Business / Re: I Have A Total Of 700k To Invest Into A Business by Jossy4u1: 12:53pm On Nov 02, 2020
Easyincome24:
In my opinion, if you have not tried a business before, you may need to test your feet in a low risk business before drowning the whole cash.

While starting off in 2017, I ventured into FROZEN FOODS.

Here is the breakdown:

1. UK used deep freezer with follow come compressor double door(cos I have knowledge of refrigeration, so I got it at Lawanson, Ijesha Road Lagos) @#105k
2. Transport to my shop @5k
3. Shop rent with all comission paid @ 150k
4. Frozen scale @3k
5. Cutlass and handglove @2k
6.Cutting stool and other furniture @8k
7. Stationery for book keeping etc.@1k
8. Carton of Kote fish @6.5k
9. Half carton of Titus fish @8k
10.Half carton of Sawa fish @5k
11.Carton of 3-5 hake fish @7k
12. Full carton of Turkey @14k
13. Full carton of Chicken laps @11k
14 Full carton of chicken wings @13k
15. Logistics @1k
16. Gen set (I have regular power in my area but in case)@ 75k
17. Shop renovations including wiring, painting etc. #20k

Total:#434,500
Though as things are now costly at present, budget #500,000

Reach me if you are interested for other information regarding this.

I will also add the second business this first one gave birth to here...

Note this important info
When I began in 2017, I didn't know a jack about the business. Fear of failure crowded my mind but I learnt from a church member doing the business(fulcrum of succeeding is to be mentored).

I also ask around from other sellers how they fix their prices, get their supplies etc (secret of succeeding part2)

Today, I have my 9-5 job yet have someone there who manage it (you can't be cheated in what you know too). I balance my account daily after returning from work (book keeping is a way to track your success).

Throughout the lockdown till this moment, people never stopped buying even when I'm at home, they keep calling, I do online delivery too for them. They make transfer, once I get it, I send my logistic guy to deliver to their doorstep ( advantage of integrating tech to your business)

Lastly, the business is expanding as I have added other things like, groundnut oil in gallons, palm oil in gallons, seasoning ingredient in packs, semovita, wheat, rice in bags etc as they complement the biz( search for complementors when the biz is growing, hear feedbacks from customers as they are pionters to your next level)

I wish you all the best in your search.

This is so insightful, of all the suggestions here yours is more detailed and can be replicated.
I am also interested in this venture and will send you a dm. Please respond

You have a heart of pure gold and for this beautiful act, may God bless and enlarge your coast, may all your dreams and aspirations be met.

Please whoever is a beneficiary of his kindness should pass it on to others, that way our society will be a better place.

Hello @Patricktoks,

I have a word of advise for you, sir. If you are interested in pursuing a PhD abroad, specifically the USA, your B.Sc, Masters and experience in Animal Science would be better appreciated and utilized. You would have a full ride scholarship that comes in form of Graduate Teaching Assistantship or Research Assistanship and you would be paid a monthly stipend that would take care of your living expenses, with some little savings if you are that prudent. You could follow this thread; https://www.nairaland.com/5233208/general-usa-student-visa-enquiries-part, ask questions and you will be good to go.
If you are sincerely interested, I could pay for your GRE and TOEFL exams, if money to register for these two important exams is the problem.I would also personally recommend some schools for you, and guide you in case you need specific information at every step. Let me know your thought concerning this. Please, note, I'm not an agent, and I've got no ulterior motive behind rendering this assistance(if you choose to accept). I 'm simply a young Nigerian who has followed this part too, and still hoping for the best in life.

Ok...so for someone going for passport renewal, will they also need state of origin certificate?

State of Origin Certificate is not required for passport renewal

Assuming one of the parent is a guarantor, you do not require the State of Origin Certificate for the children, but since the whole family is going for renewal/fresh passport, then y'all need the Certificate.

God day good people.
We are family of 5, 1 renew and 4 fresh..do we all need to get State of origin certificate and guarantor's forms for DIY. Thanks .

God bless you all that have contributed in this room. I gathered all the information needed for DIY here and did my capturing in Osogbo immigration office last month, but right now all what they are saying is there is no booklet, but I needed the passport as Soon as possible, and when I requested for my enrollment id in-order to use it for checking up and complain from appropriate channels , I was told by them that they don't issue it anymore. Please how true is this? Also can I make use of my application id, ref no, or validation no in replacement of the enrollment id to do follow-up?

Sure, you can use your Application ID and Reference No. to follow up and don't forget to tweet at them on @nigimmigration

I want to renew my passport...hope I can self process it?
...and do you think I can get it by this month end?

Sure you can as long as the renewal is done in Ikoyi or Abuja, where they have the booklet of enhanced passport. I do hope you have got your NIN?

I captured today at Ikoyi. It was frustrating, as they ignored people with brown files and were just attending to those that did express service, but the funny thing is, they also had to que. God was on my side today, as we were just 3 self processing applicants on a long queue of over 60+ express applicants. The officers tried ignoring us, but God came through for us. My pick up date states 12th, but I'll just wait till next week instead.

