PoliticsBuhari: 'My Wife, Aisha, Belongs To My Kitchen, Living Room' by JumiR(op): 2:59pm On Oct 14, 2016
President Buhari has reacted to the interview his wife Hajia Aisha Buhari granted the British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC) where she said she may not support his re-election bid in 2019 if he so decides to run. Buhari reacted to this interview to reporters in Germany where he stood side-by-side with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Speaking on his wife's interview, President Buhari said, "I don't know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room."

Buhari, who laughed off his initial statement, further told the reporters that he hopes his wife will remember that he ran for president three times before succeeding on the fourth attempt. In his words, "So I claim superior knowledge over her and the rest of the opposition, because in the end I have succeeded. It's not easy to satisfy the whole Nigerian opposition parties or to participate in the government."

PoliticsGoodluck Jonathan, PDP Chieftains Keep Mum On 21 Chibok Girls by JumiR(op): 12:48pm On Oct 14, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is Facebook-friendly and he has used this medium to convey messages at various times. So also is former Minister of Aviation Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode. Just two days ago, on 12 October 2016, when the bomb explosion happened in Maiduguri, Jonathan took to his verified Facebook page, before an official government statement, to say, "My heart goes out to all those who lost loved ones to the bomb blast in Maiduguri earlier today. I pray for the repose of the souls of the victims. May God strengthen our gallant and patriotic armed forces as the sacrificially carry out their duties of securing Nigeria. Finally, I urge all Nigerians to support the government to rid Nigeria of terrorism."

On World Teachers' Day{5th October}, Jonathan also congratulated Nigerian teachers on Facebook with a message, "Throughout my tenure in office, I ensured that education consistently had either the highest sectoral allocation or at least one of the highest because I was convinced then and remain convinced today that nations do not become great because of what is under their ground. Their greatness comes from what is between the ears of their citizens. I salute Nigeria's teachers on World Teachers Day. They are the goose that lay the golden eggs. May God bless them and may God bless Nigeria."

Obasanjo said in an interview sometime back that,“The president(Jonathan) did not believe that those girls were abducted for almost 18 days.”
It has then come as a surprise to many of his followers that he is yet to convey a message on the release of the 21 Chibok girls that happened yesterday 13th October 2016. Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said in an interview sometime back that,“The president(Jonathan) did not believe that those girls were abducted for almost 18 days.” Recall it was during his  administration, on the night of 14–15 April 2014, that 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. Since the 21 Chibok girls were released yesterday, there have been congratulatory messages from across the globe. Not much has been heard from the opposition party People's Democratic Party(PDP). A former aide to Jonathan, Reno Omokri in a tweet said, "The release of 21 Chibok girls is a breakthrough. Whatever means was used to release them isn't as important as the fact that they are free."

Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose, yesterday, said the release of the 21 Chibok girls is a propaganda
The Ekiti State governor Mr. Ayodele Fayose however says release of the 21 Chibok girls may be a propaganda. In a statement released yesterday, Fayose said, “As for me, I keep my fingers crossed on this reported release of 21 Chibok girls. This is because we were once told by this same government that one of the girls was released and the girl, who was supposed to be writing Physics WAEC examination then could not speak one sentence in English. Again, it was reported yesterday that Boko Haram bombed Maiduguri, Borno State and killed more than 10 people. How the same Boko Haram insurgents that bombed Maiduguri yesterday could release 21 Chibok girls today is a question Nigerians must ask."

Politics'No Swap, No Ransom, No Nursing Mothers' - Federal Government On 21 Chibok Girls by JumiR(op): 9:28pm On Oct 13, 2016
Following reports in some sections of the media that the Federal Government reportedly swapped some Boko Haram terrorists in exchange for the 21 Chibok girls who were released yesterday, the administration has dismissed these as untrue. In a tweet to a report by an online portal which stated that "A Nigerian government source said they paid ransom to Boko Haram fighters today to gain release 21 Chibok girls today", the Federal Government via the verified Twitter handle of the Office of Digital Engagement said, "This—like the news of a 'Swap', and the reports that several of the girls are nursing mothers—is FALSE and should be disregarded.President has repeatedly expressed his openness to a swap. If indeed swap happened FGN has no reason to conceal it. But no swap took place."

