Many times Africa has been dubbed as an 'old continent'. This is because of the many old and odd practices in the continent, both in nature and governance. In the list of the world's 20 longest serving leaders who has held powers, Africa boast of at least 10. We take a look at some of the oldest serving presidents on the continent. Power is addictive and some times, this addiction might never be part of a good thing. Some of these leaders the people love them for their bravery, national development, commitment to the people and altruism. Here is a rundown of the continent's leaders who have spent not less than 30 years on the throne. 1. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo -Equatorial Guinea (1979 - Present) 41 Yearre-elected7 years old Obiang seized power in 1979 coup from his uncle (Francisco Macias Nguema), who was later prosecuted and executed by firing squad for mass genocide, public looting and treason. Obiang since August 1979 has been in power and has overseen the country's emergence as an important oil producer. In 1982, the country nominally returned to civilian rule with the enactment of a slightly less authoritarian constitution. He was at first elected as a seven year term president; he was the only candidate thou. In 1989, he also stood unopposed and was reelected as the president. In 1996, other political parties were allowed to participate, he also won the election. In 2002 and 2009, he was re-elected for a third and fourth term respectively with large percent of the total vote casted. The government announced on 28 April 2016 that Obiang had won the election by an overwhelming margin, as expected. 2. Paul Biya - Cameroon (1982 - Present) 38 Years The 87 year old Paul Biya took over in 1982 from President Ahmadou Ahidjo and has won a series of elections, most recently a 2018 vote that his opponents called fraudulent. After the rift between him and his successor (Ahidjo) who fled to France on exile, Biya brought forward a presidential election which was slated for 1985. He ran unopposed and won 99.98% of the vote. He won by a landslide in 1985 and 1988 after CNU was transformed into the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement. 1990. In 1992, according to official results, Biya won the first multiparty presidential election, held in October with about 40% of the vote. In October, 1997, the election was boycotted by the main opposition parties and Biya was re-elected with 92.6 percent of the vote. Biya won another seven year term in 2004 after the opposition alleged fraud. Also in 2008, the National Assembly made a significant changes to the constitution which allowed the removal of the term limits, so he can run for as long as the people wishes. The change also provided for the President to enjoy immunity from prosecution for his actions as President after leaving office. 3. Yoweri Museveni – Uganda (1986 - Present) 34 Years President Yoweri Museveni has been at the helm of Uganda’s government since the toppling of Idi Amin and Milton Obote (January, 1986). The first democratic election saw Museveni defeat Paul Ssemogerere of the Democratic Party, who contested the election as a candidate for the "Inter-party forces coalition", and the upstart candidate Kibirige Mayanja. Museveni won with 75.5 percent of the vote from a turnout of 72.6 percent of eligible voters. Also, in 2001, Museveni won the presidential elections by a substantial majority. His only real challenger was his former friend and personal physician Kizza Besigy. In 2006, his candidacy for presidency sparked criticism as he had said he was running for the last time in 2001. The 23 February 2006 elections were Uganda's first multi-party elections in 25 years and were seen as a test of its democratic credentials. Museveni won by 59% ahead of his opponent. He was re-elected for the fourth and fifth time in 2011 and 2016 respectively. 4. Idriss Déby – Chad (1990 - Present) 30 Years Idriss Déby took over Chad’s presidency in 1990 after a rift formed between him and the then-president Hissene Habré. He has been re-elected for the majority of votes every five years since then. Against the public outcry, in June 2005, a successful referendum was held to eliminate a two-term constitutional limit, which enabled Déby to run again in 2006. More than 77% of voters approved which enabled him to run for presidency in 2006 while opposition boycotted the poll. The youths are the leaders of tomorrow, only when the country has provided means where they can take the control of the system. Absolute power corrupts and we can assume that such is the situation in many African countries, where old ideas are still being enforced by people who had been in power for long. I believe it is time they breed the youths and give them a chance also to bring new initiatives for national development. As United States begins election today, Donald Trump who is a Republican is contesting against, former Vice-President Joe Biden, a Democrat. It is quite paradoxical that many Nigerians loves him and are rooting for his triumph despite not being too vocal towards Nigerians problems. So why does Nigerians like him? While Obama prioritised gay marriage rights, abortion and Islamizing propaganda during his tenure which angered a lot of Nigerians, Trump was seen as someone who is straight forward, bombastic and a self made billionaire. The fact that he called the country a 'shit hole', castigated the president as 'lifeless' and his 'America First' policy was supposed to make people hate him but his views echoed with the reasonings of many