-among-soldiers/?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C1104256454 |

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said, yesterday, it was worrisome that the Federal Government has deployed the Armed Forces in more than 28 states of the federation. In an address presented at a Capacity Building/Needs Assessment Workshop with Security Sector Related Committees in the House of Representatives, organised by Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, PLAC, the Speaker said he was concerned that the Armed Forces had taken over routine police work. It is no longer acting in aid of civil authorities but has become the civil authority itself.”Dogara said the National Assembly, as an arm of government, made efforts to ensure that budgetary needs of thesecurity sector were met. “At the inception of the 8th House of Representatives in 2015, we adopted a Legislative Agenda to guide the work of the House and therein, committed to taking legislative initiatives to respond to the various security challenges being faced by the country,” he said.In his remarks, Executive Director of PLAC, Mr. Clement Nwankwo, said members of the National Assembly had a critical role in championing popular demand for increased security sector accountability, in a way that preserved constructive relationships with institutions and help improve their capacity to deliver effective, responsive and responsible services to citizens. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/deployment-armed-forces-28-states-worrisome-dogara/