PoliticsAfe Babalola Speaks On Arrest Of Judges by JumiR(op): 1:12am On Oct 13, 2016
Legal luminary Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) has said it was wrong for the Department of State Services(DSS) to take over Police duties, while decrying the method the security agency used in arresting judges over alleged corruption. Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony of the new Ekiti State High Court at the Judiciary Headquarters, Fajuyi, Ado Ekiti, the state capital, Babalola said: “I am very sad about the attack on judges when they are not common criminals, they have not run outside the country. The following day, you released them on bail, why did you harass their families?

“It is a trite law that process of the court can’t be served after 7pm. Even if the DSS had the arrest warrant, they should not have gone on midnight raid of the houses of the judges. “The NJC has the power to promote, appoint and discipline judges, this was done to ensure independence of that arm. So, I expect them to have approached the NJC. How can you arrest a sitting Supreme Court judges and took him to magistrate court for trial? That could only be done after they have been removed. If these people have facts that they are corrupt, they should approach the Judicial Council. How can you arrest a sitting judge and hand him over to a magistrate to try him? Anywhere in the world, you don’t try a sitting judge; you first remove him from office before taking him to court. If you catch a masquerade, you first take the regalia off him.”

Politics‘Presidency Disrespecting A Big Personality Like Tinubu’ – Lagos APC Lawmakers by JumiR(op): 12:21pm On Oct 12, 2016
The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly have said nobody can weaken the political power and influence of the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Speaking yesterday at the plenary, the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Tunde Braimoh, drummed up support for Tinubu saying, “The situation does not speak well for the internal democracy of our party and efforts must be made by stakeholders to arrive at a quick resolution. To achieve this, we call on the party’s leadership to call the executives to order with a view to ensuring that adequate respect and honour is given to party leaders, including Asiwaju Tinubu."

Appointments have been made without Tinubu’s knowledge
The Deputy Majority Leader, Muyiwa Jimoh, noted that the “ongoing fight is not just against Tinubu, but against vision and posterity”, adding that “Asiwaju Tinubu is too big a personality for anybody to toy with”. Meanwhile the Lagos speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa said, “The signal coming from the presidency is not good enough. Appointments have been made without Tinubu’s knowledge and major decisions have been made without adequate consideration given for his view and opinion. We believe this is not good enough and it is a sign of disrespect for a personality like Tinubu, whose contributions to the consummation of APC in Nigeria can never be brushed aside."

Crime'I Lost My Virginity To My Father & Fell In Love With Him' - Nigerian Lady by JumiR(op): 12:30pm On Oct 09, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

Psychologist-cum-businessman Adejoro Olumofin is famous on the social media for tackling various relationship/marital issues via his Instagram timeline "joroolumofin". Today, he shared Part 1 of the 3-part email he just received from a Nigerian lady.

Below is the email as sent by the lady to Olumofin:

Subject: I have carried this burden for 17 years

Hello Joro,

First of all, I'm one of your biggest supporters. I love you and what you do. It's time for me to share. I don't want to start my life with a lie. Please I need your advice, you can share too. All advise is key. I lost my virginity to my father when I was 15, he used to drink heavily and beat my mom up then. My mom left the country to U.K. to start afresh and also for financial stability. I blame my mom for leaving me behind here with him but I couldn't blame her. The embassy wouldn't grant me and my brother and sister visa at that time. Over the years, I developed a love relationship with my father, first it was rape but later I loved him. I loved his feel inside me. During mid-term breaks I looked forward to going home to see him. We would make love all through. I even discouraged my mother when she wanted to come back. I was my father's girl.

This revelation has started generating comments on Olumofin's Instagram timeline.

Christianity EtcAnita Oyakhilome Sparks Marriage Rumours by JumiR(op):
By JUMI VIVOUR

Anita Oyakhilome marriage rumors are swirling in the wake of a name she has introduced to her maiden surname Ebhodaghe. Recall on the 8th February 2016, a decree absolute was pronounced in the High Court of Justice Principal Registry of the Family Division in the United Kingdom dissolving her marriage to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy. Since she parted ways with her former husband, and Christ Embassy which she's a co-founder of, Pastor Anita has consistently been running an online portal where she blogs about various issues.

