Totally disgusted with the guy.

I just don't understand why Buhari would chose to surround himself with with such mediocre an immature aides and ministers like Femi Adesina and Kemi Adeosun. They are making his government look amateurish, unprofessional and uninformed.

This is not helped by confounding policy and pronouncement reversals by the President himself. Simple pronouncements like revealing names and amounts of money recovered are reversed in haste barely 48 hours after he made the statement.

PoliticsNo Currency Swap Deal With China – FG by JoSaintiago(op): 7:57pm On Apr 21, 2016
Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

The Federal Government on Wednesday said the agreement reached with the Central Bank of Nigeria during the recent one-week official trip of President Muhammadu Buhari to China could not be described as a currency swap.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, disclosed this while answering questions from State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Onyeama, accompanied by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had briefed journalists of the benefits of the President’s visit when he was asked to give further details on the widely-reported currency swap.

He had said the trip which saw about five ministers, state governors and over 100 privately-sponsored businessmen accompanying the President was a successful one.

Apart from getting $50m to help the Nigerian military from China, he added that the country offered to help address security challenge in the Gulf of Guinea and the issue of oil theft.

He said China promised to help in diversification of Nigeria’s economy, adding that five agreements in critical sectors were signed during the visit.

Onyeama however said it would be wrong to report the agreement reached on currency as a currency swap.

He explained, “It’s not really a swap. What it takes is that as the Chinese economy goes strong, there is some pressure on them from the trading partners, international financial institutions.

“They agreed that the money should be internationalised. So, they started that for a while. They were protecting it also. They did not allow it to be fully exchangeable.

“But now, their economy is fully strong, they are looking for a way to internationalise the currency. Now, they are saying essentially that they wanted to segment it.

“For Southern Africa, South Africa is going to be the sort of a hub for the currency. So, they are going to be the focal point for the Chinese to make that available for trade in that area.

“In West Africa, they are looking for a hub. Ghana is interested in being the hub for the currency to circulate it for those who want to use it. It is not compulsory.

“But Nigeria is a bigger country with bigger economy. So that does make sense. And they became a kind of attracted to Nigeria to be the hub.”

The minister said it was beneficial for Nigeria to be the hub.

He said it would be in the nation’s interest to use Yuan when buying Chinese goods.

He said that did not foreclose the use of dollars.

PoliticsFulani Herdsmen Confess To Membership Of Boko Haram Read More At: Http://www.v by JoSaintiago(op): 7:50pm On Apr 11, 2016
By KINGSLEY OMONOBI-ABUJA. It has emerged that groups of alleged herdsmen or gangs operating in the middle belt states of Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba and even those that recently killed scores of people in Zamfara state, are Boko Haram sect members. This development came to light following the confessions of some arrested Fulani herdsmen that took part in the killings and burning of houses in Wukari, Taraba state, they disclosed to security forces that they took part in many Boko Haram attacks. A statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade confirmed the development saying “A group of terrorists operating under the guise of herdsmen from a camp in the outskirt of Wukari have been arrested, while others died after an attack on military check point at Gindin Dorowa, a suburb of Wukari in Taraba State”. “Other members of the group were sighted in the course of air surveillance and later trailed to their camp where they engaged the troops in a battle”. “The terrorists were clad in the usual pattern of dress of their counterparts operating in Borno and Yobe States”. “One of the apprehended armed men confessed that he had been fighting for the terrorist group in Borno State and was recently brought to Wukari area in furtherance of their mission”. “Assorted arms and ammunition were recovered from them”. “Meanwhile, the curfew imposed on Wukari and its environs is expected to be relaxed as normalcy returns to the town”. “Troops have maintained patrol of the area while a house-to-house search for arms is ongoing”. “In another development, troops on patrol of the Lake Chad Islands have made some arrests”. “Among those arrested was a boat operator who ferries terrorists across the Lake Chad while another confessed to being a supplier of hard drugs to the terrorist groups in the area”. “In the meantime, the search for the abducted students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok is also being intensified”.

