Education / The Medical Triangle! (how Medicine Involves Us All) by Josh1000: 11:38pm On Oct 25, 2014
In the medical world your basic work is service
to humanity. This primary assignment makes the
job more difficult and rigorous because one of
the most difficult thing to do is to satisfy
humans. It is so difficult that even the
economists sees this as a problem because
human wants are unlimited.
Expectations from medical Practioners have
increased so drastically over the years, patients
don't just want to see their doctors because they
are seek but they want more "not
really necessary services" such as Breast
Implants, Buttocks Implants Face lifts and so on!
This makes medical service providers faced with
many challenges! Now its not right for big
incisions to be made during surgeries! Humans
Just want it right! They want everything to be
perfect but the question is what motivates the
doctors?, what makes them want to develop?
Asides Incentives which are not even enough, I
think medical Practioners should be inspired by a
desire to change things and be motivated by
seeing this work out! As a dentist for example
the fact that the you can successfully
reconstruct the cleft lip of your patient should
motivate you, It should "Ginger you", As
a Pediatric surgeon for example, the fact that a
baby born with a heart condition you successfully
took care of should spur you to do more! As a
nurse the fact that you gave great assistance in
the delivery of a baby should encourage you! You
just helped a woman in pain! You just helped in
making someone a father!, As a physiotherapist
the fact that you assisted in helping someone get
his balance back should Inspire you to do more!
This is the First Part of the triangle--- Your
Patients , The reason why you are practicing, In
fact the basis of your Practice. I have seen how
harshly patients are treated in hospitals,
particularly public hospitals! Some Nurses have
been so bad to the extent that they have made
people think all nurses are wicked, Some doctors
just have an attitude of "I don't care" They want
to attend to you just quickly and run away.
This should change, Our Patients are
fundamental to our practice and they constitute
an important part in this triangle.
The second part of the triangle is made up of the
health practioners themselves. Your skill, your
contribution to your personal development, the
desire to get better, effective collaboration! This
is just going to move the medical world forward.
The third part which Is the most important is
God, see yourself accountable to God and you
will be spurred to make a useful Impact. You will
be motivated and compelled to do jus the right
thing which is beneficial to mankind.
I once heard my dad say someone died during
surgery because he was supposed to be given a
drug at a particular interval and the people or
person in charge forgot. Who knows how many
of these cases have happened? The truth is If
the parts of this triangle and properly joined
together the world will be a better place.
Incentives are wonderful but that should not be
our drive! Never Forget the Tri angle!

All over the world its no more "News" that these two field of career are both professional fields especially when it comes to practicing it in full scale. But its so saddened here in my country (Nigeria) the way Medical Student(Pharmacists,Nurses, Medical Lab Scientist and Doctors) are being given mouth watery treatment on NYSC service ground and the future Engineers are being treated like idiots. Infact in Benue State where I'm serving Med Guys are paid like 60k @ppa, 30k @state level followed with 3bedroom flats of Doctors quarters(free of charge) nd 19k of allawee compared with an Engineering Student sent to primary or secondary school with 2k@ ppa and just your 19k of allawee with no accommodation even if you had a First Class(B.Eng) in school. With this sad experience I thing the Engineering Bodies in this country (NSE nd COREN) are allowing our government to cheat us big time.
Med Guys make sure life of human is sustained but Engineers make life so comfortable for humans, we are everywhere going great things all around the world...

DO Nigerians ever learn?
Education / The Amazing Field Of Dentistry And Dental Surgery by Josh1000: 7:00pm On Oct 01, 2014
Dentistry is the branch of the healing arts
and sciences devoted to maintaining oral
health. It is a dynamic health profession,
offering opportunities to become a
successful, highly respected member of the
community.
Dentists enjoy excellent compensation and
the high demand for dental care is likely to
continue in the future. The realization that
oral health can have a serious impact on
systemic health drives the expansion of new
professional opportunities each year.
Careers in dentistry

Endodontics – diagnosis and treatment of
injuries that are specific to the dental nerves
and pulp (matter inside the tooth).
Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology - study and
research of the causes, processes, and
effects of diseases with oral manifestations.
Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology - taking and
interpretation of conventional, digital, CT,
MRI, and allied imaging modalities of oral-
facial structures and disease.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery – diagnostic
services and treatment for injuries, diseases,
and defects of the neck, head jaw, and
associated structures.
Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics –
diagnosis andtreatment of problems related
to irregular dental development, missing
teeth, and other abnormalities.
Pediatric Dentistry – treatment of children
from birth to adolescence.
Periodontics - corrective surgery on gums
and supporting bones to treat gum disease.
Prosthodontics - restoration and replacement
of teeth damaged by decay, lost from trauma
or disease, with fixed or removable
appliances constructed with newly developed
dental material.
Dental Public Health - development
of policies and programs, such as health
care reform, that affect the community at large.