A few days ago, the website(www.pastoranita.org) was shut down due to maintenance. The website earlier today went live and from all indications, there were major changes and one that has sparked rumour is of her latest blog post titled 'A Simple Prayer'. For her old posts that she wrote, she authored them as Anita Ebhodaghe but this newest post, she signed off as Anita Ebhodaghe Schafer. Since this newest post went live, many of her followers have begun to speculate if Pastor Anita has secretly remarried! It's however unconfirmed if Schafer is a name Pastor Anita is using from her maternal lineage as her mother is Swiss from Switzerland, while her father hails from Edo State.

PoliticsMeet Prof. Paden: Author Of Pres. Buhari, Ahmadu Bello's Authorized Biographies by JumiR(op):
By KIKELOMO IWAJOMO

President Buhari's authorized biography - 'Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria' - written by Prof. John Paden - was launched earlier today at the International Conference Center in Abuja. The high-profile ceremony, which was not a government-funded project, was attended by five serving African presidents: President Buhari(Nigeria); President of Chad; and President of Benin Republic; President of Niger Republic; President of Cameroon; former Nigerian president/head of state - Gen Yakubu Gowon(retd.); Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; state governors; serving ministers; senior government officials; APC national chairman Chief John Oyegun; APC national leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; billionaire businessman Alhaji Aliko Dangote; Mr. Tony Elumelu; and other eminent Nigerians. The proceeds of the book sales, according to the author, would go to the Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) who are affected by atrocities of the terrorists group Boko Haram. During the presentation, guests were told not to launch the book with ridiculous prices but could buy many as they wanted at cover price.

Not many know that the author of this authorized biography Professor John Paden has known President Buhari for over 30 years. The renowned professor also authored the authoritative biography of Sir Ahmadu Bello which was published in 1986. Paden received his BA in philosophy from Occidental College, his MA in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and his PhD in politics from Harvard University. He has served as Director of African Studies at Northwestern University, Professor of Public Administration at Ahmadu Bello University (Zaria, Nigeria), and Dean, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, at Bayero University (Kano, Nigeria). This authorized biography of President Buhari provides an up-close look at the life of a major ally of the West in the fight against terrorism, poverty, and corruption. The book covers Buhari’s early life and education, his military career, and his brief stint as military of state before he was deposed in a coup. The book examines the first year of his presidency, looking at the immense security, economic, and political challenges he faces and the bold moves he is making to tackle them with support at home and abroad.

Politics'Grant Presidential Pardon To Looters Who Return Stolen Funds'- Melaye To Buhari by JumiR(op): 10:27pm On Oct 02, 2016
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West), on Sunday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to give presidential pardon and amnesty to treasury looters. Melaye made this known in a statement where he said the looters should be given six months to return public funds or face the full wrath of the law. According to Melaye, "Though an unrepentant advocate for integrity and forthrightness especially from public office holders, l however sincerely want to recommend that Mr. President grant Presidential Amnesty/Pardon to all those who looted our treasury provided they return all proceeds of their loot to the government within six (6) months of the declaration of the Amnesty.

"This, I believe will encourage the voluntary return of the the looted funds, empower the government financially to immediately commence the implementation of projects and programmes that will stimulate the economy and raise the peoples' standard of living, and save the judiciary and other law enforcement agencies the agony of fruitlessly pursuing the looters in and out of the courtrooms. In the long run, this would be a win-win situation for both the government and people of Nigeria. At the expiration of the six months' 'Moratorium', all those who failed to comply would then be made to face the reality of aggressive and expeditious prosecution and eventual jail terms for convicts in accordance with the laws of the land."

Politics"Buruji Kashamu Is An Unranked Senator" - PDP Chieftain, Bode George by JumiR(op):
Ahead of a meeting holding in Akure later today that will have about 120 South-West PDP leaders in attendance, former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Olabode George has accused Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State and Senator Buruji Kashamu, who are supportive of the zoning of the national chairman to the Northeast, of having a hidden agenda against the interest of the Yoruba.According to Bode George, “Buruji, an unranked Senator is also calling for a meeting at Ijebu-Igbo. God will help our party but indiscipline is the major bane of our party. After the congress, we will issue a communiqué where we will marshal out our action. For me, it is nothing personal but all I want is for us to follow the rules and the constitution of the party.”