PoliticsFalae: OPC Threatens Reprisal Attack On Fulani Herdsmen by JoSaintiago(op): 4:26pm On Apr 11, 2016
From Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure

THE Yoruba ethnic militia, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has threatened to attack Fulani herdsmen in Yoruba land, especially Ondo State if they don’t stop threatening the peace of Yoruba land and its people.

Specifically, the OPC lamented the incessant attack on the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae by suspected Fulani herdsmen, saying its members are ready for a show down with the Fulani herdsmen should the situation persists.

Some suspected Fulani hersmen had last Friday invaded Falae’s farm located in Ilado via Akure and allegedly killed one of the security guards attached to the farm.

Incidentally, the security guard allegedly killed by the Fulani herdsmen on Falae’s farm identified as Ayodele Ige was the Co-ordinator of the OPC in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

Apparently worried by the development, the OPC warned Fulani herdsmen in Ondo State and in Yoruba land in general to desist from attacking their kismen or face their wrath.

The OPC in a statement issued by its state co-ordinator, Mr Pius Ogunsanya said “the heartless murder of Ayodele Ige would not be allowed to be swept under the carpet like many several other innocent people killed across the country by Fulani herdsmen.”

The statement reads in part “It is particularly worrisome that these people have continued their killings across the country without any major condemnation by the Federal Government. It is even more worrisome that the innocent victims were brutally murdered for daring to challenge the Fulani herdsmen for grazing and destroying their farmlands.”

“It is strange that the security agencies have found it difficult to put an end to these wicked acts by Fulani herdsmen despite repeated cases of killings and arson against them from all over the country.”

“The story is the same from Enugu to Edo, Akokoland to Oke Ogun and other parts of the country.

“Information available to us was that Ige was abducted by the Fulani herdsmen after many attempts their efforts to enter into Chief Falae’s farm were repelled by our members who have been watching over the farm after the abduction of Chief Falae by these same people.”

“The attack by the Fulani herdsmen on the property of a Yoruba leader cannot be allowed to continue,” “For us, the killing of one of us is an attack on all of us, much more when that person is a leader. Let it be known that we have taken this path of peace, not because of cowardice or because of the fear of these people. We want a peaceful, equitable and united Nigeria, which is the pillar of our struggle. But we can no longer bear it that the blood and sweat of our people are continually used to appease Nigeria.”
PoliticsBarring Govt Officials From Flying First Class Hypocritical —adegboruwa by JoSaintiago(op): 9:52pm On Apr 10, 2016
Human rights lawyer and activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, tells BAYO AKINLOYE that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s decision to bar government officials from flying first class is a smokescreen for its failure to resolve the country’s economic and financial crisis

The Federal Government through the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, said it had banned public servants from flying first class when on official trips. Do you see this as cheering news?

That statement of the Minister of Finance (Kemi Adeosun) that public officials are barred from flying first class is hypocritical and only a mere attempt to divert attention from the suffering and agony that have been imposed upon the Nigerian people as a result of the poor and ineffective economic policy of the Maj Gen. Muhammadu Buhari administration. Nigerians are no fools and we know what is going on. The issue of flying first class by government officials is mere tokenism because the people who are living the life of affluence are indeed the politicians. And I believe that if the Minister of Finance were to be serious about cutting cost, she should have encouraged her boss to let charity begin at home. How can a president be maintaining nine presidential jets flying up and down, all over the world as a way of escaping the crisis Nigerians are going through? How can a president who has budgeted over N1 billion for feeding in one year or over N4 billion for his own clinic in Aso Rock have feelings for Nigerians to be able to subsidise petroleum products?

Despite the 20 per cent reduction in travel expenses targeted by the Federal Government, you think the decision makes no sense?

