Nurse Nina Pham, the first person to contract Ebola in the US met with president Obama at The White this afternoon where she received a hug from him. Nina, who contracted Ebola while treating Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan at the Emory University hospital in Texas, is now free from the virus after being successfully treated at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. When President Obama heard she was Ebola-free, he sent word to her asking if he could hug her and she agreed to meet him. source:lindaikeji..com |
In the medical world your basic work is service to humanity. This primary assignment makes the job more difficult and rigorous because one of the most difficult thing to do is to satisfy humans. It is so difficult that even the economists sees this as a problem because human wants are unlimited. Expectations from medical Practioners have increased so drastically over the years, patients don't just want to see their doctors because they are seek but they want more "not really necessary services" such as Breast Implants, Buttocks Implants Face lifts and so on! This makes medical service providers faced with many challenges! Now its not right for big incisions to be made during surgeries! Humans Just want it right! They want everything to be perfect but the question is what motivates the doctors?, what makes them want to develop? Asides Incentives which are not even enough, I think medical Practioners should be inspired by a desire to change things and be motivated by seeing this work out! As a dentist for example the fact that the you can successfully reconstruct the cleft lip of your patient should motivate you, It should "Ginger you", As a Pediatric surgeon for example, the fact that a baby born with a heart condition you successfully took care of should spur you to do more! As a nurse the fact that you gave great assistance in the delivery of a baby should encourage you! You just helped a woman in pain! You just helped in making someone a father!, As a physiotherapist the fact that you assisted in helping someone get his balance back should Inspire you to do more! This is the First Part of the triangle--- Your Patients , The reason why you are practicing, In fact the basis of your Practice. I have seen how harshly patients are treated in hospitals, particularly public hospitals! Some Nurses have been so bad to the extent that they have made people think all nurses are wicked, Some doctors just have an attitude of "I don't care" They want to attend to you just quickly and run away. This should change, Our Patients are fundamental to our practice and they constitute an important part in this triangle. The second part of the triangle is made up of the health practioners themselves. Your skill, your contribution to your personal development, the desire to get better, effective collaboration! This is just going to move the medical world forward. The third part which Is the most important is God, see yourself accountable to God and you will be spurred to make a useful Impact. You will be motivated and compelled to do jus the right thing which is beneficial to mankind. I once heard my dad say someone died during surgery because he was supposed to be given a drug at a particular interval and the people or person in charge forgot. Who knows how many of these cases have happened? The truth is If the parts of this triangle and properly joined together the world will be a better place. Incentives are wonderful but that should not be our drive! Never Forget the Tri angle! Joshua Idowu. source:joshuaidowu..com |

Dentistry is the branch of the healing arts and sciences devoted to maintaining oral health. It is a dynamic health profession, offering opportunities to become a successful, highly respected member of the community. Dentists enjoy excellent compensation and the high demand for dental care is likely to continue in the future. The realization that oral health can have a serious impact on systemic health drives the expansion of new professional opportunities each year. Careers in dentistry Endodontics – diagnosis and treatment of injuries that are specific to the dental nerves and pulp (matter inside the tooth). Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology - study and research of the causes, processes, and effects of diseases with oral manifestations. Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology - taking and interpretation of conventional, digital, CT, MRI, and allied imaging modalities of oral- facial structures and disease. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery – diagnostic services and treatment for injuries, diseases, and defects of the neck, head jaw, and associated structures. Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics – diagnosis andtreatment of problems related to irregular dental development, missing teeth, and other abnormalities. Pediatric Dentistry – treatment of children from birth to adolescence. Periodontics - corrective surgery on gums and supporting bones to treat gum disease. Prosthodontics - restoration and replacement of teeth damaged by decay, lost from trauma or disease, with fixed or removable appliances constructed with newly developed dental material. Dental Public Health - development of policies and programs, such as health care reform, that affect the community at large. What you may not realize is that dentistry is an artistic as well as scientific profession. Ask yourself these questions: Do you enjoy interacting with and helping people? Would you like a career that offers challenge and variety? Would you enjoy being self-employed? Are you interested in helping people maintain and improve their oral health? Do you have good manual dexterity and spatial judgement? Do you have keen memory and a strong interest and ability in science? The scope of a dentist's work is much broader today than ever before. Dentists are oral health experts. They have the skills, training and expertise to know how the health of your teeth, gums and mouth relate to your general health. Today's dentists do more than drill and fill patients' teeth; they perform a wide variety of procedures and functions. Though some dentists specialize or develop expertise in particular areas, the number and range of services that dentists provide has steadily grown. It's a noble profession indeed. Dear mods, This has been beautifully wtlritten I think many others should read this FP things! |
If today leaders actually reason like this and act like this how beautiful will Nigeria have been! |
