By Davies Iheamnachor PORT HARCOURT— Gunmen in the early hours of yesterday, shot dead one Mr. Allain John-Morrison in Abua/Odua Local Government Area of Rivers State, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC. A top appointee of President Muhammadu Buhari has been arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS). The individual arrested is a member of the Presidential Investigative Committee on Arms Procurement. Apparently, Air Commodore Umar Muhammed (rtd), was investigating arms procurement for which he too partook in. Read Also: Court orders Buhari to pay $3.5 million compensation to Boko Haram members. A dependable source within DSS stated that Muhammed was fronting for some high ranking officials within the EFCC and security agencies. To put this in perspective, Muhammad is investigating a criminal offence for which EFCC, who is also part of the investigation are party to. DSS operatives stormed Muhammad’s house on Sunday located at No. 4 Lundi Close Off Mississipi Street in Maitama, Abuja. After a five-hour search, the operatives found and seized the sum of $1.5 million dollars in cash and various high-end cars. According to the source, “The DSS cordoned off his house in Maitama, where he is believed to be having meeting at the time they swooped on the residence. |

By Peter Duru MAKURDI—In what seemed like a coordinated attacks, suspected Fulani herdsmen yesterday allegedly attacked four Benue communities killing over 26 persons, injuring many others and razing several houses and huts. Fulani Herdsmen The attacks came on the heels of Saturday’s invasion of Dusa villages in Turan council ward of Logo local government, where a Village Head and five others were killed. Vanguard gathered that the villages affected in the latest attacks were Uzaar in Tombo, Anyii in Logo local government and Vase in Ukum local government. According to the source, the marauders launched an attack on Uzzar and Anyii Monday night killing about 8 persons and razing down parts of the affected communities. According to him, “Vase was attacked at about 1am Tuesday where 12 persons including six relatives of a serving Permanent Secretary in the state were butchered in cold blood. The sequence of the attacks clearly showed that they were well coordinated and that is why the people could not put up any form of resistance. “As we speak there is a huge influx of displaced persons of over 1,000 including women and children running away from their homes to Ugba, the headquaters of Logo same as Zaki Biam in Ukum, for safety. From the sustained attacks it is becoming clear that the herdsmen want to take over the affected communities close to River Benue because of the rich vegetation.” When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Moses Yamu, who confirmed the attacks, said however that “the Police have recovered four corpses from Vase, three from Anyii and one from Uzaar village. That is the number I can confirm to you.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/suspected-fulani-herdsmen-kill-26-persons-injure-many-benue/

Then there's the Audi, Land Rover and Mercedes Benz. Majority of the vehicles are involved in ongoing criminal case either directly or indirectly, which means they can't be claimed by their owners. Others have been abandoned as they were ready to be scrapped or their owners lacked the correct paperwork. The cars have become a headache for the local authorities, who struggle to decide what to do with them. While some have been cleared for auctions, others continue to arrive and be stacked up in the graveyard of cars. |

THE Federal Government, yesterday, told a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) imported a large cache of highly sophisticated arms and ammunition that have not been accounted for into the country. The Federal Government also claimed that huge ammunition is feared to be in the possession of persons who are sympathetic to Dasuki.http://sunnewsonline.com/fg-accuses-dasuki-of-importing-large-weapons-into-nigeria/ Meanwhile, the federal government has, again, asked the court to protect its witnesses lined up to testify against Dasuki in criminal charges of unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering. Although the court had rejected a similar application, government, in a fresh motion, yesterday, asked for an order to shield identities of the witnesses. It also asked that the record of proceedings should not be made public. Moving the motion, federal government’s counsel, Oladipo Opeseyi applied for an order to permit the witnesses to be addressed with pseudo names in the course of giving evidence. Government rooted the request on the grounds that Dasuki, as former NSA, also a retired senior military officer and prince of the Sokoto Caliphate, commands large followership in the country who may be aggrieved by his trial. The government also claimed that most of the witnesses are security personnel and have expressed fears of being identified by the public who may be sympathetic to Dasuki. Government also said security of its witnesses will be blown if they are made to testify publicly without protection. In a five paragraph affidavit deposed to by one Emmanuel Ikpebe, in support of the motion, government averred that Dasuki served in the intelligence unit of the Army and that a large quantity of ammunition were found in his house when searched, in addition to various foreign currencies whose sources he could not explain. The motion, therefore, prayed the court to hold that special circumstances have been constituted to grant the request. However, counsel to Dasuki, Joseph Daodu, told Justice Adeniyi Ademola that he has just been served with the motion that he needed time to respond. Justice Ademola subsequently adjourned hearing of the motion till June 23 and 24. |
