The merge has been hotly debated in crypto circles, and it has been delayed before. But in late August 2022, the Ethereum Foundation, which supports the network, said it was zeroing in on a merge date in mid-September.

Will ETH 2 replace ETH?

The Ethereum 2.0 upgrade is not technically a replacement for Ethereum. Instead, it is best described as a merger. In the Ethereum.org FAQs for Eth2, the site also states it is "not accurate to think of Eth2 as a separate blockchain."

The Merge is expected between September 10-20, 2022, the Ethereum foundation disclosed.