The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Monday, said he knew nothing about the controversial $9.3m smuggled into South Africa by two Nigerians and an Israeli, using his private jet. Oritsejafor broke his silence during the National Executive Council meeting of CAN at the National Christian Centre, Abuja. The CAN leader regretted that there had been attempts in the media to link him with the incident by mischievous elements, adding that he had kept quiet all the while because he needed to explain his position to the church, which he said, was his primary constituency. Oritsejafor, in his address, a copy which was emailed to our correspondent in Kaduna, declared that he was never a party to the movement of the $9.3m from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunition. He said, “I wish to assure you that I will not do anything to tarnish the image of Jesus Christ or compromise the divine standard of the church. “As you are all aware, the media has been awash in the past few days with an unfortunate incident involving the movement of funds from Nigeria to South Africa. In the unfortunate news reports, attempts have been made to link me directly with the transaction. “So far, I have refrained from making any direct public response pending the time that I would have briefed the leaders of the church and explained my position on the issues to them. “I believe that the primary institution that I owe any explanation to is the church.” Oritsejafor added, “At the risk of being seen to be defending myself, I wish to confirm to the distinguished leaders of the church that the Bombardier Challenger 601 aircraft in question is mine. The aircraft was presented to me as a gift by members of our congregation and ministry partners worldwide at my 40th anniversary of my call into the ministry. “May I be permitted to stress that the aircraft was not given to me by the President of Nigeria, neither was it a settlement for any political favour or patronage. “With the benefit of hindsight, the President of the country was a guest in our church during the anniversary celebration when the jet was presented to me. This has construed an implication that it was a gift from the President of the country.” The CAN leader explained further that “the President of Nigeria has nothing to do with the gift of the aircraft. By the way, I still wonder why all those saying this cannot come out to show proof so that the matter can be put to rest once and for all. Let me say that this might be an issue of the court in the near future.” Oritsejafor, who also explained the circumstances that led to the involvement of his aircraft, said, “In order to ameliorate the cost of maintenance of the aircraft, I sought and got permit to allow the aircraft fly in and out of Nigeria. “Based on this, I leased the aircraft on August 2, 2014, to a company to run it. It was the leasee that entered into an agreement with the people who carried out the transfer of funds. Having leased the aircraft to the Green Coast Produce Company Limited, any transaction undertaken with the aircraft can no longer be attached to me. “Inasmuch as I am shocked and distressed by the incident, I wish to appeal to Christians in Nigeria to remember that a war has been waged against the Nigerian church. This war is being fought on many fronts and this unfortunate incident is another dimension in the assault against the church. “It is clear that those who manipulated this conspiracy desire t o create a schism in the church.” http://www.punchng.com/news/9-3m-scandal-i-have-no-hands-in-the-deal-oritsejafor/ |
orimahspence: I'm a Nigerian,I was born a Muslim and I still remain one, I despise bokoharam terrorists and all that they represent. In fact, despise is not even a strong enough word to convey my true feelings about those who kill innocent people in the name of Islam. I hate them with every fiber of my being.but they kill in the name of Islam and can prove it from the Quran |
1. The stomach’s digestive acids are strong enough to dissolve zinc. Fortunately for us, the cells in the stomach lining renew so quickly that the acids don’t have time to dissolve it. 2. The lungs contain over 300,000 million capillaries (tiny blood vessels). If they were laid end to end, they would stretch 2400km (1500 miles). 3. A mans testicles manufacture 10 million new sperm cells each day – enough that he could repopulate the entire planet in only 6 months! 4. Human bone is as strong as granite in supporting weight. A block of bone the size of a matchbox can support 9 tonnes – that is four times as much as concrete can support. 5. Each finger and toenail takes six months to grow from base to tip. 6. The largest organ in the body is the skin. In an adult man it covers about 1.9m2 (20sq ft). The skin constantly flakes away – in a lifetime each person sheds around 18kg (40 lb) of skin. 7. When you sleep, you grow by about 8mm (0.3in). The next day you shrink back to your former height. The reason is that your cartilage discs are squeezed like sponges by the force of gravity when you stand or sit. 8. The average person in the West eats 50 tonnes of food and drinks 50,000 liters (11,000 gallons) of liquid during his life. 9. Each kidney contains 1 million individual filters. They filter an average of around 1.3 liters (2.2 pints) of blood per minute, and expel up to 1.4 liters (2.5 pints) a day of urine. 10. The focusing muscles of the eyes move around 100,000 times a day. To give your leg muscles the same workout, you would need to walk 80km (50 miles) every day 11. In 30 minutes, the average body gives off enough heat (combined) to bring a half gallon of water to boil. 12. A single human blood cell takes only 60 seconds to make a complete circuit of the body. 13. A foreskin, the size of a postage stamp, from circumcised babies take only 21 days to grow skin that can cover three (3) basketball courts. Amazing isn’t it. Thanks to science. The laboratory-grown skin is used in treating burn patients. 14. The eyes receive approximately 90 percent of all our information, making us basically visual creatures. 15. The female ovaries contain nearly half- a-million egg cells, yet only 400 or so will ever get the opportunity to create a new life. Oh What's my dear Nigeria turning into...A failing electoral system....This is barbaric , nonsense at such..Politics is now business when there are masses to consider.... |
MEILYN: Even people that are not great are being criticised. So what is your point? It obviously depends on the level of criticism! If you are a critic u are a proof of his greatness whether u like it or not |
Happy birthday Sir More grace . All of you criticizing this man are only showing that he is great...I don't know any great man that was not hated... As great as Abraham Lincoln once...one "hater" killed him.... So this shows he's great May God help us all...... |
#give the youths a chance |
I can quite understand the reason why age is a limit for young people to get to key political positions in the country. They probably say the young lack experience but I think lack of experience is better than Corruption. For selfish and political reasons elderly people are invited, appointed and elected to key positions leaving the leaders of tomorrow as spectators of unfair and selfish governance. Many people would should be elder statesmen and advisers lounging with retirement were invited for the national conference while the young ones were marginalised. This is unfair really! If it takes making a law for the young people- the youths to lead, I think It must be done....We must not remain quiet....Am launching this #tag on Nairaland which most of Us youths should start using to send a message to the nation! #give the youths a chance By JID what's your take? |