George further said, "The thing there is that, by whatever yardstick, if there is proper zoning by the definition of our party, it means that since the presidency has been zoned to the North, automatically, the chairmanship of the party should come from the South. All that Buruji is doing, asking the acting chairman of the party to continue, it means he has an agenda hidden and I don’t want to talk about it. The chairman of the PDP governors called for a meeting so that we can find a solution but he is calling for another meeting. All those betraying the Yoruba hook, line and sinker, God will ask them. It is only the South West that is yet to produce the chairmanship of the party since it was formed and they are championing that it should go to the North East. Buruji can hang on anything because of his background and for Ayo (Fayose), Ekiti people will ask him”.

PoliticsShowdown Brewing Between Presidency And National Assembly by JumiR(op): 1:49am On Mar 31, 2016
There are indications that the decision reportedly taken by President Muhammadu Buhari not to sign the 2016 Appropriation Bill into law is not sitting well with some members of the National Assembly. Recall there were reports that Buhari said he would not sign the document unless it was accompanied by the details. Clarifying this, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Mr. Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu said until the budget details were submitted for scrutiny, it would not be assented to by the President. NASS members claim that the President has failed to appreciate the difficult task it faced to pass the budget, despite the errors contained in the different versions of the document submitted to the legislature.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, yesterday, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. (Dr.) Abdulmumin Jibrin, said: "There is nothing that has happened so far that is abnormal. Let me put it straight and clear that I doubt that such a statement could come from the Presidency, knowing fully the challenges we went through during the budgeting process. Ordinarily, the National Assembly should not have responded to the issues raised but we are duty-bound to put the issues into perspective and put records straight, even though we doubt very much if the Presidency will issue such a statement, knowing the challenges the budget has faced so far.

“I have heard people say the President has refused to assent or the President will refuse to assent. We have the power to appropriate and the National Assembly will continue to uphold its power of appropriation as enshrined in the constitution. There is no place in the world, no country in the world where the executive sends a budget to the parliament and expects that that budget goes back to the executive the way it was sent, it never happened. So there is no way the details will go back to the executive the way it was sent. We have been gracious enough, we have been generous enough. We sent the envelope the way they brought it, apart from the N17 billion reduction.

"The N17 billion was a cut we did from the overheads, which we actually believed that there were lots of things that ought not to be included in the overhead. What we have done for the executive arm of government in the last few months since the Buhari’s administration, I think if they are not thanking us, they cannot complain or throw stones at the National Assembly. The 2016 Budget is the most challenging budget the NASS has ever passed in its recent history, taking into account the many controversies and omissions, particularly in NYSC, Prisons, Pensions, personnel shortfalls, among others. The budget failed in many respects to connect with the policy thrust of the government.”

In a related development, Mr. Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), has said: “In view of the ongoing debate about the 2016 Appropriation Bill passed by the National Assembly on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, I wish to use this medium to inform Nigerians that one week after the passage, the Presidency is yet to receive the budget details. As a former three-term member of the House and a two-term principal officer and presently the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters, (House of Representatives), I wish to shed light on the whole matter.

“First, the usual tradition of budget processes by the legislature and the Presidential assent is that if the two chambers pass different figures, they would then constitute a harmonization committee to harmonize their various positions, after which the appropriation committees of both chambers will work out the details. After working out the details, they will forward it to Mr President for his assent. But this time around, the legislature has passed the same figures. Once the President gets the budget, he and his team will look at the details of what the National Assembly has passed.

"If there is any observation, he will send it back to the National Assembly, and if not, he will assent to it. This has been the practice since the inception of our present democratic dispensation in 1999. Now we are waiting for the National Assembly to finish with the details and transmit same to Mr President. For avoidance of doubt, the National Assembly has not transmitted any budget details to President Muhammadu Buhari, let alone for him to sign it. Thus, it is pertinent to inform Nigerians that the budget details are yet to reach the President for his scrutiny and subsequent assent.”

PoliticsRe: 'How PDP Will Produce Next Senate President If Saraki Is Removed'-Delta Senator by JumiR(op): 1:27am On Mar 31, 2016
Politics'How PDP Will Produce Next Senate President If Saraki Is Removed'-Delta Senator by JumiR(op): 1:27am On Mar 31, 2016
ABUJA — CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, PDP, Delta North, said yesterday that if President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, was removed from his present position by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, the opposition political party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would produce his successor.

Nwaoboshi, who noted that Saraki had been obeying the court, said until he was proven guilty, no amount of blackmail would make senators elected on the platform of PDP shift ground and support for him.

