SportsMessi Will Attend The Best Awards Ceremony Despite Best Player Snub by Josephmorgan(op):
By deciding to attend next Monday’s FIFA awards gala, Lionel Messi is displaying a praiseworthy amount of fair play.

Lionel Messi wasn’t included on the three-man shortlist for The Best award for the past season, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah ahead of him.

Nonetheless, Messi has been included in the team of the year and is, due to this fact, invited to the occasion.

While others might not want to accept that invitation, realizing that they’ll not be taking home the main prize, Messi has decided to attend the ceremony in any case, as he has done throughout his career even when he hasn’t won certain individual awards.

There was controversy just some weeks ago when Ronaldo avoided UEFA’s awards ceremony once it became clear that Modric would be pipping him to the best player gong.

SportsGriezmann: “i’m Now Sitting At The “top Table” Alongside Messi And Cristiano by Josephmorgan(op): 4:37pm On Sep 17, 2018
The French international talked to AS exclusively about his personal scenario with Atlético, the Ballon d’Or and The Best awards and his motivation for staying in Madrid…

—A new season has just began and it looks like a great moment in your profession after winning the Europa League with Atleti and capping it off with the World Cup win in Russia.

—Sure, it is true and it is fair to say I am enjoying football at present at both club stage and international level with great team-mates and managers. I really feel privileged and hope that this carries on.

—Did you ever imagine when you left France for San Sebastián some 13 years in the past that this might be the path your career would take?

—My dream was at all times to win titles. The World Cup was at all times a boyhood dream and that was accentuated watching the team of 98 lift the trophy. When one arrives at a new club the need is to win titles and when I arrived at Atlético my hope was the same and last season we won the Europa League and just recently the UEFA Super Cup.

—There has been some recent controversy in the past weeks given that you weren’t shortlisted for ‘The Best‘ award with manby people claiming that that is an injustice. How has this been for you?

—There’s nothing to be done, this is a FIFA award and it is a disgrace that no World Cup winner has been shortlisted. Our World Cup run was wonderful and the likes of Mbappé, Varane, Kanté and even myself deserve to be recognised for the performances in Russia…Nevertheless, that is how it’s. I believe that the Ballon d’Or is more prestigious and has more cache, that is my view and I realise I’ve three months ahead to give my all and then we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

—But did it shock you not to be on “The Best” nomination list this year?
