Gov. Ortom of Benue State has just voted at his polling unit in Gbajimba.

Gov. Ortom who voted alongside his wife, Eunice, expressed confidence in the process but lamented the arrest of the state agent by security forces in the early hours of the day.

Over one thousand trained collation/returning officers, this Saturday morning stormed the office of the Imo state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, lamenting their names are removed.

Some of those who spoke to newsmen in INEC, office together Portharcourt street in Owerri, alleged that INEC was utilizing only names of these from the Federal University of Technology, FUTO, Owerri. On the other hand, the Imo state INEC, Public Relation Officer, PRO, Emmanuella Opara, has denied the allegation including those selected will get text messages.

One of the protesters, Micheal Emecheta, said that they were told to come on Friday to INEC and that the locations where they were posted would be made available to them. But that that INEC, has refused to address them or give them any information that would be helpful as regards their area of duty. Emecheta said: “We were trained and we were told to come to the INEC, office and get the details of our posting. “We were here yesterday and nobody briefed us. We have the information the INEC, only staff of the Federal University of Technology, FUTO, were selected. What am asking are we not staff of federal institutions. “They can’t be treating us like this. We were trained as collation/returning officers and by now were suppose to be at the collation centers.

One of Italy’s most historic clubs, Inter, have named Steven Zhang, a 26-year-old Chinese business owner, as their new president.

The son of Jindong Zhang, who owns the commercial group Suning, which has been in control of the Milan club since June 2016, replaces outgoing president Erick Thohir.

“Today, I am extremely proud to lead this club into a new era,” Steven Zhang said in the press release.

African football will support FIFA president Gianni Infantino in his re-election bid next year, the Confederation of African Football president Ahmad Ahmad said on Sunday.

CAF officially endorsed the candidacy of Infantino at its Congress in Egypt on Sunday with messages of support from the organisation itself and also on behalf of member associations read out by Morocco.

“We are not only backing you but we will be travelling with you to publicise your ideals and the great work you have done since you took over,” said Morocco football federation president Fouzi Lekjaa.

But an official endorsement has previously proven no guarantee of votes with many African associations breaking ranks in past elections.

Infantino announced in June he would run for re-election as head of soccer’s global governing body when elections are held in Paris in June 2019.

“I want another four years of it because I believe in what I do,” Infantino said at the FIFA Congress in Moscow.

“I believe in what I can do for FIFA and for football.”

No other candidate has yet declared an interest in standing against Infantino.

Cristiano Ronaldo is to sue a German magazine after it published accusations by an American woman she was raped nine years ago by the star.

Lawyers for the former Manchester United star are to take legal action against Der Spiegel over “blatantly illegal” allegations.

Kathryn Mayorga, 34, was unveiled on Friday as the woman who has accused Ronaldo of sexually assaulting her in a Las Vegas hotel room.

The Juventus star was on holiday in Sin City in 2009 with his cousin and brother-in-law when he met the part-time model.

During the alleged incident, she claimed Ronaldo fell to his knees and said he was "99 per cent a good guy" who was let down by the "one per cent".

Later, Ronaldo allegedly paid her £287,000 as an out-of-court settlement which contracted her to never speak about her claims.

His lawyers, Schertz Bergmann Rechtsanwälte, issued a statement denying Mayorga’s rape claim saying they would sue for “compensation for moral damages”.

His solicitor, Professor Dr Christian Schertz said: “The reporting in SPIEGEL is blatantly illegal. It violates the personal rights of our client Cristiano Ronaldo in an exceptionally serious way.

“This is an inadmissible reporting of suspicions in the area of privacy. It would therefore already be unlawful to reproduce this reporting.

“We have been instructed to immediately assert all existing claims under press law against SPIEGEL, in particular, compensation for moral damages in an amount corresponding to the gravity of the infringement, which is probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years.”

UEFA has announced VAR will be used in the Champions League from the 2019-20 season and at the finals of Euro 2020.



The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be used in UEFA tournaments including the Champions League from next season, European football’s governing body has confirmed.

The decision was made by the UEFA executive committee at a meeting in Nyon, Switzerland on Thursday morning.

The system has already begun to creep into use across Europe and was deployed at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

It allows referees to review footage of key decisions in order to make sure that the correct course of action is taken.

It is only used in the event of game-changing decisions, including goals, penalties, direct red cards and cases of mistaken identity.

The Burundian footballer, who has only scored one goal in more than 900 days, has been registered in the Civil Registry as the father of his child, born on May 30 from his ex-fiance Stephania Christoforo.

Meanwhile, his second child, who was born on July 17, is from his relationship with model Chelsea Lovelace (causing his break-up with Stephania) and for which he has also been registered as a father.
