Dear Insurance Info, I bought two cars from a friend that sells cars. We have been friends for decades. I bought a car from him about 5 years ago and it served me really well. So when I wanted to buy another car, naturally, I reached out to him. I bought two cars from him. One for my personal use and another for my hire purchase business. https://insuranceinfong.com/i-bought-two-cars-accidented-car/ |
I started this insurance information site, on the 1st of July 2019. It was a way to educate Nigerians about Insurance. The benefits, and how to maximize the insurance they pay or should be paying for.... https://insuranceinfong.com/your-insurance-blog-was-really-helpful/ |
Comprehensive insurance has a way of giving us an unnecessary confidence. We assume that once you have comprehensive insurance, any problem with the car would be covered. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not Continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/insurance-will-not-protect-you-when-you-have-mechanical-problems/ |
A lot of people still do not believe in car insurance in Nigeria, due to the bad reputation the industry has had. I don’t blame them, because I was a skeptic myself until about 3 years ago. Today I know that insurance works because I use it. So I have put together 3 reasons why having insurance will save you money. continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/3-reasons-why-having-insurance-will-save-you-money/ |
Today I will like to give you another reason why comprehensive insurance is awesome to have. I recently lost a colleague, who died in his sleep. So my company put together an event at Muson Center in Lagos Island so we can mourn with his family. After the event ended at about 7pm, I opened up my Google map to check the fastest home. The map directed me to take Third Mainland then Carter to Ijora to connect to Bode Thomas. I was hesitant as I typically try to avoid Carter Bridge due to car robberies that happen there. continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/this-is-another-reason-why-comprehensive-insurance-is-awesome/ |
The primary reason I started this informational site was because of the ignorance about car insurance in Nigeria. We pay for third party insurance but we do not use it. Most people do not know what their third party liability covers. So, here are the 4 things that could be covered by liability insurance continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/4-things-that-could-be-covered-by-liability-insurance/ |
A lot of people are not aware of the things that comprehensive insurance won’t cover. It is falsely believed that having comprehensive insurance covers all losses. The other day I was discussing insurance with a friend of mine. She narrated a story about how her driver stole her car and the insurance company didn’t pay for the car. I asked her how it happened and she informed me that her driver dropped her off at work as usual. Around 2 pm that day, she called the driver to take her out but his lines were switched off continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/5-things-comprehensive-insurance-wont-cover/ |
When I first moved back to Nigeria I didn’t know how car insurance worked in the country. Everyone told me it didn’t work and that I should forget about it. The word on the street was having insurance is a waste of time and money. It wasn’t until a friend of mine, Onajeme Otomiewo, showed me the light, did I know that insurance saves you time and money. I didn’t realize the difficulty involved in getting someone to fix your car after an accident. My sister in-law tried to warn me but I didn’t listen. I learnt the hard way. continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/not-having-insurance-a-waste-of-time-and-money/ |
I post about car insurance at www.insuranceinfong.com yesterday someone from transports.ng copied my article word for word and posted on their website as theirs. Today I found another blog is charging people to read my article. I'm wondering why people blatantly steal from others. It's pathetic and I feel helpless. Someone should please help me stop these thieves. Social media influencers please help me expose these people. Help a brother out.

I need advice. Today I was surfing on the net and I found an article that was a complete replica of my blog. Someone from Transports.ng had copied my work word for word including pics without giving me credit. See my blog post here : https://insuranceinfong.com/5-reasons-why-car-insurance-is-better-than-car-tracker/ see the copied post here: https://transports.ng/2020/02/13/5-reasons-why-car-insurance-is-better-than-car-tracker/ This is bad because they are a more known brand so they are ranking higher on google search for my article. How do I get them to take it down or give me credit? |

Car tracker is a device installed on a vehicle so that in the event of a theft, you can track down the vehicle or inform the police so they can track down the vehicle and recover it. It leverages on a network of satellites to determine the location of the device that was installed on your vehicle. Car tracker could be seen by some as a form of car insurance in that the service allows you to locate your stolen car. But you know the popular saying, if it is not panadol, it is not the same thing as panadol. I am here to give you 5 reasons why comprehensive car insurance is better than car tracker. https://insuranceinfong.com/5-reasons-why-car-insurance-is-better-than-car-tracker/ |

