A former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has threatened to initiate a lawsuit against the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga for saying he is behind the planned protests in Nigeria. In a statement on his verified X handle, Onanuga on Saturday accused Obi’s supporters of sponsoring the planned nationwide protests against Tinubu’s administration, adding that the former Anambra governor would be held responsible for any liabilities that arise from the public demonstrations in August. But in a swift reaction, the Labour Party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said there was no truth in Onanuga’s allegation, describing it as a figment of his imagination. Obi, in a letter addressed to Onanuga, via his lawyer, Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN described the presidential aide’s comments as defamatory to the reputation and personality of Obi. The lawyer, therefore, demanded the sum of N5 billion in damages and ordered Onanuga to retract his statement via various national dailies in the country. The letter also mandated the presidential aide to tender an unreserved apology within 72 hours of the receipt of the letter. The letter reads: “The central theme of your referenced statement from an unbiased and objective examination thereof, is that our Client is an anarchist who whilst working in consonance with terrorist groups, has championed the mobilization of several nationwide protests in a bitter and undemocratic bid to usurp the Federal Government possibly as restitution for failure at the 2023 presidential elections. “Our Client denies the entirety of the falsehood contained in the said publication and insists that there is no modicum of truth in the allegations preferred against him in your published statement that has since gone viral on the internet and its various social media platforms. “The said statements are in every sense malicious and convey with them, the potentiality of an ostracization of our Client by well-meaning citizens of Nigeria. “It should be stated without any form of equivocation, that our Client is an elder statesman, a diplomat and an unwavering democrat. He has always tailored his affairs according to the dictates of the Nigerian law. Where there has been any dissatisfaction with any process or procedure, our Client's first and only resort has been to invoke the appropriate legal mechanisms to ventilate his grievances. “As a matter of fact, our Client has severally urged his teeming supporters to abide by the rule of law, and to abstain from any actions which could result in a breakdown of law and order. “He refrains from associating himself with protests and has constantly persuaded Nigerians to persevere. Our Client has expressed dissatisfaction with certain policies and has voiced same out through constructive criticism, without malice or resentment. “It is our Client's conviction that the publication was a calculated plot to demean, ridicule, humiliate and embarrass him by the estimation of every right-thinking member of the society. “It appears you have achieved your insipid motive as well-wishers from all around the globe have inundated him with calls to register their shock. His appellation as "Okwute" (the Rock) notwithstanding, the demeaning and scandalous publication has also caused a serious emotional injury to our Client given his decades of stellar stewardship in private and public life. “Consequently, we have our Client's mandate to demand that you retract the statement made in the publication and tender an unreserved apology to him within 72 hours of the receipt of this letter in not less than 4 National Dailies to wit: Vanguard, This Day, Punch and the Cable, including your verified "X" handle - "@aonanuga1956". Our Client also is making an unequivocal demand for monetary damage of N5,000,000,000 (Five Billion Naira) only for the embarrassment your defamatory publication has caused him and his family.” “Take Notice that in the event of your failure to meet the demands set out above, our Client shall be constrained to approach a Court of competent jurisdiction and take legal action against you for defamation and libel. Be advised accordingly,” the letter added.

Edo Deputy Governor Shuaibu Escapes Assassination Attempt As Gunmen Kill Police Orderly Edo Deputy Governor Shuaibu Escapes Assassination Attempt As Gunmen Kill Police Orderly. The attempt on the life of the deputy governor and other VIPs, including supporters who were at the Benin Airport to receive him, was carried out at the Airport exit gate roundabout, near Faith Mediplex. At least a policeman reportedly died on Thursday when some gunmen attacked the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu's security details in Benin, Edo State. The gun battle which was captured in a viral video seen on X by SaharaReporters was learnt to have occurred between the gunmen said to be the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) and the deputy governor's convoy. This was also confirmed in a press statement issued by Shaibu’s media team dated July 18, 2024. The statement reads: “The Edo State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, Thursday afternoon, escaped an assassination attempt on his life in Benin City the state capital. “The attempt on the life of the deputy governor and other VIPs, including supporters who were at the Benin Airport to receive him, was carried out at the Airport exit gate roundabout, near Faith Mediplex. “The attack orchestrated by state-sponsored thugs and members of the Edo State Security Network (ESSN), witnessed sporadic shootings that left the cheering crowd who had come to welcome the reinstated deputy governor back to Benin, scampering for their dear lives seeking protection from the flying stray bullets. “However, it took the effort and intervention of security officers to rescue the situation, leaving the state-sponsored thugs and local vilgiantees to run from the spot and allowing the rallying crowd to reconvene. “Sadly, one gallant police officer attached to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, whose rode alongside the deputy governor's convoy, lost his life in the unprovoked brutal attack, with several officers and supporters wounded,” the statement added. All efforts made by SaharaReporters to reach the Edo State Police Command for reaction to the incident were not successful. His phone number could not be reached despite several attempts made by our correspondent. | Sahara Reporters https:///3xTuXQD

FreeStuffsNG:I think the Judge erred. A mortgagor has no right to his collateral upon the expiration of the agreement and cannot detect for the mortgagee how he handles the collateral UNLESS THERE'S A CLOUSE IN THE AGREEMENT TO ALLOW THIS. It is non of the business of the mortgagee to know the value of the collateral upon the time of selling, all that concerns him is to recover his money. This judgement will be overturned at the upper court. |

Kobicove:Do you realy know what jumping bail is? He never jumped bail rather he pleaded not guilty as charged and was granted bail. Afterwards he apply for out of court settlement. |
vengertime:He won't be given such opportunity because he has already pleaded guilty as charged. OBC didn't plead guilty and he was granted bail then apply for out of court settlement which is also constitutional in such case. |