If he reduced flying first class for public servants and increased the agony of Nigerians by subjecting them to trekking to work, by subjecting Nigerians to inflation and perpetual darkness and at the same time increasing the tariff for that darkness, that is wickedness. What we demand from the Minister of Finance is not palliative measures but an unfolding of her economic agenda for this country. She has virtually run this country aground; no economic policy, no economic direction, people do not have access to exchange rate, children are being withdrawn from schools abroad, middle businessmen and manufacturers are closing shop – what is she talking about flying first class? What is our business with that? Will that bring foreign exchange? Will that increase salaries of workers? Will that put an end to fuel scarcity?

I believe that the Finance Minister has not been able to appreciate the enormity of the responsibility imposed on her office. As we speak today, there is no budget as indeed the direction of this government; contractors are not paid; most state governors cannot pay their workers; and the president has gone to China to beg for N2 billion loan for which we do not know the duration and the purpose for which it will be dispensed. This kind of policy of denying government officials the opportunity of flying first class is not worthy of news given the current crisis we are going through in Nigeria.

Would you describe the decision as a misplaced priority?

I believe the Buhari administration has lost direction; he is now looking for populism by embarking on statements that will seem to tie into the minds of Nigerians. The government has discovered that Nigerians are beginning to be tired out by the anti-corruption song or national anthem since May 29 (2015, when Buhari was sworn in as president). Now that the anti-corruption war is not bringing food to the table of the masses, they now want to go back to populist programmes; that will not appease us in this country. I think that the president owes us a responsibility to unfold an economic agenda that will bring food to the table of Nigerians and not to be deceiving us by embarking on populist programmes. How much has the President recovered so far from the Peoples Democratic Party’s regime? How much has been returned and what are the recovered looted funds being used for? The government cannot just keep us in darkness. A Federal High Court made an order that Buhari and Obasanjo should account for the looted funds of (Gen. Sani) Abacha and the looted funds of (ex-President Goodluck) Jonathan and he (Buhari) is refusing to do so.

What is our business with whether public servants are allowed to fly first class or not? We have major economic challenges in this country that affect virtually every part of our society. Inflation has gone up while power generation is less than what the President met when he came into office. It is almost one year since he assumed duty as the leader of this country and he has no agenda. He has denied virtually all the promises he made to Nigerians when he was campaigning. His government has lost credibility and integrity – and the President does not care. He has been flying up and down. Is it because he has access to jets? What is our business with first class?

But reductions in government expenses like this are seen to be good for the country.

What Nigerians want is food on their table. We want electricity and we want an end to fuel scarcity. If we are subsidising the President by paying his feeding allowance which is over N1 billion in one year and subsidising his health care, paying for his medical bill to the tune of more than N4 billion; why can’t he subsidise fuel for Nigerians? And why is the All Progressives Congress-led government being hypocritical? In 2012 when Jonathan wanted to remove fuel subsidy, we occupied Ojota Park every day; (Former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde) Fashola sponsored the protests. He was there to give a speech. Today, it is this same Fashola – these same (Bola) Tinubu people – now saying that Nigerians should bear the brunt of fuel subsidy removal. This is hypocrisy. I think Nigerians should reject this APC regime for fraud. We are tired of this and I think the President should be man enough to resign from office instead of imposing something on our people. Who is interested flying in first class? All we want is food on our table; we want education for our children; we want violence and crimes in our land to reduce. We want people to respect the rule of law and not to be shooting people who are agitating for Biafra. We want respect for all our people, not to be killed by herdsmen calling themselves Boko Haram.

Nigeria is currently at the crossroads and the solution does not lie in populist programmes or denying people flying first class. We are not interested in that. I call on the Nigeria Labour Congress and all activists who protested against Jonathan’s government back then to wake up now and do the same thing against this government and not act as hypocrites. There is no difference between 2012 and now; when we insisted that subsidy should remain back then. We should insist it should remain now.

Are you saying President Muhammadu Buhari is insulting people’s intelligence?

It is beyond insulting people’s intelligence. Buhari as a person was not prepared for the presidency. He has no agenda; he has no programme – he has no blueprint.

But, he had contested for the office of the President on three other occasions before 2015. Does that not suggest a sign of preparedness?

