During the military rule of the 80's and 90's, Nigeria had a non existent middleclass population. Today, 20% of our population (40 million citizens) are perfectly middle income earners.
Nigeria is growing richer and not poorer. Except for the economic depression of 2016.

They are learning some farming! Pastoralism gets them going but when the drought arrives,they are left with heavy losses.Farming should diversify their income a bit! I just hope they don't end depending on oil like Nigeria when we make our first cash on oil in 2019!

Something to note is that our North is sparsely inhabited as compared to Nigeria's North. Devolution and the latest discovered natural resources(oil and gas) should transform the North.Remember that our poverty rate declined but the world bank says still more has to be done!

I am not sure about the methodology but it probably a lot of monitoring the forex coming from CBK, surveys to hotels, look at their numbers at point of entry, game park fees and bit of extrapolation. What I am sure about is Tanzania always claiming to make double from the same tourist that we receive.

How do they come up with this tourism receipts? Do they technically calculate all receipts or just assume the average amount a tourist would spend?
