So the house has been quiet on this Nigerian Army helicopter Bell UH-1H pilot landing.

Me: that landing was just inches short from killing everyone on board, that was dangerous and reckless.

Online expect: I am not always happy when Nigerians always contribute to what they don't have knowledge about and it's very sad

please what do you guys take the pilots as , a bus driver of what, what if you guys witness a cross wind landing or take off what are you going to say about that.

This Helicopter is Bell UH-1H Iroquois ("Huey"wink

You will all noticed that when it was landing something hit the ground that's the Tail Skid and it's designed for such purposes

Purpose of the tail skid:

1. Protects the tail boom

2. Prevents the tail boom from striking the ground during takeoff, landing, or hover:
Without it, a tail strike could severely damage the helicopter's structure.

3. Protects the tail rotor
The tail rotor is one of the most vulnerable parts of a helicopter.
By keeping the tail at a safe height, the tail skid helps prevent the tail rotor blades from contacting the ground or obstacles.

4. Absorbs impact loads
If the pilot lands with the tail too low, the skid contacts the ground first and absorbs much of the impact, reducing stress on the tail boom.

4. Provides a warning to the pilot
Contact between the tail skid and the ground alerts the pilot that the tail attitude is becoming too low, allowing corrective action before more serious damage occurs.

This is how it works:

During a steep takeoff or landing, if the helicopter rotates nose-up excessively, the tail skid touches the ground before the tail boom or tail rotor does.

You guys should not be saying things out of ignorance, those pilots are trained and professionals, every aircraft have its own working principle and those that design aircraft had make it in such a way that there are failed safe systems and safelife system on the aircraft

Reading people comments indeed there is a pandemic of Olodo uprising in Nigeria.

How true is this news..

Nigeria Eyes Twelve Kawasaki KV-107 Helicopters From Saudi Arabia

📌 The Nigerian military is reportedly preparing for the arrival of 12 Kawasaki KV-107 helicopters from Saudi Arabia, a move that would provide a substantial boost to the nation’s heavy-lift and logistical capabilities.

📌 This development first surfaced through reports from Honourable Aliyu Ibrahim Gebi, the Special Adviser to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in early January 2026.

📌 While Gebi did not issue an explicit confirmation of the transfer, his history of accurately predicting military acquisitions has prompted analysts to treat the report with weight.

📌 The specific branch of the Nigerian military that will operate the 12 KV-107 units remains a point of speculation.

and I used to be very wary of propeller planes like the ones Green Africa uses.

I was of the belief that jet engines are better/safer than propeller engine aircrafts, but your comment caught my attention as a mech engineer.

Airpeace should please understudy Qatar Airways operation and safety procedures, the only international airline in the world that have never recorded a single air crash since 32 years of operation
He was talking of small cessna planes, not ATR 42 that Green Africa uses ohhhh.

Google Crashes involving ATR 42, the last i know was somewhere in brasil or so with issues of icing and the plane just fell straight down, it didn't even glide a hundred meters.

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of this AH-1Z Viper procurement. Yes, the may be compatibility advantages as we operate some Bell helos, but my issue is political. We all know the conditions and restrictions they're fond of setting. We should've stuck with the Turkish T-129 and the Russian Mi-24/35Ms.
But if the restrictions were that bad then what was the Super Tucano doing in Benin Republic, earlier we leant that the Tucano's should only be operational against the BH terrorist huh

The U.S. will fast‑track Nigeria’s arms orders. That could bring the NAF’s 12 AH‑1Z Viper attack helicopters in earlier than the 2028 target, and give the Army Aviation Corps its 12 MD‑530F Cayuse Warrior Plus scout/attack helicopters sooner. The two contracts together are worth about $2 billion.

The Nigerian Army has deployed the T-55 MBT in COIN ops.

In October, a terrorist attempt to force their way into Kukawa Town using a VBIED was stopped. Troops had engaged the VBIED with RPGs, which bounced off its armoured surface.

The VBIED was then destroyed by a T-55 tank.

Copied...