He was just going to campaign every day denouncing Jonathan’s regime without a clue of any solution. Every day now, what we hear is blame; every day he keeps saying the PDP had ruled and ruined Nigeria for 16 years. What is his solution? As a matter of fact, his anti-corruption war is not working because it is selective. The government is taking us for granted. The President told us while he was in the opposition that it was wrong for Jonathan to send soldiers to Ekiti during the state’s governorship election. This same Buhari, under his watch allowed soldiers into Rivers State for the purpose of elections. We are in a regime of hypocrisy. It is clear that the president does not have an agenda for this country. We cannot continue to use anti-corruption crusade to cover up ineffectiveness, ineptitude and cluelessness (of Buhari). It is clear to all of us that the Buhari regime has taken us far back beyond what obtained under Jonathan administration. Violence is ongoing and militancy is back in the Niger Delta with electricity collapsing totally to zero level which has not happened in a long while in this country. Obviously, the Buhari regime has no plan for the progress of this country.

During Jonathan’s administration, ballot snatching was already becoming history; votes of the people already counted then. In all the (alleged) corruption of Jonathan, he brought Prof. (Attahiru) Jega who introduced card readers into the nation’s electoral process. That innovation can be attributed to have contributed to the defeat of Jonathan, the then incumbent President. However, with the emergence of Buhari, the first election conducted under his watch in Kogi State left much to be desired. There, he allowed the votes of a dead man to be inherited by somebody who did not participate in the election. The second election conducted in Bayelsa State was all violence and ballot snatching. The same thing happened to the third election in Rivers State. No election ever conducted under the Buhari administration has been conclusive because of the attempt by the APC to influence the outcome. It is always violence because the ruling party does not respect the will of the people. This government engenders thuggery and chaos. Nigerians should rise up and occupy Abuja; they should occupy Lagos and other places because the country has actually collapsed. We are being fed with lies every day.

PoliticsCourt Gives Buhari 7 Days To Account For Looted Fund by JoSaintiago(op): 7:24am On Mar 29, 2016
You must account for recovered loot, court tells Buhari
— 29th March 2016
The Federal High Court in Lagos has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration must account for recovered stolen funds since the return of democracy in 1999.

The recovered funds, the court said, must be published in the country’s mass media.

Details of the court’s judgment were contained in the certified true copy (CTC) sent by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) to Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

The 69-page judgment, dated March 24, 2016 and signed by Justice Mohammed Idris, reads in part: “Transparency in the decision making process and access to information upon which decisions have been made can enhance accountability.”

“Obedience to the rule of law by all citizens, but more particularly, those, who publicly took oath of office to protect and preserve the Constitution, is a desideratum to good governance and respect for the rule of law. In a constitutional democracy like ours, this is meant to be the norm.”

“I am of the view that on receipt of SERAP request, the government had the duty to respond to same. If it does hold the information, it must supply it within seven days from receipt of the request. Where a decision to withhold information is taken, the government/relevant authorities must inform the plaintiff of its reason. In respect of the SERAP reliefs on recovered stolen funds since return of democracy in 1999, the government had kept mute. Let me say that they have no such power under the law.”

“There is public interest in public authorities and high-profile individuals being accountable for the quality of their decision making. Ensuring that decisions have been made on the basis of quality legal advice is part of accountability.”

“The judiciary has no choice but to enforce compliance with the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. There is no doubt that the FOI Act is intended to act as a catalyst for change in the way public authorities approach and manage public resources and records. The judiciary cannot shirk its sacred responsibility to the nation to maintain the rule of law.”

“I am of the view, and do hold, that the action should and does succeed in whole. Documents relating to the receipt or expenditure on recovered stolen funds since return of democracy in 1999 constitute part of the information which a public institution and authority is obligated to publish, disseminate and make available to members of the public. The government has no legally justifiable reason for refusing to provide SERAP with the information requested, and therefore, this Court ought to compel the government to comply with the Freedom of Information Act, as the government is not above the law.”