“In any case, my party, the PDP, has resolved in our meeting to support him. So, there is no basis for him to resign,” he said.

Nwaobashi, former Delta State chairman of PDP, who spoke with journalists in Abuja, yesterday, described the present trial of Saraki as purely political.

He said: “We only need three and we have it. The calculation is very clear to me. The calculation is very clear for PDP. We know what it will take us. When I told them that Saraki was going to win, I did a lot of mathematical calculations based on the facts on the ground and it is even clearer to me now that the PDP will win it.

“We will win it. If anybody is thinking that a PDP man is going to vote against a PDP candidate, he is telling you a lie. We have people and we know how to get the people from APC.

“We will win and that will be very interesting. What is happening in America is going to happen in Nigeria. America has a Republican Senate but the executive is led by Democrats. So, it’s happening in different parts of the world. I can tell you with what’s on the ground that we will produce the next Senate President.”

No amount of blackmail’ll make us shift ground

On whether Saraki should resign as Senate President, Nwaoboshi said: “I’m a lawyer, 27 years in the bar. He is not guilty. He has not been proven guilty. Let us first of all get to the point that he has been found guilty.

“The man has taken a plea of not guilty and the law is very clear. He’s deemed not to be guilty until it is proven. It’s a matter before the court. The prosecutor has the duty to prove his case before the onus will shift to him to defend.

“If the prosecutor doesn’t have a case, then what is he defending? Take the example of Ndudi Elumelu; that was how they removed him as Chairman of Power Committee because he was taken to court. In the end, he was cleared.

“Look at the former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, he went to court. People were saying he is in court, that he should be removed. He resigned as a result of pressure from the public. He went to court and won.

“The other woman in the House of Representatives, former speaker, Patricia Etteh; in fact, the House changed its own position. But they had achieved what they wanted to achieve. There are so many examples like that.

“The man (Saraki) is going to court and he is obeying the court order. Until it is proven that he is guilty, no amount of blackmail will make us shift our ground and our support for him. In any case, my party, the PDP, we’ve resolved in our meeting to support him. So, there is no basis for him to resign.”

Asked whether Saraki should look at the soft landing option which looks like an olive branch, he said: “What is soft landing? There is no soft landing. The case is on. Are they going to withdraw the case? Let him go through the distance and let us see who is right.”

Saraki’s trial political

Senator Nwaoboshi, who noted that Senator Saraki’s trial was purely political, said: “You have seen it now. What is the intendment of an Act? Before he became a governor, he was supposed to make a declaration.’’

Politics'With Buhari, Nigerians Have Taken Medicine That Kills' - Gov. Ayo Fayose by JumiR(op): 12:49am On Mar 28, 2016
The Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose is known to be one of the critics of President Muhammadu Buhari. Fayose has again hit Buhari on the state of Nigeria's economy in a recent interview. When asked in the interview if he has anything personal for being critical of this administration and the President, Fayose said, "Everything I have said is backed with facts and figures. It is not about being critical of this administration. I didn’t start today. I started before the 2015 elections. I told Nigerians not to vote for him (Buhari). I was a young man of 24, 25 years when Buhari was the Head of State of this country. The Yoruba man will say, ‘If you have taken a medicine that works for you, please give me’. We took a medicine which kills. Anybody that is 40 years old today that voted for Buhari doesn’t know Buhari because, from 1984 to date, it will be 32 years.

"So, a guy of eight years won’t say he knows Buhari clearly. So, add that eight years to 32 years, that is 40 years, they voted for a man they never knew. So, if you remove people from the age bracket of 18 – 40 and remove the votes from Buhari’s votes, you will know that he couldn’t have won the election. I am not critical of anybody. When APC is talking about me, they say whatever they want to say but I defeated them in all elections even when they call it militarization, even when they say Fayose is controversial; in every battle I will win them. Even when you have over taken, like after my impeachment, by His grace, they were over taken again and lambasted by the Supreme Court. There is a difference between vendetta and the reality on the ground. If I am incompetent, Ekiti people will not vote for me eight years after."