What you may not realize is that dentistry is
an artistic as well as scientific profession.
Ask yourself these questions:
Do you enjoy interacting with and helping
people?
Would you like a career that offers challenge
and variety?
Would you enjoy being self-employed?
Are you interested in helping people maintain
and improve their oral health?
Do you have good manual dexterity and
spatial judgement?
Do you have keen memory and a strong
interest and ability in science?
The scope of a dentist's work is much
broader today than ever before. Dentists are
oral health experts. They have the skills,
training and expertise to know how the health
of your teeth, gums and mouth relate to your
general health.
Today's dentists do more than drill and fill
patients' teeth; they perform a wide variety of
procedures and functions. Though some
dentists specialize or develop expertise in
particular areas, the number and range of
services that dentists provide has steadily
grown.
It's a noble profession indeed.

Politics / $9.3m Scandal: I Have No Hands In The deal – Oritsejafor by Josh1000: 2:18pm On Sep 30, 2014
The President of the Christian Association of
Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Monday,
said he knew nothing about the controversial
$9.3m smuggled into South Africa by two
Nigerians and an Israeli, using his private
jet.
Oritsejafor broke his silence during the
National Executive Council meeting of CAN
at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
The CAN leader regretted that there had
been attempts in the media to link him with
the incident by mischievous elements,
adding that he had kept quiet all the while
because he needed to explain his position to
the church, which he said, was his primary
constituency.
Oritsejafor, in his address, a copy which was
emailed to our correspondent in Kaduna,
declared that he was never a party to the
movement of the $9.3m from Nigeria to
South Africa to purchase arms and
ammunition.
He said, “I wish to assure you that I will not
do anything to tarnish the image of Jesus
Christ or compromise the divine standard of
the church.
“As you are all aware, the media has been
awash in the past few days with an
unfortunate incident involving the movement
of funds from Nigeria to South Africa. In the
unfortunate news reports, attempts have
been made to link me directly with the
transaction.
“So far, I have refrained from making any
direct public response pending the time that
I would have briefed the leaders of the
church and explained my position on the
issues to them.
“I believe that the primary institution that I
owe any explanation to is the church.”
Oritsejafor added, “At the risk of being seen
to be defending myself, I wish to confirm to
the distinguished leaders of the church that
the Bombardier Challenger 601 aircraft in
question is mine. The aircraft was presented
to me as a gift by members of our
congregation and ministry partners
worldwide at my 40th anniversary of my call
into the ministry.
“May I be permitted to stress that the
aircraft was not given to me by the
President of Nigeria, neither was it a
settlement for any political favour or
patronage.
“With the benefit of hindsight, the President
of the country was a guest in our church
during the anniversary celebration when the
jet was presented to me. This has construed
an implication that it was a gift from the
President of the country.”
The CAN leader explained further that “the
President of Nigeria has nothing to do with
the gift of the aircraft. By the way, I still
wonder why all those saying this cannot
come out to show proof so that the matter
can be put to rest once and for all. Let me
say that this might be an issue of the court
in the near future.”
Oritsejafor, who also explained the
circumstances that led to the involvement of
his aircraft, said, “In order to ameliorate the
cost of maintenance of the aircraft, I sought
and got permit to allow the aircraft fly in
and out of Nigeria.
“Based on this, I leased the aircraft on
August 2, 2014, to a company to run it. It
was the leasee that entered into an
agreement with the people who carried out
the transfer of funds. Having leased the
aircraft to the Green Coast Produce
Company Limited, any transaction
undertaken with the aircraft can no longer be
attached to me.
“Inasmuch as I am shocked and distressed
by the incident, I wish to appeal to
Christians in Nigeria to remember that a
war has been waged against the Nigerian
church. This war is being fought on many
fronts and this unfortunate incident is
another dimension in the assault against the
church.
“It is clear that those who manipulated this
conspiracy desire t o create a schism in the
church.”

Religion / Re: I Am A Muslim ,i Despise Bokoharam by Josh1000: 12:18am On Sep 30, 2014
orimahspence:
I'm a Nigerian,I was born a Muslim and I still remain one, I despise bokoharam terrorists and all that they represent. In fact, despise is not even a strong enough word to convey my true feelings about those who kill innocent people in the name of Islam. I hate them with every fiber of my being.

I'm not going to tell you, "Islam is a religion of peace." Nor will I tell you that Islam is a religion of violence. What I will say is that Islam is a religion that, like Christianity and Judaism, is intended to bring you closer to God. And sadly we have seen people use the name of each of these Abrahamic faiths to wage and justify violence.