I have always been an advocate for the banning of Okadas and Kekes because they are not safe public means of transportation. In normal climes, overtaking happens on the drivers side of the vehicle in Nigeria, Kekes and Okadas will come at you from all directions, including against traffic! They don’t obey traffic rules, and they would never stop at the red lights. It makes driving in Lagos very tiring and hazardous. The Lagos state government has now banned Kekes and Okads in Lagos. The government sighted accidents and security risks attached with these means of transportation. The government also claims that Kekes and Okadas are not part of the “mega city blueprint”. The ban effectively shuts down the businesses of companies such as Gokada, Maxng, etc. But these businesses applied for and got licenses to operate in Lagos by the same Lagos state government that is now saying it isn’t part of their blue print. Even the current Governor, Sanwo Olu, encouraged them at his speech at “The Platform” continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/why-the-government-should-ban-trailers-before-okadas-in-lagos/ |

A lot of us buy “accidented” cars because we want to save money. But there are things you need to know before buying an accidented car. Salvaged vehicles, or in Nigerian parlance accidented cars, are cars that have been deemed as a total loss by the insurance company. Because these vehicles have been involved in some major accidents, the airbags usually go off. Subsequently, they become a potential hazard to drive. continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/what-you-need-to-know-before-you-buy-an-accidented-car/ |

I have a WhatsApp group where I keep up with my friend from my secondary school days. I noticed that one of us had been absent for about a week which was unusual. So I called him to know if everything was okay. Emeka how far na. I no dey see you for the group again, I say make I make sure say everything dey okay. “O boy you won’t believe what happened to me” he retorted. “I was robbed at gun point, my car, wallet, phones were all taken. I am using this cheap phone that doesn’t have internet features until end of month when they pay salary”. Wow, are you kidding me? What happened? “I left home at 5:30 am to beat the VI traffic. I opened my gate, drove out and parked in front of the gate. Then I got out and went to lock the gate. As I turned around to get into my car, I saw 3 guys with guns come out of no where. continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/how-insurance-saved-me-after-i-was-robbed-at-gun-point/ |
Dear Insurance Info, I just saved up N1 million naira to buy a used car. I found a Toyota Corolla 2003 for that price and I am making plans to buy it. I saw your column on Nairaland the other day. Reading the column made me realise that I never factored insurance into my thinking. Now I am worried and confused about spending another N50,000 for insurance. It took me almost a year to save up this money and I don’t have another N50,000.00 to buy comprehensive insurance. Should I wait to buy the car or go ahead and plan to add comprehensive insurance later? Thank you, Jude A. Dear Jude, First let me take this opportunity to congratulate you for raising N1 million in this tight economy. continue reading... https://insuranceinfong.com/i-cant-afford-comprehensive-insurance/ |