My advice: DIY, cause if you pay the 40-45k, you'll still end up staying on a queue for hours, as there are many officers bringing their own people. So why not save the extra 15k, Nigeria is hard enough these days.

You have the right to report the officers who ignored you, they have been warned to give priority to self processing applicants, infact in my own case they treated me like a VIP and move me into the Capture Room while other express applicants were on the long queue.

RandomGuy000:
Hi all,

The thread subject may look a bit odd. I'll explain. I'm helping a friend in Nigeria who needs a new passport. My friend lives very far from Abuja. My friend has said it will cost 50000 Naira. But when I visit sites like https://immigration.gov.ng/standard-passport/ , its saying its 15000 Naira. I have also seen this 15000 figure on a few sites.

Now the passport being requested is a full booklet with photo etc. So I am not sure if this has something to do with being a full booklet passport vs an e-passport etc. Also, not sure if its just more expensive getting the full booklet passport in the regional areas? I assume that comes from Abuja so may add to costs?

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this thread.

Thanks

Please ask your friend to do it the official way in Abuja, the enhanced passport's official price is N25,000 + N1,000 application processing fee (only the old passport cost N17,000 and booklet is scarce), the process if seamless if he can do it all by himself, just make sure all requested supporting documentation are complete.
What most people don't realise is that they give more priority to you if you process it yourself than using the Immigration Officials and paying exorbitant prices to them, the officers will give you reasons why you shouldn't do it yourself because of their greed.

I will encourage you to do it yourself.

Hello everyone, I have a little challenge. I want to apply for a fresh passport and I intend to use my wife as my next of kin, but I read somewhere on the portal that the name given should be same as it appears in your means of identification.

The challenge is that the surname on her National Id card is her father's but she now bears my surname. For those who had this issue, how did you go about it? Did you use your wife's name as it appears on her identity card as your next of kin?

Thank you.

Please note that next of kin means of identification is not required; you are at liberty to fill any name you like. You should however state your relationship with your next of kin in the form.

Hi my DIYers, I tried following the guide her to DIY but I discovered my charge is different from the one I'm seeing here.
The charges came up to 17k(I've not clicked to pay yet) for 32pages.That's my first worry.
2ndly, I'm actually applying to renew and also do change of name. I tried calling the contact number and they said all change of name and change of data is done in Abuja. But I also heard that change of name due to marriage can be done anywhere.
Has anybody gone the DIY for change of name, kindly assist.
My main challenge is the bolded.
Thank you
If you're applying in Ikoyi or Abuja passport office, the official price is 25k + 1k transaction fee using a Visa card or N500 if it's payment through the bank due to the fact that they issue the new Enhanced Passport. Other passport offices are still using the old passport in the sum of 17k.
It is advisable to get the new enhanced passport.

My experience at the Ikoyi passport office on 5th of March, 2020

I wanted to renew my passport and my Dad wants to get a fresh passport. I asked a man filing my company's returns if I should be able to do it myself but might need his help in case I got stuck (he has an office in the Passport office). He responded that I was on my own o, he has no help to render, that if I can't use the services of an Immigration officials like I have been doing in the past, then I should face its consequences should in case it arise. I now requested that he should give me a contact person; the person charged me N40,000 and according to him that's the 'best and reasonable' price he can go for considering the man who introduced me cheesy.

Again I contacted another Immigration official from my school's alumni group and he charged me N40,000, according to him that is the best price he can offer and that is even because I am his classmate while in the Uni ; lipsrsealed.

I was now crossed between doing it myself or going through these 'greedy' officials that masquerade themselves as my 'friend'.

Then I make my inquiry from this great forum. I read through people's experiences from when this thread opened, because I was determined to learn from others. The inspiration of people who gave their testimonies encouraged me to do it all by myself and save some bucks, considering that we are two applicants; myself and Dad.

I sum up the courage and paid online N25,000 + N1,000 service charge (using Visa card). Payment was made on 3rd of March, 2020, interview date given was 2nd of April, 2020 (the date is not strictly followed, as you can pay same day and get captured the same day). We were to go for capturing the following day, but Guarantor's part for my Dad needs to be taken into consideration. I printed a Guarantor's form, gave my colleague to fill with her passport photograph, photocopy of her passport data page and Driver's licence. On 4th of March, 2020, we got it stamped at the Magistrate court.

On the 5th of March, 2020 we set up early for the interview/capturing, I collected the form from the pleasant lady at the Servicom desk, made photocopies of it and wrote my application letter. I gave her all the requirements, she opened a file for Dad and I (fresh and renewal), signed her part and wrote on the brown file all other offices that needs to stamp our documents.

It is imperative to mention here that our files was the only brown file out of all the applicants on that fateful day. All other files which were opened by an Agent (Immigration Officials) for their respective Clients were in colour white.

I went as she has instructed. Lo and behold the officials signing the files gave my file more attention than that of their colleagues'. I must state unequivocally that the process was swift.

We were on queue to capture, but an official on sighting my Dad due to age ask him to leave the queue and requested he capture immediately, we went inside the capturing hall and got captured.

We went back to the Servicom lady to submit our files and left the Ikoyi Passport office around 1.35 pm.