The unique problem for Muslims is that our faith is being increasingly defined by the actions of a tiny group of morally bankrupt bokoharam terrorists. Just to be clear: The people who commit violence in the name of Islam are not Muslims, they are murderers. Their true religion is hatred and inhumanity.

The only people terrorists speak for are themselves and the others involved in their despicable plot. They do not represent me, my family or any other Muslim I know. And believe me, I know a lot of Muslims.

We hate these terrorists more than non-Muslims do. How can I say that? Because they harm innocent people in the name of our religion and consequently we suffer a backlash because of their acts. It can be anything from a spike in hate crimes to people viewing Muslims as troublesome imperils because of our faith. We are the ones called to answer for the sins of people we detest.

Since the bokoharam bombings has renewed for some concerns about Muslims, I wanted to candidly answer three questions I have been asked repeatedly over the years:

1. Why do some Muslims commit terrorism?

I'm not a terrorism expert but I will share the view of those I have spoken to in the Muslim community. There can be no doubt that some Muslims wrongly believe that their terrorist act is sanctioned by Islam. But to us their true motivation is not religious, but rather political.

Islam is simply used by terrorists as a way to recruit support. They then engage in terrorism to bring attention to their grievances or to achieve their political agenda, just as other terror groups have done in the past.

The recent statement of the bokoaram terrorist group spokesman ,boasting an unachievable task of completely abohoring western education in the country further makes this very point. That expressly tell us that they have a specific political agenda

2. Why don't Muslims denounce terrorism?

Just to be clear: Nigerian Muslim organizations have unequivocally denounced and condemn bokoharam and their terror attacks. Not just once, but over and over.
http://muslimsagainstterror.com/muslims-of-nigeria-denounce-and-condemn-boko-haram/

They made it clear that The actions of Boko Haram are in clear contradiction of the tenets of Islam.

But that doesn't matter if you haven't heard it. And despite their best efforts to get this message out there, what attracts more media attention: A Muslim denouncing terrorism or footage of an explosion?

Does that mean that we will stop denouncing terrorism? Of course not. But we will have to be more creative in our efforts to attract media coverage to make this point to our fellow Nigerians
3. Why don't Muslims stop blowing stuff up?

I have never blown up anything, except maybe a model toy tank when I was a kid. Nor has any other Muslims I've met in person or even on Facebook. But still we are charged by many with the task of policing a religion of more than a billion people.

Although this may not change some people's perception, statistically Muslims have not been the ones involved in most terror plots in the United States. In fact, since 1995, 88% of the domestic terrorist plots have been by right-wing groups, ecoterrorists and anarchists, according to an analysis by the Center for American Progress. But still, 12% were Muslims.I don't use Nigeria because our country is one with poor record of statistic and non-dependable database,if we have any

Believe me, we wish that number were zero. But here's the brutal truth: Neither law enforcement nor the American Muslim community can stop every radical or criminal who happens to be Muslim. A "lone wolf" can devise his or her evil plan in secret, making detection almost impossible.

It is my hope that in time, Muslims will not be defined to my fellow Nigerians by the handful of terrorists, but by the millions of others who are involved in all aspects of Nigerian life. Well-known Nigerian Muslims range from The Richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Saultan saad Abubakar III, The sultan of Sokoto, The late Arisekola Also, Aare musulumi of yoruba land, to police officers, teachers, judges, Government workers, cab drivers and the millions of Nigerian Muslims in between.

These people, not the terrorists, are the true Muslims.

Dear brothers, fear only Allah.
When you see any one engaging in making bombs or terror activity, tell the police or the constituted authority

Quran says what means- whoever takes an innocent life, it is as if he has killed the entire human kind.
And whoever saves a life, it is like wise as though he has saved the entire human kind.
Quran 5:32 ..whoever kills an innocent, it is as if he has killed all mankind; and whoever saves a person, it is as if he has saved all mankind.

but they kill in the name of Islam and can prove it from the Quran

I can quite understand the reason why age is a limit for young people to get to key political positions in the country. They probably say the young lack experience but I think lack of experience is better than Corruption.
For selfish and political reasons elderly people are invited, appointed and elected to key positions leaving the leaders of tomorrow as spectators of unfair and selfish governance. Many people would should be elder statesmen and advisers lounging with retirement were invited for the national conference while the young ones were marginalised. This is unfair really! If it takes making a law for the young people- the youths to lead, I think It must be done....We must not remain quiet....Am launching this #tag on Nairaland which most of Us youths should start using to send a message to the nation!