“Examples of cases where there may be a public interest in the disclosure of confidential information include information revealing misconduct/mismanagement of public funds, information which shows that a particular contract is bad value for money and where the information would correct untrue statements or misleading acts on the part of public authorities or high-profile individuals.”

“Freedom of Information (FOI)Act 2011 is meant to enhance and promote democracy, transparency, justice and development. It is designed to change how government works, because we have all resolved that it will no longer be business as usual. What is done officially must be done in accordance with the law. Although the FOI Act requires no explicit public interest test, an assessment of public interest must still be made. Therefore, all public institutions and authorities must ensure that they prepare themselves for the effective implementation of the FOI Act.”

“Disclosure of the information will not constitute an actionable breach of confidence if there is a public interest in disclosure which outweighs the public interest in keeping the information confidential. There is a public interest in ensuring public scrutiny of public authorities. If the exemption under the FOI Act is wrongly applied and information is incorrectly withheld, a public authority may face sanctions under the Act for not complying with the duty to provide information.”

In its letter to Mr Malami, SERAP asked the minister to “ensure and facilitate full, effective and timely enforcement and implementation of the judgment.

by Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Lagos. The judgment ordered the administration of President Buhari to publish up-to-date information on the spending of recovered stolen funds since the return of civilian rule in 1999.”

SERAP also said: “Given the relative newness of the Buhari government, the effective enforcement and implementation of the judgment will invariably involve setting up a mechanism by the government to invite the leadership and high-ranking officials of the governments of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, former president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and former president Goodluck Jonathan to explain, clarify and provide evidence on the amounts of stolen funds recovered by their respective governments (from abroad and within Nigeria), and the projects (including their locations) on which the funds were spent.”

“SERAP, therefore, believes that the swift enforcement and implementation of this landmark judgment by the government of President Buhari will be litmus test for the president’s often-repeated commitments to transparency, accountability and the fight against corruption, and for the effectiveness of the FOI Act in general.”

“The enforcement and implementation of the judgment should not be delayed, as to do this is to continue to frustrate the victims of corruption in the country since the return of democracy in 1999, and will threaten to undermine the authority of our judicial system.

“SERAP trusts that you will see compliance with this judgment as a central aspect of the rule of law; an essential stepping stone to constructing a basic institutional framework for legality, constitutionality, the rule of law practice and culture in the country. We, therefore, look forward to your positive response and action on the judgment.”