Politics'Those Calling For CBN Governor's Sack Are Palmwine Drinkers' - Gov. Oshiomhole by JumiR(op): 1:26am On Mar 24, 2016
Edo State governor says CBN governorship should not be politicised
Ejiofor Alike in Lagos and Paul Obi in Abuja

Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole and a coalition of civil society groups in the country yesterday condemned those calling for the sack of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, describing them as faceless manipulators of the Nigerian economy who are bent on wasting their time.

They stated that President Muhammadu Buhari would not be fooled by them into sacking the CBN governor.

Oshiomhole said the hiring and firing of the CBN governor is not a political decision because institutions such as the central bank are central to economic growth and development of any serious nation.

The governor argued that those angling for the sack of Emefiele were merely invisible hands who have continued to thwart the nation’s economic resources for their selfish interest.

The governor made the statement yesterday in Abuja during his visit to the National Universities Commission (NUC) to present a letter of recognition of the Edo University in Iyamho.

“If a governor is doing fine, his hiring and firing is not a matter that should be discussed by faceless Facebook manipulators, and by the time you unmask the people behind it, you will discover that they are palm wine drinkers,” he said.
Oshiomhole said with the challenge of running the economy undergoing a recession where there is limited inflow of foreign exchange, the government does not want to trigger a process that will lead to endless devaluation that will ultimately reduce the Nigerian naira to Zimbabwean dollar.

“President Buhari is not going to be fooled by people who want to have a regime where government is just an onlooker and allow the naira to become worthless and people are making money from speculation. So those guys are wasting their time,” he said.

The Edo State governor noted that the CBN governor was right in insisting on the 41 items that had been denied access to forex from the interbank forex market, adding that “people who have been feeding fat on our common patrimony, manipulating the exchange rate and moving money across boundaries are the speculators spreading the campaign for his sack”.

He explained that the country has a new federal government which won an election on the basis of the mantra of change and there are all kinds of people who have made money in this economy without contributing anything.
“We have a new federal government that has won election on the basis of change and there are all kinds of people who have made a lot of money from the economy without contributing anything by just playing on exchange rates and commercial papers.

“It is these speculators, because the CBN governor has been saying we cannot open the doors to all kinds of imports such as toothpicks, tomato paste and all sorts of things who have been feeding fat on our common patrimony, manipulating the exchange rate, moving money across borders, and taking advantage of electronic money transfers, that are behind these campaigns,” he said.

Oshiomhole added: “Of course there are some opportunistic elements, people who feel that if this man goes, I will get there and they are ready to go to any length to remove him.

“I think this government is making a point that the hiring and firing of CBN governors need not be a political decision, because we should respect institutions; the hiring and firing is not a decision by Facebook manipulators, and by the time you unmask the people behind it, you will discover that they are palm wine drinkers.
“I think the CBN governor is right, he is standing his grounds and those who are opposed to him are free to speak, but I know that President Buhari is not going to be fooled by people who want to see a regime where government is just an onlooker and allows our naira to become worthless and for people to make money from speculation, so those guys are wasting their time.”

Also, the executive committees of a coalition of civil society groups rose in defence of Emefiele and condemned the threat of a protest by “a shadowy, bogus and unscrupulous group parading itself as a civil society organisation”.
The civil society groups stated that the central bank governor was being persecuted for the policies on the implementation of the Bank Verification Number (BVN), restriction on foreign exchange allocation, reform of the bureau de change sub-sector, and refusal by the central bank to devalue the naira.

The groups also stated that the “phony” group threatening to hold a protest against Emefiele was not a civil society organisation and was therefore not recognised by the coalition of civil society groups in Nigeria.

In a statement yesterday, the coalition insisted that regardless of how this phony group tries to mask itself as a civil society organisation, an independent investigation had revealed that it was in fact a political organisation of paid agents and sponsored groups representing the interest of a certain geopolitical zone in the country.
The coalition revealed that the promoters of this group are persons who are known to be troublesome and have the capacity to disrupt the public peace.

The groups said they fully appreciate the difficulties and anxieties of many Nigerians given the present tough economic environment, but maintained that the situation was not caused by one man or one institution and considered it unfair for anyone or group to try to put the blame on only one person or organisation.

According to the coalition, relative to its peers, the Nigerian economy was not performing that badly.
“Among commodity-exporting economies, for instance, inflation, GDP growth and employment are far worse in countries like Zambia, Ghana, and Argentina with inflation rates of between 19-28 per cent. As a matter of fact, Brazil and Russia are in recession, while South Africa is struggling to record positive growth.