Thanks to Nairalanders that contributed one way or the other on this thread. I promise to give back by enlightening all others in need of clarifications on grey areas at no cost. Feel free to ask your question on this forum and I will respond to it so that others too can benefit from it.

It pays off to Do It Youself!!!

Good people of Nairaland, good afternoon, I have done the needful, paid and selected ikoyi , 32 pages , 5years , .
What I don't like is the interview date which is 3rd April.
Can I go next week and see if I can capture. I need it month end . Pls advise

Please go there any day. Just make sure you get there early like 9.00 am so you can capture on time.
Travel / Re: Cost Of A Nigeria International Passport by Jossy4u1: 9:02am On Mar 06, 2020
You can go and capture at anytime, the date given for interview is not strictly adhered to. I paid on the 3rd of March, 2020 and was given the 2nd of April 2020 as my interview date. I went there yesterday and was captured (self processing).

What you need to take along is:

1. Expired passport (original for sighting and photocopy)
2. NIN slip (original for sighting and photocopy)
3. 2 passport photographs
4. Print out application form and receipt

Approach the Servicom lady, she will give you a form to fill (make photocopy of the form before filling), you will also write an application letter (the format is pasted there).

Once you have all this, she will list out all the offices you will go to for stamp and signatures, it was so fast and seamless.

cremeandchic:

Same predicament.

They gave me 1st of April.

Guys, please, what else do I need to take along for passport renewal.

I know I need:

1)The reciepts and Print-outs from the online application process

2) NIN Slip

3) Expired passport

Please, is there anything else I need to take along as I would be going to Ikoyi center from ibadan and i can't afford to miss out anything.

Thank you all

Politics / Muammar Gaddafi Killed In Gun Battle by Jossy4u1: 2:07pm On Oct 20, 2011
(Reuters) - Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi died of wounds suffered on Thursday as fighters battling to complete an eight-month-old uprising against his rule overran his hometown Sirte, Libya's interim rulers said.

His killing, which came swiftly after his capture near Sirte, is the most dramatic single development in the Arab Spring revolts that have unseated rulers in Egypt and Tunisia and threatened the grip on power of the leaders of Syria and Yemen.

"He (Gaddafi) was also hit in his head," National Transitional Council official Abdel Majid Mlegta told Reuters. "There was a lot of firing against his group and he died."

Mlegta told Reuters earlier that Gaddafi, who was in his late 60s, was captured and wounded in both legs at dawn on Thursday as he tried to flee in a convoy which NATO warplanes attacked. He said he had been taken away by an ambulance.

There was no independent confirmation of his remarks.

An anti-Gaddafi fighter said Gaddafi had been found hiding in a hole in the ground and had said "Don't shoot, don't shoot" to the men who grabbed him.

His capture followed within minutes of the fall of Sirte, a development that extinguished the last significant resistance by forces loyal to the deposed leader.

The capture of Sirte and the death of Gaddafi means Libya's ruling NTC should now begin the task of forging a new democratic system which it had said it would get under way after the city, built as a showpiece for Gaddafi's rule, had fallen.

Gaddafi, wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of ordering the killing of civilians, was toppled by rebel forces on August 23 after 42 years of one-man rule over the oil-producing North African state.

NTC fighters hoisted the red, black and green national flag above a large utilities building in the center of a newly-captured Sirte neighborhood and celebratory gunfire broke out among their ecstatic and relieved comrades.

Hundreds of NTC troops had surrounded the Mediterranean coastal town for weeks in a chaotic struggle that killed and wounded scores of the besieging forces and an unknown number of defenders.

NTC fighters said there were a large number of corpses inside the last redoubts of the Gaddafi troops. It was not immediately possible to verify that information.
Politics / Court Nullifies LASTMA Powers To Impose Fine On Offenders by Jossy4u1: 1:20pm On Sep 22, 2011
LASTMA Cant impose fine on offenders -court

A Federal High Court in Lagos has voided some sections of the law establishing the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Justice Okon Abang, in a judgment, declared that Sections 9, 11, 12 and 13 of the law establishing  LASTMA is unconstitutional and of no effect on the grounds that it contravenes Section 36 of the Constitution, which guarantee every citizen’s right to fair hearing.

The court upheld LASTMA’s power to arrest traffic offenders, but held that it lacks the powers to impose fine on such offenders. It added that the power to impose fine on anybody who contravenes an existing law resides only with the court.

The court  held that the imposition of fine on any traffic offender by LASTMA amounted to being a judge in its own cause.

“Section 9, 11, 12, and 13 of the law establishing LASTMA is unconstitutional. It is against the spirit of the Section 36 of the Constitution, which gives right of fair hearing to every Nigerian. Moreover, that would amount to being a judge in your own cause,” the court held.

It awarded N500,000 damages against LASTMA.

A Lagos  resident, Jonathan Odutola, whose car was impounded in March and compelled to pay a fine instituted the suit.

He said his car developed some mechanical problems on the Third Mainland Bridge and stopped, and that in an effort to ensure that the car did not obstruct traffic, he immediately called a towing-van which towed the vehicle completely out of the road.