PoliticsABOMINATION!(father Sexually Abuse His 4yrs Daughter) by JoSaintiago(op): 8:14am On Oct 03, 2015
Father sexually assaults his 4 year old daughter
Four-year-old child has lost her voice following several
sexual assaults on her by her 37-year-old father, identified
as Ademola.
Her mother explained to Saturday PUNCH how her husband
of 14 years had been molesting their daughter.
Blessed with four children; three girls, including a set of
twins, and a boy, things became took a dark turn when she
caught her husband sexually assaulting their 2nd child.
The unfortunate incident seems to be tearing the family
further apart as she has not only moved out of the house;
she has vowed never to return, whilst accusing her husband
of being diabolical.
She began, “It started in 2013 when I suddenly woke up
one night and saw my husband removing the panties of
my daughter. It was in the midnight. I wanted to shout but
I wanted to see what he was up to. So, I pretended as if I
didn’t see him because the room was relatively dark.
“When he pulled down her pant, he looked around and
when he felt convinced that everyone was deep asleep,
he stood up and moved to where the girl was and dipped
his hand in her private part. I screamed.
“To say I was shocked was to say the least. He was
shocked too because he didn’t know anyone was
watching, so he quickly stood up, pulled up his trousers
and started beating me.”
She said she would have left the home that night but she
said she had to stay because she was already pregnant for
him at the time.
She continued, “He beat me that night such that blood
came out of my body. I didn’t even know I was pregnant
until that night and the pregnancy was about two months
old. I ran away from him for some time and I told my
relatives. But I had to go back because of the pregnancy
and that was when I had a set of twins for him.”
She said she had thought he had changed and would never
do such a despicable act again, but unknown to her, other
things had been going on without her knowledge. She said
the straw that broke the camel’s back happened on July 17,
2015 when she caught him molesting her daughter again the
same way he did before.
With her eyes soaked in tears, she said, “I thought he had
stopped until the night of July 17, 2015 around 1am. It
was a Friday. Rebecca was sleeping beside me but I saw
him stand up, he carried the girl to the other side of the
bed. He didn’t know I was awake. I had wanted to shout
but I wanted to know what he was up to again. So, he
removed his trousers, turned his back at me and crawled
to where Rebecca was lying.
“He didn’t know I was looking at him. He pulled down her
panties and started inserting his finger in her private part
again. I thought I was dreaming. I screamed and
continued shouting. He was shocked and couldn’t talk. He
was just looking. Then, he went back to sleep.
“The following morning, I challenged him why he was
doing that to his own child. I know he is diabolical, so I
told him if his plan was to use my daughter for anything
evil, he would not prosper. That was what got him angry
and he started beating me. He said he would kill me.
Then, my other children started crying and shouting, and
he didn’t stop until one of our neighbours intervened.
“The following day, I went to the church to report to the
shepherd of the church he was attending, Celestial
Church of Christ, somewhere around Ikotun in Alimosho
Local Government. The shepherd was shocked too but he
pleaded with me to exercise patience. Because of the fear
of what he could do to us, we left the house and moved
to the church and we kept sleeping there.”
Folake explained that her estranged husband, who is a
motor mechanic in Ikotun area, came to the church, beat
her and forcefully took away their 17-month-old twins,
whom she was still breastfeeding, noting that the two girls
had been in his custody since then.
Her seven-year-old son, identified simply as Seun, told
Punch correspondent that he had seen his father on top of
his sister on several occasions , stating that he had caught
him twice in the act of putting his hand “under” his sister. He
explained that his father used to rub his hands all over
Rebecca’s body but he barely knew what he was up to.
Disturbed by the incident, Folake said she reported the
assault at the Igando Police Station and to the Executive
Director, Esther Child Rights Foundation, Mrs. Esther Ogwu,
who had helped to monitor the case with the police. Folake
added that some of the policemen at the station laughed at
her when they heard about the case.
Ogwu told Saturday PUNCH that it would be in the interest of
all if justice was done on the matter, saying she would follow
the matter to its conclusion.
She added, “We have involved the National Human Rights
Commission, Office of the Public Defender and the Lagos
State Ministry of Justice in the case so as to ensure
justice. It is increasingly becoming important for parents
to pay due attention to their children to guard them
against assault.”
Even though a test conducted on the girl at the Mirabel
Sexual Assault Referral Centre at the Lagos State University
Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, confirmed that the girl had
been assaulted and her hymen broken, Folake noted that to
her dismay, Ademola has been released on bail by the
police, and that the police in Igando have been reluctant in
taking the case to court.
Folake said that her worry was that the man who had done
both spiritual and psychological damage to her little
daughter should was about to go scot free.
“This girl’s private part has almost become rotten and as
young as she is, her breast is already coming out, and she
limps occasionally. I can never entrust my children into
his hands and that is why I’m worried about the twins that
are with him. They are also girls. I don’t want him to
molest them too.“He had afflicted us with charm but we
have been set free. The two children in school have been
very retarded, coupled with the fact that Rebecca has not
been talking until she did twice just two months ago. And
since then, she has stopped again. She just doesn’t talk
and she urinates frequently. She should be in Nursery
One now but she seems not to be coping. Even her
teachers are complaining she had become a recluse and
she keeps urinating all the time.”
When Ademola was contacted over the allegations levelled
against him by his wife and son, he said:
“She is lying against me. I didn’t do any of those things
they were saying. She has been looking for ways to move
out of the house because she has seen someone else she
wants to marry and that was why she left the house.”
The Divisional Police Officer, Igando Police Station, Mr.
Segun Fagbohun, said that he has transferred Ademola and
the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department at
Yaba for further investigations.
