As part of its Pan African growth strategy, Equity Group has entered into a share purchase agreement with George Arthur Forrest, to purchase 66.53% of the shares held by Mr. Forrest in Banque Commercial du Congo (BCDC), a public limited company (société anonyme - S.A.) licensed by the Banque Central du Congo in the DRC. Following completion of the transaction, the BCDC business will eventually be amalgamated with that of Equity Group’s existing banking subsidiary in DRC, Equity Bank Congo S.A. (EBC). Equity Group also proposes to increase its shareholding in EBC through the purchase of the 7.6% shares held by KfW. By acquiring BCDC and the KfW stake in EBC, EGH will expand its footprint in DRC. https:///2XrlMA7

A section of this road is roofed up because it sits on a flight path. The engineers didn't want car lights to interfere with pilot's visibility and so the only solution was to cover it up. It feels good to drive here! I do it almost everyday! cool

Prostitution in Kenya
Prostitution in Kenya is widespread. [1] The legal situation is complex. Although prostitution is not criminalised by Federal law, municipal by-laws may prohibit it. [2] ( Nairobi banned all sex work in December 2017). [2] It is illegal to profit from the prostitution of others, and to aid, abet, compel or incite prostitution. (Sections 153 and 154 of the Penal Code). [3]
UNAIDS estimate there to be 133,675 prostitutes in the country. [4]
Many foreign men and women take part in sex tourism , which is thriving at resorts along Kenya 's coast. Thousands of girls and boys are involved in full-time child prostitution [5] due to poverty in the region.
Sex workers report abuse, extortion and violence from the police. [3]
Sex tourism on the coast
The ministry for tourism in Kenya has been severely criticised because of its lack of response to the booming sex tourism and child exploitation on the Kenyan coast. [6][7]
In 2006, a study by UNICEF reported that up to 30% of the population of children aged between 12 and 18 in the coastal regions of Malindi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Diani were engaged in some form of sex work. [8]
[9]
Prostitution and health
See also: HIV/AIDS in Kenya
Access to health services is guaranteed by Article 43 of the Kenyan Constitution. However sex workers are often discriminated against and access to health services limited. [3]
Kenya is one of the world's most HIV affected countries. [10] Sex workers are the most affected group within the country. Research has shown that around 30% of sex workers are HIV positive. [10]
Lack of condom use, (both amongst sex workers and the general public), fuelled the spread of HIV and other
STIs. Since 2001, the Kenyan Government has been distributing free condoms (180 million in 2013) and educating the public on their use. [10] A study of Nairobi sex workers in 2015 reported about two thirds always use condoms with clients. This compares with 40% amongst members of the general public who have two or more partners. [10]
HIV and STI testing is voluntary, however as the HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control Act 2006 criminalised HIV transmission, there is some reluctance for sex workers to get tested. [3] The 2015 Nairobi sex workers' study found 86% had been tested, 63% within the previous 12 months. [10]
This booming trade in sex tourism [11] goes on[12] with the Kenyan Tourism Police's full knowledge. They do not want to discourage the hundreds of thousands of white tourists from coming to Kenya’s coast, regardless of the damage it does to young Kenyans. [9][13][14]

Child trafficking in Nairobi, Mombasa & Kisumu

LAST UPDATED: 27.06.2019
Summary
Child exploitation takes place in different forms in Kisumu, Nairobi and Mombasa. These include domestic servitude; forced labour in supermarkets, hotels and restaurants; forced begging on the streets; sexual exploitation; and forced marriage.

Common forms of deception used by traffickers are offers of well-paid jobs and free education. Online grooming and/or abduction are also common.

Analysis

Domestic servitude is the main hidden industry in which child labour exploitation takes place. This is seen predominantly in private middle-class houses or hotels. Boys and girls are forced to work and are vulnerable to exploitation and sexual abuse. They are unable to leave the house in which they are exploited and they receive no wages for cooking, cleaning or childminding duties. This type of exploitation is hard to spot as victims are hidden from the public.

Sexual exploitation illustration showing neon sign and cash

Sex tourism fuels sexual exploitation of children in Kenya and is most prevalent in Mombasa and Nairobi. Children are groomed and targeted online and forced to work in brothels. Parents and children are also approached directly in the community or via social media with offers of work in exchange for payment of education. Traffickers deceive those from low income areas such as Mukuru, Mathare and Kibera slums in Nairobi and traffic children for the purpose of sexual exploitation to areas such as Westlands. In Kisumu sexual exploitation in brothels is common as truck drivers will pass through these rural areas at night.