Dear Insurance Info, I just got a GL450 2009, though “Tokunbo” yet to be registered. I am considering doing a comprehensive insurance because of the experience I had with my previous ML320. A lot of times other driver hit me which affected my bumper. Each time, when I looked at the cost of replacement or panel beating, I was left with no option than to just continue driving the SUV with a broken bumper both back and front. Because naturally, I am the type that doesn’t like to stay on the road fighting to have my vehicle repaired, especially when they start pleading. I end up walking away from the scene and having my vehicle fixed by myself. Now, I am confused at what rate I should insure my vehicle. It was cheaper for me to bring it in myself as the total value I used in bringing the vehicle into the country is just 50% of the Market value here in Nigeria. Thanks Dotun A. continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/i-bought-my-car-cheaper-than-the-normal-price-what-price-should-i-insure-it-for/ |
Hello, I’m JP Attueyi I started this informational site because I feel there is a knowledge gap about the insurance industry in Nigeria. 3rd party Liability insurance is mandatory in Nigeria, so people are paying for it but they are not taking advantage of it. I spent my first 18 years in Nigeria, then the next 12 in the US before I came back to Nigeria so, I understand how insurance works and I intend to share my experience with you. My aim is to enlighten you about the insurance industry, show you how to take advantage of the liability insurance you have already paid for, and consider getting comprehensive car insurance if you don’t already have it. I have had a lot of “damn it” moments trying to navigate driving in Lagos, Nigeria. Now I am sharing my experience to educate you on how to best protect yourself and your family out there. My aim is to answer any questions you may have about insurance and teach you how to ensure you make successful claims. Read about us on https://insuranceinfong.com |
Car accidents are a common sight in Nigeria. Bad roads, impatient drivers and bad drivers are the main culprits. Furthermore, We have a lot of drivers that didn’t go to driving school. A common sight right after the accident is people gathering around the car, either fighting over who is right and who is wrong, or begging to be forgiven for the damage on the other party’s car. In our society, we believe that begging or apologizing takes care of problems. As such, when you hit my car and destroy my bumper, you apologize and all is good. You will see other pedestrians come up to the scene of the accident and say things like, “e don beg you na”, “you big pass am, God wey give you money to buy the motor go give you money to repair am”, “sorry for am na” etc. One is left wondering what you are supposed to do with the apology. Can you go to a panel beater and say, “oga them beg me so I say make I beg you to fix my car?” Or will you take the “I beg” to Ladipo to buy a new headlight? The Solution continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/ignorance-insurance-costing-money/ |
One day, I was riding with my sister in-law in her car. We struck a conversation about driving in Nigeria. She talked me how Nigerians can turn 2 lanes into 4 lanes. The fact that a lot of drivers do not know the rules of driving, and some of them do not have drivers’ licenses, or insurance so you have to drive defensively because if someone hits your car, they resort to begging for mercy. Pedestrians and other motorists are wont to join in and beg you to let them go scot-free. I disagreed and told her if someone hits my car, they better have car insurance. Else, they should be ready to pay out of pocket for the repair of my vehicle. She smiled and said “do you think this is the US? You will understand with time, after all some that are insured have fake car insurance” continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/how-to-verify-your-car-insurance-is-authentic-or-fake-in-nigeria/ |
I was driving in Lagos one day when a lady driving in another car exited a bridge to join my lane. It prompted me to slow down and let her merge in front of me. She showed her appreciation by waving to say thank you. Along the route, she changed lane to the lane on my left and we were driving almost side by side. I got a little ahead of her as traffic started to build up. Then I noticed that the vehicle in front of me had broken down, I signaled to let the driver in front of her know that I wanted to change lanes but he drove aggressively bumper to bumper to the car in front of him. I tried to wave at him to get his attention, but he was having none of it. I thought to myself, no problem, I just let the lady behind you to get ahead of me less than 5 minutes ago, I am sure she will let me get in front of her. But to my dismay, the woman started driving bumper to bumper with the car in front of her. Any attempt to get her attention was rebuffed as she just stared straight ahead pretending like she could not see me trying to get her attention. continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/driving-etiquette/ |
went to FGC Odogbolu(Fego) and if you attended any of the Federal government colleges, you would understandthat there is a bond and camaraderie that inevitably exist amongst us. So, when a friend called to inform me that one of us was getting married in Ibadan, it was a no-brainer that I would attend. Another ex fegosian offered to drive to Ibadan, so he picked me up on the fateful day with his car looking sparkling new; he had just repainted the vehicle. While on Lagos Ibadan expressway, a trailer came out of no where and brushed his car, the driver didn’t even bother to stop. Prompting my friend to pull over at the nearest safe place and come down to examine his vehicle. He realized the car had a major gash on the front fender which left him a little irritated. But, it wasn’t the overtly vexed disposition I was expecting from a guy that just got his newly repaired car hit by a truck! continue reading https://insuranceinfong.com/why-comprehensive-insurance-is-a-must-have/ |