“These are all linked to the fall in commodity prices in the international market. Emefiele and the CBN have so far managed to keep inflation far below what has been recorded in many comparator countries,” the coalition said.
It insisted that the policies of the Emefiele-led CBN are aimed at protecting ordinary Nigerians from the destructive capitalistic instincts of a few speculators.

“Emefiele’s policies have truncated the rent-seeking ability of many of these economic parasites and saboteurs. And we believe it is for this singular reason that both Emefiele and the CBN are being vilified in the most unfair and disgraceful manner by a sponsored group of anarchists.

“Nigerians have been taken for a ride for too long. Our collective patrimony has been cornered by a few looters for too long. We can no longer stand idly by and watch these thieves, in collaboration with foreign neo-colonialists and imperialists, keep the masses of our people under perpetual bondage. This is the time to free Nigeria and its people from the dirty hands and greedy mouths of a few,” the civil society groups added.

They stated that Emefiele’s detractors are aggrieved by his implementation of the BVN, which ensures that those who have looted the country’s resources and concealed them under various account names are detected.

“Given their inability to hide their identities these thieves have vowed to hound Emefiele for daring to destroy their criminal activities. May God never allow them to succeed,” the groups said.

They also noted that the list of 41 items not eligible for forex at the CBN did not go down well with Emefiele’s detractors, as the elite and business moguls had been depleting the country’s forex reserves by aggressively importing goods, which could be easily produced in Nigeria.

“By their action, these profiteers have killed jobs in Nigeria and created jobs abroad. They have exported prosperity abroad and imported poverty into their fatherland. But as long as their huge profit margins are guaranteed, they do not care. What Emefiele and his team have done is to say that we can no longer import unemployment and export wealth out of Nigeria,” the groups explained.

The coalition also noted that Emefiele was being persecuted because of the reform of the BDC sub-sector that is being undertaken to ensure that genuine business people engage in the business and not serve as fronts for those who continuously loot the national treasury.

“Indeed these looters and their sponsors have used all sorts of guises to register several BDCs with which they drain foreign exchange from the CBN and use such to transfer their loot abroad. It is only in Nigeria that BDCs expect government (CBN) to give them foreign exchange before they do business,” they added.

Crime#FreeYunusaYellow: SAN, 4 Lawyers File For Yunusa Yellow's Bail by JumiR(op): 6:38am On Mar 11, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

Yunusa Dahiru, aka Yunusa Yellow, the suspected abductor of a Bayelsa teenager, Ese Oruru, was on Tuesday arraigned at a Federal High Court in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, Yunusa Yellow is being charged for abduction, coercion, seduction into illicit intercourse, sexual exploitation and unlawful carnal knowledge of Miss Oruru. In another development, a campaign themed #FreeYellowNow has begun online and popular in Kano, advocating for the release of the suspected abductor. One of those championing Yunusa's case is a lecturer at the Bayero University Kano, Dr. Audu Bukarti, a lawyer who is expected to represent the suspected abductor next Monday in Yenagoa. Speaking on #FreeYellowNow, Bukarti said, "Many thought Yunusa was not represented by lawyers when he was arraigned yesterday. The truth is that he was represented by the 4 lawyers we have hired for him in Bayelsa. We asked them to represent him because we knew the only thing that would be done yesterday was to read the charges and take his plea.

"Yunusa has denied all the 5 charges framed against him. If Yunusa went to court alone, perhaps, he would have pleaded guilty because he might not understand the meaning and implication of what was read to him. But he was properly guided because there were lawyers with him. We have filed an application for the bail of Yunusa. The application has yet been taken. The matter has been adjourned to Monday, the 14/3/16 for hearing even though our contacts say hearing may not commence on that day. I and other lawyers are planning to be in court on Monday even though we are yet to finalise our plans. We may not be in court on Monday if hearing will not commence on that day. This is because the matter may just be called and adjourned on that day and our 4 lawyers can do that for us. The SAN who will lead us will be in court when hearing commences. They have shamelessly dropped forceful marriage and forceful conversion to Islam. This shows we are succeeding. We will keep you posted."