Forced criminality illustration showing fake DVD, benefits paperwork and begging sign

Forced begging occurs where children and unaccompanied minors living and working on the streets are forced into criminality. These individuals are extremely vulnerable to abuse, and unaware of their legal rights. They may also be trafficked to Somalia for radicalisation. Exploitation in the fishing industry is prevalent on the lakes in Kisumu. Traffickers recruit victims from other countries, refusing to let them off boats, often physically abusing those who complain or try to escape.

Kwale, Kenya - It's a cloudy Sunday morning in Kenya's Kwale county and Sande Ramadan just woke up to get ready for another weekend of work.

Wearing a green vest and khaki shorts, he washes his face and proceeds to the living room where his wife Janet Wambui serves him breakfast.

"Thanks for waking me up, I hate being late for my client," the dreadlocked father of three tells his wife. "She asked me to be with her until next weekend," he adds as he sips black tea.

Ramadan is a male sex worker.

Wambui, his tall dark-skinned wife, works in the same industry. She came back home two nights ago after spending 10 days with a German tourist in an expensive cottage house, a few kilometres from Maweni village where the couple resides.

Ramadan and Wambui have been married for 20 years now.

But it wasn't always like this. One day in 2006, Ramadan was hawking clothes to tourists along Diani Beach in Kwale town, 30km southwest of Mombasa, when a German tourist approached him. He wanted a lady to spend some time with until his holiday ended.

The 37-year-old, who speaks fluent German and teaches his wife the language, promised the man he would introduce him to his sister.

"My husband came home that evening and asked me if I can act as his sister and take up the offer. After a few days of deliberation, I agreed," says Wambui, 38, sitting near Ramadan while tightening her black turban.

Wambui saw how life changed for other women who entered prostitution. She was a housewife who depended on Ramadan's income, which was too little.

"Life was tough for us. My husband's unpredictable income was not enough and when he asked me to accept, I had no choice," she says.

The family can now afford three meals a day and the children's school fees.

Well,Vodafone/Vodacom have always been big players. The most important thing is to get there and grow ourselves at our own pace.I'd love for us to decrease Vodacom's stake a bit but keep them on,our partnership with them on Safaricom has been a healthy one so far!

Mystery of Kenyan stowaway who fell from plane deepens grin grin grin
By Amina Wako November
The mystery surrounding the identity of the stowaway who fell from a Kenya Airways plane as it approached London has deepened days after Sky News exclusively reported about his identity.
But who is the real Stowaway?
The investigative story by Sky News revealed the name of the Stowaway as Paul Manyasi, a 29-year-old and a cleaner at Colnet Limited Kenya at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. That’s where the Boeing 787 took off for Heathrow Airport.
Both Colnet Limited Kenya and the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) have since denounced reports that the man identified worked at the airport.
Here in Kenya, journalist John Sparks spoke to the family of Manyasi at their mud-walled house in Makhwabuye village in Malava constituency, Kakamega county.
The father had early identified his son as Paul Manyasi through a photo shared by Sparks. He even identified a small black bag, a pair of sports shoes and underwear as belonging to his son. His belongings were released by London’s metropolitan Police.
A day after the story was aired, the parents changed their narratives and denied Manyasi as their son and said their son’s name is Cedric Shivonje.
Where is Cedric Shivonje?
When asked about Cedric, the parents said their son was at Industrial Area Remand Prison after being arrested in July.
Nairobi News has establish that there is no inmate by that name at the prison.
So maybe he was booked in with a different name. But how hard is it for the authorities at the prison to find Cedric after his pictures went viral?
The father has also said he has not been into contact with his son Cedric since 2017 and his phone has been off.
So how did he know his son was arrest in June and is in prison?
Why is KAA denying Manyasi worked for Colnet?
KAA and Colnet Limited Kenya, the company for which Manyasi was allegedly working for, earlier on Wednesday dismissed the Sky News investigation, saying the man never worked for them.
If indeed he worked for the cleaning company, a lot will be at stake for Kenya in the air industry.