Nigerians on the state of the country. Under Trump, Nigerian immigrants were no longer accorded permanent residence visas to the United States. Trump has publicly stated his preference for lily-white Scandinavian immigrants instead of blacks from Africa. This also coincided with the opinions of many that blacks should stay in their continent and see to her development. Although perceptions of Trump varies across Nigeria’s diverse cultural and religious landscape, there is a large affinity towards him. He has successfully been able to convince the likes of Biafrans Agitators, Pseudo Christians, Book Sellers and others admirers through his talks, policies and social media campaign. Biafrans sessionist sees Trump as their messiah. The nationalism intoned in Trump’s “America First” mantra is for these Nigerians a rallying cry for “Biafra First.” They also assume that because he supported Brexit in the United Kingdom, he would support Biafran exit from Nigeria. Trump's Islamophobia also resonate with the thinking of these Biafrans. They believed that North Muslim dominace is the reason why Igbos are cut off from the political mainstream and oppression faced in the country. For the Booksellers, Trump's book (Art of the Deal) has been a best seller in the country for many years now. We saw how traffic hawkers throw his books to our face on the roads which made him even more popular. Trump’s Art of the Deal and Think Big is regularly stocked by Church and School Society bookstore which are always sold out. Trump is not universally popular among Christians in Nigeria, many of whom are critical of past allegations of sexual abuse, racism and financial misconduct. However, during the visit of President Buhari to the White House in 2018, he talked about the murder of Christians in the North. He revealed that he is going to work very, very hard on the problem and will not allow the persecution to last long. This soften the hearts of many Christians to him. The LGBTQ activists and followers in the country also love him because he has not sponsored any hate agendas on them. Trump had in the past Trump supported the LGBT rights, welcomed them in his hotels and clubs. Other ardent supporters of Donald Trump in Nigeria see him as a God given figure who is blunt with the truth and are always conservative about his controversial policies. For them, he embodies and gives voice to the ultra-conservative attitudes that hold great sway in Nigeria. They believe he is the type of leader the country needs to take it to a greater height. For this, Trump gets a free pass or has his other views enthusiastically endorsed. Today, Americans are all set to make a choice between President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden. The two candidates have vastly different views on nearly every issue, right from policies impacting the world to Covid-19 pandemic. Who do you think will triumph? From Opera News

-How Mercy Eke And Ike Onyeama Are Using Nengi To Clout chase Ahead Of Their New Show There is outrage among BBNaija fans as words are being traded between the Merike shippers and the Ninjas. Some days ago, it was rumoured that Mercy Eke and Ike Onyeama has broken up ahead of the much anticipated season 2 of their show. Mercy revealed a strange man on his post and said she is 'Mrs H' henceforth. She also shaded Ike Onyeama in one of her post too. Ike replied with a shade also on most of his posts on social media ever since Mercy's revelation. In one of his post, he revealed that the moment everything changed was when he realized that he deserved so much more. To continue the gimmick, Ike cropped out a photo of him and Nengi and captioned it 'We know why you are mad'. His latest antics did not come well with most of Nengi's fans who believe that the two lover birds are clout chasing to gather more attention for season 2 of Mercy And Ike Show. They want them to pay their favourite her cheque to promote their show. You will recall that same script was played before the release of Season 1 edition of the show. Mercy Eke travelled all the way to London and was in romantic pose with Willie. Many thought she had jilted him and kept their attention focused on how it will turn out. Mercy came back to the country and everything between them went back to normal. Prior to that, Tacha was also caught up in their script. She was seen in a car with Ike and she even called him her driver. Many of Mercy fans were furious and thought he was leaving their favourite. It was all stunt. The fans are now aware of their game plan now and we look forward to seeing how it will play out. Clout chasing or reality, time will tell what both lovers are cooking. What are your thoughts about this? Source: Opera News

Ahead of Champions League group stage match between Juventus and Barcelona, we take a look at the thirteen players that have played for both teams during their careers. 