PoliticsRe: 'Jonathan Should Be Prosecuted If Indicted'-Alleged Boko Haram Sponsor,Ali Ndume by JumiR(op): 3:23am On Mar 11, 2016
Politics'Jonathan Should Be Prosecuted If Indicted'-Alleged Boko Haram Sponsor,Ali Ndume by JumiR(op): 3:23am On Mar 11, 2016
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District on the platform of All Progressives Congress(APC), is the current Senate Leader. Ndume has been in court for the past 4 years over allegations that he is an alleged sponsor of Boko Haram. Ndume, however, on Thursday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to authorise the prosecution of former President Goodluck Jonathan if he (Jonathan) is indicted in the $2.1bn arms deal. Speaking with journalists in Abuja Ndume noted that if Jonathan, who approved $2.1bn for the purchase of arms, should turn back to give directive secretly that the money should be shared among his cronies, he should be prosecuted.

Ndume said, “I do not want to dabble in that, being one of the victims of the insurgency. My house was taken over by insurgents and my town was declared a caliphate of the insurgents. My Emir was killed while these people were laughing all the way to the banks with the money that was meant to buy arms and ammunition. It was for lack of ammunition that the Nigerian Armed Forces had to run away. As far as I am concerned, these people are living on blood money; the blood of so many innocent citizens of this country particularly from the North-East.

“No justice is too much for them; nobody is supposed to be spared because the case is judicial and I am not a lawyer to determine who should be brought to book. What I am saying is that justice should be served. Over 10,000 people have lost their lives. At one time, you could see my people were slaughtered like chickens and the reason why this happened was because our Army was not equipped and not well kitted. Somebody made away with the money meant for the procurement of arms and ammunition. I am not defending President Jonathan but he approved that this money be used for procurement of arms.

“So, if the law says he should be part of those who should be part of the accountability or those that should face justice, I think nobody should be spared. I really don’t want to make comment on that but anybody that is involved in that blood money should be held responsible. If the President approved that money in the name of buying arms while giving a directive that it should be shared among his cronies, then he should face the law. If anybody is supposed to buy arms and you gave them money to buy arms, as the President, after some time, you should ask ‘where are the arms anyway’. Let me add and clearly that is my position, if because of this or any other criminality Jonathan should face the law, he should. I did, I am facing the law. Nobody is supposed to be above the law. If Jonathan is a culprit, he should face the law. If there is evidence that the former President should face the law, then, he should. After all, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

Ndume said he wondered why his own trial on allegations of being a Boko Haram sponsor was not getting the kind of attention that Saraki’s trial by the CCT was receiving. According to him, “Do you know that I am still in court on a more serious issue. The President of the Senate is in court for (alleged false) asset declaration but I am in court for a more serious issue, that I am alleged to be a sponsor of Boko Haram. I have been in court for four years; so, why is it not an issue? I have not complained, it is not a big deal. I am still the Leader of the Senate and my role is as important as that of the President of the Senate but it is not a big deal.”

PoliticsBabalola Borishade To Face EFCC Trial by JumiR(op): 3:45am On Feb 18, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

Former Minister of Aviation, Prof. Babalola Borishade served in 3 ministries during ex-president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's 1st and 2nd terms. In 2004, Prof. Borishade was appointed Minister of State, Power and Steel; between July 2005 and November 2006, he was Minister of Aviation; then appointed, Minister of Culture and Tourism, a position he held till May 2007 at the expiration of Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar tenure. Obasanjo's daughter Damilola married Borishade's son Tope in 2014: it was at this point the former president and ex-minister became in-laws.

These may not be the best of times for Prof. Borishade as Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar of the FCT High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, yesterday, refused to stop further hearing on a suit filed by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) against him(Borishade), and 4 others for allegedly mismanaging N5.2 billion Aviation Safe Tower contract. The others are Borisade's former personal assistant, Tunde Dairo; former Managing Director of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, Rowland Iyayi; an Australian, George Eider and Avsatel Communications Ltd. The trial begain in November 2009, when they were arraigned by the EFCC on a 15-count charge of taking bribe and forging aviation contract documents.

The matter which was initially scheduled for Wednesday, February 3, 2016, could not go on as planned as the Attorney General of the Federation(AGF) requested for a brief on the case by the EFCC since the matter had been in court for about seven years. Ruling on the application, yesterday, Justice Umar said the application by counsel to the defendants to foreclose or discharge the defendants was refused and ordered the prosecution to continue its case.