1. Juan Pablo Sorin The former Argentine played as left back or left midfielder during his career and he was nicknamed Juampi. Sorín began his career playing in the lower division of the Argentine league for Argentinos Juniors , a Buenos Aires football club. He also captained the Argentina Under-20 side who won the 1995 FIFA World Youth Championship played in Qatar. After the tournament, his contract was bought by Juventus but he failed to establish himself into the team and had a total of four appearances under manager Marcelo Lippi. Sorin was acquired by FC Barcelona after he occupied the non-EU quota along with Juan Román Riquelme and Roberto Bonano . He made his Spanish League debut on 9 February 2003. The match was between Barcelona and Athletic de Bilbao and ended 2–2. He spent half a season with the Catalans before he moved away to PSG. 2. Martin Caceres The Uruguan professional played mainly as a central defender and can also play on either flank, mostly as a right back. Cáceres joined Barcelona on 4 June 2008 from Villarreal, with a reported transfer fee of €16.5 million. A buyout clause of €50 million was inserted in the deal, which ran until June 2012. He was sparsely used at the Catalan club and was the fourth choice stopper behind Marquez, Pique, Puyol. Caceres was loaned out to Juventus after a poor spell at Barcelona August 6, 2009. The league season began well for Caceres as he scored a goal on his debut, netting the opener in a 2–0 away win against Lazio. He began as a regular under Manager Ciro Ferrara, but his campaign was disrupted by a number of injuries, including one in January 2010 that put him out of action for several months. 3. Zlatan lbrahimovic The Sweden international player is often regarded as the best striker of his generation due to his agility and goal scoring prowess. Ibrahimović moved from Ajax to Juventus for €16 million in 2004. He was promptly inserted into the starting eleven due to top scorer David Trezeguet's injury problems. He impressed in his first season and scored 16 goals. The club finished top of Serie A, and in the Champions League they reached the quarterfinals before being knocked out by eventual champions Liverpool. In 2009-10 season, Barcelona exchanged Samuel Eto for Ibrahimovic plus a reported fee of £69 million. He had a good season finishing with 11 goals and 4 assists in Barcelona's first 15 league matches in 2009. Barcelona capped off the year by winning the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup against Estudiantes on 19 December 2009. His fallout with manager, Pep Guardiola ultimately showed him the way out of the Catalan club. 4. Gianluca Zambrotta The Italian former footballer played as a full back or as a wide midfielder. Half way through the 1999 Italian season, he was bought by Juventus and was expected in Turin the next season. After the transfer to Juventus on 1 July 1999, Zambrotta continued his upward momentum under manager Carlo Ancelotti. He made 32 league appearances with one goal in the first season he played for Juventus. He was a regular first team player all through his stay at the Turin side. On 4 August 2006, after his holiday following the 2006 World Cup, Zambrotta reported to his new club Barcelona for the first time in Los Angeles, where Barça were staying for their pre-season tour in North America. In his two season with the club, he made a total of 58 appearance scoring 3 goals before his return to Italy. 5. Arturo Vidal The Chilean is a fierce box to box midfielder and he is nicknamed 'The Warrior' due to his aggressive nature and hard tackling. Vidal joined Juventus for €10.5 million on a five-year contract. He scored on the first competitive debut in the opening league game of the season against Parma. He was an integral part of the 2011–12 Scudetto winning side that went undefeated the entire season under Antonio Conte. Barcelona unveiled Vidal on August 3 penning a three years contract. He scored quite a handful number of goals for the Catalan side. He gave their midfield the power and energy. His last match was against his previous club, Bayern Munich who humiliated Barcelona in a 8-2 champions league defeat. 6. Lilian Thuram The retired French international was the most capped player in the history of the country. He was signed in 2001 from Parma and formed formidable partners along the likes of Cannavaro, Zebini, Zambrotta and others to conquer Italy. He spent five years at the Turin side before moving to Barcelona after Juventus were relegated in 2006. In his last season at Barcelona, he was the third or fourth choice at the centre back after Puyol, Milito and Marquez. He announced his retirement from football due to heart condition. The Government are clamping down on those who went to loot CACOVID 19 Palliatives and also those who used the avenue to raid private malls and enterprise. Both cases are however different and they should be treated differently. I believe going after hoarded palliatives is a wise move. If the state government were being serious in the first place, they could have announced the receipt of accepting the CACOVID palliatives but they kept mute about it. What are your opinions about this? What should the government do for the hoodlums and looters caught? |
switlily25:Well, I think she has cashed out from her online Bambiala (Gofundme). She need to pay 10% tithe to the sheeples now... |

So, I did a small research about some handles here and it is indeed saddening. No real topic created by them to tell their own story, inspire others to be a better version or of any value to others. Is it worth it fighting over people who can deny you the next second? Not like creating topics is important but why neglect good values all in the name of fan wars. Creating enmity just to satisfy your own whims. Maybe you are not jobless but making foolery out of your job. These housemates are done with the show, follow and support them discreetly and silently pray for them cos they need it. I wonder when last you prayed for any of them but you are a battalion when it comes to defending them. That's not love! If you truly love your fave, you don't set them up for drag. If they throw hate, show them love. That way you will conquer them. Good morning everybody! |
